The $K$-homology ring of the affine Grassmannian of $SL_n(C)$ was studied by Lam, Schilling, and Shimozono. It is realized as a certain concrete Hopf subring of the ring of symmetric functions. On the other hand, for the quantum $K$-theory of the flag variety $Fl_n$, Kirillov and Maeno provided a conjectural presentation based on the results obtained by Givental and Lee. We construct an explicit birational morphism between the spectrums of these two rings. Our method relies on Ruijsenaars's relativistic Toda lattice with unipotent initial condition. From this result, we obtain a $K$-theory analogue of the so-called Peterson isomorphism for (co)homology. We provide a conjecture on the detailed relationship between the Schubert bases, and, in particular, we determine the image of Lenart--Maeno's quantum Grothendieck polynomial associated with a Grassmannian permutation.

In this paper, we compute the expectation of traces of powers of the hermitian matrix Jacobi process for a large enough but fixed size. To proceed, we first derive the semi-group density of its eigenvalues process as a bilinear series of symmetric Jacobi polynomials. Next, we use the expansion of power sums in the Schur polynomial basis and the integral Cauchy-Binet formula in order to determine the partitions having non zero contributions after integration. It turns out that these are hooks of bounded weight and the sought expectation results from the integral of a product of two Schur functions with respect to a generalized Beta distribution. For special values of the parameters on which the matrix Jacobi process depends, the last integral reduces to the Cauchy determinant and we close the paper with the investigation of the asymptotic behavior of the resulting formula as the matrix size tends to infinity.

Critical ideals generalize the critical group, Smith group and the characteristic polynomials of the adjacency and Laplacian matrices of a graph. We give a complete characterization of the digraphs with at most one trivial critical ideal. Which implies the characterizations of the digraphs whose critical group has one invariant factor equal to one, and the digraphs whose Smith group has one invariant factor equal to one.

Let $\mathbb{F}_p$ be the finite field of prime order $p$. For any function $f \colon \mathbb{F}_p{}^n \to \mathbb{F}_p$, there exists a unique polynomial over $\mathbb{F}_p$ having degree at most $p-1$ with respect to each variable which coincides with $f$. We call it the minimal polynomial of $f$. It is in general a non-trivial task to find a concrete expression of the minimal polynomial of a given function, which has only been worked out for limited classes of functions in the literature. In this paper, we study minimal polynomial expressions of several functions that are closely related to some practically important procedures such as auction and voting.
The Tropical Superpotential For $\mathbb{P}^2$

We present an extended worked example of the computation of the tropical superpotential considered by Carl--Pumperla--Siebert. In particular we consider an affine manifold associated to the complement of a non-singular genus one plane curve, and calculate the wall and chamber decomposition determined by the Gross--Siebert algorithm. Using the results of Carl--Pumperla--Siebert we determine the tropical superpotential, via broken line counts, in every chamber of this decomposition. The superpotential defines a Laurent polynomial in every chamber, which we demonstrate to be identical to the Laurent polynomials predicted by Coates--Corti--Galkin--Golyshev--Kaspzryk to be mirror to $\mathbb{P}^2$.

We consider a family of I-graphs I(n,k,l), which is a generalization of the class of generalized Petersen graphs. In the present paper, we provide a new method for counting Jacobian group of the I-graph I(n,k,l). We show that the minimum number of generators of Jac(I(n,k,l)) is at least two and at most 2k + 2l - 1. Also, we obtain a closed formula for the number of spanning trees of I(n,k,l) in terms of Chebyshev polynomials. We investigate some arithmetical properties of this number and its asymptotic behaviour.
Decomposition techniques applied to the Clique-Stable set Separation problem

In a graph, a Clique-Stable Set separator (CS-separator) is a family $\mathcal{C}$ of cuts (bipartitions of the vertex set) such that for every clique $K$ and every stable set $S$ with $K \cap S = \emptyset$, there exists a cut $( W,W')$ in $\mathcal{C}$ such that $K \subseteq W$ and $S \subseteq W'$. Starting from a question concerning extended formulations of the Stable Set polytope and a related complexity communication problem, Yannakakis [17] asked in 1991 the following questions: does every graph admit a polynomial-size CS-separator? If not, does every perfect graph do? Several positive and negative results related to this question were given recently. Here we show how graph decomposition can be used to prove that a class of graphs admits a polynomial CS-separator. We apply this method to apple-free graphs and cap-free graphs.

Gottschalk and Vygen proved that every solution of the subtour elimination linear program for traveling salesman paths is a convex combination of more and more restrictive "generalized Gao-trees". We give a short proof of this fact, as a layered convex combination of bases of a sequence of increasingly restrictive matroids. A strongly polynomial, combinatorial algorithm follows for finding this convex combination, which is a new tool offering polyhedral insight, already instrumental in recent results for the $s-t$ path TSP.
Motzkin Numbers: an Operational Point of View
The Motzkin numbers can be derived as coefficients of hybrid polynomials. Such an identification allows the derivation of new identities for this family of numbers and offers a tool to investigate previously unnoticed links with the theory of special functions and with the relevant treatment in terms of operational means. The use of umbral methods opens new directions for further developments and generalizations, which leads, e.g., to the identification of new Motzkin associated forms.

We consider a group-theoretic analogue of the classic subset sum problem. It is known that every virtually nilpotent group has polynomial time decidable subset sum problem. In this paper we use subgroup distortion to show that every polycyclic non-virtually-nilpotent group has NP-complete subset sum problem.

We give an explicit combinatorial formula for the Schur expansion of Macdonald polynomials indexed by partitions with second part at most two. This gives a uniform formula for both hook and two column partitions. The proof comes as a corollary to the result that generalized dual equivalence classes of permutations are unions of standard dual equivalence classes of permutations for certain cases, establishing an earlier conjecture of the author.
Discrete Invariants of Generically Inconsistent Systems of Laurent Polynomials
Let $ \mathcal{A}_1, \ldots, \mathcal{A}_k $ be finite sets in $ \mathbb{Z}^n $ and let $ Y \subset (\mathbb{C}^*)^n $ be an algebraic variety defined by a system of equations \[ f_1 = \ldots = f_k = 0, \] where $ f_1, \ldots, f_k $ are Laurent polynomials with supports in $\mathcal{A}_1, \ldots, \mathcal{A}_k$. Assuming that $ f_1, \ldots, f_k $ are sufficiently generic, the Newton polyhedron theory computes discrete invariants of $ Y $ in terms of the Newton polyhedra of $ f_1, \ldots, f_k $. It may appear that the generic system with fixed supports $ \mathcal{A}_1, \ldots, \mathcal{A}_k $ is inconsistent. In this paper, we compute discrete invariants of algebraic varieties defined by system of equations which are generic in the set of consistent system with support in $\mathcal{A}_1, \ldots, \mathcal{A}_k$ by reducing the question to the Newton polyhedra theory. Unlike the classical situation, not only the Newton polyhedra of $f_1,\dots,f_k$, but also the supports $\mathcal{A}_1, \ldots, \mathcal{A}_k$ themselves appear in the answers.

In this paper we explore a relationship between the topology of the complex hyperplane complements $\mathcal{M}_{BC_n} (\mathbb{C})$ in type B/C and the combinatorics of certain spaces of degree-$n$ polynomials over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$. This relationship is a consequence of the Grothendieck trace formula and work of Lehrer and Kim. We use it to prove a correspondence between a representation-theoretic convergence result on the cohomology algebras $H^*(\mathcal{M}_{BC_n} (\mathbb{C});\mathbb{C})$, and an asymptotic stability result for certain polynomial statistics on monic squarefree polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q$ with nonzero constant term. This result is the type B/C analogue of a theorem due to Church, Ellenberg, and Farb in type A, and we include a new proof of their theorem. To establish these convergence results, we realize the sequences of cohomology algebras of the hyperplane complements as FI$_\mathcal{W}$-algebras finitely generated in FI$_\mathcal{W}$- degree $2$, and we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of general families of algebras with this structure. We prove a negative result implying that this structure alone is not sufficient to prove the necessary convergence conditions. Our proof of convergence for the cohomology algebras involves the combinatorics of their relators.

Given the complement of a hyperplane arrangement, let $Γ$ be the closure of the graph of the map inverting each of its defining linear forms. The characteristic polynomial manifests itself in the Hilbert series of $Γ$ in two different-seeming ways, one due to Orlik and Terao and the other to Huh and Katz. We define an extension of the no broken circuit complex of a matroid and use it to give a direct Gröbner basis argument that the polynomials extracted from the Hilbert series in these two ways agree.

Hurwitz numbers count genus $g$, degree $d$ covers of the complex projective line with fixed branched locus and fixed ramification data. An equivalent description is given by factorisations in the symmetric group. Simple double Hurwitz numbers are a class of Hurwitz-type counts of specific interest. In recent years a related counting problem in the context of random matrix theory was introduced as so-called monotone Hurwitz numbers. These can be viewed as a desymmetrised version of the Hurwitz-problem. A combinatorial interpolation between simple and monotone double Hurwitz numbers was introduced as mixed double Hurwitz numbers and it was proved that these objects are piecewise polynomial in a certain sense. Moreover, the notion of strictly monotone Hurwitz numbers has risen interest as it is equivalent to a certain Grothendieck dessins d'enfant count. In this paper, we introduce a combinatorial interpolation between simple, monotone and strictly monotone double Hurwitz numbers as \textit{triply interpolated Hurwitz numbers}. Our aim is twofold: Using a connection between triply interpolated Hurwitz numbers and tropical covers in terms of so-called monodromy graphs, we give algorithms to compute the polynomials for triply interpolated Hurwitz numbers in all genera using Erhart theory. We further use this approach to study the wall-crossing behaviour of triply interpolated Hurwitz numbers in genus $0$ in terms of related Hurwitz-type counts. All those results specialise to the extremal cases of simple, monotone and Grothendieck dessins d'enfants Hurwitz numbers.
One more remark on the adjoint polynomial

The adjoint polynomial of $G$ is \[h(G,x)=\sum_{k=1}^n(-1)^{n-k}a_k(G)x^k,\] where $a_k(G)$ denotes the number of ways one can cover all vertices of the graph $G$ by exactly $k$ disjoint cliques of $G$. In this paper we show the the adjoint polynomial of a graph $G$ is a simple transformation of the independence polynomial of another graph $\widehat{G}$. This enables us to use the rich theory of independence polynomials to study the adjoint polynomials. In particular we a give new proofs of several theorems of R. Liu and P. Csikvári.
On Combinatorial Properties of Points and Polynomial Curves
Many combinatorial properties of a point set in the plane are determined by the set of possible partitions of the point set by a line. Their essential combinatorial properties are well captured by the axioms of oriented matroids. In fact, Goodman and Pollack (Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, Volume 37, pp. 257-293, 1984) proved that the axioms of oriented matroids of rank $3$ completely characterize the sets of possible partitions arising from a natural topological generalization of configurations of points and lines. In this paper, we introduce a new class of oriented matroids, called degree-$k$ oriented matroids, which captures essential combinatorial properties of the possible partitions of point sets in the plane by the graphs of polynomial functions of degree $k$. We prove that the axiom of degree-$k$ oriented matroids completely characterizes the sets of possible partitions arising from a natural topological generalization of configurations formed by points and the graphs of polynomial functions degree $k$. It turns out that the axiom of degree-$k$ oriented matroids coincides with the axiom of ($k+2$)-signotopes, which was introduced by Felsner and Weil (Discrete Applied Mathematics, Volume 109, pp. 67-94, 2001) in a completely different context. Our result gives a two-dimensional geometric interpretation for ($k+2$)-signotopes and also for single element extensions of cyclic hyperplane arrangements in $\mathbb{R}^{n-k-3}$.
On trees with real rooted independence polynomial

The independence polynomial of a graph $G$ is \[I(G,x)=\sum\limits_{k\ge 0}i_k(G)x^k,\] where $i_k(G)$ denotes the number of independent sets of $G$ of size $k$ (note that $i_0(G)=1$). In this paper we show a new method to prove real-rootedness of the independence polynomials of certain families of trees.
In particular we will give a new proof of the real-rootedness of the independence polynomials of centipedes (Zhu's theorem), caterpillars (Wang and Zhu's theorem), and we will prove a conjecture of Galvin and Hilyard about the real-rootedness of the independence polynomial of the so-called Fibonacci trees.

Reflexive polytopes form one of the distinguished classes of lattice polytopes. Especially reflexive polytopes which possess the integer decomposition property are of interest. In the present paper, by virtue of the algebraic technique on Grönbner bases, a new class of reflexive polytopes which possess the integer decomposition property and which arise from perfect graphs will be presented. Furthermore, the Ehrhart $δ$-polynomials of these polytopes will be studied.

We study the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials specialized at infinity from various points of view. First, we define a family of modules of the Iwahori algebra whose characters are equal to the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials specialized at infinity. Second, we show that these modules are isomorphic to the dual spaces of sections of certain sheaves on the semi-infinite Schubert varieties. Third, we prove that the global versions of these modules are homologically dual to the level one affine Demazure modules.
