Local Antimagic Coloring of Some Graphs
Given a graph $G =(V,E)$, a bijection $f: E \rightarrow \{1, 2, \dots,|E|\}$ is called a local antimagic labeling of $G$ if the vertex weight $w(u) = \sum_{uv \in E} f(uv)$ is distinct for all adjacent vertices. The vertex weights under the local antimagic labeling of $G$ induce a proper vertex coloring of a graph $G$. The \textit{local antimagic chromatic number} of $G$ denoted by $χ_{la}(G)$ is the minimum number of weights taken over all such local antimagic labelings of $G$. In this paper, we investigate the local antimagic chromatic numbers of the union of some families of graphs, corona product of graphs, and necklace graph and we construct infinitely many graphs satisfying $χ_{la}(G) = χ(G)$.

Some results and problems on tournament structure
This paper is a survey of results and problems related to the following question: is it true that if G is a tournament with sufficiently large chromatic number, then G has two vertex-disjoint subtournaments A,B, both with large chromatic number, such that all edges between them are directed from A to B? We describe what we know about this question, and report some progress on several other related questions, on tournament colouring and domination.
New bounds for odd colourings of graphs
Given a graph $G$, a vertex-colouring $σ$ of $G$, and a subset $X\subseteq V(G)$, a colour $x \in σ(X)$ is said to be \emph{odd} for $X$ in $σ$ if it has an odd number of occurrences in $X$. We say that $σ$ is an \emph{odd colouring} of $G$ if it is proper and every (open) neighbourhood has an odd colour in $σ$. The odd chromatic number of a graph $G$, denoted by $χ_o(G)$, is the minimum $k\in\mathbb{N}$ such that an odd colouring $σ\colon V(G)\to [k]$ exists. In a recent paper, Caro, Petru\v sevski and \v Skrekovski conjectured that every connected graph of maximum degree $Δ\ge 3$ has odd-chromatic number at most $Δ+1$. We prove that this conjecture holds asymptotically: for every connected graph $G$ with maximum degree $Δ$, $χ_o(G)\leΔ+O(\lnΔ)$ as $Δ\to \infty$. We also prove that $χ_o(G)\le\lfloor3Δ/2\rfloor+2$ for every $Δ$. If moreover the minimum degree $δ$ of $G$ is sufficiently large, we have $χ_o(G) \le χ(G) + O(Δ\ln Δ/δ)$ and $χ_o(G) = O(χ(G)\ln Δ)$. Finally, given an integer $h\ge 1$, we study the generalisation of these results to $h$-odd colourings, where every vertex $v$ must have at least $\min \{°(v),h\}$ odd colours in its neighbourhood. Many of our results are tight up to some multiplicative constant.
Injective coloring of product graphs
Published in Bulletin of the Malaysian Mathematical Sciences Society, 2024 • View PublicationBIB
The problem of injective coloring in graphs can be revisited through two different approaches: coloring the two-step graphs and vertex partitioning of graphs into open packing sets, each of which is equivalent to the injective coloring problem itself. Taking these facts into account, we observe that the injective coloring lies between graph coloring and domination theory. We make use of these three points of view in this paper so as to investigate the injective coloring of some well-known graph products. We bound the injective chromatic number of direct and lexicographic product graphs from below and above. In particular, we completely determine this parameter for the direct product of two cycles. We also give a closed formula for the corona product of two graphs.
Turán problems for oriented graphs
A classical Turán problem asks for the maximum possible number of edges in a graph of a given order that does not contain a particular graph $H$ as a subgraph. It is well-known that the chromatic number of $H$ is the graph parameter which describes the asymptotic behavior of this maximum. Here, we consider an analogous problem for oriented graphs, where compressibility plays the role of the chromatic number. Since any oriented graph having a directed cycle is not contained in any transitive tournament, it makes sense to consider only acyclic oriented graphs as forbidden subgraphs. We provide basic properties of the compressibility, show that the compressibility of acyclic oriented graphs with out-degree at most 2 is polynomial with respect to the maximum length of a directed path, and that the same holds for a larger out-degree bound if the Erdős-Hajnal conjecture is true. Additionally, generalizing previous results on powers of paths and arbitrary orientations of cycles, we determine the compressibility of acyclic oriented graphs with a restricted structure.

On ordered Ramsey numbers of matchings versus triangles
For graphs $G^<$ and $H^<$ with linearly ordered vertex sets, the \ordered Ramsey number $r_<(G^<,H^<)$ is the smallest positive integer $N$ such that any red-blue coloring of the edges of the complete ordered graph $K^<_N$ on $N$ vertices contains either a blue copy of $G^<$ or a red copy of $H^<$. Motivated by a problem of Conlon, Fox, Lee, and Sudakov (2017), we study the numbers $r_<(M^<,K^<_3)$ where $M^<$ is an ordered matching on $n$ vertices. We prove that almost all $n$-vertex ordered matchings $M^<$ with interval chromatic number 2 satisfy $r_<(M^<,K^<_3) \in Ω((n/\log n)^{5/4})$ and $r_<(M^<,K^<_3) \in O(n^{7/4})$, improving a recent result by Rohatgi (2019). We also show that there are $n$-vertex ordered matchings $M^<$ with interval chromatic number at least 3 satisfying $r_<(M^<,K^<_3) \in Ω((n/\log n)^{4/3})$, which asymptotically matches the best known lower bound on these off-diagonal ordered Ramsey numbers for general $n$-vertex ordered matchings.

On Color Critical Graphs of Star Coloring
A \emph{star coloring} of a graph $G$ is a proper vertex-coloring such that no path on four vertices is $2$-colored. The minimum number of colors required to obtain a star coloring of a graph $G$ is called star chromatic number and it is denoted by $χ_s(G)$. A graph $G$ is called $k$-critical if $χ_s(G)=k$ and $χ_s(G -e) < χ_s(G)$ for every edge $e \in E(G)$. In this paper, we give a characterization of 3-critical, $(n-1)$-critical and $(n-2)$-critical graphs with respect to star coloring, where $n$ denotes the number of vertices of $G$. We also give upper and lower bounds on the minimum number of edges in $(n-1)$-critical and $(n-2)$-critical graphs.

Structure and coloring of a family of ($P_7, C_5$)-free graphs
Let $P_t$ and $C_t$ be a path and a cycle on $t$ vertices, respectively. In 2021, Choudum {\em et al.} [Disc. Math. 344 (2021) 112244] determined the structures of $(P_7,C_7,C_4$, diamond)-free and $(P_7,C_7,C_4$, gem)-frees, and gave correspondingly tight upper bounds to the chromatic numbers of these graphs. In this paper, we study the structure of $(P_7, C_5$, kite, paraglider)-free graphs, which is a superfamily of $(P_7, C_5$, diamond)-free graphs. We show that there is a unique connected imperfect $(P_7, C_5$, kite, paraglider)-free graph with $δ(G)\geqω(G)+1$, which has no clique cutsets, no universal cliques, and no pair of vertices of which one's neighborhoods contains the other's. As a consequence, we show that $(P_7, C_5$, kite, paraglider)-free graphs are $χ$-polydet with a binding function $ω(G)+1$. Where a {\em diamond} (resp. {\em gem}) consists of a $P_3$ (resp. $P_4$) and a new vertex adjacent to all vertices of the $P_3$ (resp. $P_4$), a {\em kite} consists of a $P_4$ and a new vertex adjacent to consecutive three vertices of the $P_4$, and a {\em paraglider} consists of a $C_4$ and a new vertex adjacent to three vertices of the $C_4$.

On Locally Identifying Coloring of Cartesian Product and Tensor Product of Graphs
For a positive integer $k$, a proper $k$-coloring of a graph $G$ is a mapping $f: V(G) \rightarrow \{1,2, \ldots, k\}$ such that $f(u) \neq f(v)$ for each edge $uv$ of $G$. The smallest integer $k$ for which there is a proper $k$-coloring of $G$ is called the chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $χ(G)$. A locally identifying coloring (for short, lid-coloring) of a graph $G$ is a proper $k$-coloring of $G$ such that every pair of adjacent vertices with distinct closed neighborhoods has distinct set of colors in their closed neighborhoods. The smallest integer $k$ such that $G$ has a lid-coloring with $k$ colors is called locally identifying chromatic number (for short, lid-chromatic number) of $G$, denoted by $χ_{lid}(G)$. This paper studies the lid-coloring of the Cartesian product and tensor product of two graphs. We prove that if $G$ and $H$ are two connected graphs having at least two vertices then (a) $χ_{lid}(G \square H) \leq χ(G) χ(H)-1$ and (b) $χ_{lid}(G \times H) \leq χ(G) χ(H)$. Here $G \square H$ and $G \times H$ denote the Cartesian and tensor products of $G$ and $H$ respectively. We determine the lid-chromatic number of $C_m \square P_n$, $C_m \square C_n$, $P_m \times P_n$, $C_m \times P_n$ and $C_m \times C_n$, where $C_m$ and $P_n$ denote a cycle and a path on $m$ and $n$ vertices respectively.
Chromatic number is not tournament-local
Scott and Seymour conjectured the existence of a function $f \colon \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}$ such that, for every graph $G$ and tournament $T$ on the same vertex set, $χ(G) \geqslant f(k)$ implies that $χ(G[N_T^+(v)]) \geqslant k$ for some vertex $v$. In this note we disprove this conjecture even if $v$ is replaced by a vertex set of size $\mathcal{O}(\log{\lvert V(G)\rvert})$. As a consequence, we answer in the negative a question of Harutyunyan, Le, Thomassé, and Wu concerning the corresponding statement where the graph $G$ is replaced by another tournament, and disprove a related conjecture of Nguyen, Scott, and Seymour. We also show that the setting where chromatic number is replaced by degeneracy exhibits a quite different behaviour.

On bridge graphs with local antimagic chromatic number 3
Let $G=(V, E)$ be a connected graph. A bijection $f: E\to \{1, \ldots, |E|\}$ is called a local antimagic labeling if for any two adjacent vertices $x$ and $y$, $f^+(x)\neq f^+(y)$, where $f^+(x)=\sum_{e\in E(x)}f(e)$ and $E(x)$ is the set of edges incident to $x$. Thus a local antimagic labeling induces a proper vertex coloring of $G$, where the vertex $x$ is assigned the color $f^+(x)$. The local antimagic chromatic number $χ_{la}(G)$ is the minimum number of colors taken over all colorings induced by local antimagic labelings of $G$. In this paper, we present some families of bridge graphs with $χ_{la}(G)=3$ and give several ways to construct bridge graphs with $χ_{la}(G)=3$.

Hadwiger's Conjecture for some graphs with independence number two
Let $h(G)$ denote the largest $t$ such that $G$ contains $K_t$ as a minor and $χ(G)$ be the chromatic number of $G$ respectively. In 1943, Hadwiger conjectured that $h(G) \geq χ(G)$ for any graph $G$. In this paper, we prove that Hadwiger's conjecture holds for $H$-free graphs with independence number two, where $H$ is one of some specified graphs.
Extremal Results on Conflict-free Coloring
A conflict-free open neighborhood coloring of a graph is an assignment of colors to the vertices such that for every vertex there is a color that appears exactly once in its open neighborhood. For a graph $G$, the smallest number of colors required for such a coloring is called the conflict-free open neighborhood (CFON) chromatic number and is denoted by $χ_{ON}(G)$. By considering closed neighborhood instead of open neighborhood, we obtain the analogous notions of conflict-free closed neighborhood (CFCN) coloring, and CFCN chromatic number (denoted by $χ_{CN}(G)$). The notion of conflict-free coloring was introduced in 2002, and has since received considerable attention. In this paper, we study some extremal questions related to CFON and CFCN coloring.

Tight bound on the minimum degree to guarantee graphs forbidding some odd cycles to be bipartite
Published • View PublicationBIB
Erdős and Simonovits asked the following question: For an integer $r\geq 2$ and a family of non-bipartite graphs $\mathcal{H}$, determine the infimum of $α$ such that any $\mathcal{H}$-free $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree at least $αn$ has chromatic number at most $r$. We answer this question for $r=2$ and any family consisting of odd cycles. Let ${\mathcal C}$ be a family of odd cycles in which $C_{2\ell+1}$ is the shortest odd cycle not in ${\mathcal C}$ and $C_{2k+1}$ is the longest odd cycle in ${\mathcal C}$, we show that if $G$ is an $n$-vertex ${\mathcal C}$-free graph with $n\ge 1000k^{8}$ and $δ(G)>\max\{ n/(2(2\ell+1)), 2n/(2k+3)\}$, then $G$ is bipartite. Moreover, the bound of the minimum degree is tight.
The robust chromatic number of graphs
A 1-removed subgraph $G_f$ of a graph $G=(V,E)$ is obtained by $(i)$ selecting at most one edge $f(v)$ for each vertex $v\in V$, such that $v\in f(v)\in E$ (the mapping $f:V\to E \cup \{\varnothing\}$ is allowed to be non-injective), and $(ii)$ deleting all the selected edges $f(v)$ from the edge set $E$ of $G$. Proper vertex colorings of 1-removed subgraphs proved to be a useful tool for earlier research on some Turán-type problems. In this paper, we introduce a systematic investigation of the graph invariant 1-robust chromatic number, denoted as $ω_1(G)$. This invariant is defined as the minimum chromatic number $χ(G_f)$ among all 1-removed subgraphs $G_f$ of $G$. We also examine other standard graph invariants in a similar manner.
The robust chromatic number of certain graph classes
A 1-selection $f$ of a graph $G$ is a function $f: V(G)\rightarrow E(G)$ such that $f(v)$ is incident to $v$ for every vertex $v$. The 1-removed $G_f$ is the graph $(V(G),E(G)\setminus f[V(G)])$. The (1-)robust chromatic number $χ_1(G)$ is the minimum of $χ(G_f)$ over all 1-selections $f$ of $G$. We determine the robust chromatic number of complete multipartite graphs and Kneser graphs and prove tight lower and upper bounds on the robust chromatic number of chordal graphs and some of their extensively studied subclasses, with respect to their ordinary chromatic number.

Group vertex-arboricity of group-labelled graphs
We introduce the vertex-arboricity of group-labelled graphs. For an abelian group $Γ$, a $Γ$-labelled graph is a graph whose edges are labelled by elements of $Γ$. For an abelian group $Γ$ and $A\subseteq Γ$, the $(Γ, A)$-vertex-arboricity of a $Γ$-labelled graph is the minimum integer $k$ such that its vertex set can be partitioned into $k$ parts where each part induces a subgraph having no cycle of value in $A$. We prove that for every positive integer $ω$, there is a function $f_ω:\mathbb{N}\times\mathbb{N}\to \mathbb{R}$ such that if $|Γ\setminus A|\le ω$, then every $Γ$-labelled graph with $(Γ, A)$-vertex-arboricity at least $f_ω(t,d)$ contains a subdivision of $K_t$ where all branching paths are of value in $A$ and of length at least $d$. This extends a well-known result that every graph of sufficiently large chromatic number contains a subdivision of $K_t$, in various directions.
The Game Chromatic Number of Complete Multipartite Graphs with No Singletons
In this paper we investigate the game chromatic number for complete multipartite graphs. We devise several strategies for Alice, and one strategy for Bob, and we prove their optimality in all complete multipartite graphs with no singletons. All the strategies presented are computable in linear time, and the values of the game chromatic number depend directly only on the number and the sizes of sets in the partition.

Bounds for eccentricity-based parameters of graphs
The \emph{eccentricity} of a vertex $u$ in a graph $G$, denoted by $e_G(u)$, is the maximum distance from $u$ to other vertices in $G$. We study extremal problems for the average eccentricity and the first and second Zagreb eccentricity indices, denoted by $σ_0(G)$, $σ_1(G)$, and $σ_2(G)$, respectively. These are defined by $σ_0(G)=\frac{1}{|V(G)|}\sum_{u\in V(G)}e_G(u)$, $σ_1(G)=\sum_{u\in V(G)}e_G^2(u)$, and $σ_2(G)=\sum_{uv\in E(G)}e_G(u)e_G(v)$. We study lower and upper bounds on these parameters among $n$-vertex connected graphs with fixed diameter, chromatic number, clique number, or matching number. Most of the bounds are sharp, with the corresponding extremal graphs characterized.

On uniquely packable trees
An $i$-packing in a graph $G$ is a set of vertices that are pairwise distance more than $i$ apart. A \emph{packing colouring} of $G$ is a partition $X=\{X_{1},X_{2},\ldots,X_{k}\}$ of $V(G)$ such that each colour class $X_{i}$ is an $i$-packing. The minimum order $k$ of a packing colouring is called the packing chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $χ_ρ(G)$. In this paper we investigate the existence of trees $T$ for which there is only one packing colouring using $χ_ρ(T)$ colours. For the case $χ_ρ(T)=3$, we completely characterise all such trees. As a by-product we obtain sets of uniquely $3$-$χ_ρ$-packable trees with monotone $χ_ρ$-coloring and non-monotone $χ_ρ$-coloring respectively.
