Counting graph orientations with no directed triangles
Alon and Yuster proved that the number of orientations of any $n$-vertex graph in which every $K_3$ is transitively oriented is at most $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ for $n \geq 10^4$ and conjectured that the precise lower bound on $n$ should be $n \geq 8$. We confirm their conjecture and, additionally, characterize the extremal families by showing that the balanced complete bipartite graph with $n$ vertices is the only $n$-vertex graph for which there are exactly $2^{\lfloor n^2/4\rfloor}$ such orientations.
Proportional Choosability of Complete Bipartite Graphs

Proportional choosability is a list analogue of equitable coloring that was introduced in 2019. The smallest $k$ for which a graph $G$ is proportionally $k$-choosable is the proportional choice number of $G$, and it is denoted $χ_{pc}(G)$. In the first ever paper on proportional choosability, it was shown that when $2 \leq n \leq m$, $ \max\{ n + 1, 1 + \lceil m / 2 \rceil\} \leq χ_{pc}(K_{n,m}) \leq n + m - 1$. In this note we improve on this result by showing that $ \max\{ n + 1, \lceil n / 2 \rceil + \lceil m / 2 \rceil\} \leq χ_{pc}(K_{n,m}) \leq n + m -1- \lfloor m/3 \rfloor$. In the process, we prove some new lower bounds on the proportional choice number of complete multipartite graphs. We also present several interesting open questions.

Let us consider a truncated matroid $M_Γ^{r}$ of rank $r$ of a graphic matroid of a graph $Γ$. The basis for $M_Γ^{r}$ is the set of the forests with $r$ edges in $Γ$. We consider this basis generating function and compute its Hessian. In this paper, we show that the Hessian of the basis generating function of the truncated matroid of the graphic matroid of the complete or complete bipartite graph does not vanish by calculating the eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix. Moreover, we show that the Hessian matrix of the basis generating function of the truncated matroid of the graphic matroid of the complete or complete bipartite graph has exactly one positive eigenvalue. As an application, we show the strong Lefschetz property for the Artinian Gorenstein algebra associated to the truncated matroid.

Gaussian filters have applications in a variety of areas in computer science, from computer vision to speech recognition. The collapsing sum is a matrix operator that was recently introduced to study Gaussian filters combinatorially. In this paper, we view the collapsing sum from a discrete tomographical perspective and examine the recoverability of its preimages as a matrix completion problem. Using bipartite graphs, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a partial matrix to be extended to a preimage of a given matrix.

A well-known conjecture of Richard Stanley posits that the $h$-vector of the independence complex of a matroid is a pure ${\mathcal O}$-sequence. The conjecture has been established for various classes but is open for graphic matroids. A biconed graph is a graph with two specified `coning vertices', such that every vertex of the graph is connected to at least one coning vertex. The class of biconed graphs includes coned graphs, Ferrers graphs, and complete multipartite graphs. We study the $h$-vectors of graphic matroids arising from biconed graphs, providing a combinatorial interpretation of their entries in terms of `$2$-weighted forests' of the underlying graph. This generalizes constructions of Kook and Lee who studied the Möbius coinvariant (the last nonzero entry of the $h$-vector) of graphic matroids of complete bipartite graphs. We show that allowing for partially $2$-weighted forests gives rise to a pure multicomplex whose face count recovers the $h$-vector, establishing Stanley's conjecture for this class of matroids. We also discuss how our constructions relate to a combinatorial strengthening of Stanley's Conjecture (due to Klee and Samper) for this class of matroids.

Let $k$ be a positive integer and let $G$ be a graph with vertex set $V(G)$. A subset $D \subseteq V(G)$ is a $k$-dominating set if every vertex outside $D$ is adjacent to at least $k$ vertices in $D$. The $k$-domination number $γ_k(G)$ is the minimum cardinality of a $k$-dominating set in $G$. For any graph $G$, we know that $γ_k(G) \geq γ(G)+k-2$ where $ Δ(G)\geq k\geq 2$ and this bound is sharp for every $k\geq 2$. In this paper, we characterize bipartite graphs satisfying the equality for $k\geq 3$ and present a necessary and sufficient condition for a bipartite graph to satisfy the equality hereditarily when $k=3$. We also prove that the problem of deciding whether a graph satisfies the given equality is NP-hard in general.

Let $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$ be two $t$-uniform families of subsets over $[k] = \{1,2,...,k\}$, where $|\mathcal{F}| = |\mathcal{G}|$, and let $C$ be the adjacency matrix of the bipartite graph whose vertices are the subsets in $\mathcal{F}$ and $\mathcal{G}$, and there is an edge between $A\in \mathcal{F}$ and $B \in \mathcal{G}$ if and only if $A \cap B \neq \emptyset$. The pair $(\mathcal{F},\mathcal{G})$ is $q$-almost cross intersecting if every row and column of $C$ has exactly $q$ zeros.
We consider $q$-almost cross intersecting pairs that have a circulant intersection matrix $C_{p,q}$, determined by a column vector with $p > 0$ ones followed by $q > 0$ zeros. This family of matrices includes the identity matrix in one extreme, and the adjacency matrix of the bipartite crown graph in the other extreme.
We give constructions of pairs $(\mathcal{F},\mathcal{G})$ whose intersection matrix is $C_{p,q}$, for a wide range of values of the parameters $p$ and $q$, and in some cases also prove matching upper bounds. Specifically, we prove results for the following values of the parameters: (1) $1 \leq p \leq 2t-1$ and $1 \leq q \leq k-2t+1$. (2) $2t \leq p \leq t^2$ and any $q> 0$, where $k \geq p+q$. (3) $p$ that is exponential in $t$, for large enough $k$.
Using the first result we show that if $k \geq 4t-3$ then $C_{2t-1,k-2t+1}$ is a maximal isolation submatrix of size $k\times k$ in the $0,1$-matrix $A_{k,t}$, whose rows and columns are labeled by all subsets of size $t$ of $[k]$, and there is a one in the entry on row $x$ and column $y$ if and only if subsets $x,y$ intersect.

We consider the spectral gap of a uniformly chosen random $(d_1,d_2)$-biregular bipartite graph $G$ with $|V_1|=n, |V_2|=m$, where $d_1,d_2$ could possibly grow with $n$ and $m$. Let $A$ be the adjacency matrix of $G$. Under the assumption that $d_1\geq d_2$ and $d_2=O(n^{2/3}),$ we show that $λ_2(A)=O(\sqrt{d_1})$ with high probability. As a corollary, combining the results from Tikhomirov and Youssef (2019), we showed that the second singular value of a uniform random $d$-regular digraph is $O(\sqrt{d})$ for $1\leq d\leq n/2$ with high probability. Assuming $d_2$ is fixed and $d_1=O(n^2)$, we further prove that for a random $(d_1,d_2)$-biregular bipartite graph, $|λ_i^2(A)-d_1|=O(\sqrt{d_1})$ for all $2\leq i\leq n+m-1$ with high probability. The proofs of the two results are based on the size biased coupling method introduced in Cook, Goldstein, and Johnson (2018) for random $d$-regular graphs and several new switching operations we defined for random bipartite biregular graphs.
On the Graceful Game
A graceful labeling of a graph $G$ with $m$ edges consists of labeling the vertices of $G$ with distinct integers from $0$ to $m$ such that, when each edge is assigned as induced label the absolute difference of the labels of its endpoints, all induced edge labels are distinct. Rosa established two well known conjectures: all trees are graceful (1966) and all triangular cacti are graceful (1988). In order to contribute to both conjectures we study graceful labelings in the context of graph games. The Graceful game was introduced by Tuza in 2017 as a two-players game on a connected graph in which the players Alice and Bob take turns labeling the vertices with distinct integers from 0 to $m$. Alice's goal is to gracefully label the graph as Bob's goal is to prevent it from happening. In this work, we study winning strategies for Alice and Bob in complete graphs, paths, cycles, complete bipartite graphs, caterpillars, prisms, wheels, helms, webs, gear graphs, hypercubes and some powers of paths.

In this paper, we prove a collection of results on graphical indices. We determine the extremal graphs attaining the maximal generalized Wiener index (e.g. the hyper-Wiener index) among all graphs with given matching number or independence number. This generalizes some work of Dankelmann, as well as some work of Chung. We also show alternative proofs for two recents results on maximizing the Wiener index and external Wiener index by deriving it from earlier results. We end with proving two conjectures. We prove that the maximum for the difference of the Wiener index and the eccentricity is attained by the path if the order $n$ is at least $9$ and that the maximum weighted Szeged index of graphs of given order is attained by the balanced complete bipartite graphs.
Planarity and genus of sparse random bipartite graphs

The genus of the binomial random graph $G(n,p)$ is well understood for a wide range of $p=p(n)$. Recently, the study of the genus of the random bipartite graph $G(n_1,n_2,p)$, with partition classes of size $n_1$ and $n_2$, was initiated by Mohar and Ying, who showed that when $n_1$ and $n_2$ are comparable in size and $p=p(n_1,n_2)$ is significantly larger than $(n_1n_2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ the genus of the random bipartite graph has a similar behaviour to that of the binomial random graph.
In this paper we show that there is a threshold for planarity of the random bipartite graph at $p=(n_1n_2)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ and investigate the genus close to this threshold, extending the results of Mohar and Ying. It turns out that there is qualitatively different behaviour in the case where $n_1$ and $n_2$ are comparable, when whp the genus is linear in the number of edges, than in the case where $n_1$ is asymptotically smaller than $n_2$, when whp the genus behaves like the genus of a sparse random graph $G(n_1,q)$ for an appropriately chosen $q=q(p,n_1,n_2)$.

We give lower bounds on $\mathrm{rex}(n, F)$, that are best possible up to a constant factor, when $F$ is one of $C_4$, $K_{2,t}$, $K_{3,3}$ or $K_{s,t}$ when $t>s!$.
On new record graphs close to bipartite Moore graphs

The modelling of interconnection networks by graphs motivated the study of several extremal problems that involve well known parameters of a graph (degree, diameter, girth and order) and ask for the optimal value of one of them while holding the other two fixed. Here we focus in {\em bipartite Moore graphs\/}, that is, bipartite graphs attaining the optimum order, fixed either the degree/diameter or degree/girth. The fact that there are very few bipartite Moore graphs suggests the relaxation of some of the constraints implied by the bipartite Moore bound. First we deal with {\em local bipartite Moore graphs}. We find in some cases those local bipartite Moore graphs with local girths as close as possible to the local girths given by a bipartite Moore graph. Second, we construct a family of $(q+2)$-bipartite graphs of order $2(q^2+q+5)$ and diameter $3$, for $q$ a power of prime. These graphs attain the record value for $q=9$ and improve the values for $q=11$ and $q=13$.

Let $Δ$ be a simplicial complex on $[n]$. The $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-complex of $Δ$ is the simplicial complex $δ_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ)$ on $[n]$ for which the facet ideal of $Δ$ is equal to the Stanley--Reisner ideal of $δ_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ)$. Furthermore, for each $k = 2,3,\ldots$\,, we introduce {\em $k^{th}$ $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-complex} $δ^{(k)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ)$ which is inductively defined by $δ^{(k)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ) = δ_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(δ^{(k-1)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ))$ with setting $δ^{(1)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ) = δ_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ)$. One can set $δ^{(0)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ) = Δ$. The $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-number of $Δ$ is the smallest integer $k > 0$ for which $δ^{(k)}_{\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}}(Δ) \simeq Δ$. In the present paper we are especially interested in the $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-number of a finite graph, which can be regraded as a simplicial complex of dimension one. It is shown that the $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-number of the finite graph $K_n\coprod K_m$ on $[n + m]$, which is the disjoint union of the complete graphs $K_n$ on $[n]$ and $K_m$ on $[m]$, where $n \geq 2$ and $m \geq 2$ with $(n,m) \neq (2,2)$, is equal to $n + m + 2$. Its corollary says that the $\mathcal{N}\mathcal{F}$-number of the complete bipartite graph $K_{n,m}$ on $[n+m]$ is also equal to $n + m + 2$.
Antimagic orientation of graphs with minimum degree at least 33

An antimagic labeling of a directed graph $D$ with $n$ vertices and $m$ arcs is a bijection from the set of arcs of $D$ to the integers $\{1, \cdots, m\}$ such that all $n$ oriented vertex sums are pairwise distinct, where an oriented vertex sum is the sum of labels of all arcs entering that vertex minus the sum of labels of all arcs leaving it. A graph $G$ has an antimagic orientation if it has an orientation which admits an antimagic labeling. Hefetz, M{ü}tze, and Schwartz conjectured that every connected graph admits an antimagic orientation. In this paper, we show that every bipartite graph without both isolated and degree 2 vertices admits an antimagic orientation and every graph $G$ with $δ(G)\ge 33$ admits an antimagic orientation. Our proof relies on a newly developed structural property of bipartite graphs, which might be of independent interest.
The Generic Bipartite Graphs of Diameter 3: Their Ages and their Almost Sure Theories
In an effort to find more examples of amalgamation classes whose almost sure theories are the same as their generic theories as well as amalgamation classes whose almost sure theories are different from their generic theories, we address our attention to two new cases: the bipartite diameter 3 metrically homogeneous graphs of generic type. These graphs were identified by Cherlin, and are determined by certain forbidden configurations. In this paper, we explicitly identify and enumerate their ages, for which we then establish both unlabeled and labeled 0-1 laws. Finally, we show that for one of these bipartite graphs the almost sure theory matches its generic theory, and for the other bipartite graph it does not.
The effect of adding randomly weighted edges

We consider the following question. We have a dense regular graph $G$ with degree $αn$, where $α>0$ is a constant. We add $m=o(n^2)$ random edges. The edges of the augmented graph $G(m)$ are given independent edge weights $X(e)$, $e\in E(G(m))$. We estimate the minimum weight of some specified combinatorial structures. We show that in certain cases, we can obtain the same estimate as is known for the complete graph, but scaled by a factor $α^{-1}$. We consider spanning trees, shortest paths, perfect matchings in (pseudo-random) bipartite graphs.
The K-theory of the C*-algebras of 2-rank graphs associated to complete bipartite graphs

Using a result of Vdovina, we may associate to each complete connected bipartite graph $κ$ a $2$-dimensional square complex, which we call a tile complex, whose link at each vertex is $κ$. We regard the tile complex in two different ways, each having a different structure as a $2$-rank graph. To each $2$-rank graph is associated a universal C*-algebra, for which we compute the K-theory, thus providing a new infinite collection of $2$-rank graph algebras with explicit K-groups. We determine the homology of the tile complexes, and give generalisations of the procedures to complexes and systems consisting of polygons with a higher number of sides.

Given graphs $T$ and $H$, the generalized Turán number ex$(n,T,H)$ is the maximum number of copies of $T$ in an $n$-vertex graph with no copies of $H$. Alon and Shikhelman, using a result of Erd\H os, determined the asymptotics of ex$(n,K_3,H)$ when the chromatic number of $H$ is greater than 3 and proved several results when $H$ is bipartite. We consider this problem when $H$ has chromatic number 3. Even this special case for the following relatively simple 3-chromatic graphs appears to be challenging.
The suspension $\widehat H$ of a graph $H$ is the graph obtained from $H$ by adding a new vertex adjacent to all vertices of $H$. We give new upper and lower bounds on ex$(n,K_3,\widehat{H})$ when $H$ is a path, even cycle, or complete bipartite graph. One of the main tools we use is the triangle removal lemma, but it is unclear if much stronger statements can be proved without using the removal lemma.
Coloring Problems on Bipartite Graphs of Small Diameter

We investigate a number of coloring problems restricted to bipartite graphs with bounded diameter. First, we investigate the $k$-List Coloring, List $k$-Coloring, and $k$-Precoloring Extension problems on bipartite graphs with diameter at most $d$, proving NP-completeness in most cases, and leaving open only the List $3$-Coloring and $3$-Precoloring Extension problems when $d=3$.
Some of these results are obtained through a proof that the Surjective $C_6$-Homomorphism problem is NP-complete on bipartite graphs with diameter at most four. Although the latter result has been already proved [Vikas, 2017], we present ours as an alternative simpler one. As a byproduct, we also get that $3$-Biclique Partition is NP-complete. An attempt to prove this result was presented in [Fleischner, Mujuni, Paulusma, and Szeider, 2009], but there was a flaw in their proof, which we identify and discuss here.
Finally, we prove that the $3$-Fall Coloring problem is NP-complete on bipartite graphs with diameter at most four, and prove that NP-completeness for diameter three would also imply NP-completeness of $3$-Precoloring Extension on diameter three, thus closing the previously mentioned open cases. This would also answer a question posed in [Kratochvíl, Tuza, and Voigt, 2002].
