A standard form for scattered linearized polynomials and properties of the related translation planes

In this paper we present results concerning the stabilizer $G_f$ in $\mathrm{GL}(2,q^n)$ of the subspace $U_f=\{(x,f(x))\colon x\in\mathbb F_{q^n}[x]\}$, $f(x)$ a scattered linearized polynomial in $\mathbb F_{q^n}[x]$. Each $G_f$ contains the $q-1$ maps $(x,y)\mapsto(ax,ay)$, $a\in\mathbb F_{q}^*$. By virtue of the results of Beard (1972) and Willett (1973), the matrices in $G_f$ are simultaneously diagonalizable. This has several consequences: $(i)$ the polynomials such that $|G_f|>q-1$ have a standard form of type $\sum_{j=0}^{n/t-1}a_jx^{q^{s+jt}}$ for some $s$ and $t$ such that $(s,t)=1$, $t>1$ a divisor of $n$; $(ii)$ this standard form is essentially unique; $(iii)$ for $n>2$ and $q>3$, the translation plane $\cal A_f$ associated with $f(x)$ admits nontrivial affine homologies if and only if $|G_f|>q-1$, and in that case those with axis through the origin form two groups of cardinality $(q^t-1)/(q-1)$ that exchange axes and coaxes; $(iv)$ no plane of type $\cal A_f$, $f(x)$ a scattered polynomial not of pseudoregulus type, is a generalized André plane.
Tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order $12p$
A graph is half-arc-transitive if its automorphism group acts transitively on its vertex set, edge set, but not its arc set. In this paper, we study all tetravalent half-arc-transitive graphs of order $12p$.
The zero locus and some combinatorial properties of certain exponential Sheffer sequences

We present combinatorial and analytical results concerning a Sheffer sequence with an exponential generating function of the form $G(s,z)=e^{czs+αz^{2}+βz^{4}}$, where $α, β, c \in \mathbb{R}$ with $β<0$ and $c\neq 0$. We demonstrate that the zeros of all polynomials in such a Sheffer sequence are either real, or purely imaginary. Additionally, using the properties of Riordan matrices we show that our Sheffer sequence satisfies a three-term recurrence relation of order 4, and we also exhibit a connection between the coefficients of these Sheffer polynomials and the number of nodes with a a given label in certain marked generating trees.
Tight bounds towards a conjecture of Gallai

We prove that for $n>k\geq 3$, if $G$ is an $n$-vertex graph with chromatic number $k$ but any its proper subgraph has smaller chromatic number, then $G$ contains at most $n-k+3$ copies of cliques of size $k-1$. This answers a problem of Abbott and Zhou and provides a tight bound on a conjecture of Gallai.

Network Decoding

We consider the problem of error control in a coded, multicast network, focusing on the scenario where the errors can occur only on a proper subset of the network edges. We model this problem via an adversarial noise, presenting a formal framework and a series of techniques to obtain upper and lower bounds on the network's (1-shot) capacity, improving on the best currently known results. In particular, we show that traditional cut-set bounds are not tight in general in the presence of a restricted adversary, and that the non-tightness of these is caused precisely by the restrictions imposed on the noise (and not, as one may expect, by the alphabet size). We also show that, in sharp contrast with the typical situation within network coding, capacity cannot be achieved in general by combining linear network coding with end-to-end channel coding, not even when the underlying network has a single source and a single terminal. We finally illustrate how network decoding techniques are necessary to achieve capacity in the scenarios we examine, exhibiting capacity-achieving schemes and lower bounds for various classes of networks.
An example of Tateno disproving conjectures of Bonato-Tardif, Thomasse, and Tyomkyn

In his 2008 thesis, Tateno claimed a counterexample to the Bonato-Tardif conjecture regarding the number of equimorphy classes of trees. In this paper we revisit Tateno's unpublished ideas to provide a rigorous exposition, constructing locally finite trees having an arbitrary finite number of equimorphy classes; an adaptation provides partial orders with a similar conclusion. At the same time these examples also disprove conjectures by Thomasse and Tyomkyn.
The strong chromatic index of 1-planar graphs

The chromatic index $χ'(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the smallest $k$ for which $G$ admits an edge $k$-coloring such that any two adjacent edges have distinct colors. The strong chromatic index $χ'_s(G)$ of $G$ is the smallest $k$ such that $G$ has an edge $k$-coloring with the condition that any two edges at distance at most 2 receive distinct colors. A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn in the plane so that each edge is crossed by at most one other edge. In this paper, we show that every graph $G$ with maximum average degree $\bar{d}(G)$ has $χ'_{s}(G)\le (2\bar{d}(G)-1)χ'(G)$. As a corollary, we prove that every 1-planar graph $G$ with maximum degree $Δ$ has $χ'_{\rm s}(G)\le 14Δ$, which improves a result, due to Bensmail et al., which says that $χ'_{\rm s}(G)\le 24Δ$ if $Δ\ge 56$.
Left-cut-percolation and induced-Sidorenko bigraphs

A Sidorenko bigraph is one whose density in a bigraphon $W$ is minimized precisely when $W$ is constant. Several techniques of the literature to prove the Sidorenko property consist of decomposing (typically in a tree decomposition) the bigraph into smaller building blocks with stronger properties. One prominent such technique is that of $N$-decompositions of Conlon--Lee, which uses weakly Hölder (or weakly norming) bigraphs as building blocks. In turn, to obtain weakly Hölder bigraphs, it is typical to use the chain of implications reflection bigraph $\implies$ cut-percolating bigraph $\implies$ weakly Hölder bigraph. In an earlier result by the author with Razborov, we provided a generalization of $N$-decompositions, called reflective tree decompositions, that uses much weaker building blocks, called induced-Sidorenko bigraphs, to also obtain Sidorenko bigraphs.
In this paper, we show that "left-sided" versions of the concepts of reflection bigraph and cut-percolating bigraph yield a similar chain of implications: left-reflection bigraph $\implies$ left-cut-percolating bigraph $\implies$ induced-Sidorenko bigraph. We also show that under mild hypotheses, the "left-sided" analogue of the weakly Hölder property (which is also obtained via a similar chain of implications) can be used to improve bounds on another result of Conlon--Lee that roughly says that bigraphs with enough vertices on the right side of each realized degree have the Sidorenko property.

This paper considers a hyperplane arrangement constructed with a subset of a set of all simple paths in a graph. A connection of the constructed arrangement to the maximum matching problem is established. Moreover, the problem of finding the characteristic polynomial is reduced to the case of a connected initial graph. The formula of the characteristic polynomial was also found for the case, when the initial graph is a tree.

In this paper, we first give some sufficient criteria for normality of monomial ideals. As applications, we show that closed neighborhood ideals of complete bipartite graphs are normal, and hence satisfy the (strong) persistence property. We also prove that dominating ideals of complete bipartite graphs are nearly normally torsion-free. In addition, we show that dominating ideals of $h$-wheel graphs, under certain condition, are normal.
Topological aspects of Boolean functions
We discuss ways in which tools from topology can be used to derive lower bounds for the circuit complexity of Boolean functions.
Ramsey-type problems on induced covers and induced partitions toward the Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture

Gyárfás and Sumner independently conjectured that for every tree $T$, there exists a function $f_{T}:\mathbb{N}\rightarrow \mathbb{N}$ such that every $T$-free graph $G$ satisfies $χ(G)\leq f_{T}(ω(G))$, where $χ(G)$ and $ω(G)$ are the {\it chromatic number} and the {\it clique number} of $G$, respectively. This conjecture gives a solution of a Ramsey-type problem on the chromatic number.
For a graph $G$, the {\it induced SP-cover number ${\rm inspc}(G)$} (resp. the {\it induced SP-partition number ${\rm inspp}(G)$}) of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a family $\mathcal{P}$ of induced subgraphs of $G$ such that each element of $\mathcal{P}$ is a star or a path and $\bigcup _{P\in \mathcal{P}}V(P)=V(G)$ (resp. $\dot\bigcup _{P\in \mathcal{P}}V(P)=V(G)$). Such two invariants are directly related concepts to the chromatic number. From the viewpoint of this fact, we focus on Ramsey-type problems for two invariants ${\rm inspc}$ and ${\rm inspp}$, which are analogies of the Gyárfás-Sumner conjecture, and settle them. As a corollary of our results, we also settle other Ramsey-type problems for widely studied invariants.

We give a Coulson integral formula and a Coulson-Jacobs formula for the $p$-Schatten energy. We use this formulas to compare the $p$-Schatten energy of different trees by using a quasiorder, and establish the maximality of paths among all trees.
On Lyndon-Word Representable Graphs
In this short note, we first associate a new simple undirected graph with a given word over an ordered alphabet of $n$-letters. We will call it the Lyndon graph of that word. Then, we introduce the concept of the Lyndon-word representable graph as a graph isomorphic to a Lyndon graph of some word. Then, we introduce the generalized Stirling cycle number $S(N;n,k)$ as the number words of length $N$ with $k$ distinct Lydon words in their Lyndon factorization over an ordered alphabet of $n$-letters . Finally, we conclude the paper with several interesting open questions and conjectures for interested audiences.
On exceptional sets of radial projections
We prove two new exceptional set estimates for radial projections in the plane. If $K \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ is a Borel set with $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} K > 1$, then $$\dim_{\mathrm{H}} \{x \in \mathbb{R}^{2} \, \setminus \, K : \dim_{\mathrm{H}} π_{x}(K) \leq σ\} \leq \max\{1 + σ- \dim_{\mathrm{H}} K,0\}, \qquad σ\in [0,1).$$ If $K \subset \mathbb{R}^{2}$ is a Borel set with $\dim_{\mathrm{H}} K \leq 1$, then $$\dim_{\mathrm{H}} \{x \in \mathbb{R}^{2} \, \setminus \, K : \dim_{\mathrm{H}} π_{x}(K) < \dim_{\mathrm{H}} K\} \leq 1.$$ The finite field counterparts of both results above were recently proven by Lund, Thang, and Huong Thu. Our results resolve the planar cases of conjectures of Lund-Thang-Huong Thu, and Liu.

Turán number $T(n,5,3)$ is the minimum size of a system of triples out of a base set $X$ of $n$ elements such that every quintuple in $X$ contains a triple from the system. The exact values of $T(n,5,3)$ are known for $n \leq 17$. Turán conjectured that $T(2m,5,3) = 2\binom{m}{3}$, and no counterexamples have been found so far. If this conjecture is true, then $T(2m+1,5,3) \geq \lceil m(m-2)(2m+1)/6\rceil$. We prove the matching upper bound for all $n = 2m+1 > 17$ except $n=27$.
Ranking Binary Unlabelled Necklaces in Polynomial Time

Unlabelled Necklaces are an equivalence class of cyclic words under both the rotation (cyclic shift) and the relabelling operations. The relabelling of a word is a bijective mapping from the alphabet to itself. The main result of the paper is the first polynomial-time algorithm for ranking unlabelled necklaces of a binary alphabet. The time-complexity of the algorithm is $O(n^6 \log^2 n)$, where $n$ is the length of the considered necklaces. The key part of the algorithm is to compute the rank of any word with respect to the set of unlabelled necklaces by finding three other ranks: the rank over all necklaces, the rank over symmetric unlabelled necklaces, and the rank over necklaces with an enclosing labelling. The last two concepts are introduced in this paper.
Decompositions of packed words and self duality of Word Quasisymmetric Functions

By Foissy's work, the bidendriform structure of the Word Quasisymmetric Functions Hopf algebra (WQSym) implies that it is isomorphic to its dual. However, the only known explicit isomorphism due to Vargas does not respect the bidendriform structure. This structure is entirely determined by so-called totally primitive elements (elements such that the two half-coproducts vanish). In this paper, we construct two bases indexed by two new combinatorial families called red (dual side) and blue (primal side) biplane forests in bijection with packed words. In those bases, primitive elements are indexed by biplane trees and totally primitive elements by a certain subset of trees. We carefully combine red and blue forests to get bicolored forests. A simple recoloring of the edges allows us to obtain the first explicit bidendriform automorphism of WQSym.

This paper explores the relationship between convexity and sum sets. In particular, we show that elementary number theoretical methods, principally the application of a squeezing principle, can be augmented with the Elekes-Szabó Theorem in order to give new information. Namely, if we let $A \subset \mathbb R$, we prove that there exist $a,a' \in A$ such that \[\left | \frac{(aA+1)^{(2)}(a'A+1)^{(2)}}{(aA+1)^{(2)}(a'A+1)} \right | \gtrsim |A|^{31/12}.\] We are also able to prove that \[ \max \{|A+A-A|, |A^2+A^2-A^2|, |A^3 + A^3 - A^3|\} \gtrsim |A|^{19/12}.\] Both of these bounds are improvements of recent results and takes advantage of computer algebra to tackle some of the computations.
