Bricks that every removable edge is solitary
A brick is a 3-connected graph $G$ such that $G-u-v$ has a perfect matching for any two distinct vertices $u,v\in V(G)$. An edge $e$ in a matching covered graph $G$ is removable if $G-e$ is matching covered. We say that a removable edge $e$ in a brick $G$ is $b$-invariant if $b(G-e)=b(G)=1$, where $b(H)$ denotes the number of bricks in the tight cut decomposition of a matching covered graph $H$. An edge of a graph is solitary if it lies in precisely one perfect matching.
Lucchesi and Murty proposed the problem of characterizing bricks, distinct from $K_4$, $\overline{C_6}$ and the Petersen graph, in which every $b$-invariant edge is solitary. Note that every $b$-invariant edge is removable. In this paper, we strengthen the condition by requiring that every removable edge is solitary. We show that every nonsolid brick satisfying this strengthened condition can be obtained by repeatedly splicing odd wheels (up to multiple edges). Moreover, properties of such bricks imply that "repeatedly splicing odd wheels" cannot be replaced by "repeatedly splicing copies of $K_4$".
The bipartite analogue of a classical spanning tree enumeration formula, Boolean functions, and their applications to counting odd spanning trees
Recently, Zheng and Wu defined the concept of odd spanning tree of a graph, meaning a spanning tree in which every vertex has odd degree. Similar to Cayley's formula, Feng, Chen and Wu counted the number of odd spanning trees in complete graphs via Prüfer code and the exponential generating function. In this note, we give a simple proof via a classical spanning tree enumeration formula and the Boolean function. We also generalize it to complete bipartite graphs.
On enumeration of spanning trees of complete multipartite graphs containing a fixed spanning forest
We present a determinantal formula for the number of spanning trees of a complete multipartite graph containing a given spanning forest $F$. Our approach relies on the Generalized Matrix Determinant Lemma and Jacobi's formula for the derivative of a determinant. This work generalizes known results for complete bipartite graphs and offers an algebraic perspective on the problem.

Visibility representation of digraphs was introduced by Axenovich, Beveridge, Hutch\-inson, and West (\emph{SIAM J. Discrete Math.} {\bf 27}(3) (2013) 1429--1449) as a natural generalization of $t$-bar visibility representation of undirected graphs. A {\it $t$-bar visibility representation} of a digraph $G$ assigns each vertex at most $t$ horizontal bars in the plane so that there is an arc $xy$ in the digraph if and only if some bar for $x$ "sees" some bar for $y$ above it along an unblocked vertical strip with positive width. The {\it visibility number} $b(G)$ is the least $t$ such that $G$ has a $t$-bar visibility representation. In this paper, we solve several problems about $b(G)$ posed by Axenovich et al.\ and prove that determining whether the bar visibility number of a digraph is $2$ is NP-complete.

It is well-known that the number of spanning trees, denoted by $τ(G)$, in a connected multi-graph $G$ can be calculated by the Matrix-Tree theorem and Tutte's deletion-contraction theorem. In this short note, we find an alternate method to compute $τ(G)$ by degrees of vertices.

In this article, we extend Moon's classic formula for counting spanning trees in complete graphs containing a fixed spanning forest to complete bipartite graphs. Let $(X,Y)$ be the bipartition of the complete bipartite graph $K_{m,n}$ with $|X|=m$ and $|Y|=n$. We prove that for any given spanning forest $F$ of $K_{m,n}$ with components $T_1,T_2,\ldots,T_k$, the number of spanning trees in $K_{m,n}$ which contain all edges in $F$ is equal to $$ \frac 1{mn}\left(\prod_{i=1}^k (m_in+n_im)\right) \left (1-\sum_{i=1}^{k}\frac{m_in_i}{m_in+n_im}\right ), $$ where $m_i=|V(T_i)\cap X|$ and $n_i=|V(T_i)\cap Y|$ for $i=1,2,\ldots,k$.

A signed edge domination function (or SEDF) of a simple graph $G=(V,E)$ is a function $f: E\rightarrow \{1,-1\}$ such that $\sum_{e'\in N[e]}f(e')\ge 1$ holds for each edge $e\in E$, where $N[e]$ is the set of edges in $G$ that share at least one endpoint with $e$. Let $γ_s'(G)$ denote the minimum value of $f(G)$ among all SEDFs $f$, where $f(G)=\sum_{e\in E}f(e)$.In 2005, Xu conjectured that $γ_s'(G)\le n-1$, where $n$ is the order of $G$. This conjecture has been proved for the two cases $v_{odd}(G)=0$ and $v_{even}(G)=0$, where $v_{odd}(G)$ (resp. $v_{even}(G)$) is the number of odd (resp. even) vertices in $G$. This article proves Xu's conjecture for $v_{even}(G)\in \{1, 2\}$. We also show that for any simple graph $G$ of order $n$, $γ_s'(G)\le n+v_{odd}(G)/2$ and $γ_s'(G)\le n-2+v_{even}(G)$ when $v_{even}(G)>0$, and thus $γ_s'(G)\le (4n-2)/3$. Our result improves the best current upper bound of $γ_s'(G)\le \lceil 3n/2\rceil$.

Using the theory of electrical network, we first obtain a simple formula for the number of spanning trees of a complete bipartite graph containing a certain matching or a certain tree. Then we apply the effective resistance (i.e., resistance distance in graphs) to find a formula for the number of spanning trees in the nearly complete bipartite graph $G(m,n,p)=K_{m,n}-pK_2$ $(p\leq \min\{m,n\})$, which extends a recent result by Ye and Yan who obtained the effective resistances and the number of spanning trees in $G(n,n,p)$. As a corollary, we obtain the Kirchhoff index of $G(m,n,p)$ which extends a previous result by Shi and Chen.

The chromatic polynomial $P(G,x)$ of a graph $G$ of order $n$ can be expressed as $\sum\limits_{i=1}^n(-1)^{n-i}a_{i}x^i$, where $a_i$ is interpreted as the number of broken-cycle free spanning subgraphs of $G$ with exactly $i$ components. The parameter $ε(G)=\sum\limits_{i=1}^n (n-i)a_i/\sum\limits_{i=1}^n a_i$ is the mean size of a broken-cycle-free spanning subgraph of $G$. In this article, we confirm and strengthen a conjecture proposed by Lundow and Markström in 2006 that $ε(T_n)< ε(G)<ε(K_n)$ holds for any connected graph $G$ of order $n$ which is neither the complete graph $K_n$ nor a tree $T_n$ of order $n$. The most crucial step of our proof is to obtain the interpretation of all $a_i$'s by the number of acyclic orientations of $G$.

In this paper, we first present spectral conditions for the existence of $C_{n-1}$ in graphs (2-connected graphs) of order $n$, which are motivated by a conjecture of Erdős. Then we prove spectral conditions for the existence of Hamilton cycles in balanced bipartite graphs. This result presents a spectral analog of Moon-Moser's theorem on Hamilton cycles in balanced bipartite graphs, and extends a previous theorem due to Li and the second author for $n$ sufficiently large. We conclude this paper with two problems on tight spectral conditions for the existence of long cycles of given lengths.
When will the crossing number of an alternating link decrease by two via a crossing change?
Let $D$ be a reduced alternating diagram of a non-split link $L$ and $\tilde{L}$ be the link whose diagram is obtained from $D$ by a crossing change. If $\tilde{L}$ is alternating, then $c(\tilde{L})\leq c(L)-2$. In this paper we explore when $c(\tilde{L})=c(L)-2$ holds and obtain a simple sufficient and necessary condition in terms of plane graphs corresponding to $L$. This result is obtained via analyzing the behavior of the Tutte polynomial of the signed plane graph corresponding to $\tilde{L}$.

Let $G$ be a graph with minimum degree $δ$. The spectral radius of $G$, denoted by $ρ(G)$, is the largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of $G$. In this note we mainly prove the following two results. (1) Let $G$ be a graph on $n\geq 4$ vertices with $δ\geq 1$. If $ρ(G)> n-3$, then $G$ contains a Hamilton path unless $G\in\{K_1\vee (K_{n-3}+2K_1),K_2\vee 4K_1,K_1\vee (K_{1,3}+K_1)\}$. (2) Let $G$ be a graph on $n\geq 14$ vertices with $δ\geq 2$. If $ρ(G)\geq ρ(K_2\vee (K_{n-4}+2K_1))$, then $G$ contains a Hamilton cycle unless $G= K_2\vee (K_{n-4}+2K_1)$. As corollaries of our first result, two previous theorems due to Fiedler and Nikiforov and Lu et al. are obtained, respectively. Our second result refines another previous theorem of Fiedler and Nikiforov.

In this paper we obtain a new sufficient condition for the existence of directed cycles of length 4 in oriented bipartite graphs. As a corollary, a conjecture of H. Li is confirmed. As an application, a sufficient condition for the existence of rainbow cycles of length 4 in bipartite edge-colored graphs is obtained.
