Suppose the edges of $K_n$ are assigned weights by a weight function $w$. We define the {\em weighted extremal number}
\[
\mathrm{ex}(n,w,F):=\max\{w(G)\mid G\subseteq K_n,\text{ and }G\text{ is }F\text{-free}\}
\]
where $w(G):=\sum_{e\in E(G)}w(e)$. In this paper we study this problem for two types of weights $w$, each of which has an application. The first application is to an extremal problem in a complete multipartite host graph. The second application is to the maximum rectilinear crossing number of trees of diameter 4.
Classes of graphs with no long cycle as a vertex-minor are polynomially $χ$-bounded

A class $\mathcal G$ of graphs is $χ$-bounded if there is a function $f$ such that for every graph $G\in \mathcal G$ and every induced subgraph $H$ of $G$, $χ(H)\le f(ω(H))$. In addition, we say that $\mathcal G$ is polynomially $χ$-bounded if $f$ can be taken as a polynomial function. We prove that for every integer $n\ge3$, there exists a polynomial $f$ such that $χ(G)\le f(ω(G))$ for all graphs with no vertex-minor isomorphic to the cycle graph $C_n$. To prove this, we show that if $\mathcal G$ is polynomially $χ$-bounded, then so is the closure of $\mathcal G$ under taking the $1$-join operation.

An induced path factor of a graph $G$ is a set of induced paths in $G$ with the property that every vertex of $G$ is in exactly one of the paths. The induced path number $ρ(G)$ of $G$ is the minimum number of paths in an induced path factor of $G$. We show that if $G$ is a connected cubic graph on $n>6$ vertices, then $ρ(G)\le(n-1)/3$.
Fix an integer $k\ge3$. For each $n$, define $\mathcal{M}_n$ to be the maximum value of $ρ(G)$ over all connected $k$-regular graphs $G$ on $n$ vertices. As $n\rightarrow\infty$ with $nk$ even, we show that $c_k=\lim(\mathcal{M}_n/n)$ exists. We prove that $5/18\le c_3\le1/3$ and $3/7\le c_4\le1/2$ and that $c_k=\frac12-O(k^{-1})$ for $k\rightarrow\infty$.

A partial automorphism of a finite graph is an isomorphism between its vertex induced subgraphs. The set of all partial automorphisms of a given finite graph forms an inverse monoid under composition (of partial maps). We describe the algebraic structure of such inverse monoids by the means of the standard tools of inverse semigroup theory, namely Green's relations and some properties of the natural partial order, and give a characterization of inverse monoids which arise as inverse monoids of partial graph automorphisms. We extend our results to digraphs and edge-colored digraphs as well.
Characterization of queer supercrystals

We provide a characterization of the crystal bases for the quantum queer superalgebra recently introduced by Grantcharov et al.. This characterization is a combination of local queer axioms generalizing Stembridge's local axioms for crystal bases for simply-laced root systems, which were recently introduced by Assaf and Oguz, with further axioms and a new graph $G$ characterizing the relations of the type $A$ components of the queer crystal. We provide a counterexample to Assaf's and Oguz' conjecture that the local queer axioms uniquely characterize the queer supercrystal. We obtain a combinatorial description of the graph $G$ on the type $A$ components by providing explicit combinatorial rules for the odd queer operators on certain highest weight elements.
The Simple Chromatic Number of $(m,n)$-Mixed Graphs
An $(m,n)$-mixed graph generalizes the notions of oriented graphs and edge-coloured graphs to a graph object with $m$ arc types and $n$ edge types. A simple colouring of such a graph is a non-trivial homomorphism to a reflexive target. We find that simple chromatic number of complete $(m,n)$-mixed graphs can be found in polynomial time. For planar graphs and $k$-trees ($k \geq 3$) we find that allowing the target to be reflexive does not lower the chromatic number of the respective family of $(m,n)$-mixed graphs. This implies that the search for universal targets for such families may be restricted to simple cliques.

The Maximum Number of Three Term Arithmetic Progressions, and Triangles in Cayley Graphs
Let $G$ be a finite Abelian group. For a subset $S \subseteq G$, let $T_3(S)$ denote the number of length three arithemtic progressions in $S$ and Prob[$S$] $= \frac{1}{|S|^2}\sum_{x,y \in S} 1_S(x+y)$. For any $q \ge 1$ and $α\in [0,1]$, and any $S \subseteq G$ with $|S| = \frac{|G|}{q+α}$, we show $\frac{T_3(S)}{|S|^2}$ and Prob[$S$] are bounded above by $\max\left(\frac{q^2-αq+α^2}{q^2},\frac{q^2+2αq+4α^2-6α+3}{(q+1)^2},γ_0\right)$, where $γ_0 < 1$ is an absolute constant. As a consequence, we verify a graph theoretic conjecture of Gan, Loh, and Sudakov for Cayley graphs.

Generalizing previous work of Hora (1998) on the asymptotic spectral analysis for the Hamming graph $H(n,q)$ which is the $n^{\mathrm{th}}$ Cartesian power $K_q^{\square n}$ of the complete graph $K_q$ on $q$ vertices, we describe the possible limits of the joint spectral distribution of the pair $(G^{\square n},\overline{G}\vphantom{G}^{\square n})$ of the $n^{\mathrm{th}}$ Cartesian powers of a strongly regular graph $G$ and its complement $\overline{G}$, where we let $n\rightarrow\infty$, and $G$ may vary with $n$. This result is an analogue of the bivariate central limit theorem, and we obtain in this way the bivariate Poisson distributions and the standard bivariate Gaussian distribution, together with the product measures of univariate Poisson and Gaussian distributions. We also report a family of bivariate hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials with respect to the last distributions, which we call the bivariate Charlier-Hermite polynomials, and prove basic formulas for them. This family of orthogonal polynomials seems previously unnoticed, possibly because of its peculiarity.
Cut distance identifying graphon parameters over weak* limits

The theory of graphons comes with the so-called cut norm and the derived cut distance. The cut norm is finer than the weak* topology (when considering the predual of $L^{1}$-functions). Doležal and Hladký [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 137 (2019), 232-263] showed, that given a sequence of graphons, a cut distance accumulation graphon can be pinpointed in the set of weak* accumulation points as a minimizer of the entropy. Motivated by this, we study graphon parameters with the property that their minimizers or maximizers identify cut distance accumulation points over the set of weak* accumulation points. We call such parameters cut distance identifying.
Of particular importance are cut distance identifying parameters coming from homomorphism densities, $t(H,\cdot)$. This concept is closely related to the emerging field of graph norms, and the notions of the step Sidorenko property and the step forcing property introduced by Kráľ, Martins, Pach and Wrochna [J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 162 (2019), 34-54]. We prove that a connected graph is weakly norming if and only if it is step Sidorenko, and that if a graph is norming then it is step forcing.
Further, we study convexity properties of cut distance identifying graphon parameters, and find a way to identify cut distance limits using spectra of graphons. We also show that continuous cut distance identifying graphon parameters have the «pumping property», and thus can be used in the proof of the Frieze-Kannan regularity lemma.
The Undirected Two Disjoint Shortest Paths Problem

The $k$ disjoint shortest paths problem ($k$-DSPP) on a graph with $k$ source-sink pairs $(s_i, t_i)$ asks for the existence of $k$ pairwise edge- or vertex-disjoint shortest $s_i$-$t_i$-paths. It is known to be NP-complete if $k$ is part of the input. Restricting to $2$-DSPP with strictly positive lengths, it becomes solvable in polynomial time. We extend this result by allowing zero edge lengths and give a polynomial time algorithm based on dynamic programming for $2$-DSPP on undirected graphs with non-negative edge lengths.
More Cases Where the Kruskal-Katona Bound is Tight
In graph theory, knowing the number of complete subgraphs with r vertices that a graph g has, limits the number of its complete subgraphs with s vertices, for s > r. A useful upper bound is provided by the Kruskal-Katona theorem, but this bound is often not tight. In this note, we add to the known cases where this bound is tight and begin an investigation of tight bounded graph sequences.
Convex functions on graphs: Sum of the eigenvalues
Let $G$ be a simple graph with the Laplacian matrix $L(G)$ and let $e(G)$ be the number of edges of $G$. A conjecture by Brouwer and a conjecture by Grone and Merris state that the sum of the $k$ largest Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ is at most $e(G)+\binom{k+1}{2}$ and $\sum_{i=1}^{k}d_{i}^{*}$, respectively, where $(d_{i}^{*})_{i}$ is the conjugate of the degree sequence $(d_i)_{i}$. We generalize these conjectures to weighted graphs and symmetric matrices. Moreover, among other results we show that under some assumptions, concave upper bounds on convex functions of symmetric real matrices are equivalent to concave upper bounds on convex functions of $(0,1)$ matrices.
Minimum Eccentric Connectivity Index for Graphs with Fixed Order and Fixed Number of Pending Vertices

The eccentric connectivity index of a connected graph $G$ is the sum over all vertices $v$ of the product $d_{G}(v) e_{G}(v)$, where $d_{G}(v)$ is the degree of $v$ in $G$ and $e_{G}(v)$ is the maximum distance between $v$ and any other vertex of $G$. This index is helpful for the prediction of biological activities of diverse nature, a molecule being modeled as a graph where atoms are represented by vertices and chemical bonds by edges. We characterize those graphs which have the smallest eccentric connectivity index among all connected graphs of a given order $n$. Also, given two integers $n$ and $p$ with $p\leq n-1$, we characterize those graphs which have the smallest eccentric connectivity index among all connected graphs of order $n$ with $p$ pending vertices.

Given a partition $V_1 \sqcup V_2 \sqcup \dots \sqcup V_m$ of the vertex set of a graph, we are interested in finding multiple disjoint independent sets that contain the correct fraction of vertices of each $V_j$. We give conditions for the existence of $q$ such independent sets in terms of the topology of the independence complex. We relate this question to the existence of $q$-fold points of coincidence for any continuous map from the independence complex to Euclidean space of a certain dimension, and to the existence of equivariant maps from the $q$-fold deleted join of the independence complex to a certain representation sphere of the symmetric group. As a corollary we derive the existence of $q$ pairwise disjoint independent sets accurately representing the $V_j$ in certain sparse graphs for $q$ a power of a prime.

There have been researches on sufficient spectral conditions for Hamiltonian properties and path-coverable properties of graphs. Utilizing the Bondy-Chvátal closure, we provide a unified approach to study sufficient graph eigenvalue conditions for these properties and sharpen former spectral results in [{\em Linear Algebra Appl.}, 432 (2010), 566-570], [{\em Linear Algebra Appl.}, 432 (2010), 2170-2173], [{\em Appl. Properties of stepwise irregular graphs
Stepwise irregular (SI) graphs were introduced by Ivan Gutman recently in 2018 and in these graphs the difference between the degrees of any two adjacent vertices is exactly one. In this work, we show the existence of connected bicyclic SI graphs of order 5 and 9 which has been claimed to be non-existent by Gutman. We also show the existence of SI graphs of different order and cyclomatic numbers when there exist a SI graph with a vertex of degree 1 or 2. We give a characterization on the order of the connected tricyclic SI graphs. At the end, we investigate some properties of the SI graphs under elementary graph operations along with the lower and upper bound of the irregularity of SI graphs.
The smallest strictly Neumaier graph and its generalisations

A regular clique in a regular graph is a clique such that every vertex outside of the clique is adjacent to the same positive number of vertices inside the clique. We continue the study of regular cliques in edge-regular graphs initiated by A. Neumaier in the 1980s and attracting current interest. We thus define a Neumaier graph to be an non-complete edge-regular graph containing a regular clique, and a strictly Neumaier graph to be a non-strongly regular Neumaier graph. We first prove some general results on Neumaier graphs and their feasible parameter tuples. We then apply these results to determine the smallest strictly Neumaier graph, which has $16$ vertices. Next we find the parameter tuples for all strictly Neumaier graphs having at most $24$ vertices. Finally, we give two sequences of graphs, each with $i^{\text{th}}$ element a strictly Neumaier graph containing a $2^{i}$-regular clique (where $i$ is a positive integer) and having parameters of an affine polar graph as an edge-regular graph. This answers questions recently posed by G. Greaves and J. Koolen.

The paper provides the first constructions of strongly regular graphs and association schemes from weakly regular plateaued functions over finite fields of odd characteristic. We generalize the construction method of strongly regular graphs from weakly regular bent functions given by Chee et al. in [Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 34(2), 251-266, 2011] to weakly regular plateaued functions. In this framework, we construct strongly regular graphs with three types of parameters from weakly regular plateaued functions with some homogeneous conditions. We also construct a family of association schemes of class p from weakly regular p-ary plateaued functions.
