Through symbolic methods, we state explicit formulae for Tchebychev, Gegenbauer, Meixner, Mittlag-Leffler, and Pidduck polynomials. This is done by underlining the crucial role played by the Abel identity in revisiting the Lagrange inversion formula and the theory of the Riordan arrays.
Eulerian polynomials as moments, via exponential Riordan arrays
Using the theory of exponential Riordan arrays and orthogonal polynomials, we demonstrate that the "descending power" Eulerian polynomials, and their once shifted sequence, are moment sequences for simple families of orthogonal polynomials, which we characterize in terms of their three-term recurrence. We obtain the generating functions of the polynomial sequences in terms of continued fractions, and we also calculate their Hankel transforms.
Combinatorial polynomials as moments, Hankel transforms and exponential Riordan arrays
In the case of two combinatorial polynomials, we show that they can exhibited as moments of paramaterized families of orthogonal polynomials, and hence derive their Hankel transforms. Exponential Riordan arrays are the main vehicles used for this.
Riordan arrays and applications via the classical umbral calculus
We use the classical umbral calculus to describe Riordan arrays. Here, a Riordan array is generated by a pair of umbrae, and this provides efficient proofs of several basic results of the theory such as the multiplication rule, the recursive properties, the fundamental theorem and the connection with Sheffer sequences. In particular, we show that the fundamental theorem turns out to be a reformulation of the umbral Abel identity. As an application, we give an elementary approach to the problem of extending integer powers of Riordan arrays to complex powers in such a way that additivity of the exponents is preserved. Also, ordinary Riordan arrays are studied within the classical umbral perspective and some combinatorial identities are discussed regarding Catalan numbers, Fibonacci numbers and Chebyshev polynomials.
Riordan arrays, orthogonal polynomials as moments, and Hankel transforms
Taking the examples of Legendre and Hermite orthogonal polynomials, we show how to interpret the fact that these orthogonal polynomials are moments of other orthogonal polynomials in terms of their associated Riordan arrays. We use these means to calculate the Hankel transforms of the associated polynomial sequences.

We examine a result of Basor and Ehrhardt concerning Hankel and Toeplitz plus Hankel matrices, within the context of the Riordan group of lower-triangular matrices. This allows us to determine the LDU decomposition of certain symmetric Toeplitz plus Hankel matrices. We also determine the generating functions and Hankel transforms of associated sequences.

We point out how Banach Fixed Point Theorem, and the Picard successive approximation methods induced by it, allows us to treat some mathematical methods in Combinatorics. In particular we get, by this way, a proof and an iterative algorithm for the Lagrange Inversion Formula.
The Riordan Group and Symmetric Lattice Paths
In this paper, we study symmetric lattice paths. Let $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ denote the number of symmetric Dyck paths, symmetric Motzkin paths, and symmetric Schröder paths of length $2n$, respectively. By using Riordan group methods we obtain six identities relating $d_{n}$, $m_{n}$, and $s_{n}$ and also give two of them combinatorial proofs. Finally, we investigate some relations satisfied by the generic element of some special Riordan arrays and get the average mid-height and the average number of points on the x-axis of symmetric Dyck paths of length $2n.$

We consider an identity relating Fibonacci numbers to Pascal's triangle discovered by G. E. Andrews. Several authors provided proofs of this identity, most of them rather involved or else relying on sophisticated number theoretical arguments. We present a new proof, quite simple and based on a Riordan array argument. The main point of the proof is the construction of a new Riordan array from a given Riordan array, by the elimination of elements. We extend the method and as an application we obtain other identities, some of which are new. An important feature of our construction is that it establishes a nice connection between the generating function of the $A-$sequence of a certain class of Riordan arrays and hypergeometric functions.

We translate the concept of succession rule and the ECO method into matrix notation, introducing the concept of a production matrix. This allows us to combine our method with other enumeration techniques using matrices, such as the method of Riordan matrices. Finally we treat the case of rational production matrices, i.e. those leading to rational generating functions.
Simple closed form Hankel transforms based on the central coefficients of certain Pascal-like triangles
We study the Hankel transforms of sequences related to the central coefficients of a family of Pascal-like triangles. The mechanism of Riordan arrays is used to elucidate the structure of these transforms.

We give a combinatorial interpretation of a matrix identity on Catalan numbers and the sequence $(1, 4, 4^2, 4^3, ...)$ which has been derived by Shapiro, Woan and Getu by using Riordan arrays. By giving a bijection between weighted partial Motzkin paths with an elevation line and weighted free Motzkin paths, we find a matrix identity on the number of weighted Motzkin paths and the sequence $(1, k, k^2, k^3, ...)$ for any $k \geq 2$. By extending this argument to partial Motzkin paths with multiple elevation lines, we give a combinatorial proof of an identity recently obtained by Cameron and Nkwanta. A matrix identity on colored Dyck paths is also given, leading to a matrix identity for the sequence $(1, t^2+t, (t^2+t)^2, ...)$.
