A New Sufficient Condition for Oriented Graphs Determined by Their Generalized Skew Spectra
Characterizing graphs uniquely determined by their spectra (DS) is a core open problem in spectral graph theory. While this problem has been extensively investigated for simple undirected graphs, it remains relatively underexplored for oriented graphs. For a simple undirected graph $G$ equipped with an orientation $σ$, the corresponding oriented graph $Σ=(G,σ)$ is the digraph obtained by orienting each edge of $G$ according to $σ$. An oriented graph $Σ$ is said to be \emph{determined by its generalized skew spectrum} (DGSS) if every oriented graph sharing the same generalized skew spectrum is isomorphic to $Σ$. This paper develops a new sufficient criterion for recognizing DGSS controllable oriented graphs, which applies to a much broader family of graphs than previously known results. Let $S$ be the skew-adjacency matrix of $Σ$, $W(Σ)=[e,Se,\ldots,S^{n-1}e]$, and $d_n$ the last invariant factor of $W(Σ)$. For each odd prime $p$, we define the polynomial $Φ_p(Σ;x)=\gcd(χ(S;x),χ(S+J;x))$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$, which is invariant under generalized skew cospectrality. By analyzing the square-free part of $Φ_p(Σ;x)$ and the associated $p$-main polynomial, we establish a DGSS sufficient condition under the square-free assumption on $d_n$. The proposed criterion allows higher $p$-nullity and recovers the square-free determinant criterion of Qiu, Wang and Wang~(2019) as a special case. We further provide illustrative examples to verify the wider applicability of our new condition and to highlight the role of the compatibility constraints on the irreducible factors of $Φ_p(Σ;x)$.

The Distance Spectrum Does Not Determine Bipartiteness
Over a decade ago, Koolen, Hayat, and Iqbal posed the problem of whether the distance spectrum determines bipartiteness within the class of connected graphs. In this paper, we resolve this problem in the negative: we explicitly construct an infinite family of counterexamples, where each pair comprises a connected bipartite graph and a connected non-bipartite graph with equal distance spectra.

A Family of Simultaneously Cospectral Trees for Degree-Distance Matrices
Spectral characterization of graphs for various graph matrices constitutes a central topic in spectral graph theory. Let $G$ be a graph with adjacency matrix $A(G)$, diagonal degree matrix $\Deg(G)$, distance matrix $D(G)$, and transmission matrix \(\Trs(G)\), respectively. Recently, Alfaro and Zapata (2024) introduced the degree-distance matrices \(\Ddegp(G)=\Deg(G)+D(G)\) and \(\Ddeg(G)=\Deg(G)-D(G)\), together with the transmission-adjacency matrices \(\Atrsp(G)=\Trs(G)+A(G)\) and \(\Atrs(G)=\Trs(G)-A(G)\). Based on computational evidence for trees on at most \(20\) vertices, they conjectured that all trees are determined by the spectra of \(\Ddegp\) as well as \(\Ddeg\). In this paper, we disprove these conjectures by constructing an infinite family of pairs of non-isomorphic trees. More precisely, for each integer \(r\ge 3\), we construct a pair of trees on \(17r-15\) vertices which are simultaneously cospectral with respect to the following six matrices \[ A,\quad L,\quad Q,\quad D,\quad \Ddegp,\quad \Ddeg . \] The construction is based on an \(r\)-regularized leaf extension and an equitable-partition reduction. We also record a simple sign-switching observation for transmission-adjacency matrices: if \(G\) is bipartite, then \(\Atrs(G)\) and \(\Atrsp(G)\) are similar via a diagonal \(\{\pm1\}\)-matrix and have the same Smith normal form. Consequently, for trees, the spectral and Smith normal form problems for \(\Atrs\) and \(\Atrsp\) are equivalent.

Nearly permanental cospectral graphs
Let $G$ be a simple graph of order $n$ with adjacency matrix $A= (a_{ij})$. The \emph{determinant} and the \emph{permanen}t of the matrix $A$ are defined as \[\mathrm{det}A= \sum_{σ\in S_n}\mathrm{sgn}(σ) \prod_{i=1}^n a_{iσ(i)}\quad\text{and}\quad\mathrm{per}A= \sum_{σ\in S_n} \prod_{i=1}^n a_{iσ(i)},\]respectively. The polynomials $φ(G;x) =\mathrm{det}(xI-A(G))$ and $π(G;x) =\mathrm{per}(xI-A(G))$ are called the \emph{characteristic polynomial} and the \emph{permanental polynomial} of $G$, respectively. Two graphs are said to be \emph{nearly cospectral} with respect to the determinant (resp. permanent) if the difference of their characteristic (resp. permanental) polynomials is a constant. Lv et al. introduced the nearly cospectral graphs problem with respect to the determinant, and provided partial results in the case modulo 4. In this paper, we mainly prove that the corresponding results also hold for the nearly cospectral graphs problem with respect to the permanent. The determinant and permanent are the immanants corresponding to the irreducible characters $(1^n)$ and $(n)$ of the symmetric group $ S_n $, respectively. Here, the \emph{immanant} $d_λ(A)$ of $A$ is defined as \[d_λ(A) = \sum_{σ\in S_n} χ_λ(σ) \prod_{i=1}^n a_{iσ(i)},\] where $χ_λ$ is the irreducible character of $ S_n $ indexed by the partition $ λ$. The immanantal polynomial of $G$ associated with $ χ_λ$ is given by $ φ_λ(G;x)=d_λ(xI-A) $. In this paper, we also establish a similar result for nearly immanantal cospectral graphs in $\mathbb{F}_2[x]$ for all irreducible characters $χ_λ$.

On the Spectral Determination of Complements of \(T\)-shape Trees
A graph \(G\) is said to be \emph{determined by its spectrum} if every graph cospectral with \(G\) is isomorphic to \(G\). A \emph{T-shape tree} is defined as a tree containing exactly one vertex of maximum degree three. For any three positive integers \(\ell_1\),\(\ell_2\) and \(\ell_3\) with \( \ell_1\leq \ell_2\leq \ell_3\), we denote by \(T(\ell_1,\ell_2,\ell_3)\) the unique \(T\)-shape tree such that deleting its degree-three vertex \(v\) yields three disjoint paths \(P_{\ell_1}\), \(P_{\ell_2}\), and \(P_{\ell_3}\), i.e., \(T(\ell_1,\ell_2,\ell_3)-v = P_{\ell_1}\cup P_{\ell_2}\cup P_{\ell_3}\), where \(P_k\) stands for the path graph on \(k\) vertices. In this paper, we establish a complete spectral characterization for the complements of \(T\)-shape trees, settling a long-standing conjecture posed by Wang and Xu (2006). Specifically, we prove that the complement of \(T(\ell_1,\ell_2,\ell_3)\) is spectrally determined if and only if \((\ell_1,\ell_2,\ell_3) \notin \{(\ell,\ell,2\ell-2):\ell\ge2\}\). Moreover, all cospectral mates of the complement of the \(T\)-shape tree \(T(\ell,\ell,2\ell-2)\) are identified for every integer \(\ell\geq 2\).

Constructions of almost controllable graphs determined by their generalized spectra
Identifying and constructing graphs that are determined by their generalized spectrum (DGS) is a significant and challenging problem in spectral graph theory. Recently, a simple criterion for almost controllable graphs to be DGS was proposed by Lin et al. (2026), utilizing the modified walk matrix. In this paper, we investigate the evolution of the modified walk matrix under disjoint union and join operations with a singleton vertex. We establish an exact algebraic identity for the determinant of the modified walk matrix of the resulting graph. Based on this identity and the DGS-criterion of Lin et al., we construct infinite families of almost controllable graphs that are DGS, extending the previous construction of Liu et al. (2019), which was restricted to controllable graphs.

On spanning trees whose degrees are congruent to one modulo $\ell$
An $\ell$-congruent spanning tree of a nontrivial connected graph is a spanning tree in which every vertex has degree congruent to one modulo $\ell$. This notion provides a common generalization of classical spanning trees and odd spanning trees. We show, via a constructive greedy algorithm, that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ satisfying $n\equiv2\pmod{\ell}$ and $δ(G)>\frac{(\ell-1)n}{\ell}$ has an $\ell$-congruent spanning tree. For the special case of odd spanning trees ($\ell=2$), our algorithmic approach simplifies the original proof by Zheng and Wu. We also derive formulas for the numbers of $\ell$-congruent spanning trees in complete graphs and complete bipartite graphs. These formulas specialize to the classical spanning-tree formulas when $\ell=1$ and to the corresponding odd-spanning-tree formulas when $\ell=2$.

Generalized spectral closedness of $\mathcal{F}$-free graph classes
In this paper, we investigate the generalized spectral closedness of graph classes defined by a family $\mathcal{F}$ of forbidden induced subgraphs. To systematically study this property, we introduce a novel combinatorial concept of patterned closed walks (or $β$-closed walks), which naturally interlaces the edges of a graph with those of its complement. By establishing the induced-subgraph expansion of these $β$-closed walk counts, we obtain an algebraic sufficient condition for generalized spectral closedness based on the existence of a walk-realizable $\mathcal{F}$-supporter. Crucially, the search for such a walk-realizable supporter is reduced to a linear programming feasibility problem. As primary applications of this computational framework, we prove that the classes of threshold graphs and chain graphs are generalized spectrally closed.

A Stronger Conditional Running-Time Lower Bound for Global Label Min-Cut
Let $n$ and $p$ denote the numbers of vertices and labels, respectively, in an undirected edge-labeled graph. Previous work showed that, under the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), there is no deterministic algorithm with running time \[ (np)^{o\left(\frac{\log n}{(\log\log n)^2}\right)}. \] In this paper, we give a deterministic reduction that strengthens this conditional running-time lower bound to \[ (np)^{o\left(\frac{\log n}{\log\log n}\right)}. \]

Explicit constructions for Ramanujan-type congruences
For an integer-valued sequence $\{a(n)\}_{n\geq 0}$ and a prime $\ell$, a Ramanujan-type congruence is a relation of the form $a(\ell n-δ_{\ell})\equiv 0\pmod\ell$, where $δ_{\ell}$ is a specific shift. In this paper, we present explicit constructions of modular forms to establish Ramanujan-type congruences for a broad class of generating functions, including eta-quotients, weakly holomorphic modular forms, and mock modular forms. As applications, our explicit approach provides a unified framework to not only recover known congruences but also establish new non-congruence results and explicit congruences for various combinatorial and arithmetic functions.

Orthogonal degree-similarity of edge-deleted strongly regular graphs
Godsil and Sun asked whether, for a strongly regular graph $X$ and any two different edges $e$ and $f$, the edge-deleted graphs $X\setminus e$ and $X\setminus f$ are degree-similar. We give an affirmative answer to the problem of Godsil and Sun. In fact, we prove the stronger statement that if $X$ is a $1$-walk-regular graph, then for any two edges $e$ and $f$ of $X$, the graphs $X\setminus e$ and $X\setminus f$ are orthogonally degree-similar. The proof is based on an edge version of the orthogonal-intertwiner method: the equality of the Gram matrices of the projected endpoint vectors in every eigenspace yields an orthogonal matrix commuting with the adjacency matrix and sending one pair of ordered endpoint vectors to the other.

Smith normal forms for coalescences at cospectral vertices
Let $L_μ(G)=A(G)-μD(G)$ be the generalized $μ$-adjacency matrix of a finite graph $G$. Fan, Xing, Zhang, and Wang constructed pairs of non-degree-similar trees for which the Smith normal forms of the matrices $tI-L_μ(G)$ over $\mathbb{Q}(μ)[t]$ coincide, and conjectured that their construction remains valid when the attached rooted path is replaced by an arbitrary rooted tree. We prove this conjecture as a consequence of a more general coalescence theorem: if a finite graph $H$ has two vertices $u$ and $v$ that are cospectral for $L_μ(H)$, then, for every finite rooted graph $R$ with root $r$, the matrices \[ tI-L_μ(R(r)\odot H(u)) \quad\text{and}\quad tI-L_μ(R(r)\odot H(v)) \] have the same Smith normal form over $\mathbb{Q}(μ)[t]$, where $\odot$ denotes coalescence of rooted graphs. The proof uses an orthogonal intertwiner over a real closed extension field.

Factorization of invariant polynomials and generalized spectral characterizations of graphs
The problem of characterizing graphs by their generalized spectra has received significant attention in recent years. This paper provides a complete proof of a conjecture proposed by Wang, Wang, and Zhu (European J. Combin., 2023), which asserts that the square-root polynomial of the invariant polynomial $Φ_p(G;x) \in \mathbb{F}_p[x]$ can replace its square-free part to yield a more effective criterion for a graph to be determined by its generalized spectrum (DGS). A key ingredient of our proof is a novel algebraic factorization: we show that the polynomial $Φ_p(G;x)$ is the product of the characteristic polynomials of the adjacency operator restricted to the left null space of the walk matrix and its radical, respectively. Based on this refined DGS-criterion, a broad family of DGS-graphs is constructed via rooted products, significantly generalizing the recent result of Wang, Shen, and Mao (Discrete Appl. Math., 2026).

On the m-point convexity
Let $S\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ $(d\geq 2)$. A set $S$ is said to be $m$-point convex, if for every $m$ distinct points in $S$, at least one of the line-segments determined by them lies in $S$. We also say that $S$ has property $P_m$. Let ${x,y,z}\in \mathbb{R}^{d}$. If $\mathrm{conv}\{x,y,z\}$ is a right triangle, then $\{x,y,z\}$ is called a {\it right triple}. A set $S$ is said to have the right-$3$-point property,if, for every right triple of $S$, at least one of the line-segments determined by them belongs to $S$. In particular, it has the double right-$3$-point property, if, for every right triple in $S$, at least two of the line-segments determined by them belong to $S$. In this paper, we further investigate $m$-point convex sets and establish the relationship between the sets with the double right-$3$-point property and convex sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$.

On the levels of rational regular orthogonal matrices for generalized cospectral graphs
For an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with adjacency matrix $A$, the walk matrix $W(G)$ of $G$ is the matrix $[e,Ae,\ldots,A^{n-1}e]$, where $e$ is the all-ones vector. Suppose that $W(G)$ is nonsingular and $p$ is an odd prime such that $W(G)$ has rank $n-1$ over the finite field $\mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z}$. Let $H$ be a graph that is generalized cospectral with $G$, and $Q$ be the corresponding rational regular orthogonal matrix satisfying $Q^\mathsf{T} A(G) Q=A(H)$. We prove that \begin{equation*} v_p(\ell(Q))\le \frac{1}{2}v_p (\det W(G)) \end{equation*} where $\ell(Q)$ is the minimum positive integer $k$ such that $kQ$ is an integral matrix, and $v_p(m)$ is the maximum nonnegative integer $s$ such that $p^s$ divides $m$. This significantly improves upon a recent result of Qiu et al. [Discrete Math. 346 (2023) 113177] stating that $v_p(\ell(Q))\le v_p (\det W(G))-1.$

On enumeration of spanning trees of complete multipartite graphs containing a fixed spanning forest
We present a determinantal formula for the number of spanning trees of a complete multipartite graph containing a given spanning forest $F$. Our approach relies on the Generalized Matrix Determinant Lemma and Jacobi's formula for the derivative of a determinant. This work generalizes known results for complete bipartite graphs and offers an algebraic perspective on the problem.

A general formula for walk determinants of rooted products with applications to DGS-graph constructions
For an $n$-vertex graph $G$, and a rooted graph $H^{(v)}$ with $v$ as the root, the rooted product graph $G\circ H^{(v)}$ is obtained from $G$ and $n$ copies of $H$ by identifying the root of the $i$th copy of $H$ with the $i$th vertex of $G$ for each $i$. As a refinement of the controllability criterion of $G\circ H^{(v)}$ obtained recently by Shan and Liu (2025), we obtain an explicit formula for the determinant of the walk matrix of $G\circ H^{(v)}$. Furthermore, for an important family of graphs $\mathcal{F}$ that are determined by their generalized spectrum (DGS), we introduce the concept of $\mathcal{F}$-preservers and provide a sufficient condition for a rooted graph to be an $\mathcal{F}$-preserver. A list of $\mathcal{F}$-preservers of small order is provided, which leads to many new infinite families of DGS-graphs using rooted products.

On a generalization of the Johnson-Newman theorem to multiple rank-one perturbations
Wang and Zhao (Adv. Appl. Math. 173 (2026) 102994) generalized the classic Johnson-Newman theorem on simultaneous similarity of symmetric matrices from a single rank-one perturbation to multiple rank-one perturbations. However, their result applies only to specific rank-one perturbations, and the given condition is quite involved as it relies on multivariate polynomials. We provide a simple proof of their result, leading to an improved version with a simplified condition that holds for arbitrary rank-one perturbations.

Recurrence and congruences for the smallest part function
Let $\operatorname{spt}(n)$ be the number of smallest parts in the partitions of $n$. In this paper, we give some generalized Euler-like recursive formulas for the $\operatorname{spt}$ function in terms of Hecke trace of values of special twisted quadratic Dirichlet series. As a corollary, we give a closed form expressions of the power series $\sum_{n\geq 0}\operatorname{spt}(\ell n-δ_{\ell})q^n\pmod{\ell}$, $δ_{\ell}:=(\ell^2-1)/24$, by Hecke traces for weight $\ell+1 $ cusp forms on $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$. We further establish an incongruence result for the $\operatorname{spt}$ function.
