The integral representation of the Hadamard product of two functions is used to prove several Euler-type series transformation formulas. As applications we obtain three binomial identities involving harmonic numbers and an identity for the Laguerre polynomials. We also evaluate in a closed form certain power series with harmonic numbers
Recurrence relations for polynomial sequences via Riordan matrices
We give recurrence relations for any family of generalized Appell polynomials unifying so some known recurrences of many classical sequences of polynomials. Our main tool to get our goal is the Riordan group. We use the product of Riordan matrices to interpret some relationships between different families of polynomials. Moreover using the Hadamard product of series we get a general recurrence relation for the polynomial sequences associated to the so called generalized umbral calculus.

Louis W. Shapiro gave a combinatorial proof of a bilinear generating function for Chebyshev polynomials equivalent to the formula 1/(1-ax-x^2) * 1/(1-bx-x^2) = (1-x^2)/(1-abx-(2+a^2+b^2)x^2 -abx^3+x^4), where * denotes the Hadamard product. In a similar way, by considering tilings of a 2 by n rectangle with 1 by 1 and 1 by 2 bricks in the top row, and 1 by 1 and 1 by n bricks in the bottom row, we find an explicit formula for the Hadamard product 1/(1-ax-x^2) * x^m/(1-bx-x^n).
Rational Hadamard products via Quantum Diagonal Operators
We use the remark that, through Bargmann-Fock representation, diagonal operators of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra are scalars for the Hadamard product to give some properties (like the stability of periodic fonctions) of the Hadamard product by a rational fraction. In particular, we provide through this way explicit formulas for the multiplication table of the Hadamard product in the algebra of rational functions in $\C[[z]]$.

Polygons are described as almost-convex if their perimeter differs from the perimeter of their minimum bounding rectangle by twice their `concavity index', $m$. Such polygons are called \emph{$m$-convex} polygons and are characterised by having up to $m$ indentations in their perimeter. We first describe how we conjectured the (isotropic) generating function for the case $m=2$ using a numerical procedure based on series expansions. We then proceed to prove this result for the more general case of the full anisotropic generating function, in which steps in the $x$ and $y$ direction are distinguished. In so doing, we develop tools that would allow for the case $m > 2$ to be studied. %In our proof we use a `divide and conquer' approach, factorising 2-convex %polygons by extending a line along the base of its indents. We then use %the inclusion-exclusion principle, the Hadamard product and extensions to %known methods to derive the generating functions for each case.

Using recent results on singularity analysis for Hadamard products of generating functions, we obtain the limiting distributions for additive functionals on $m$-ary search trees on $n$ keys with toll sequence (i) $n^α$ with $α\geq 0$ ($α=0$ and $α=1$ correspond roughly to the space requirement and total path length, respectively); (ii) $\ln \binom{n}{m-1}$, which corresponds to the so-called shape functional; and (iii) $\mathbf{1}_{n=m-1}$, which corresponds to the number of leaves.

We present a toolbox for extracting asymptotic information on the coefficients of combinatorial generating functions. This toolbox notably includes a treatment of the effect of Hadamard products on singularities in the context of the complex Tauberian technique known as singularity analysis. As a consequence, it becomes possible to unify the analysis of a number of divide-and-conquer algorithms, or equivalently random tree models, including several classical methods for sorting, searching, and dynamically managing equivalence relations

Additive tree functionals represent the cost of many divide-and-conquer algorithms. We derive the limiting distribution of the additive functionals induced by toll functions of the form (a) n^αwhen α> 0 and (b) log n (the so-called shape functional) on uniformly distributed binary search trees, sometimes called Catalan trees. The Gaussian law obtained in the latter case complements the central limit theorem for the shape functional under the random permutation model. Our results give rise to an apparently new family of distributions containing the Airy distribution (α= 1) and the normal distribution [case (b), and case (a) as $α\downarrow 0$]. The main theoretical tools employed are recent results relating asymptotics of the generating functions of sequences to those of their Hadamard product, and the method of moments.
Additive functionals on random search trees
Search trees are fundamental data structures in computer science. We study functionals on random search trees that satisfy recurrence relations of a simple additive form. Many important functionals including the space requirement, internal path length, and the so-called shape functional fall under this framework. Our goal is to derive asymptotics of moments and identify limiting distributions of these functionals under two commonly studied probability models -- the random permutation model and the uniform model.
For the random permutation model, our approach is based on establishing transfer theorems that link the order of growth of the input into a particular deterministic recurrence to the order of growth of the output. For the uniform model, our approach is based on the complex-analytic tool of singularity analysis. To facilitate a systematic analysis of these additive functionals we extend singularity analysis, a class of methods by which one can translate on a term-by-term basis an asymptotic expansion of a functional around its dominant singularity into a corresponding expansion for the Taylor coefficients of the function. The most important extension is the determination of how singularities are composed under the operation of Hadamard product of analytic power series.
The transfer theorems derived are used in conjunction with the method of moments to establish limit laws for m-ary search trees under the random permutation model. For the uniform model on binary search trees, the extended singularity analysis toolkit is employed to establish the asymptotic behavior of the moments of a wide class of functionals. These asymptotics are used, again in conjunction with the method of moments, to derive limit laws.

We refine a technique used in a paper by Schur on real-rooted polynomials. This amounts to an extension of a theorem of Wagner on Hadamard products of Toeplitz matrices. We also apply our results to polynomials for which the Neggers-Stanley Conjecture is known to hold. More precisely, we settle interlacing properties for $E$-polynomials of series-parallel posets and column-strict labelled Ferrers posets.
Inverse tridiagonal Z-matrices

In this paper, we consider matrices whose inverses are tridiagonal Z--matrices. Based on a characterization of symmetric tridiagonal matrices by Gantmacher and Krein, we show that a matrix is the inverse of a tridiagonal Z--matrix if and only if, up to a positive scaling of the rows, it is the Hadamard product of a so called weak type $\D$ matrix and a flipped weak type $\D$ matrix whose parameters satisfy certain quadratic conditions. We predict from these parameters to which class of Z--matrices the inverse belongs to. In particular, we give a characterization of inverse tridiagonal M--matrices. Moreover, we characterize inverses of tridiagonal M--matrices that satisfy certain row sum criteria. This leads to the cyclopses that are matrices constructed from type $\D$ and flipped type $\D$ matrices. We establish some properties of the cyclopses and provide explicit formulae for the entries of the inverse of a nonsingular cyclops. We also show that the cyclopses are the only generalized ultrametric matrices whose inverses are tridiagonal.
