Let $G$ be a simple graph with $n$ vertices and let $$C(G;x)=\sum_{k=0}^n(-1)^{n-k}c(G,k)x^k$$ denote the Laplacian characteristic polynomial of $G$. Then if the size $|E(G)|$ is large compared to the maximum degree $Δ(G)$, Laplacian coefficients $c(G,k)$ are approximately normally distributed (by central and local limit theorems). We show that Laplacian coefficients of the paths, the cycles, the stars, the wheels and regular graphs of degree $d$ are approximately normally distributed respectively. We also point out that Laplacian coefficients of the complete graphs and the complete bipartite graphs are approximately Poisson distributed respectively.

Tutte's $3$-flow conjecture states that every $4$-edge-connected graph admits a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. In this paper, we characterize all graphs with independence number at most $4$ that admit a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. The characterization of $3$-flow verifies Tutte's $3$-flow conjecture for graphs with independence number at most $4$ and with order at least $21$. In addition, we prove that every odd-$5$-edge-connected graph with independence number at most $3$ admits a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. To obtain these results, we introduce a new reduction method to handle odd wheels.
Bipartite bi-Cayley graphs over metacyclic groups of odd prime-power order
A graph $Γ$ is a bi-Cayley graph over a group $G$ if $G$ is a semiregular group of automorphisms of $Γ$ having two orbits. Let $G$ be a non-abelian metacyclic $p$-group for an odd prime $p$, and let $Γ$ be a connected bipartite bi-Cayley graph over the group $G$. In this paper, we prove that $G$ is normal in the full automorphism group ${\rm Aut}(Γ)$ of $Γ$ when $G$ is a Sylow $p$-subgroup of ${\rm Aut}(Γ)$. As an application, we classify half-arc-transitive bipartite bi-Cayley graphs over the group $G$ of valency less than $2p$. Furthermore, it is shown that there are no semisymmetric and no arc-transitive bipartite bi-Cayley graphs over the group $G$ of valency less than $p$.

We prove the total positivity of the Narayana triangles of type $A$ and type $B$, and thus affirmatively confirm a conjecture of Chen, Liang and Wang and a conjecture of Pan and Zeng. We also prove the strict total positivity of the Narayana squares of type $A$ and type $B$.

We show that Stieltjes moment sequences are infinitely log-convex, which parallels a famous result that (finite) Pólya frequency sequences are infinitely log-concave. We introduce the concept of $q$-Stieltjes moment sequences of polynomials and show that many well-known polynomials in combinatorics are such sequences. We provide a criterion for linear transformations and convolutions preserving Stieltjes moment sequences. Many well-known combinatorial sequences are shown to be Stieltjes moment sequences in a unified approach and therefore infinitely log-convex, which in particular settles a conjecture of Chen and Xia about the infinite log-convexity of the Schröder numbers. We also list some interesting problems and conjectures about the log-convexity and the Stieltjes moment property of the (generalized) Apéry numbers.

A graph is called {\em half-arc-transitive} if its full automorphism group acts transitively on vertices and edges, but not on arcs. It is well known that for any prime $p$ there is no tetravalent half-arc-transitive graph of order $p$ or $p^2$. Xu~[Half-transitive graphs of prime-cube order, J. Algebraic Combin. 1 (1992) 275-282] classified half-arc-transitive graphs of order $p^3$ and valency $4$. In this paper we classify half-arc-transitive graphs of order $p^3$ and valency $6$ or $8$. In particular, the first known infinite family of half-arc-transitive Cayley graphs on non-metacyclic $p$-groups is constructed.

Let $f(q)=a_rq^r+\cdots+a_sq^s$, with $a_r\neq 0$ and $a_s\neq 0$, be a real polynomial. It is a palindromic polynomial of darga $n$ if $r+s=n$ and $a_{r+i}=a_{s-i}$ for all $i$. Polynomials of darga $n$ form a linear subspace $\mathcal{P}_n(q)$ of $\mathbb{R}(q)_{n+1}$ of dimension $\lfloor{n/2}\rfloor+1$. We give transition matrices between two bases $\left\{q^j(1+q+\cdots+q^{n-2j})\right\}, \left\{q^j(1+q)^{n-2j}\right\}$ and the standard basis $\left\{q^j(1+q^{n-2j})\right\}$ of $\mathcal{P}_n(q)$. We present some characterizations and sufficient conditions for palindromic polynomials that can be expressed in terms of these two bases with nonnegative coefficients. We also point out the link between such polynomials and rank-generating functions of posets.

Let $A=[a_{n,k}]_{n,k\ge 0}$ be an infinite lower triangular matrix defined by the recurrence $$a_{0,0}=1,\quad a_{n+1,k}=r_{k}a_{n,k-1}+s_{k}a_{n,k}+t_{k+1}a_{n,k+1},$$ where $a_{n,k}=0$ unless $n\ge k\ge 0$ and $r_k,s_k,t_k$ are all nonnegative. Many well-known combinatorial triangles are such matrices, including the Pascal triangle, the Stirling triangle (of the second kind), the Bell triangle, the Catalan triangles of Aigner and Shapiro. We present some sufficient conditions such that the recursive matrix $A$ is totally positive. As applications we give the total positivity of the above mentioned combinatorial triangles in a unified approach.

We provide sufficient conditions under which the Catalan-like numbers are Stieltjes moment sequences. As applications, we show that many well-known counting coefficients, including the Bell numbers, the Catalan numbers, the central binomial coefficients, the central Delannoy numbers, the factorial numbers, the large and little Schröder numbers, are Stieltjes moment sequences in a unified approach.

A graph in a certain graph class is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of the graph attains the minimum among all graphs in that class. Bell {\it et al.} have characterized the minimizing graphs in the class of connected graphs of order $n$ and size $m$, whose complements are either disconnected or contain a clique of order at least $n/2$. In this paper we discuss the minimizing graphs of a special class of graphs of order $n$ whose complements are connected and contains exactly one cycle (namely the the class $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ of graphs whose complements are unicyclic), and characterize the unique minimizing graph in $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ when $n \geq 20$.

In this paper we determine the graph whose least eigenvalue of signless Laplacian attains the minimum or maximum among all connected non-bipartite graphs of fixed order and given number of pendant vertices. Thus we obtain a lower bound and an upper bound for the least eigenvalue of signless Laplacian of a graph in terms of the number of pendent vertices.

Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$, let $λ_1(G),λ_2(G),...,λ_n(G)$ be the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of $G$. The Esrada index of $G$ is defined as $EE(G)=\sum_{i=1}^{n}e^{λ_i(G)}$. In this paper we determine the unique graph with maximum Estrada index among bicyclic graphs with fixed order.

Many sequences of binomial coefficients share various unimodality properties. In this paper we consider the unimodality problem of a sequence of binomial coefficients located in a ray or a transversal of the Pascal triangle. Our results give in particular an affirmative answer to a conjecture of Belbachir et al which asserts that such a sequence of binomial coefficients must be unimodal. We also propose two more general conjectures.

Let $P(x)$ be a polynomial of degree $m$, with nonnegative and non-decreasing coefficients. We settle the conjecture that for any positive real number $d$, the coefficients of $P(x+d)$ form a unimodal sequence, of which the special case $d$ being a positive integer has already been asserted in a previous work. Further, we explore the location of modes of $P(x+d)$ and present some sufficient conditions on $m$ and $d$ for which $P(x+d)$ has the unique mode $\lceil{m-d\over d+1}\rceil$.
