Generalized Lambert Series Identities and Applications in Rank Differences
In this article, we prove two identities of generalized Lambert series. By introducing what we call $\mathcal{S}$-series, we establish relationships between multiple generalized Lambert series and multiple infinite products. Compared with Chan's work, these new identities are useful in generating various formulas for generalized Lambert series with the same poles. Using these formulas, we study the 3-dissection properties of ranks for overpartitions modulo 6. In this case, $-1$ appears as a unit root, so that double poles occur. We also relate these ranks to the third order mock theta functions $ω(q)$ and $ρ(q)$
Combinatorial Proofs of Two Overpartition Theorems Connected by a Universal Mock Theta Function
In 2015, Bringmann, Lovejoy and Mahlburg considered certain kinds overpartitions, which can been seen as the overpartition analogue of Schur's partition. The motivation of their work is that the difference between the generating function of Schur's classical partitions and the generating functions of the partitions in which the smallest part is excluded. The difference between the two generating functions of partitions is a specialization of the "universal" mock theta function g_3 which introduced by Hickerson. To give an analogue of this, by using another universal mock theta function g_2 instead of g_3, Bringmann Lovejoy and Mahlburg introduced two kinds of overpartitions, which satisfy certain congruence conditions and difference conditions with the smallest parts different. They prove these theorems by using the q-differential equations. In this paper, we will give the generating functions of these two kinds of overpartitions by combinatorial technique.

A filtration of a representation whose successive quotients are isomorphic to Demazure modules is called an excellent filtration. In this paper we study graded multiplicities in excellent filtrations of fusion products for the current algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2[t]$. We give a combinatorial formula for the polynomials encoding these multiplicities in terms of two dimensional lattice paths. Corollaries to our main theorem include a combinatorial interpretation of various objects such as the coeffficients of Ramanujan's fifth order mock theta functions $φ_0, φ_1, ψ_0, ψ_1$, Kostka polynomials for hook partitions and quotients of Chebyshev polynomials. We also get a combinatorial interpretation of the graded multiplicities in a level one flag of a local Weyl module associated to the simple Lie algebras of type $B_n \text{ and } G_2$.

Partitions associated with mock theta functions have received a great deal of attention in the literature. Recently, Choi and Kim derived several partition identities from the third and sixth order mock theta functions. In addition, three Ramanujan-type congruences were established by them. In this paper, we present some new congruences for these partition functions.
Jacobi's triple product, mock theta functions, unimodal sequences and the $q$-bracket

In Ramanujan's final letter to Hardy, he listed examples of a strange new class of infinite series he called "mock theta functions". It turns out all of these examples are essentially specializations of a so-called universal mock theta function $g_3(z,q)$ of Gordon-McIntosh. Here we show that $g_3$ arises naturally from the reciprocal of the classical Jacobi triple product -- and is intimately tied to rank generating functions for unimodal sequences, which are connected to mock modular and quantum modular forms -- under the action of an operator related to statistical physics and partition theory, the $q$-bracket of Bloch-Okounkov. Secondly, we find $g_3(z,q)$ to extend in $q$ to the entire complex plane minus the unit circle, and give a finite formula for this universal mock theta function at roots of unity, that is simple by comparison to other such formulas in the literature; we also indicate similar formulas for other $q$-hypergeometric series. Finally, we look at interesting "quantum" behaviors of mock theta functions inside, outside, and on the unit circle.
Counting Matrices that are Squares
On the math-fun mailing list (7 May 2013), Neil Sloane asked to calculate the number of $n \times n$ matrices with entries in $\{0,1\}$ which are squares of other such matrices. In this paper we analyze the case that the arithmetic is in $\mathbb{F}_{2}$. We follow the dictum of Wilf ("What is an answer?") to derive a "effective" algorithm to count such matrices in much less time than it takes to enumerate them. The algorithm which we use involves the analysis of conjugacy classes of matrices. The restricted integer partitions which arise are counted by the coefficients of one of Ramanujan's mock Theta functions, which we found thanks to Sloane's OEIS (Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences). Let $a_n$ be the number elements of ${\rm Mat}_n(\mathbb{F}_{2})$ which are squares, and $b_n$ be the number of elements of ${\rm GL}(n,\mathbb{F}_{2})$ which are squares. The numerical results strongly suggest that there are constants $α,β> 0$ such that $a_n \sim α2^{n^2}$, $b_n \sim β2^{n^2}$.
The part-frequency matrices of a partition

A new combinatorial object is introduced, the part-frequency matrix sequence of a partition, which is elementary to describe and is naturally motivated by Glaisher's bijection. We prove results that suggest surprising usefulness for such a simple tool, including the existence of a related statistic that realizes every possible Ramanujan-type congruence for the partition function. To further exhibit its research utility, we give an easy generalization of a theorem of Andrews, Dixit and Yee on the mock theta functions. Throughout, we state a number of observations and questions that can motivate an array of investigations.

We study the level $m$--Demazure flag of a level $\ell$--Demazure module for $\frak{sl}_2[t]$. We define the generating series $A_n^{\ell \rightarrow m}(x,q)$ which encodes the $q$--multiplicity of the level $m$ Demazure module of weight $n$. We establish two recursive formulae for these functions. We show that the specialization to $q=1$ is a rational function involving the Chebyshev polynomials. We give a closed form for $A_n^{\ell \rightarrow \ell+1}(x,q)$ and prove that it is given by a rational function. In the case when $m=\ell+1$ and $\ell=1,2$, we relate the generating series to partial theta series. We also study the specializations $A_n^{1\rightarrow 3}(q^k,q)$ and relate them to the fifth order mock-theta functions of Ramanujan.

We use a generalized Lambert series identity due to the first author to present q-series proofs of recent results of Imamoglu, Raum and Richter concerning recursive formulas for the coefficients of two 3rd order mock theta functions. Additionally, we discuss an application of this identity to other mock theta functions.

We prove a general result on Bailey pairs and show that two Bailey pairs of Bringmann and Kane are special cases. We also show how to use a change of base formula to pass from the pairs of Bringmann and Kane to pairs used by Andrews in his study of Ramanujan's seventh order mock theta functions. We derive several more Bailey pairs of a similar type and use these to construct a number of new q-hypergeometric double sums which are mock theta functions. Finally, we prove identities between some of these mock theta double sums and classical mock theta functions.

Recently, Garvan obtained two-variable Hecke-Rogers identities for three universal mock theta functions $g_2(z;q),\,g_3(z;q),\,K(z;q)$ by using basic hypergeometric functions, and he proposed a problem of finding direct proofs of these identities by using Bailey pair technology. In this paper, we give proofs of Garvan's identities by applying Bailey's transform with the conjugate Bailey pair of Warnaar and three Bailey pairs deduced from two special cases of $_6ψ_6$ given by Slater. In particular, we obtain a compact form of two-variable Hecke-Rogers identity related to $g_3(z;q)$, which imply the corresponding identity given by Garvan. We also extend these two-variable Hecke-Rogers identities into infinite families.

We obtain two-variable Hecke-Rogers identities for three universal mock theta functions. This implies that many of Ramanujan's mock theta functions, including all the third order functions, have a Hecke-Rogers-type double sum representation. We find new generating function identities for the Dyson rank function, the overpartition rank function, the M2-rank function and related spt-crank functions. Results are proved using the theory of basic hypergeometric functions.

In his deathbed letter to Hardy, Ramanujan gave a vague definition of a mock modular function: at each root of unity its asymptotics matches the one of a modular form, though a choice of the modular function depends on the root of unity. Recently Folsom, Ono and Rhoades have proved an elegant result about the match for a general family related to Dyson's rank (mock theta) function and the Andrews--Garvan crank (modular) function---the match with explicit formulae for implied $O(1)$ constants. In this note we give another elementary proof of Ramanujan's original claim and outline some heuristics which may be useful for obtaining a new proof of the general Folsom--Ono--Rhoades theorem.
Schur's partition theorem and mixed mock modular forms
We study families of partitions with gap conditions that were introduced by Schur and Andrews, and describe their fundamental connections to combinatorial q-series and automorphic forms. In particular, we show that the generating functions for these families naturally lead to deep identities for theta functions and Hickerson's universal mock theta function, which provides a very general answer to Andrews' Conjecture on the modularity of the Schur-type generating function. Furthermore, we also complete the second part of Andrews' speculation by determining the asymptotic behavior of these functions. In particular, we use Wright's Circle Method in order to prove families of asymptotic inequalities in the spirit of the Alder-Andrews Conjecture. As a final application, we prove the striking result that the universal mock theta function can be expressed as a conditional probability in a certain natural probability space with an infinite sequence of independent events.

We employ spectral methods of automorphic forms to establish a holomorphic projection operator for tensor products of vector-valued harmonic weak Maass forms and vector-valued modular forms. We apply this operator to discover simple recursions for Fourier series coefficients of Ramanujan's mock theta functions.

Recently, Bringmann and Kane established two new Bailey pairs and used them to relate certain q-hypergeometric series to real quadratic fields. We show how these pairs give rise to new mock theta functions in the form of q-hypergeometric double sums. Additionally, we prove an identity between one of these sums and two classical mock theta functions introduced by Gordon and McIntosh.

Standard applications of the Bailey chain preserve mixed mock modularity but not mock modularity. After illustrating this with some examples, we show how to use a change of base in Bailey pairs due to Bressoud, Ismail and Stanton to explicitly construct families of q-hypergeometric multisums which are mock theta functions. We also prove identities involving some of these multisums and certain classical mock theta functions.

In this work, we give combinatorial proofs for generating functions of two problems, i.e., flushed partitions and concave compositions of even length. We also give combinatorial interpretation of one problem posed by Sylvester involving flushed partitions and then prove it. For these purposes, we first describe an involution and use it to prove core identities. Using this involution with modifications, we prove several problems of different nature, including Andrews' partition identities involving initial repetitions and partition theoretical interpretations of three mock theta functions of third order $f(q)$, $φ(q)$ and $ψ(q)$. An identity of Ramanujan is proved combinatorially. Several new identities are also established.
