A Nordhaus-Gaddum-type result is a (tight) lower or upper bound on the sum or product of a parameter of a graph and its complement. In this paper some variations are considered. First, recall their theorem, which gives bounds on the sum and the product of the chromatic number of a graph with that of its complement. In this paper, we provide a new characterization of the other class of graphs.
On a new collection of words in the Catalan family

In this note, we provide a bijection between a new collection of words on nonnegative integers of length n and Dyck paths of length 2n-2, thus proving that this collection belongs to the Catalan family. The surprising key step in this bijection is the zeta map which is an important map in the study of q,t-Catalan numbers. Finally we discuss an alternative approach to this new collection of words using two statistics on planted trees that turn out to be closely related to the Tutte polynomial on the Catalan matroid.
Characteristics of Jaco Graphs, $J_\infty(a), a \in \Bbb N$
We introduce the concept of a family of finite directed graphs (order a) which are directed graphs derived from an infinite directed graph (order a), called the a-root digraph. The a-root digraph has four fundamental properties which are; $V(J_\infty(a)) = \{v_i|i \in \Bbb N\}$ and, if $v_j$ is the head of an edge (arc) then the tail is always a vertex $v_i, i<j$ and, if$v_k$ for smallest $k \in \Bbb N$ is a tail vertex then all vertices $v_\ell, k< \ell < j$ are tails of arcs to $v_j$ and finally, the degree of vertex $k$ is $d(v_k) = ak.$ The family of finite directed graphs are those limited to $n \in \Bbb N$ vertices by lobbing off all vertices (and edges arcing to vertices)$v_t, t> n.$ Hence, trivially we have $d(v_i) \leq ai$ for $i \in \Bbb N.$ We present an interesting Lucassian-Zeckendorf result and other general results of interest. It is meant to be an introductory paper to encourage exploratory research.

Let $(h_0,h_1,\ldots,h_s)$ with $h_s\ne0$ be the $h$-vector of the broken circuit complex of a series-parallel network $M$. Let $G$ be a graph whose cycle matroid is $M$. We give a formula for the difference $h_{s-1}-h_1$ in terms of an ear decomposition of $G$. A number of applications of this formula are provided, including several bounds for $h_{s-1}-h_1$, a characterization of outerplanar graphs, and a solution to a conjecture on $A$-graphs posed by Fenton. We also prove that $h_{s-2}\geq h_2$ when $s\geq 4$.

Let $q$ be a prime power. We determine all permutation trinomials of $\Bbb F_{q^2}$ of the form $ax+bx^q+x^{2q-1}\in\Bbb F_{q^2}[x]$. The subclass of such permutation trinomials of $\Bbb F_{q^2}$ with $a,b\in\Bbb F_q$ was determined in a recent paper by the author.
Zero forcing number, constrained matchings and strong structural controllability

The zero forcing number is a graph invariant introduced to study the minimum rank of the graph. In 2008, Aazami proved the NP-hardness of computing the zero forcing number of a simple undirected graph. We complete this NP-hardness result by showing that the non-equivalent problem of computing the zero forcing number of a directed graph allowing loops is also NP-hard. The rest of the paper is devoted to the strong controllability of a networked system. This kind of controllability takes into account only the structure of the interconnection graph, but not the interconnection strengths along the edges. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition in terms of zero forcing sets for the strong controllability of a system whose underlying graph is a directed graph allowing loops. Moreover, we explain how our result differs from a recent related result discovered by Monshizadeh et al. Finally, we show how to solve the problem of finding efficiently a minimum-size input set for the strong controllability of a self-damped system with a tree-structure.
Extremal permutations in routing cycles

Let $G$ be a graph on $n$ vertices, labeled $v_1,\ldots,v_n$ and $π$ be a permutation on $[n]:=\{1,2,\cdots, n\}$. Suppose that each pebble $p_i$ is placed at vertex $v_{π(i)}$ and has destination $v_i$. During each step, a disjoint set of edges is selected and the pebbles on each edge are swapped. Let $rt(G, π)$, the routing number for $π$, be the minimum number of steps necessary for the pebbles to reach their destinations.
Li, Lu, and Yang prove that $rt(C_n, π)\le n-1$ for any permutation on $n$-cycle $C_n$ and conjecture that for $n \geq 5$, if $rt(C_n, π) = n-1$, then $π= (123\cdots n)$ or its inverse. By a computer search, they show that the conjecture holds for $n<8$. We prove in this paper that the conjecture holds for all even $n$.
Overview of the Heisenberg--Weyl Algebra and Subsets of Riordan Subgroups

In a first part, we are concerned with the relationships between polynomials in the two generators of the algebra of Heisenberg--Weyl, its Bargmann--Fock representation with differential operators and the associated one-parameter group.Upon this basis, the paper is then devoted to the groups of Riordan matrices associated to the related transformations of matrices (i.e. substitutions with prefunctions). Thereby, various properties are studied arising in Riordan arrays, in the Riordan group and, more specifically, in the `striped' Riordan subgroups; further, a striped quasigroup and a semigroup are also examined. A few applications to combinatorial structures are also briefly addressed in the Appendix.

Neighborhood complexes and Kronecker double coverings
The neighborhood complex $N(G)$ is a simplicial complex assigned to a graph $G$ whose connectivity gives a lower bound for the chromatic number of $G$. We show that if the Kronecker double coverings of graphs are isomorphic, then their neighborhood complexes are isomorphic. As an application, for integers $m$ and $n$ greater than 2, we construct connected graphs $G$ and $H$ such that $N(G) \cong N(H)$ but $χ(G) = m$ and $χ(H) = n$. We also construct a graph $KG_{n,k}'$ such that $KG_{n,k}'$ and the Kneser graph $KG_{n,k}$ are not isomorphic but their Kronecker double coverings are isomorphic.

Some results on minimum skew zero forcing sets, and skew zero forcing number
Let $G$ be a graph, and $Z$ a subset of its vertices, which we color black, while the remaining are colored white. We define the skew color change rule as follows: if $u$ is a vertex of $G$, and exactly one of its neighbors $v$, is white, then change the color of $v$ to black. A set $Z$ is a skew zero forcing set for $G$ if the application of the skew color change rule (as many times as necessary) will result in all the vertices in $G$ colored black. A set $Z$ is a minimum skew zero forcing set for $G$ if it is a skew zero forcing set for $G$ of least cardinality. The skew zero forcing number $\sZ (G)$ is the minimum of $|Z|$ over all skew zero forcing sets $Z$ for $G$.
In this paper we discuss graphs that have extreme skew zero forcing number. We characterize complete multipartite graphs in terms of $\sZ (G)$. We note relations between minimum skew zero forcing sets and matchings in some bipartite graphs, and in unicyclic graphs. We establish that the elements in the set of minimum skew zero forcing sets in certain bipartite graphs are the bases of a matroid.

In this paper we examine the sorting operator $T(LnR)=T(R)T(L)n$. Applying this operator to a permutation is equivalent to passing the permutation reversed through a stack. We prove theorems that characterise $t$-revstack sortability in terms of patterns in a permutation that we call $zigzag$ patterns. Using these theorems we characterise those permutations of length $n$ which are sorted by $t$ applications of $T$ for $t=0,1,2,n-3,n-2,n-1$. We derive expressions for the descent polynomials of these six classes of permutations and use this information to prove Steingrímsson's sorting conjecture for those six values of $t$. Symmetry and unimodality of the descent polynomials for general $t$-revstack sortable permutations is also proven and three conjectures are given.

We consider the Cayley graph ${\rm C}(W,S)$ of a Coxeter system $(W,S)$ and describe all maximal $2$-cliques in this graph, i.e. maximal subsets in the vertex set such that the distance between any two distinct elements is equal to $2$. As an application, we show that every automorphism of the half of Cayley graph is uniquely extendable to an automorphism of the Cayley graph if $|S|\ge 5$.

Assur graphs are a tool originally developed by mechanical engineers to decompose mechanisms for simpler analysis and synthesis. Recent work has connected these graphs to strongly directed graphs, and decompositions of the pinned rigidity matrix. Many mechanisms have initial configurations which are symmetric, and other recent work has exploited the orbit matrix as a symmetry adapted form of the rigidity matrix. This paper explores how the decomposition and analysis of symmetric frameworks and their symmetric motions can be supported by the new symmetry adapted tools.

A kind of fixed-point problem in the area of discrete tomography is proposed and investigated. Our chief concern in this paper is the case of square windows in the plane. Dealing with the arrays which are bounded, of polynomial growth, and finite-ring-valued, one comes across several interesting phenomena of combinatorial and arithmetic nature.
Near Perfect Matchings in $k$-uniform Hypergraphs

Let $H$ be a $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices where $n$ is a sufficiently large integer not divisible by $k$. We prove that if the minimum $(k-1)$-degree of $H$ is at least $\lfloor n/k \rfloor$, then $H$ contains a matching with $\lfloor n/k\rfloor$ edges. This confirms a conjecture of Rödl, Ruciński and Szemerédi, who proved that the minimum $(k-1)$-degree $n/k+O(\log n)$ suffices. More generally, we show that $H$ contains a matching of size $d$ if its minimum codegree is $d<n/k$, which is also best possible.
