We introduce an algorithmic approach based on generating tree method for enumerating the inversion sequences with various pattern-avoidance restrictions. For a given set of patterns, we propose an algorithm that outputs either an accurate description of the succession rules of the corresponding generating tree or an ansatz. By using this approach, we determine the generating trees for the pattern-classes $I_n(000, 021), I_n(100, 021)$, $I_n(110, 021), I_n(102, 021)$, $I_n(100,012)$, $I_n(011,201)$, $I_n(011,210)$ and $I_n(120,210)$. Then we use the kernel method, obtain generating functions of each class, and find enumerating formulas. Lin and Yan studied the classification of the Wilf-equivalences for inversion sequences avoiding pairs of length-three patterns and showed that there are 48 Wilf classes among 78 pairs. In this paper, we solve six open cases for such pattern classes.
On Success runs of a fixed length defined on a $q$-sequence of binary trials
We study the exact distributions of runs of a fixed length in variation which considers binary trials for which the probability of ones is geometrically varying. The random variable $E_{n,k}$ denote the number of success runs of a fixed length $k$, $1\leq k \leq n$.
Theorem 3.1 gives an closed expression for the probability mass function (PMF) of the Type4 $q$-binomial distribution of order $k$. Theorem 3.2 and Corollary 3.1 gives an recursive expression for the probability mass function (PMF) of the Type4 $q$-binomial distribution of order $k$. The probability generating function and moments of random variable $E_{n,k}$ are obtained as a recursive expression. We address the parameter estimation in the distribution of $E_{n,k}$ by numerical techniques. In the present work, we consider a sequence of independent binary zero and one trials with not necessarily identical distribution with the probability of ones varying according to a geometric rule. Exact and recursive formulae for the distribution obtained by means of enumerative combinatorics.
Embedding into Special Classes of Cyclic Graphs and its Applications in VLSI Layout
Graph embedding is the major technique which is used to map guest graph into host graph. In architecture simulation, graph embedding is said to be one of the strongest application for the execution of parallel algorithm and simulation of various interconnection networks \cite{Pa99}. In this paper, we have embedded circulant networks into star of cycle and folded hypercube into cycle-of-ladders and compute its exact wirelength. Further we have discussed the embedding parameters in VLSI Layout.
Almost perfect linear Lee codes of packing radius 2 only exist for small dimensions

It is conjectured by Golomb and Welch around half a century ago that there is no perfect Lee codes $C$ of packing radius $r$ in $\mathbb{Z}^{n}$ for $r\geq2$ and $n\geq 3$. Recently, Leung and the second author proved this conjecture for linear Lee codes with $r=2$. A natural question is whether it is possible to classify the second best, i.e., almost perfect linear Lee codes of packing radius $2$. We show that if such codes exist in $\mathbb{Z}^n$, then $n$ must be $1,2, 11, 29, 47, 56, 67, 79, 104, 121, 134$ or $191$.
Locally irregular edge-coloring of subcubic graphs

A graph is {\em locally irregular} if no two adjacent vertices have the same degree. A {\em locally irregular edge-coloring} of a graph $G$ is such an (improper) edge-coloring that the edges of any fixed color induce a locally irregular graph. Among the graphs admitting a locally irregular edge-coloring, i.e., {\em decomposable graphs}, only one is known to require $4$ colors, while for all the others it is believed that $3$ colors suffice. In this paper, we prove that decomposable claw-free graphs with maximum degree $3$, all cycle permutation graphs, and all generalized Petersen graphs admit a locally irregular edge-coloring with at most $3$ colors. We also discuss when $2$ colors suffice for a locally irregular edge-coloring of cubic graphs and present an infinite family of cubic graphs of girth $4$ which require $3$ colors.
Optimal Strategies for Static Black-Peg AB Game With Two and Three Pegs
The AB~Game is a game similar to the popular game Mastermind. We study a version of this game called Static Black-Peg AB~Game. It is played by two players, the codemaker and the codebreaker. The codemaker creates a so-called secret by placing a color from a set of $c$ colors on each of $p \le c$ pegs, subject to the condition that every color is used at most once. The codebreaker tries to determine the secret by asking questions, where all questions are given at once and each question is a possible secret. As an answer the codemaker reveals the number of correctly placed colors for each of the questions. After that, the codebreaker only has one more try to determine the secret and thus to win the game.
For given $p$ and $c$, our goal is to find the smallest number $k$ of questions the codebreaker needs to win, regardless of the secret, and the corresponding list of questions, called a $(k+1)$-strategy. We present a $\lceil 4c/3 \rceil-1)$-strategy for $p=2$ for all $c \ge 2$, and a $\lfloor (3c-1)/2 \rfloor$-strategy for $p=3$ for all $c \ge 4$ and show the optimality of both strategies, i.e., we prove that no $(k+1)$-strategy for a smaller $k$ exists.
Minimum Spanning Trees with Bounded Degrees of Vertices in a Specified Stable Set
Given a graph $G$ and sets $\{α_v~|~v \in V(G)\}$ and $\{β_v~|~v \in V(G)\}$ of non-negative integers, it is known that the decision problem whether $G$ contains a spanning tree $T$ such that $α_v \le d_T (v) \le β_v $ for all $v \in V(G)$ is $NP$-complete. In this article, we relax the problem by demanding that the degree restrictions apply to vertices $v\in U$ only, where $U$ is a stable set of $G$. In this case, the problem becomes tractable.
A. Frank presented a result characterizing the positive instances of that relaxed problem. Using matroid intersection developed by J. Edmonds, we give a new and short proof of Frank's result and show that if $U$ is stable and the edges of $G$ are weighted by arbitrary real numbers, then even a minimum-cost tree $T$ with $α_v \le d_T (v) \le β_v $ for all $v \in U$ can be found in polynomial time if such a tree exists.
The chromatic number of ($P_{5}, K_{5}-e$)-free graphs
Let $G$ be a graph. We use $χ(G)$ and $ω(G)$ to denote the chromatic number and clique number of $G$ respectively. A $P_5$ is a path on 5 vertices. A family of graphs $\mathcal{G}$ is said to be {\it$χ$-bounded} if there exists some function $f$ such that $χ(G)\leq f(ω(G))$ for every $G\in\mathcal{G}$. In this paper, we show that the family of $(P_5, K_5-e)$-free graphs is $χ$-bounded by a linear function: $χ(G)\leq \max\{13,ω(G)+1\}$.
On graphs that contain exactly k copies of a subgraph, and a related problem in search theory

We study $\mathrm{exa}_k(n,F)$, the largest number of edges in an $n$-vertex graph $G$ that contains exactly $k$ copies of a given subgraph $F$. The case $k=0$ is the Turán number $\mathrm{ex}(n,F)$ that is among the most studied parameters in extremal graph theory. We show that for any $F$ and $k$, $\mathrm{exa}_k(n,F)=(1+o(1))\mathrm{ex}(n,F))$ and determine the exact values of $\mathrm{exa}_k(n,K_3)$ and $\mathrm{exa}_1(n,K_r)$ for $n$ large enough. We also explore a connection to the following well-known problem in search theory. We are given a graph of order $n$ that consists of an unknown copy of $F$ and some isolated vertices. We can ask pairs of vertices as queries, and the answer tells us whether there is an edge between those vertices. Our goal is to describe the graph using as few queries as possible. Aigner and Triesch in 1990 showed that the number of queries needed is at least $\binom{n}{2}-\mathrm{exa}_1(n,F)$. Among other results we show that the number of queries that were answered NO is at least $\binom{n}{2}-\mathrm{exa}_1(n,F)$.
Revan-degree indices on random graphs
Given a simple connected non-directed graph $G=(V(G),E(G))$, we consider two families of graph invariants: $RX_Σ(G) = \sum_{uv \in E(G)} F(r_u,r_v)$ (which has gained interest recently) and $RX_Π(G) = \prod_{uv \in E(G)} F(r_u,r_v)$ (that we introduce in this work); where $uv$ denotes the edge of $G$ connecting the vertices $u$ and $v$, $r_u$ is the Revan degree of the vertex $u$, and $F$ is a function of the Revan vertex degrees. Here, $r_u = Δ+ δ- d_u$ with $Δ$ and $δ$ the maximum and minimum degrees among the vertices of $G$ and $d_u$ is the degree of the vertex $u$. Particularly, we apply both $RX_Σ(G)$ and R$X_Π(G)$ on two models of random graphs: Erdös-Rényi graphs and random geometric graphs. By a thorough computational study we show that $\left< RX_Σ(G) \right>$ and $\left< \ln RX_Π(G) \right>$, normalized to the order of the graph, scale with the average Revan degree $\left< r \right>$; here $\left< \cdot \right>$ denotes the average over an ensemble of random graphs. Moreover, we provide analytical expressions for several graph invariants of both families in the dense graph limit.
Braid variety cluster structures, I: 3D plabic graphs
We introduce $3$-dimensional generalizations of Postnikov's plabic graphs and use them to establish cluster structures for type $A$ braid varieties. Our results include known cluster structures on open positroid varieties and double Bruhat cells, and establish new cluster structures for type $A$ open Richardson varieties.

We study a lower bound for the constant of the Szemerédi-Trotter theorem. In particular, we show that a recent infinite family of point-line configurations satisfies $I({\mathcal P},{\mathcal L})\ge (c+o(1)) |{\mathcal P}|^{2/3}|{\mathcal L}|^{2/3}$, with $c\approx 1.27$. Our technique is based on studying a variety of properties of Euler's totient function. We also improve the current best constant for Elekes's construction from 1 to about 1.27. From an expository perspective, this is the first full analysis of the constant of Erd\H os's construction.

Let $K_p$ be a complete graph of order $p\geq 2$. A $K_p$-free $k$-coloring of a graph $H$ is a partition of $V(H)$ into $V_1, V_2\ldots,V_k$ such that $H[V_i]$ does not contain $K_p$ for each $i\leq k $. In 1977 Borodin and Kostochka conjectured that any graph $H$ with maximum degree $Δ(H)\geq 9$ and without $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph has chromatic number at most $Δ(H)-1$. As analogue of the Borodin-Kostochka conjecture, we prove that if $p_1\geq \cdots\geq p_k\geq 2$, $p_1+p_2\geq 7$, $\sum_{i=1}^kp_i=Δ(H)-1+k$, and $H$ does not contain $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph, then there is a partition of $V(H)$ into $V_1,\ldots,V_k$ such that for each $i$, $H[V_i]$ does not contain $K_{p_i}$. In particular, if $p\geq 4$ and $H$ does not contain $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph, then $H$ admits a $K_p$-free $\lceil{Δ(H)-1\over p-1}\rceil$-coloring. Catlin showed that every connected non-complete graph $H$ with $Δ(H)\geq 3$ has a $Δ(H)$-coloring such that one of the color classes is maximum $K_2$-free subset (maximum independent set). In this regard, we show that there is a partition of vertices of $H$ into $V_1$ and $V_2$ such that $H[V_1]$ does not contain $K_{p}$, $H[V_2]$ does not contain $K_{q}$, and $V_1$ is a maximum $K_p$-free subset of V(H) if $p\geq 4$, $q\geq 3$, $p+q=Δ(H)+1$, and its clique number $ω(H)=p$.
A bijection between vertices of rank 1 in increasing trees and derangements
We give a combinatorial proof of a recent result of Bóna by constructing a bijection from the set of all neighbors of leaves of increasing trees of size $n$ to the set of derangements of length $n$.

A graph that can be generated from $K_1$ using joins and 0-sums is called a cograph. We define a sesquicograph to be a graph that can be generated from $K_1$ using joins, 0-sums, and 1-sums. We show that, like cographs, sesquicographs are closed under induced minors. Cographs are precisely the graphs that do not have the 4-vertex path as an induced subgraph. We obtain an analogue of this result for sesquicographs, that is, we find those non-sesquicographs for which every proper induced subgraph is a sesquicograph.
Regular graphs with a complete bipartite graph as a star complement
Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$ and $μ$ be an adjacency eigenvalue of $G$ with multiplicity $k\geq 1$. A star complement $H$ for $μ$ in $G$ is an induced subgraph of $G$ of order $n-k$ with no eigenvalue $μ$, and the vertex subset $X=V(G-H)$ is called a star set for $μ$ in $G$. The study of star complements and star sets provides a strong link between graph structure and linear algebra. In this paper, we study the regular graphs with $K_{t,s}\ (s\geq t\geq 2)$ as a star complement for an eigenvalue $μ$, especially, characterize the case of $t=3$ completely, obtain some properties when $t=s$, and propose some problems for further study.

In this paper, nonzero component graphs and nonzero component union graphs of finite dimensional vector space are studied using the zero-divisor graph of specially constructed 0-1-distributive lattice and the zero-divisor graph of rings. Further, we define an equivalence relation on nonzero component graphs and nonzero component union graphs to deduce that these graphs are the graph join of zero-divisor graphs of Boolean algebras and complete graphs. In the last section, we characterize the perfect and chordal nonzero component graphs and nonzero component union graphs.

We study piecewise-linear and birational lifts of Schützenberger promotion, evacuation, and the RSK correspondence defined in terms of toggles. Using this perspective, we prove that certain chain statistics in rectangles shift predictably under the action of these maps. We then use this to construct piecewise-linear and birational versions of Rubey's bijections between fillings of equivalent moon polyominoes that preserve these chain statistics, and we show that these maps form a commuting diagram. We also discuss how these results imply Ehrhart equivalence and Ehrhart quasi-polynomial period collapse of certain analogues of chain polytopes for moon polyominoes.

We study the Ramsey properties of equations $a_1P(x_1) + \cdots + a_sP(x_s) = b$, where $a_1,\ldots,a_s,b$ are integers, and $P$ is an integer polynomial of degree $d$. Provided there are at least $(1+o(1))d^2$ variables, we show that Rado's criterion and an intersectivity condition completely characterise which equations of this form admit monochromatic solutions with respect to an arbitrary finite colouring of the positive integers. Furthermore, we obtain a Roth-type theorem for these equations, showing that they admit non-constant solutions over any set of integers with positive upper density if and only if $b= a_1 + \cdots + a_s = 0$. In addition, we establish sharp asymptotic lower bounds for the number of monochromatic/dense solutions (supersaturation).
