On minimal pattern-containing inversion sequences
We introduce the notion of minimal inversion sequences for a pattern $ρ$, which form the smallest set of inversion sequences whose avoidance is equivalent to the avoidance of $ρ$ for inversion sequences. We give a characterization of $ρ$-minimal inversion sequences based on the occurrences of the pattern $ρ$ they contain, and use it to find upper and lower bounds on the lengths of $ρ$-minimal inversion sequences. We provide some enumerative results on the exact number of minimal inversion sequences for some patterns, through a bijection with increasing trees, and some exhaustive generation. Lastly, we enumerate inversion sequences which are equal to their reduction, and find an interesting connection with poly-Bernoulli numbers.

Hurwitz--Lerch Type Families of Poly-Bernoulli and Poly-Cauchy Numbers and Polynomials with Parameters $(α,a)$
This study introduces $(α,a)$-parameterized Hurwitz-Lerch type poly-Bernoulli and poly-Cauchy numbers and polynomials, extending classical sequences through the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function. We derive generating functions, recurrences, and explicit formulas, revealing deeper structures and connections with zeta functions and polylogarithms. The results enrich existing theory and open new directions in analytic number theory and combinatorics.
Combinatorics of factorization systems on lattices
We initiate the combinatorial study of factorization systems on finite lattices, paying special attention to the role that reflective and coreflective factorization systems play in partitioning the poset of factorization systems on a fixed lattice. We ultimately uncover an intricate web of relations with such diverse combinatorial structures as submonoids, monads, Moore systems, transfer systems (from stable equivariant homotopy theory), and poly-Bernoulli numbers.

The distribution of the length of the longest path in random acyclic orientations of a complete bipartite graph
Randomly sampling an acyclic orientation on the complete bipartite graph $K_{n,k}$ with parts of size $n$ and $k$, we investigate the length of the longest path. We provide a probability generating function for the distribution of the longest path length, and we use Analytic Combinatorics to perform asymptotic analysis of the probability distribution in the case of equal part sizes $n = k$ tending toward infinity. We show that the distribution is asymptotically Gaussian, and we obtain precise asymptotics for the mean and variance. These results address a question asked by Peter J. Cameron. Keywords: bipartite graph, directed graph, random graph, acyclic orientation, poly-Bernoulli numbers, lonesum matrices, generating function, analytic combinatorics, asymptotics.
Recurrences for values of the Hurwitz type poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials
The main object of this paper is to investigate a new class of the generalized Hurwitz type poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials from which we derive some algorithms for evaluating the Hurwitz type poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials. By introducing a new generalization of the Stirling numbers of the second kind, we succeed to establish some combinatorial formulas for the generalized Hurwitz type poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials with negative upper indices. Moreover, we give a connection between the generalized Stirling numbers of the second kind and graph theory.

On bi-variate poly-Bernoulli polynomials
Published in Communications in Mathematics, Volume 31 (2023), Issue 1 (November 22, 2022) cm:10327 • View PublicationBIB
We introduce poly-Bernoulli polynomials in two variables by using a generalization of Stirling numbers of the second kind that we studied in a previous work. We prove the bi-variate poly-Bernoulli polynomial version of some known results on standard Bernoulli polynomials, as the addition formula and the binomial formula. We also prove a result that allows us to obtain poly-Bernoulli polynomial identities from polynomial identities, and we use this result to obtain several identities involving products of poly-Bernoulli and/or standard Bernoulli polynomials. We prove two generalized recurrences for bi-variate poly-Bernoulli polynomials, and obtain some corollaries from them.

Remarkable relations between the central binomial series, Eulerian polynomials, and poly-Bernoulli numbers
The central binomial series at negative integers are expressed as a linear combination of values of certain two polynomials. We show that one of the polynomials is a special value of the bivariate Eulerian polynomial and the other polynomial is related to the antidiagonal sum of poly-Bernoulli numbers. As an application, we prove Stephan's observation from 2004.
Bijective enumerations for symmetrized poly-Bernoulli polynomials
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, Bényi and the second author introduced two combinatorial interpretations for symmetrized poly-Bernoulli polynomials. In the present study, we construct bijections between these combinatorial objects. We also define various combinatorial polynomials and prove that all of these polynomials coincide with symmetrized poly-Bernoulli polynomials.

Combinatorial aspects of poly-Bernoulli polynomials and poly-Euler numbers
In this article, we introduce combinatorial models for poly-Bernoulli polynomials and poly-Euler numbers of both kinds. As their applications, we provide combinatorial proofs of some identities involving poly-Bernoulli polynomials.

Toppling on permutations with an extra chip
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, Vol 28 no. 4, (2021), P4.18 • View PublicationBIB
The study of toppling on permutations with an extra labeled chip was initiated by the first author with D. Hathcock and P. Tetali (arXiv:2010.11236), where the extra chip was added in the middle. We extend this to all possible locations $p$ as well as values $r$ of the extra chip and give a complete characterization of permutations which topple to the identity. Further, we classify all permutations which are outcomes of the toppling process in this generality, which we call resultant permutations. Resultant permutations turn out to be certain decomposable permutations. The number of configurations toppling to a given resultant permutation is shown to depend purely on the number of left-to-right maxima (or records) of the permutation to the left of $n-p$ and the number of right-to-left minima to the right of $n-p$. The number of permutations toppling to a given resultant permutation (identity or otherwise) is shown to be the binomial transform of a poly-Bernoulli number of type B.

Stirling numbers with level $2$ and poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we introduce poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$, related to the Stirling numbers of the second kind with level $2$, and study several properties of poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ from their expressions, relations, and congruences. Poly-Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ have strong connections with poly-Cauchy numbers with level $2$. In a special case, we can determine the denominators of Bernoulli numbers with level $2$ by showing a von Staudt-Clausen like theorem.

Higher Order Apostol-Type Poly-Genocchi Polynomials with Parameters a, b and c
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, a new form of poly-Genocchi polynomials is defined by means of poly-logarithm, namely, the Apostol-type poly-Genocchi polynomials of higher order with parameters a, b and c. Several properties of these polynomials are established including some recurrence relations and explicit formulas, which express these higher order Apostol-type poly-Genocchi polynomials in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind, Apostol-type Bernoulli and Frobenius polynomials of higher order. Moreover, certain differential identity is obtained that leads this new form of poly-Genocchi polynomials to be classified as Appell polynomials and, consequently, draw more properties using some theorems on Appell polynomials. Furthermore, a symmetrized generalization of this new form of poly-Genocchi polynomials is introduced that possesses a double generating function. Finally, the type 2 Apostol-poly-Genocchi polynomials with parameters a, b and c are defined using the concept of polyexponential function and several identities are derived, two of which show the connections of these polynomials with Stirling numbers of the first kind and the type 2 Apostol-type poly-Bernoulli polynomials.

Symmetrized poly-Bernoulli numbers and combinatorics
Poly-Bernoulli numbers are one of generalizations of the classical Bernoulli numbers. Since a negative index poly-Bernoulli number is an integer, it is an interesting problem to study this number from combinatorial viewpoint. In this short article, we give a new combinatorial relation between symmetrized poly-Bernoulli numbers and the Dumont-Foata polynomials.

Asymptotic enumeration of lonesum matrices
Published • View PublicationBIB
We provide bivariate asymptotics for the poly-Bernoulli numbers, a combinatorial array that enumerates lonesum matrices, using the methods of Analytic Combinatorics in Several Variables (ACSV). For the diagonal asymptotic (i.e., for the special case of square lonesum matrices) we present an alternative proof based on Parseval's identity. In addition, we provide an application in Algebraic Statistics on the asymptotic ML-degree of the bivariate multinomial missing data problem, and we strengthen an existing result on asymptotic enumeration of permutations having a specified excedance set.

On $q$-poly-Bernoulli numbers arising from combinatorial interpretations

Restricted $r$-Stirling Numbers and their Combinatorial Applications
We study set partitions with $r$ distinguished elements and block sizes found in an arbitrary index set $S$. The enumeration of these $(S,r)$-partitions leads to the introduction of $(S,r)$-Stirling numbers, an extremely wide-ranging generalization of the classical Stirling numbers and the $r$-Stirling numbers. We also introduce the associated $(S,r)$-Bell and $(S,r)$-factorial numbers. We study fundamental aspects of these numbers, including recurrence relations and determinantal expressions. For $S$ with some extra structure, we show that the inverse of the $(S,r)$-Stirling matrix encodes the Möbius functions of two families of posets. Through several examples, we demonstrate that for some $S$ the matrices and their inverses involve the enumeration sequences of several combinatorial objects. Further, we highlight how the $(S,r)$-Stirling numbers naturally arise in the enumeration of cliques and acyclic orientations of special graphs, underlining their ubiquity and importance. Finally, we introduce related $(S,r)$ generalizations of the poly-Bernoulli and poly-Cauchy numbers, uniting many past works on generalized combinatorial sequences.

Restricted lonesum matrices
Lonesum matrices are matrices that are uniquely reconstructible from their row and column sum vectors. These matrices are enumerated by the poly-Bernoulli numbers that are related to the multiple zeta values and have a rich literature in number theory. Combinatorially, lonesum matrices are in bijection with many other combinatorial objects: several permutation classes, other matrix classes, acyclic orientations in graphs etc. Motivated of these facts, we study in this paper lonesum matrices with restriction on the number of columns and rows of the same type.
