Asymptotics of abelian group-partitions and associated Dirichlet series
We introduce a notion of a group-partition for a finite Abelian group, which is a generalized notion of the standard partition. To obtain asymptoticdistributions of group-partition, we study the Dirichlet series for group-partitions by employing the generating function of the plane partition.

Let $G$ be a graph with vertex set $V(G)$. Let $n$ and $k$ be non-negative integers such that $n + 2k \leq |V(G)| - 2$ and $|V(G)| - n$ is even. If when deleting any $n$ vertices of $G$ the remaining subgraph contains a matching of $k$ edges and every $k$-matching can be extended to a 1-factor, then $G$ is called an $(n, k)-extendable graph. In this paper we present several results about $(n, k)$-extendable graphs and its subgraphs. In particular, we proved that if $G - V(e)$ is $(n, k)$-extendable graph for each $e \in F$ (where $F$ is a fixed 1-factor in $G$), then $G$ is $(n, k)$-extendable graph.

Proposed as a general framework, Liu and Yu(Discrete Math. 231 (2001) 311-320) introduced $(n,k,d)$-graphs to unify the concepts of deficiency of matchings, $n$-factor-criticality and $k$-extendability. Let $G$ be a graph and let $n,k$ and $d$ be non-negative integers such that $n+2k+d\leq |V(G)|-2$ and $|V(G)|-n-d$ is even. If when deleting any $n$ vertices from $G$, the remaining subgraph $H$ of $G$ contains a $k$-matching and each such $k$- matching can be extended to a defect-$d$ matching in $H$, then $G$ is called an $(n,k,d)$-graph. In \cite{Liu}, the recursive relations for distinct parameters $n, k$ and $d$ were presented and the impact of adding or deleting an edge also was discussed for the case $d = 0$. In this paper, we continue the study begun in \cite{Liu} and obtain new recursive results for $(n,k,d)$-graphs in the general case $d \geq0$.
A Note on (3,1)-Choosable Toroidal Graphs
An $(L,d)^*$-coloring is a mapping $φ$ that assigns a color $φ(v)\in L(v)$ to each vertex $v\in V(G)$ such that at most $d$ neighbors of $v$ receive colore $φ(v)$. A graph is called $(m,d)^*$-choosable, if $G$ admits an $(L,d)^*$-coloring for every list assignment $L$ with $|L(v)|\geq m$ for all $v\in V(G)$. In this note, it is proved that every toroidal graph, which contains no adjacent triangles and contains no 6-cycles and $l$-cycles for some $l \in \{5,7\}$, is $(3,1)^*$-choosable.
Total positivity, Grassmannians, and networks
The aim of this paper is to discuss a relationship between total positivity and planar directed networks. We show that the inverse boundary problem for these networks is naturally linked with the study of the totally nonnegative Grassmannian. We investigate its cell decomposition, where the cells are the totally nonnegative parts of the matroid strata. The boundary measurements of networks give parametrizations of the cells. We present several different combinatorial descriptions of the cells, study the partial order on the cells, and describe how they are glued to each other.

It is shown that the maximum number of patterns that can occur in a permutation of length $n$ is asymptotically $2^n$. This significantly improves a previous result of Coleman.
Random patterns generated by random permutations of natural numbers

We survey recent results on some one- and two-dimensional patterns generated by random permutations of natural numbers. In the first part, we discuss properties of random walks, evolving on a one-dimensional regular lattice in discrete time $n$, whose moves to the right or to the left are induced by the rise-and-descent sequence associated with a given random permutation. We determine exactly the probability of finding the trajectory of such a permutation-generated random walk at site $X$ at time $n$, obtain the probability measure of different excursions and define the asymptotic distribution of the number of "U-turns" of the trajectories - permutation "peaks" and "through". In the second part, we focus on some statistical properties of surfaces obtained by randomly placing natural numbers $1,2,3, >...,L$ on sites of a 1d or 2d square lattices containing $L$ sites. We calculate the distribution function of the number of local "peaks" - sites the number at which is larger than the numbers appearing at nearest-neighboring sites - and discuss some surprising collective behavior emerging in this model.

Let Delta_{n-1} denote the (n-1)-dimensional simplex. Let Y be a random k-dimensional subcomplex of Delta_{n-1} obtained by starting with the full (k-1)-dimensional skeleton of Delta_{n-1} and then adding each k-simplex independently with probability p. Let H_{k-1}(Y;R) denote the (k-1)-dimensional reduced homology group of Y with coefficients in a finite abelian group R. Let R and k \geq 1 be fixed. It is shown that p=(k \log n)/n is a sharp threshold for the vanishing of H_{k-1}(Y;R).
Sur le groupe d'interpolation
We study the interpolation group whose elements are suitable pairs of formal power series. This group has a faithful representation into infinite lower triangular matrices and carries thus a natural structure as a Lie group. The matrix exponential between its Lie algebra and its matrix representation gives rise to a function with interesting properties extending the usual exponential function to two variables (which are formal power series) We finish with an application to enumerative combinatorics and the description of an algebra which generalizes the interpolation group.

Let P be a cyclic n-gon with n\ge3, the central angles þ_0,...,þ_{n-1} in (-π,π], and the winding number w:=(þ_0+...+þ_{n-1})/(2π). The vertices of P are assumed to be all distinct from one another. It is then proved that P is convex if and only if one of the following four conditions holds:
(I) w=1 and þ_0,...,þ_{n-1}>0;
(II) w=-1 and þ_0,...,þ_{n-1}<0;
(III) w=0 and exactly one of the angles þ_0,...,þ_{n-1} is negative;
(IV) w=0 and exactly one of the angles þ_0,...,þ_{n-1} is positive.
Convexity of Sub-polygons of Convex Polygons
A convex polygon is defined as a sequence (V_0,...,V_{n-1}) of points on a plane such that the union of the edges [V_0,V_1],..., [V_{n-2},V_{n-1}], [V_{n-1},V_0] coincides with the boundary of the convex hull of the set of vertices {V_0,...,V_{n-1}}. It is proved that all sub-polygons of any convex polygon with distinct vertices are convex. It is also proved that, if all sub-(n-1)-gons of an n-gon with n\ge5 are convex, then the n-gon is convex. Other related results are given.

The "minor crossing number" of a graph $G$ is the minimum crossing number of a graph that contains $G$ as a minor. It is proved that for every graph $H$ there is a constant $c$, such that every graph $G$ with no $H$-minor has minor crossing number at most $c|V(G)|$.

It was discovered some years ago that there exist non-integer real numbers $q>1$ for which only one sequence $(c_i)$ of integers $c_i \in [0,q)$ satisfies the equality $\sum_{i=1}^\infty c_iq^{-i}=1$. The set of such "univoque numbers" has a rich topological structure, and its study revealed a number of unexpected connections with measure theory, fractals, ergodic theory and Diophantine approximation.
In this paper we consider for each fixed $q>1$ the set $\mathcal{U}_q$ of real numbers $x$ having a unique representation of the form $\sum_{i=1}^\infty c_iq^{-i}=x$ with integers $c_i$ belonging to $[0,q)$. We carry out a detailed topological study of these sets. For instance, we characterize their closures, and we determine those bases $q$ for which $\mathcal{U}_q$ is closed or even a Cantor set. We also study the set $\mathcal{U}_q'$ consisting of all sequences $(c_i)$ of integers $c_i \in [0,q)$ such that $\sum_{i=1}^{\infty} c_i q^{-i} \in \mathcal{U}_q$. We determine the numbers $r >1$ for which the map $q \mapsto \mathcal{U}_q'$ (defined on $(1, \infty)$) is constant in a neighborhood of $r$ and the numbers $q >1$ for which $\mathcal{U}_q'$ is a subshift or a subshift of finite type.
Nonisomorphic Ordered Sets with Arbitrarily Many Ranks That Produce Equal Decks
We prove that for any $n$ there is a pair $(P_1 ^n , P_2 ^n )$ of nonisomorphic ordered sets such that $P_1 ^n $ and $P_2 ^n $ have equal maximal and minimal decks, equal neighborhood decks, and there are $n+1$ ranks $k_0 , \ldots , k_n $ such that for each $i$ the decks obtained by removing the points of rank $k_i $ are equal. The ranks $k_1 , \ldots , k_n $ do not contain extremal elements and at each of the other ranks there are elements whose removal will produce isomorphic cards. Moreover, we show that such sets can be constructed such that only for ranks $1$ and $2$, both without extremal elements, the decks obtained by removing the points of rank $r_i $ are not equal.
Polygon Convexity: A Minimal O(n) Test
An O(n) test for polygon convexity is stated and proved. It is also proved that the test is minimal in a certain exact sense.
Self-Matching Properties of Beatty Sequences
We study the selfmatching properties of Beatty sequences, in particular of the graph of the function $\lfloor jβ\rfloor $ against $j$ for every quadratic unit $β\in(0,1)$. We show that translation in the argument by an element $G_i$ of generalized Fibonacci sequence causes almost always the translation of the value of function by $G_{i-1}$. More precisely, for fixed $i\in\N$, we have $\bigl\lfloor β(j+G_i)\bigr\rfloor = \lfloor βj\rfloor +G_{i-1}$, where $j\notin U_i$. We determine the set $U_i$ of mismatches and show that it has a low frequency, namely $β^i$.
Shape-Wilf-ordering of permutations of length 3

The research on pattern-avoidance has yielded so far limited knowledge on Wilf-ordering of permutations. The Stanley-Wilf limits sqrt[n](|S_n(tau)|) and further works suggest asymptotic ordering of layered versus monotone patterns. Yet, Bona has provided the only known up to now result of its type on ordering of permutations: |S_n(1342)|<|S_n(1234)|<|S_n(1324)| for n>6. We give a different proof of this result by ordering S_3 up to the stronger shape-Wilf-order: |S_Y(213)|<=|S_Y(123)|<=|S_Y(312)| for any Young diagram Y, derive as a consequence that |S_Y(k+2,k+1,k+3,tau)|<=|S_Y(k+1,k+2,k+3,tau)|<= |S_Y(k+3,k+1,k+2,tau)| for any tau in S_k, and find out when equalities are obtained. (In particular, for specific Y's we find out that |S_Y(123)|=|S_Y(312)| coincide with every other Fibonacci term.) This strengthens and generalizes Bona's result to arbitrary length permutations. While all length-3 permutations have been shown in numerous ways to be Wilf-equivalent, the current paper distinguishes between and orders these permutations by employing all Young diagrams. This opens up the question of whether shape-Wilf-ordering of permutations, or some generalization of it, is not the ``true'' way of approaching pattern-avoidance ordering.

Using a class of permutation polynomials of $F_{3^{2h+1}}$ obtained from the Ree-Tits symplectic spreads in $PG(3,3^{2h+1})$, we construct a family of skew Hadamard difference sets in the additive group of $F_{3^{2h+1}}$. With the help of a computer, we show that these skew Hadamard difference sets are new when $h=2$ and $h=3$. We conjecture that they are always new when $h>3$. Furthermore, we present a variation of the classical construction of the twin prime power difference sets, and show that inequivalent skew Hadamard difference sets lead to inequivalent difference sets with twin prime power parameters.
