Tilted Richardson Varieties
The study of the flag variety $\mathrm{Fl}_n$ and its subvarieties, including Schubert and Richardson varieties, plays a fundamental role in algebraic geometry and algebraic combinatorics. In this paper, we introduce and develop the theory of tilted Richardson varieties $\mathrm{T}_{u,v}$, a new family of subvarieties of the flag variety that provides a geometric framework for the quantum Bruhat graphs. These varieties are defined for all pairs of permutations $u$ and $v$, extending the classical Richardson varieties in the case where $u\leq v$ in the Bruhat order. We establish their fundamental geometric properties, proving irreducibility and providing explicit dimension formulas. Moreover, we show that they have a well-defined stratification indexed by tilted Bruhat intervals, a generalization of classical Bruhat intervals previously introduced by Brenti, Fomin, and Postnikov. Additionally, we introduce a tilted generalization of the classical Deodhar decomposition of Richardson varieties, which leads to a combinatorial formula for tilted Kazhdan--Lusztig R-polynomials, a notion that arises naturally in our framework.
We further develop a theory of total positivity for tilted Richardson varieties. In particular, we define and study the totally nonnegative parts of tilted Richardson varieties, proving they form a CW complex. This generalizes earlier results on the totally nonnegative flag variety and answers Björner's questions regarding geometric realizations of tilted Bruhat intervals.
Finally, we establish explicit connections between tilted Richardson varieties and quantum Schubert calculus. Specifically, we prove that $\mathrm{T}_{u,v}$ coincides with minimal-degree two-point curve neighborhoods. As a result, we compute their cohomology classes and derive new relationships among Gromov--Witten invariants of the flag variety.

For a simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ of type $A_n,B_n,C_n$ or $D_n$, we give a characterization of the set of dominant integral weights $λ$ such that for any rational point $μ$ in the fundamental Weyl chamber, $2λ-μ$ is a non-negative rational combination of the simple roots if and only if $V_{mμ}\subseteq V_{mλ}\otimes V_{mλ}$ for some positive integer $m$.
Standard Monomials for Positroid Varieties
We give an explicit characterization of the standard monomials for positroid varieties with respect to the Hodge degeneration and give a Gröbner basis. Furthermore, we show that promotion and evacuation biject standard monomials of a positroid variety with those of its cyclic shifts and $w_0$-reflection, respectively. The connection to promotion allows us to identify standard monomials of a positroid variety with Lam's cyclic Demazure crystal. Using a recurrence on the Hilbert series, we give an inductive formula for the character of cyclic Demazure modules.
Quantum Bruhat graphs and tilted Richardson varieties
Quantum Bruhat graph is a weighted directed graph on a finite Weyl group first defined by Brenti-Fomin-Postnikov. It encodes quantum Monk's rule and can be utilized to study the $3$-point Gromov-Witten invariants of the flag variety. In this paper, we provide an explicit formula for the minimal weights between any pair of permutations on the quantum Bruhat graph, and consequently obtain an Ehresmann-like characterization for the tilted Bruhat order. Moreover, for any ordered pair of permutations $u$ and $v$, we define the tilted Richardson variety $T_{u,v}$, with a stratification that gives a geometric meaning to intervals in the tilted Bruhat order. We provide a few equivalent definitions to this new family of varieties that include Richardson varieties, and establish some fundamental geometric properties including their dimensions and closure relations.

We provide a type-uniform formula for the degree of the stretched Kostka quasi-polynomial $K_{λ,μ}(N)$ in all classical types, improving a previous result by McAllister in $\mathfrak{sl}_r(\mathbb{C})$. Our proof relies on a combinatorial model for the weight multiplicity by Berenstein and Zelevinsky.

We introduce balanced shifted tableaux, as an analogue of balanced tableaux of Edelman and Greene, from the perspective of root systems of type B and C. We show that they are equinumerous to standard Young tableaux of the corresponding shifted shape by presenting an explicit bijection.

The Newell-Littlewood numbers are tensor product multiplicities of Weyl modules for the classical groups in the stable range. Littlewood-Richardson coefficients form a special case. Klyachko connected eigenvalues of sums of Hermitian matrices to the saturated LR-cone and established defining linear inequalities. We prove analogues for the saturated NL-cone: an eigenvalue interpretation; a minimal list of defining linear inequalities; a description by Extended Horn inequalities, as conjectured in part II of this series; and a factorization of NL-numbers, on the boundary.

The Kostka semigroup consists of pairs of partitions with at most r parts that have positive Kostka coefficient. For this semigroup, Hilbert basis membership is an NP-complete problem. We introduce KGR graphs and conservative subtrees, through the Gale-Ryser theorem on contingency tables, as a criterion for membership. In our main application, we show that if a partition pair is in the Hilbert basis then the partitions are at most r wide. We also classify the extremal rays of the associated polyhedral cone; these rays correspond to a (strict) subset of the Hilbert basis. In an appendix, the second and third authors show that a natural extension of our main result on the Kostka semigroup cannot be extended to the Littlewood-Richardson semigroup. This furthermore gives a counterexample to a recent speculation of P. Belkale concerning the semigroup controlling nonvanishing conformal blocks.

We provide a non-recursive, combinatorial classification of multiplicity-free skew Schur polynomials. These polynomials are $GL_n$, and $SL_n$, characters of the skew Schur modules. Our result extends work of H. Thomas--A. Yong, and C. Gutschwager, in which they classify the multiplicity-free skew Schur functions.

The Newell-Littlewood numbers $N_{μ,ν,λ}$ are tensor product multiplicities of Weyl modules for classical Lie groups, in the stable limit. For which triples of partitions $(μ,ν,λ)$ does $N_{μ,ν,λ}>0$ hold? The Littlewood-Richardson coefficient case is solved by the Horn inequalities (in work of A. Klyachko and A. Knutson-T. Tao). We extend these celebrated linear inequalities to a much larger family, suggesting a general solution.

The Newell-Littlewood numbers are defined in terms of their celebrated cousins, the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. Both arise as tensor product multiplicities for a classical Lie group. They are the structure coefficients of the K. Koike-I. Terada basis of the ring of symmetric functions. Recent work of H. Hahn studies them, motivated by R. Langlands' beyond endoscopy proposal; we address her work with a simple characterization of detection of Weyl modules. This motivates further study of the combinatorics of the numbers. We consider analogues of ideas of J. De Loera-T. McAllister, H. Derksen-J. Weyman, S. Fomin-W. Fulton-C.-K. Li-Y.-T. Poon, W. Fulton, R. King-C. Tollu-F. Toumazet, M. Kleber, A. Klyachko, A. The $(2,2)$ and $(4,3)$ properties in families of fat sets in the plane

A family of sets satisfies the $(p,q)$ property if among every $p$ members of it some $q$ intersect. Given a number $0<r\le 1$, a set $S\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ is called $r$-fat if there exists a point $c\in S$ such that $B(c,r) \subseteq S\subseteq B(c,1)$, where $B(c,r)\subset \mathbb{R}^2$ is a disk of radius $r$ with center-point $c$. We prove constant upper bounds $C=C(r)$ on the piercing numbers in families of $r$-fat sets in $\mathbb{R}^2$ that satisfy the $(2,2)$ or the $(4,3)$ properties. This extends results by Danzer and Karasev on the piercing numbers in intersecting families of disks in the plane, as well as a result by Kynčl and Tancer on the piercing numbers in families of units disks in the plane satisfying the $(4,3)$ property.
