Spectral characterization of the complete graph removing a path of small length
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph $G$ is said to be \emph{determined by its spectrum} if any graph having the same spectrum as $G$ is isomorphic to $G$. Let $K_n \setminus P_{\ell}$ be the graph obtained from $K_n$ by removing edges of $P_\ell$, where $P_\ell$ is a path of length $\ell-1$ which is a subgraph of a complete graph $K_n$. Cámara and Haemers~\cite{MC} conjectured that $K_n \backslash P_{\ell}$ is determined by its adjacency spectrum for every $2\leq \ell \leq n$. In this paper we show that the conjecture is true for $7\leq \ell \leq9$.

On the spectrum of linear dependence graph of finite dimensional vector spaces
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we introduce a graph structure called linear dependence graph of a finite dimensional vector space over a finite field. Some basic properties of the graph like connectedness, completeness, planarity, clique number, chromatic number etc. have been studied. It is shown that two vector spaces are isomorphic if and only if their corresponding linear dependence graphs are isomorphic. Also adjacency spectrum, Laplacian spectrum and distance spectrum of the linear dependence graph have been studied.

On Exchange Spectra of Valued Cluster Quivers and Cluster Algebras
Published • View PublicationBIB
Inspirited by the importance of the spectral theory of graphs, we introduce the spectral theory of valued cluster quiver of a cluster algebra. Our aim is to characterize a cluster algebra via its spectrum so as to use the spectral theory as a tool. First, we give the relations between exchange spectrum of a valued cluster quiver and adjacency spectrum of its underlying valued graph, and between exchange spectra of a valued cluster quiver and its full valued subquivers. The key point is to find some invariants from the spectrum theory under mutations of cluster algebras, which is the second part we discuss. We give a sufficient and necessary condition for a cluster quiver and its mutation to be cospectral. Following this discussion, the so-called cospectral subalgebra of a cluster algebra is introduced. We study bounds of exchange spectrum radii of cluster quivers and give a characterization of $2$-maximal cluster quivers via the classification of oriented graphs of its mutation equivalence. Finally, as an application of this result, we obtain that the preprojective algebra of a cluster quiver of Dynkin type is representation-finite if and only if the cluster quiver is $2$-maximal.

Resistance distance and Kirchhoff index in the corona-vertex and the corona $-$ edge of subdivision graph
Published • View PublicationBIB
The subdivision graph $S(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the graph obtained by inserting a new vertex into every edge of $G$. In $\cite{PL}$, two classes of new corona graphs, the corona-vertex of the subdivision graph $G_{1}\diamondsuit G_{2}$ and corona-edge of the subdivision graph $G_{1}\star G_{2}$ were defined. The adjacency spectrum and the signless Laplacian spectrum of the two new graphs were computed when $G_{1}$ is an arbitrary graph and $G_{2}$ is an $r$-regular graph. In this paper, we give the formulate of the resistance distance and the Kirchhoff index in $G_{1}\diamondsuit G_{2}$ and $G_{1}\star G_{2}$ when $G_{1}$ and $G_{2}$ are arbitrary graphs. These results generalize them in $\cite{PL}$.

On the spectral characterization of pineapple graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The pineapple graph $K_p^q$ is obtained by appending $q$ pendant edges to a vertex of a complete graph $K_{p}$ ($q\geq 1,\ p\geq 3$). Zhang and Zhang ["Some graphs determined by their spectra", Linear Algebra and its Applications, 431 (2009) 1443-1454] claim that the pineapple graphs are determined by their adjacency spectrum. We show that their claim is false by constructing graphs which are cospectral and non-isomorphic with $K_p^q$ for every $p\geq 4$ and various values of $q$. In addition we prove that the claim is true if $q=2$, and refer to the literature for $q=1$, $p=3$, and $(p,q)=(4,3)$.

On the spectral characterization of Kite graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
The \textit{Kite graph}, denoted by $Kite_{p,q}$ is obtained by appending a complete graph $K_{p}$ to a pendant vertex of a path $P_{q}$. In this paper, firstly we show that no two non-isomorphic kite graphs are cospectral w.r.t adjacency matrix. Let $G$ be a graph which is cospectral with $Kite_{p,q}$ and the clique number of $G$ is denoted by $w(G)$. Then, it is shown that $w(G)\geq p-2q+1$. Also, we prove that $Kite_{p,2}$ graphs are determined by their adjacency spectrum.

Hermitian adjacency spectrum and switching equivalence of mixed graphs
Published • View PublicationBIB
It is shown that an undirected graph $G$ is cospectral with the Hermitian adjacency matrix of a mixed graph $D$ obtained from a subgraph $H$ of $G$ by orienting some of its edges if and only if $H=G$ and $D$ is obtained from $G$ by a four-way switching operation; if $G$ is connected, this happens if and only if $λ_1(G)=λ_1(D)$. All mixed graphs of rank 2 are determined and this is used to classify which mixed graphs of rank 2 are cospectral with respect to their Hermitian adjacency matrix. Several families of mixed graphs are found that are determined by their Hermitian spectrum in the sense that they are cospectral precisely to those mixed graphs that are switching equivalent to them.
Groups all of whose undirected Cayley graphs are determined by their spectra
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a finite group, and $S$ be a subset of $G\setminus\{1\}$ such that $S=S^{-1}$. Suppose that $Cay(G,S)$ is the Cayley graph on $G$ with respect to the set $S$ which is the graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two vertices $a,b\in G$ are adjacent if and only if $ab^{-1}\in S$. The adjacency spectrum $Spec(Γ)$ of a graph $Γ$ is the multiset of eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix. A graph $Γ$ is called "determined by its spectrum" (or for short DS) whenever if a graph $Γ'$ has the same spectrum as $Γ$, then $Γ\cong Γ'$. We say that the group $G$ is DS (Cay-DS, respectively) whenever if $Γ$ is a Cayley graph over $G$ and $Spec(Γ)=Spec(Γ')$ for some graph (Cayley graph, respectively) $Γ'$, then $Γ\cong Γ'$. In this paper, we study finite DS groups and finite Cay-DS groups. In particular we prove that all finite DS groups are solvable and all Sylow $p$-subgroups of a finite DS group is cyclic for all $p\geq 5$. We also give several infinite families of non Cay-DS solvable groups. In particular we prove that there exist two cospectral non-isomorphic $6$-regular Cayley graphs on the dihedral group of order $2p$ for any prime $p\geq 13$.
Godsil-McKay switching and isomorphism
Published • View PublicationBIB
Godsil-McKay switching is an operation on graphs that doesn't change the spectrum of the adjacency matrix. Usually (but not always) the obtained graph is non-isomorphic with the original graph. We present a straightforward sufficient condition for being isomorphic after switching, and give examples which show that this condition is not necessary. For some graph products we obtain sufficient conditions for being non-isomorphic after switching. As an example we find that the tensor product of the $\ell\times m$ grid ($\ell>m\geq 2$) and a graph with at least one vertex of degree two is not determined by its adjacency spectrum.

The spectra and the signless Laplacian spectra of graphs with pockets
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $G[F,V_k,H_v]$ be the graph with $k$ pockets, where $F$ is a simple graph of order $n\geq1$, $V_k=\{v_1,\ldots,v_k\}$ is a subset of the vertex set of $F$ and $H_v$ is a simple graph of order $m\geq2$, $v$ is a specified vertex of $H_v$. Also let $G[F,E_k,H_{uv}]$ be the graph with $k$ edge-pockets, where $F$ is a simple graph of order $n\geq2$, $E_k=\{e_1,\ldots,e_k\}$ is a subset of the edge set of $F$ and $H_{uv}$ is a simple graph of order $m\geq3$, $uv$ is a specified edge of $H_{uv}$ such that $H_{uv}-u$ is isomorphic to $H_{uv}-v$. In this paper, we obtain some results describing the signless Laplacian spectra of $G[F,V_k,H_v]$ and $G[F,E_k,H_{uv}]$ in terms of the signless Laplacian spectra of $F,H_v$ and $F,H_{uv}$, respectively. In addition, we also give some results describing the adjacency spectrum of $G[F,V_k,H_v]$ in terms of the adjacency spectra of $F,H_v$. Finally, as an application of these results, we construct infinitely many pairs of signless Laplacian (resp. adjacency) cospectral graphs.

The Laplacian spectral excess theorem for distance-regular graphs
Published in Linear Algebra and its Applications 458 (2014), 245-250 • View PublicationBIB
The spectral excess theorem states that, in a regular graph G, the average excess, which is the mean of the numbers of vertices at maximum distance from a vertex, is bounded above by the spectral excess (a number that is computed by using the adjacency spectrum of G), and G is distance-regular if and only if equality holds. In this note we prove the corresponding result by using the Laplacian spectrum without requiring regularity of G.
Graphs cospectral with a friendship graph or its complement
Let $n$ be any positive integer and let $F_n$ be the friendship (or Dutch windmill) graph with $2n+1$ vertices and $3n$ edges. Here we study graphs with the same adjacency spectrum as the $F_n$. Two graphs are called cospectral if the eigenvalues multiset of their adjacency matrices are the same. Let $G$ be a graph cospectral with $F_n$. Here we prove that if $G$ has no cycle of length 4 or 5, then $G\cong F_n$. Moreover if $G$ is connected and planar then $G\cong F_n$. All but one of connected components of $G$ are isomorphic to $K_2$. The complement $\bar{F_n}$ of the friendship graph is determined by its adjacency eigenvalues, that is, if $\bar{F_n}$ is cospectral with a graph $H$, then $H\cong \bar{F_n}$.

Groups all of whose undirected Cayley graphs are integral
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics 38 (2014) 102-109 • View PublicationBIB
Let $G$ be a finite group, $S\subseteq G\setminus\{1\}$ be a set such that if $a\in S$, then $a^{-1}\in S$, where $1$ denotes the identity element of $G$. The undirected Cayley graph $Cay(G,S)$ of $G$ over the set $S$ is the graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two vertices $a$ and $b$ are adjacent whenever $ab^{-1}\in S$. The adjacency spectrum of a graph is the multiset of all eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of the graph. A graph is called integral whenever all adjacency spectrum elements are integers. Following Klotz and Sander, we call a group $G$ Cayley integral whenever all undirected Cayley graphs over $G$ are integral. Finite abelian Cayley integral groups are classified by Klotz and Sander as finite abelian groups of exponent dividing $4$ or $6$. Klotz and Sander have proposed the determination of all non-abelian Cayley integral groups. In this paper we complete the classification of finite Cayley integral groups by proving that finite non-abelian Cayley integral groups are the symmetric group $S_{3}$ of degree $3$, $C_{3} \rtimes C_{4}$ and $Q_{8}\times C_{2}^{n}$ for some integer $n\geq 0$, where $Q_8$ is the quaternion group of order $8$.

Multiplicity of 1 in Laplacian Spectra of trees
In this paper, we interpret the multiplicity of 1 in Laplacian spectra of trees and prove that Faria's inequality turns to an equality in the case of normal trees which yields that in any tree without a vertex of degree 2, Faria equality holds and multiplicity of 1 in Laplacian spectrum will be equal to star degree of the the tree. As a result we introduce a combinatorial procedure for computing the multiplicity of 1. In the way to prove this results we will introduce many transformation on graphs which are invariant regarding to the multiplicity of 1. We also introduce an inequality for the multiplicity of 0 in adjacency spectrum of graphs and again introduce a procedure to compute this multiplicity in the case of trees.

Spectral characterizations of almost complete graphs
We investigate when a complete graph $K_n$ with some edges deleted is determined by its adjacency spectrum. It is shown to be the case if the deleted edges form a matching, a complete graph $K_m$ provided $m \leq n-2$, or a complete bipartite graph. If the edges of a path are deleted we prove that the graph is determined by its generalized spectrum (that is, the spectrum together with the spectrum of the complement). When at most five edges are deleted from $K_n$, there is just one pair of nonisomorphic cospectral graphs. We construct nonisomorphic cospectral graphs (with cospectral complements) for all $n$ if six or more edges are deleted from $K_n$, provided $n$ is big enough.

Spectra of the neighbourhood corona of two graphs
Published in Pages 1205--1219, Volume 62, Issue 9, 2014, Linear and Multilinear Algebra • View PublicationBIB
Given simple graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$, the neighbourhood corona of $G_1$ and $G_2$, denoted $G_1\star G_2$, is the graph obtained by taking one copy of $G_1$ and $|V(G_1)|$ copies of $G_2$, and joining the neighbours of the $i$th vertex of $G_1$ to every vertex in the $i$th copy of $G_2$. In this paper we determine the adjacency spectrum of $G_1 \star G_2$ for arbitrary $G_1$ and $G_2$, and the Laplacian spectrum and signless Laplacian spectrum of $G_1\star G_2$ for regular $G_1$ and arbitrary $G_2$, in terms of the corresponding spectrum of $G_1$ and $G_2$. The results on the adjacency and signless Laplacian spectra enable us to construct new pairs of adjacency cospectral and signless Laplacian cospectral graphs. As applications of the results on the Laplacian spectra, we give constructions of new families of expander graphs from known ones by using neighbourhood coronae.
