Quasi-Hermitian Varieties and Their Barlotti--Cofman Representation
Quasi-Hermitian varieties arise as higher-dimensional generalizations of non-classical unitals, including the Buekenhout--Metz (BM) and Buekenhout--Tits (BT) families.
After reviewing known constructions and structural properties, we determine explicitly the BC representation of BM and BT quasi-Hermitian varieties in $\mathrm{PG}(3,q^2)$ inside $\mathrm{PG}(6,q)$. We prove that BM varieties correspond to quadratic cones with hyperbolic base, whereas BT varieties give rise to non-quadratic cones, and we describe the associated configuration of spread elements in the section at infinity.
These results provide a geometric interpretation of the non-classical nature of BM and BT varieties within the BC framework.
Minimal codes from hypersurfaces in even characteristic
The setting of projective systems can be used to study the parameters of a projective linear code $\mathcal{C}$. This can be done by considering the intersections of the point set $Ω$ defined by the columns of a generating matrix for $\mathcal{C}$ with the hyperplanes of a projective space. In particular, $\mathcal{C}$ is minimal if $Ω$ is cutting, i.e., every hyperplane is spanned by its intersection with $Ω$. Minimal linear codes have important applications for secret sharing schemes and secure two-party computation. In this article we first investigate the properties of some algebraic hypersurfaces $\mathcal{V}_{\varepsilon}^r$ related to certain quasi-Hermitian varieties of $\mathrm{PG}(r,q^2)$, with $q=2^e$, $e>1$ odd. These varieties give rise to a new infinite family of linear codes which are minimal except for $r=3$ and $e\equiv 1 \pmod 4$. In the case $r \in \{3,4\}$, we exhibit codes having at most 6 non-zero weights whose we provide the complete list. As a byproduct, we obtain $(r+1)$-dimensional codes with just $3$ non-zero weights. We point out that linear codes with few weights are also important in authentication codes and association schemes. In the last part of the paper we consider an extension of the notion of being cutting with respect to subspaces other than hyperplanes and introduce the definition of cutting gap in order to characterize and measure what happens when this property is not satisfied. Finally, we then apply these notions to Hermitian codes and to the codes related to $\mathcal{V}_\varepsilon^r$ discussed before.
Cohomology Rings of Toric Wonderful Model
We describe the cohomology ring of toric wonderful models for arbitrary building set, including the case of non well-connected ones. Our techniques are based on blowups of posets, on Gröbner basis over rings and admissible functions.

Let $\mathcal W$ be a non-empty set of points of a finite Desarguesian projective space $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$. A collection of varieties of $\mathrm{PG}(n,q)$ is \emph{mutually $μ$-intersecting (relatively to $\mathcal W$)} if its elements meet all $\mathcal W$ in the same number of points and pairwise intersect in $\mathcal W$ in exactly $μ$-points. Here we construct a new family of mutually $μ$-intersecting algebraic varieties by using certain quasi-Hermitian varieties of $\mathrm{PG}(n,q^2)$ where $q$ is any prime power. With the help of these quasi-Hermitian varieties we provide a new construction of $5$-dimensional MDS codes over ${\mathbb F}_q$ as well as an infinite family of simple orthogonal arrays $OA(q^{2n-1},q^{2n-2},q,2)$ of index $μ=q^{2n-3}$.
Chromatic functions, interval orders and increasing forests
The chromatic quasisymmetric functions (csf) of Shareshian and Wachs associated to unit interval orders have attracted a lot of interest since their introduction in 2016, both in combinatorics and geometry, because of their relation to the famous Stanley-Stembridge conjecture (1993) and to the topology of Hessenberg varieties, respectively. In the present work we study the csf associated to the larger class of interval orders with no restriction on the length of the intervals. Inspired by an article of Abreu and Nigro, we show that these csf are weighted sums of certain quasisymmetric functions associated to the increasing spanning forests of the associated incomparability graphs. Furthermore, we define quasisymmetric functions that include the unicellular LLT symmetric functions and generalize an identity due to Carlsson and Mellit. Finally we conjecture a formula giving their expansion in the type 1 power sum quasisymmetric functions which should extend a theorem of Athanasiadis.

In this paper we study the BM quasi-Hermitian varieties introduced in [A. Aguglia, A. Cossidente, G. Korchmàros, On quasi-Hermitian Varieties, J. Combin. Des. 20 (2012) 433-447.] in characteristc $2$ and dimension $3$. After a brief investigation of their combinatorial properties, we first show that all of these varieties are projectively equivalent, exhibiting a behavior which is strikingly different from what happens in odd characteristic, see [A. Aguglia, L. Giuzzi, On the equivalence of certain quasi-Hermitian varieties, J. Combin. Des. 1-15 (2022)]. This completes the classification project started in that paper. Here we prove more; indeed, by using previous results, we explicitly determine the structure of the full collineation group stabilizing these varieties. Finally, as a byproduct of our investigation, we also construct a family of simple orthogonal arrays $O(q^5,q^4,q,2)$, with entries in $\mathrm{GF}{q}$, where $q$ is an even prime power. Orthogonal arrays (OA's) are principally used to minimize the number of experiments needed in order to investigate how variables in testing interact with each other.
Subgroup growth in free class-$2$-nilpotent groups
We describe an effective procedure to compute the local subgroup zeta functions of the free class-$2$-nilpotent groups on $d$ generators, for all $d$. For $d=4$, this yields a new, explicit formula. For $d\in\{4,5\}$, we compute the topological subgroup zeta function. We also obtain general results about the reduced and topological subalgebra zeta functions. For the former, we determine the behaviour at one and for the latter, the degree and behaviours at zero and infinity. Some of these results confirm, in the relevant special cases, general conjectures by T. Rossmann.

In this paper we find monomial bases for the integer cohomology rings of compact wonderful models of toric arrangements. In the description of the monomials various combinatorial objects come into play: building sets, nested sets, and the fan of a suitable toric variety. We provide some examples computed via a SageMath program and then we focus on the case of the toric arrangements associated with root systems of type A. Here the combinatorial description of our basis offers a geometrical point of view on the relation between some Eulerian statistics on the symmetric group.

We study the Ricci curvature of the Hasse diagrams of the Bruhat order of finite irreducible Coxeter groups. For this purpose we compute the maximum degree of these graphs for types $B_n$ and $D_n$. The proof uses a new graph $Γ(π)$ defined for any element $π$ in the corresponding group.

We consider the notion of discrete Ricci curvature for graphs defined by Schmuckenschl{ä}ger \cite{shmuck} and compute its value for Bruhat graphs associated to finite Coxeter groups. To do so we work with the geometric realization of a finite Coxeter group and a classical result obtained by Dyer in \cite{Dyer}. As an application we obtain a bound for the spectral gap of the Bruhat graph of any finite Coxeter group and an isoperimetric inequality for them. Our proofs are case-free.

We express the discrete Ricci curvature of a graph as the minimal eigenvalue of a family of matrices, one for each vertex of a graph whose entries depend on the local adjaciency structure of the graph. Using this method we compute or bound the Ricci curvature of Cayley graphs of finite Coxeter groups and affine Weyl groups. As an application we obtain an isoperimetric inequality that holds for all Cayley graphs of finite Coxeter groups.

For any triple given by a positive integer n, a finite group G, and a faithful representation V of G, one can describe a subspace arrangement whose intersection lattice is a generalized Dowling lattice in the sense of Hanlon. In this paper we construct the minimal De Concini-Procesi wonderful model associated to this subspace arrangement and give a description of its boundary. Our aim is to point out the nice poset provided by the intersections of the irreducible components in the boundary, which provides a geometric realization of the nested set poset of this generalized Dowling lattice. It can be represented by a family of forests with leaves and labelings that depend on the triple (n,G,V). We will study it from the enumerative point of view in the case when G is abelian.
