Planar Polynomials arising from Linearized polynomials
In this paper we construct planar polynomials of the type $f_{A,B}(x)=x(x^{q^2}+Ax^{q}+Bx)\in \mathbb{F}_{q^3}[x]$, with $A,B \in \mathbb{F}_{q}$. In particular we completely classify the pairs $(A,B)\in \mathbb{F}_{q}^2$ such that $f_{A,B}(x)$ is planar using connections with algebraic curves over finite fields.
Bent functions from triples of permutation polynomials
We provide constructions of bent functions using triples of permutations. This approach is due to Mesnager. In general, involutions have been mostly considered in such a machinery; we provide some other suitable triples of permutations, using monomials, binomials, trinomials, and quadrinomials.
Weierstrass semigroups at every point of the Suzuki curve

In this article we explicitly determine the structure of the Weierstrass semigroups $H(P)$ for any point $P$ of the Suzuki curve $\mathcal{S}_q$. As the point $P$ varies, exactly two possibilities arise for $H(P)$: one for the $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational points (already known in the literature), and one for all remaining points. For this last case a minimal set of generators of $H(P)$ is also provided. As an application, we construct dual one-point codes from an $\mathbb{F}_{q^4}\setminus\fq$-point whose parameters are better in some cases than the ones constructed in a similar way from an $\fq$-rational point.

Low-degree planar polynomials over finite fields of characteristic two

Planar functions are mappings from a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ to itself with an extremal differential property. Such functions give rise to finite projective planes and other combinatorial objects. There is a subtle difference between the definitions of these functions depending on the parity of $q$ and we consider the case that $q$ is even. We classify polynomials of degree at most $q^{1/4}$ that induce planar functions on $\mathbb{F}_q$, by showing that such polynomials are precisely those in which the degree of every monomial is a power of two. As a corollary we obtain a complete classification of exceptional planar polynomials, namely polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q$ that induce planar functions on infinitely many extensions of~$\mathbb{F}_q$. The proof strategy is to study the number of $\mathbb{F}_q$-rational points of an algebraic curve attached to a putative planar function.~Our methods also give a simple proof of a new partial result for the classification of almost perfect nonlinear~functions.
Permutation trinomials over $\mathbb{F}_{q^3}$
We consider four classes of polynomials over the fields $\mathbb{F}_{q^3}$, $q=p^h$, $p>3$, $f_1(x)=x^{q^2+q-1}+Ax^{q^2-q+1}+Bx$, $f_2(x)=x^{q^2+q-1}+Ax^{q^3-q^2+q}+Bx$, $f_3(x)=x^{q^2+q-1}+Ax^{q^2}-Bx$, $f_4(x)=x^{q^2+q-1}+Ax^{q}-Bx$, where $A,B \in \mathbb{F}_q$. We determine conditions on the pairs $(A,B)$ and we give lower bounds on the number of pairs $(A,B)$ for which these polynomials permute $\mathbb{F}_{q^3}$.

We consider the algebraic curve defined by $y^m = f(x)$ where $m \geq 2$ and $f(x)$ is a rational function over $\mathbb{F}_q$. We extend the concept of pure gap to {\bf c}-gap and obtain a criterion to decide when an $s$-tuple is a {\bf c}-gap at $s$ rational places on the curve. As an application, we obtain many families of pure gaps at two rational places on curves with many rational places.
Permutation polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ from rational functions
Let $μ_{q+1}$ denote the set of $(q+1)$-th roots of unity in $\mathbb{F}_{q^2 }$. We construct permutation polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ by using rational functions of any degree that induce bijections either on $μ_{q+1}$ or between $μ_{q+1}$ and $\mathbb{F}_q \cup \{\infty\}$. In particular, we generalize results from Zieve.

In this paper we investigate the number of minimum weight codewords of some dual Algebraic-Geometric codes associated with the Giulietti-Korchmáros maximal curve, by computing the maximal number of intersections between the Giulietti-Korchmáros curve and lines, plane conics and plane cubics.
On a conjecture about a class of permutation trinomials
We prove a conjecture by Tu, Zeng, Li, and Helleseth concerning trinomials $f_{α,β}(x)= x + αx^{q(q-1)+1} + βx^{2(q-1)+1} \in \mathbb{F}_{q^2}[x]$, $αβ\neq 0$, $q$ even, characterizing all the pairs $(α,β)\in \mathbb{F}_{q^2}^2$ for which $f_{α,β}(x)$ is a permutation of $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$.
Tables, bounds and graphics of short linear codes with covering radius 3 and codimension 4 and 5
The length function $\ell_q(r,R)$ is the smallest length of a $q$-ary linear code of codimension (redundancy) $r$ and covering radius $R$. The $d$-length function $\ell_q(r,R,d)$ is the smallest length of a $q$-ary linear code with codimension $r$, covering radius $R$, and minimum distance $d$. By computer search in wide regions of $q$, we obtained following short codes of covering radius $R=3$: $[n,n-4,5]_q3$ quasi-perfect MDS codes, $[n,n-5,5]_q3$ quasi-perfect Almost MDS codes, and $[n,n-5,3]_q3$ codes. In computer search, we use the step-by-step leximatrix and inverse leximatrix algorithms to obtain parity check matrices of codes. The new codes imply the following new upper bounds (called lexi-bounds) on the length and $d$-length functions: $$\ell_q(4,3)\le\ell_q(4,3,5)<2.8\sqrt[3]{\ln q}\cdot q^{(4-3)/3}=2.8\sqrt[3]{\ln q}\cdot\sqrt[3]{q}=2.8\sqrt[3]{q\ln q}~\text{for}~11\le q\le7057;$$ $$\ell_q(5,3)\le\ell_q(5,3,5)<3\sqrt[3]{\ln q}\cdot q^{(5-3)/3}=3\sqrt[3]{\ln q}\cdot\sqrt[3]{q^2}=3\sqrt[3]{q^2\ln q}~~\text{ for }~37\le q\le839.$$ Moreover, we improve the lexi-bounds, applying randomized greedy algorithms, and show that $$\ell_q(4,3)\le \ell_q(4,3,5)< 2.61\sqrt[3]{q\ln q}~\text{ if }~13\le q\le4373;$$ $$\ell_q(4,3)\le \ell_q(4,3,5)< 2.65\sqrt[3]{q\ln q}~\text{ if }~4373<q\le7057;$$ $$\ell_q(5,3)<2.785\sqrt[3]{q^2\ln q}~\text{ if }~11\le q\le401;$$ $$\ell_q(5,3)\le\ell_q(5,3,5)<2.884\sqrt[3]{q^2\ln q}~\text{ if }~401<q\le839.$$ The codes, obtained in this paper by leximatrix and inverse leximatrix algorithms, provide new upper bounds (called density lexi-bounds) on the smallest covering density $μ_q(r,R)$ of a $q$-ary linear code of codimension $r$ and covering radius $R$: $$μ_q(4,3)<3.3\cdot\ln q~~\text{ for }~11\le q\le7057;$$ $$μ_q(5,3)<4.2\cdot\ln q~~\text{ for }~37\le q\le839.$$

In this paper we construct functional codes from Denniston maximal arcs. For $q=2^{4n+2}$ we obtain linear codes with parameters $[(\sqrt{q}-1)(q+1),5,d]_q$ where $\lim_{q \to +\infty} d=(\sqrt{q}-1)q-3\sqrt{q}$. We also find for $q=16,32$ a number of linear codes which appear to have larger minimum distance with respect to the known codes with same length and dimension.

In this note we prove a conjecture by Li, Qu, Li, and Fu on permutation trinomials over $\mathbb{F}_3^{2k}$. In addition, new examples and generalizations of some families of permutation polynomials of $\mathbb{F}_{3^k}$ and $\mathbb{F}_{5^k}$ are given. We also study permutation quadrinomials of type $Ax^{q(q-1)+1} + Bx^{2(q-1)+1} + Cx^{q} + x$. Our method is based on the investigation of an algebraic curve associated with a {fractional polynomial} over a finite field.
Exceptional Scattered Polynomials

Let $f$ be an $\mathbb{F}_q$-linear function over $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$. If the $\mathbb{F}_q$-subspace $U= \{ (x^{q^t}, f(x)) : x\in \mathbb{F}_{q^n} \}$ defines a maximum scattered linear set, then we call $f$ a scattered polynomial of index $t$. As these polynomials appear to be very rare, it is natural to look for some classification of them. We say a function $f$ is an exceptional scattered polynomial of index $t$ if the subspace $U$ associated with $f$ defines a maximum scattered linear set in $\mathrm{PG}(1, q^{mn})$ for infinitely many $m$. Our main results are the complete classifications of exceptional scattered monic polynomials of index $0$ (for $q>5$) and of index $1$. The strategy applied here is to convert the original question into a special type of algebraic curves and then to use the intersection theory and the Hasse-Weil theorem to derive contradictions.
On the metric dimension of affine planes, biaffine planes and generalized quadrangles
In this paper the metric dimension of (the incidence graphs of) particular partial linear spaces is considered. We prove that the metric dimension of an affine plane of order $q\geq13$ is $3q-4$ and describe all resolving sets of that size if $q\geq 23$. The metric dimension of a biaffine plane (also called a flag-type elliptic semiplane) of order $q\geq 4$ is shown to fall between $2q-2$ and $3q-6$, while for Desarguesian biaffine planes the lower bound is improved to $8q/3-7$ under $q\geq 7$, and to $3q-9\sqrt{q}$ under certain stronger restrictions on $q$. We determine the metric dimension of generalized quadrangles of order $(s,1)$, $s$ arbitrary. We derive that the metric dimension of generalized quadrangles of order $(q,q)$, $q\geq2$, is at least $\max\{6q-27,4q-7\}$, while for the classical generalized quadrangles $W(q)$ and $Q(4,q)$ it is at most $8q$.
On permutation trinomials of type $x^{2p^s+r}+x^{p^{s}+r} +λx^r$
We determine all permutation trinomials of type $x^{2p^s+r}+x^{p^s+r}+λx^r$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{p^t}$ when $(2p^s+r)^4<p^t$. This partially extends a previous result by Bhattacharya and Sarkar in the case $p=2$, $r=1$.
AG codes and AG quantum codes from the GGS curve

In this paper, algebraic-geometric (AG) codes associated with the GGS maximal curve are investigated. The Weierstrass semigroup at all $\mathbb F_{q^2}$-rational points of the curve is determined; the Feng-Rao designed minimum distance is computed for infinite families of such codes, as well as the automorphism group. As a result, some linear codes with better relative parameters with respect to one-point Hermitian codes are discovered. Classes of quantum and convolutional codes are provided relying on the constructed AG codes.
Upper bounds on the smallest size of a saturating set in projective planes and spaces of even dimension
In a projective plane $Π_{q}$ (not necessarily Desarguesian) of order $q$, a point subset $\mathcal{S}$ is saturating (or dense) if any point of $Π_{q}\setminus \mathcal{S}$ is collinear with two points in $\mathcal{S}$. Modifying an approach of [31], we proved the following upper bound on the smallest size $s(2,q)$ of a saturating set in $Π_{q}$: \begin{equation*} s(2,q)\leq \sqrt{(q+1)\left(3\ln q+\ln\ln q +\ln\frac{3}{4}\right)}+\sqrt{\frac{q}{3\ln q}}+3. \end{equation*} The bound holds for all q, not necessarily large.
By using inductive constructions, upper bounds on the smallest size of a saturating set in the projective space $\mathrm{PG}(N,q)$ with even dimension $N$ are obtained.
All the results are also stated in terms of linear covering codes.

In this paper we present and analyze computational results concerning small complete caps in the projective spaces $\mathrm{PG}(N,q)$ of dimension $N=3$ and $N=4$ over the finite field of order $q$. The results have been obtained using randomized greedy algorithms and the algorithm with fixed order of points (FOP). The computations have been done in relatively wide regions of $q$ values; such wide regions are not considered in literature for $N=3,4$. The new complete caps are the smallest known. Basing on them, we obtained new upper bounds on $t_2(N,q)$, the minimum size of a complete cap in $\mathrm{PG}(N,q)$, in particular, \begin{align*} &t_{2}(N,q)<\sqrt{N+2}\cdot q^{\frac{N-1}{2^{\vphantom{H}}}}\sqrt{\ln q},\quad q\in L_{N},\quad N=3,4,\\ &t_{2}(N,q)<\left(\sqrt{N+1}+\frac{1.3}{\ln (2q)}\right)q^{\frac{N-1}{2^{\vphantom{H}}}}\sqrt{\ln q},\quad q\in L_{N},\quad N=3,4, \end{align*} where \begin{align*} &L_{3}:=\{q\le 4673, ~q\ \textrm{prime}\} \cup \{5003,6007,7001,8009\},\\ &L_{4}:=\{q\le 1361, ~q\ \textrm{prime}\} \cup \{1409\}. \end{align*} Our investigations and results allow to conjecture that these bounds hold for all $q$.
