The Complexity of Weak Saturation for Complete graphs and Balanced Complete Bipartite Graphs
For graphs $F$ and $H$, a spanning subgraph $G$ of $F$ is weakly $H$-saturated in $F$ if the edges in $E(F)\setminus E(G)$ can be added one at a time, each addition creating a new copy of $H$. Recently, Tancer and Tyomkyn proved that, given an $n$-vertex graph $F$, deciding whether $\mathrm{wsat}(F,K_3)=n-1$ is NP-hard. In this paper, we study the decision version of the weak saturation problem and show that, for every fixed integer $r\ge 3$, given a graph $F$ and an integer $k$, deciding whether $\mathrm{wsat}(F,H)\le k$ is NP-complete when $H\in\{K_r,K_{r,r}\}$. Our approach uses new graph-theoretic and topological ideas and techniques, yielding new constructions that build on the construction of Tancer and Tyomkyn. In particular, our proofs further reveal a connection between weak saturation and the flag-no-square property, a fundamental property in topology that is of independent interest.
Two problems of Burr, Erd\H os, Graham, and Sós on maximal anti-Ramsey functions for $P_4$
Burr, Erd\H os, Graham, and Sós introduced the maximal anti-Ramsey function $χ_{\mathrm{S}}(n,e,L)$, the minimum number of colors required over all $n$-vertex graphs with at least $e$ edges such that every copy of $L$ is rainbow. In \cite{BEGS1989}, they posed the following two problems: (i) Is it true that there exists $C>0$, such that for all $u\ge 1$, $χ_{\mathrm{S}}\left(n,\lfloor un \rfloor,P_4 \right)<Cu$ holds for all sufficiently large $n$? (ii) Is it true that for all $ε>0$, there exists $c(ε)>0$ such that for all sufficiently large $n$, \\ $χ_{\mathrm{S}}\left(n,\binom{n}{2}-\lfloor n^{2-ε} \rfloor,P_4 \right)>c(ε)n^{2}$? In this note, we give an affirmative answer to the first problem and a negative answer to the second problem.
For the first problem, our proof uses a local density inequality with strong edge-colorings of odd Kneser graphs. In particular, our proof uses the characterization by Lužar, Máčajová, Škoviera, and Soták of~$k$-regular graphs whose strong chromatic index equals~$2k-1$. For the second result, our main tool is the construction of Alon, Moitra, and Sudakov. We show that for every fixed~$0<ε<1/2$ there exist~$γ>0$ and arbitrarily large~$n$ such that~$χ_{\mathrm{S}}\bigl(n,\tbinom{n}{2}-\lfloor n^{2-ε}\rfloor,P_4\bigr)\;\le\; n^{2-γ}=o(n^{2}).$
Saturation numbers for $3$-uniform Berge-$K_4$
The saturation number $\text{sat}_r(n,\mathcal{F})$ is the minimum number of hyperedges in an $r$-uniform $\mathcal{F}$-saturated hypergraph on $n$ vertices. We determine this parameter for $3$-uniform Berge-$K_4$ hypergraphs, proving that $\text{sat}_3(n,\text{Berge-}K_4)=n$ for $n =5,7,8$ and $n\ge 96$, while $\text{sat}_3(6,\text{Berge-}K_4)=5$. This resolves a problem posed by English, Kritschgau, Nahvi, and Sprangel~\cite{EKNS2024} for large $n.$ Using a computer search, we classify all extremal hypergraphs for $5\le n\le 8.$ For $n\geq 96$, we further show the existence of many non-isomorphic extremal families. Our approach synthesizes structural insights with computational power.
On the $4$-clique cover number of graphs
In 1966, Erdős, Goodman, and Pósa proved that $\lfloor n^2/4 \rfloor$ cliques are sufficient to cover all edges in any $n$-vertex graph, with tightness achieved by the balanced complete bipartite graph. This result was generalized by Dau, Milenkovic, and Puleo, who showed that at most $\lfloor \frac n 3 \rfloor \lfloor \frac {n+1} 3 \rfloor \lfloor \frac {n+2} 3 \rfloor$ cliques are needed to cover all triangles in any $n$-vertex graph $G$, and the bound is best possible as witnessed by the balanced complete tripartite graph. They further conjectured that for $t \geq 4$, the $t$-clique cover number is maximized by the Turán graph $T_{n,t}$. We confirm their conjecture for $t=4$ using novel techniques, including inductive frameworks, greedy partition method, local adjustments, and clique-counting lemmas by Erdős and by Moon and Moser.
Weak rainbow saturation numbers of graphs

For a fixed graph $H$, we say that an edge-colored graph $G$ is \emph{weakly $H$-rainbow saturated} if there exists an ordering $e_1, e_2, \ldots, e_m$ of $E\left(\overline{G}\right)$ such that, for any list $c_1, c_2, \ldots, c_m$ of pairwise distinct colors from $\mathbb{N}$, the non-edges $e_i$ in color $c_i$ can be added to $G$, one at a time, so that every added edge creates a new rainbow copy of $H$. The \emph{weak rainbow saturation number} of $H$, denoted by $rwsat(n,H)$, is the minimum number of edges in a weakly $H$-rainbow saturated graph on $n$ vertices. In this paper, we show that for any non-empty graph $H$, the limit $\lim_{n\to \infty} \frac{rwsat(n, H)}{n}$ exists. This answers a question of Behague, Johnston, Letzter, Morrison and Ogden [{\it SIAM J. Discrete Math.} (2023)]. We also provide lower and upper bounds on this limit, and in particular, we show that this limit is nonzero if and only if $H$ contains no pendant edges.
Counting triangles in regular graphs
In this paper, we investigate the minimum number of triangles, denoted by $t(n,k)$, in $n$-vertex $k$-regular graphs, where $n$ is an odd integer and $k$ is an even integer. The well-known Andrásfai-Erdős-Sós Theorem has established that $t(n,k)>0$ if $k>\frac{2n}{5}$. In a striking work, Lo has provided the exact value of $t(n,k)$ for sufficiently large $n$, given that $\frac{2n}{5}+\frac{12\sqrt{n}}{5}<k<\frac{n}{2}$. Here, we bridge the gap between the aforementioned results by determining the precise value of $t(n,k)$ in the entire range $\frac{2n}{5}<k<\frac{n}{2}$. This confirms a conjecture of Cambie, de Joannis de Verclos, and Kang for sufficiently large $n$.

Bondy and Vince showed that every graph with minimum degree at least three contains two cycles of lengths differing by one or two.We prove the following average degree counterpart that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with at least $\frac52(n-1)$ edges, unless $4|(n-1)$ and every block of $G$ is a clique $K_5$, contains two cycles of consecutive even lengths. Our proof is mainly based on structural analysis, and a crucial step which may be of independent interest shows that the same conclusion holds for every 3-connected graph with at least 6 vertices. This solves a special case of a conjecture of Verstraëte. The quantitative bound is tight and also provides the optimal extremal number for cycles of length two modulo four.
