A \textit{$3$-net} of order $n$ is a finite incidence structure consisting of points and three pairwise disjoint classes of lines, each of size $n$, such that every point incident with two lines from distinct classes is incident with exactly one line from each of the three classes. The current interest around $3$-nets (embedded) in a projective plane $PG(2,K)$, defined over a field $K$ of characteristic $p$, arose from algebraic geometry. It is not difficult to find $3$-nets in $PG(2,K)$ as far as $0<p\le n$. However, only a few infinite families of $3$-nets in $PG(2,K)$ are known to exist whenever $p=0$, or $p>n$. Under this condition, the known families are characterized as the only $3$-nets in $PG(2,K)$ which can be coordinatized by a group. In this paper we deal with $3$-nets in $PG(2,K)$ which can be coordinatized by a diassociative loop $G$ but not by a group. We prove two structural theorems on $G$. As a corollary, if $G$ is commutative then every non-trivial element of $G$ has the same order, and $G$ has exponent $2$ or $3$. We also discuss the existence problem for such $3$-nets.

The present article deals with various generating series and group schemes (not necessarily affine ones) associated with MZVs. Our developments are motivated by Ecalle's mould calculus approach to the latter. We propose in particular a Hopf algebra--type encoding of symmetril moulds and introduce a new resummation process for MZVs.

In [J. Algebra 452 (2016), 372-389], we characterise when the sequence of free subgroup numbers of a finitely generated virtually free group $Γ$ is ultimately periodic modulo a given prime power. Here, we show that, in the remaining cases, in which the sequence of free subgroup numbers is not ultimately periodic modulo a given prime power, the number of free subgroups of index~$λ$ in $Γ$ is - essentially - congruent to a binomial coefficient times a rational function in $λ$ modulo a power of a prime that divides a certain invariant of the group $Γ$, respectively to a binomial sum involving such numbers. These results, apart from their intrinsic interest, in particular allow for a much more efficient computation of congruences for free subgroup numbers in these cases compared to the direct recursive computation of these numbers implied by the generating function results in [J. London Math. Soc. (2) 44 (1991), 75-94].

Chapoton has observed a simple product formula for the number of reflections in a finite Coxeter group that have full support. We give a uniform proof of his formula for Weyl groups. We furthermore refine his formula by the length of the roots.
Graph Isomorphism for unit square graphs
In the past decades for more and more graph classes the Graph Isomorphism Problem was shown to be solvable in polynomial time. An interesting family of graph classes arises from intersection graphs of geometric objects. In this work we show that the Graph Isomorphism Problem for unit square graphs, intersection graphs of axis-parallel unit squares in the plane, can be solved in polynomial time. Since the recognition problem for this class of graphs is NP-hard we can not rely on standard techniques for geometric graphs based on constructing a canonical realization. Instead, we develop new techniques which combine structural insights into the class of unit square graphs with understanding of the automorphism group of such graphs. For the latter we introduce a generalization of bounded degree graphs which is used to capture the main structure of unit square graphs. Using group theoretic algorithms we obtain sufficient information to solve the isomorphism problem for unit square graphs.

For odd n, the alternating group on n elements is generated by the permutations that jump an element from any odd position to position 1. We prove Hamiltonicity of the associated directed Cayley graph for all odd n not equal to 5. (A result of Rankin implies that the graph is not Hamiltonian for n=5.) This solves a problem arising in rank modulation schemes for flash memory. Our result disproves a conjecture of Horovitz and Etzion, and proves another conjecture of Yehezkeally and Schwartz.

We study recursive cubes of rings as models for interconnection networks. We first redefine each of them as a Cayley graph on the semidirect product of an elementary abelian group by a cyclic group in order to facilitate the study of them by using algebraic tools. We give an algorithm for computing shortest paths and the distance between any two vertices in recursive cubes of rings, and obtain the exact value of their diameters. We obtain sharp bounds on the Wiener index, vertex-forwarding index, edge-forwarding index and bisection width of recursive cubes of rings. The cube-connected cycles and cube-of-rings are special recursive cubes of rings, and hence all results obtained in the paper apply to these well-known networks.

The isomorphism problem of Cayley graphs has been well studied in the literature, such as characterizations of CI (DCI)-graphs and CI (DCI)-groups. In this paper, we generalize these to vertex-transitive graphs and establish parallel results. Some interesting vertex-transitive graphs are given, including a first example of connected symmetric non-Cayley non-GI-graph. Also, we initiate the study for GI and DGI-groups, defined analogously to the concept of CI and DCI-groups.

Let $G$ be a transitive permutation group of degree $n$. We say that $G$ is $2'$-elusive if $n$ is divisible by an odd prime, but $G$ does not contain a derangement of odd prime order. In this paper we study the structure of quasiprimitive and biquasiprimitive $2'$-elusive permutation groups, extending earlier work of Giudici and Xu on elusive groups. As an application, we use our results to investigate automorphisms of finite arc-transitive graphs of prime valency.

The Cartan scheme $\cal X$ of a finite group $G$ with a $(B,N)$-pair is defined to be the coherent configuration associated with the action of $G$ on the right cosets of the Cartan subgroup $B\cap N$ by the right multiplications. It is proved that if $G$ is a simple group of Lie type, then asymptotically, the coherent configuration $\cal X$ is 2-separable, i.e., the array of 2-dimensional intersection numbers determines $\cal X$ up to isomorphism. It is also proved that in this case, the base number of $\cal X$ equals 2. This enables us to construct a polynomial-time algorithm for recognizing the Cartan schemes when the rank of $G$ and order of the underlying field are sufficiently large. One of the key points in the proof of the main results is a new sufficient condition for an arbitrary homogeneous coherent configuration to be 2-separable.

A graph $G$ is hypohamiltonian if $G$ is non-hamiltonian and $G - v$ is hamiltonian for every $v \in V(G)$. In the following, every graph is assumed to be hypohamiltonian. Aldred, Wormald, and McKay gave a list of all graphs of order at most 17. In this article, we present an algorithm to generate all graphs of a given order and apply it to prove that there exist exactly 14 graphs of order 18 and 34 graphs of order 19. We also extend their results in the cubic case. Furthermore, we show that (i) the smallest graph of girth 6 has order 25, (ii) the smallest planar graph has order at least 23, (iii) the smallest cubic planar graph has order at least 54, and (iv) the smallest cubic planar graph of girth 5 with non-trivial automorphism group has order 78.
Stability result for sets with $3A\ne{\mathbb Z}_5^n$
As an easy corollary of Kneser's Theorem, if $A$ is a subset of the elementary abelian group ${\mathbb Z}_5^n$ of density $5^{-n}|A|>0.4$, then $3A={\mathbb Z}_5^n$. We establish the complementary stability result: if $5^{-n}|A|>0.3$ and $3A\ne{\mathbb Z}_5^n$, then $A$ is contained in a union of two cosets of an index-$5$ subgroup of ${\mathbb Z}_5^n$. Here the density bound $0.3$ is sharp.
Our argument combines combinatorial reasoning with a somewhat non-standard application of the character sum technique.

Let $X$ be a nonempty real variety that is invariant under the action of a reflection group $G$. We conjecture that if $X$ is defined in terms of the first $k$ basic invariants of $G$ (ordered by degree), then $X$ meets a $k$-dimensional flat of the associated reflection arrangement. We prove this conjecture for the infinite types, reflection groups of rank at most $3$, and $F_4$ and we give computational evidence for $H_4$. This is a generalization of Timofte's degree principle to reflection groups. For general reflection groups, we compute nontrivial upper bounds on the minimal dimension of flats of the reflection arrangement meeting $X$ from the combinatorics of parabolic subgroups. We also give generalizations to real varieties invariant under Lie groups.
Schubert polynomials and degeneracy locus formulas

In our previous work arXiv:1305.3543, we employed the approach to Schubert polynomials by Fomin, Stanley, and Kirillov to obtain simple, uniform proofs that the double Schubert polynomials of Lascoux and Schutzenberger and Ikeda, Mihalcea, and Naruse represent degeneracy loci for the classical groups in the sense of Fulton. Using this as our starting point, and purely combinatorial methods, we obtain a new proof of the general formulas of arXiv:0908.3628, which represent the degeneracy loci coming from any isotropic partial flag variety. Along the way, we also find several new formulas and elucidate the connections between some earlier ones.

Cluster automorphisms have been shown to have links to the mapping class groups of surfaces, maximal green sequences and to exchange graph automorphisms for skew-symmetric cluster algebras. In this paper we aim to generalise these results to the skew-symmetrizable case by introducing a marking on the exchange graph. Many skew-symmetrizable matrices unfold to skew-symmetric matrices and we consider how cluster automorphisms behave under this unfolding with applications to coverings of orbifolds by surfaces.

For a subgroup $L$ of the symmetric group $S_\ell$, we determine the minimal base size of $GL_d(q)\wr L$ acting on $V_d(q)^\ell$ as an imprimitive linear group. This is achieved by computing the number of orbits of $GL_d(q)$ on spanning $m$-tuples, which turns out to be the number of $d$-dimensional subspaces of $V_m(q)$. We then use these results to prove that for certain families of subgroups $L$, the affine groups whose stabilisers are large subgroups of $GL_d(q)\wr L$ satisfy a conjecture of Pyber concerning bases.

Let G be a connected bipartite graph with color classes E and V and root polytope Q. Regarding the hypergraph (V,E) induced by G, we prove that its interior polynomial is equivalent to the Ehrhart polynomial of Q, which in turn is equivalent to the h-vector of any triangulation of Q. It follows that the interior polynomials of (V,E) and its transpose (E,V) agree.
When G is a complete bipartite graph, our result recovers a well known hypergeometric identity due to Saalschütz. It also implies that certain extremal coefficients in the Homfly polynomial of a special alternating link can be read off of an associated Floer homology group.

Answering a question of Geoff Robinson, we compute the large n limiting proportion of i(n,q)/q^[n^2/2], where i(n,q) denotes the number of involutions in GL(n,q). We give similar results for the finite unitary, symplectic, and orthogonal groups, in both odd and even characteristic. At the heart of this work are certain new "sum=product" identities. Our self-contained treatment of the enumeration of involutions in even characteristic symplectic and orthogonal groups may also be of interest.

For any given finite group, Schulte and Williams (2015) establish the existence of a convex polytope whose combinatorial automorphisms form a group isomorphic to the given group. We provide here a shorter proof for a stronger result: the convex polytope we build for the given finite group is binary, and even combinatorial in the sense of Naddef and Pulleyblank (1981); the diameter of its skeleton is at most 2; any combinatorial automorphism of the polytope is induced by some isometry of the space; any automorphism of the skeleton is a combinatorial automorphism.
