We show that any connected regular graph with $d+1$ distinct eigenvalues and odd-girth $2d+1$ is distance-regular, and in particular that it is a generalized odd graph.
Trivalent expanders and hyperbolic surfaces
We introduce a family of trivalent expanders which tessellate compact hyperbolic surfaces with large isometry groups. We compare this family with Platonic graphs and modifications of them and prove topological and spectral properties of these families.

The thickness of cartesian product $K_n \Box P_m$
The thickness $θ(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the minimum number of planar spanning subgraphs into which the graph $G$ can be decomposed. It is a topological invariant of a graph, which was defined by W.T. Tutte in 1963 and also has important applications to VLSI design. But comparing with other topological invariants, e.g. genus and crossing number, results about thickness of graphs are few. The only types of graphs whose thicknesses have been obtained are complete graphs, complete bipartite graphs and hypercubes. In this paper, by operations on graphs, the thickness of the cartesian product $K_n \Box P_m$, $n,m \geq 2$ are obtained.
Power measures derived from the sequential query process

We study a basic sequential model for the discovery of winning coalitions in a simple game, well known from its use in defining the Shapley-Shubik power index. We derive in a uniform way a family of measures of collective and individual power in simple games, and show that, as for the Shapley-Shubik index, they extend naturally to measures for TU-games. In particular, the individual measures include all weighted semivalues.
We single out the simplest measure in our family for more investigation, as it is new to the literature as far as we know. Although it is very different from the Shapley value, it is closely related in several ways, and is the natural analogue of the Shapley value under a nonstandard, but natural, definition of simple game. We illustrate this new measure by calculating its values on some standard examples.
Secure Frameproof Code Through Biclique Cover

For a binary code $Γ$ of length $v$, a $v$-word $w$ produces by a set of codewords $\{w^1,...,w^r\} \subseteq Γ$ if for all $i=1,...,v$, we have $w_i\in \{w_i^1, ..., w_i^r\}$ . We call a code $r$-secure frameproof of size $t$ if $|Γ|=t$ and for any $v$-word that is produced by two sets $C_1$ and $C_2$ of size at most $r$ then the intersection of these sets is nonempty. A $d$-biclique cover of size $v$ of a graph $G$ is a collection of $v$-complete bipartite subgraphs of $G$ such that each edge of $G$ belongs to at least $d$ of these complete bipartite subgraphs. In this paper, we show that for $t\geq 2r$, an $r$-secure frameproof code of size $t$ and length $v$ exists if and only if there exists a 1-biclique cover of size $v$ for the Kneser graph ${\rm KG}(t,r)$ whose vertices are all $r$-subsets of a $t$-element set and two $r$-subsets are adjacent if their intersection is empty. Then we investigate some connection between the minimum size of $d$-biclique covers of Kneser graphs and cover-free families, where an $(r,w; d)$ cover-free family is a family of subsets of a finite set such that the intersection of any $r$ members of the family contains at least $d$ elements that are not in the union of any other $w$ members. Also, we present an upper bound for 1-biclique covering number of Kneser graphs.
Quantum frieze patterns in quantum cluster algebras of type A
We introduce a quantisation of the Coxeter-Conway frieze patterns and prove that they realise quantum cluster variables in quantum cluster algebras associated with linearly oriented Dynkin quivers of type A. As an application, we obtain the explicit polynomials arising from the lower bound phenomenon in these quantum cluster algebras.

Let $K_{m[n]}$ be the complete multipartite graph with $m$ parts, while each part contains $n$ vertices. The orientably-regular embeddings of complete graphs $K_{m[1]}$ have been determined by Biggs (1971) \cite{Big1}, James and Jones (1985) \cite{JJ}. During the past twenty years, several papers such as Du et al.(2007, 2010) \cite{DJKNS1,DJKNS2}, Jones et al. (2007, 2008) \cite{JNS1,JNS2}, Kwak and Kwon (2005, 2008) \cite{KK1,KK2} and Nedela et al. (1997, 2002)\cite{NS,NSZ} contributed to the orientably-regular embeddings of complete bipartite graphs $K_{2[n]}$ and the final classification was given by Jones \cite{Jon1} in 2010. Based on our former paper \cite{ZD}, this paper gives a complete classification of orientably-regular embeddings of graphs $K_{m[n]}$ for the general cases $m\ge 3$ and $n\ge 2$.

In the paper, the author establishes some identities which show that the functions $\frac1{(1-e^{\pm t})^k}$ and the derivatives $\bigl(\frac1{e^{\pm t}-1}\bigr)^{(i)}$ can be expressed each other by linear combinations with coefficients involving the combinatorial numbers and the Stirling numbers of the second kind, where $t\ne0$ and $i,k\in\mathbb{N}$.
Compositions constrained by graph Laplacian minors

Motivated by examples of symmetrically constrained compositions, super convex partitions, and super convex compositions, we initiate the study of partitions and compositions constrained by graph Laplacian minors. We provide a complete description of the multivariate generating functions for such compositions in the case of trees. We answer a question due to Corteel, Savage, and Wilf regarding super convex compositions, which we describe as compositions constrained by Laplacian minors for cycles; we extend this solution to the study of compositions constrained by Laplacian minors of leafed cycles. Connections are established and conjectured between compositions constrained by Laplacian minors of leafed cycles of prime length and algebraic/combinatorial properties of reflexive simplices.
Surprising symmetries in 132-avoiding permutations
We prove that the total number $S_{n,132}(q)$ of copies of the pattern $q$ in all 132-avoiding permutations of length $n$ is the same for $q=231$, $q=312$, or $q=213$. We provide a combinatorial proof for this unexpected threefold symmetry. We then significantly generalize this result to show an exponential number of different pairs of patterns $q$ and $q'$ of length $k$ for which $S_{n,132}(q)=S_{n,132}(q')$ and the equality is non-trivial.

We develop a general theory of "almost Hadamard matrices". These are by definition the matrices $H\in M_N(\mathbb R)$ having the property that $U=H/\sqrt{N}$ is orthogonal, and is a local maximum of the 1-norm on O(N). Our study includes a detailed discussion of the circulant case ($H_{ij}=γ_{j-i}$) and of the two-entry case ($H_{ij}\in{x,y}$), with the construction of several families of examples, and some 1-norm computations.

In this paper we produce a generating function for the number of hyperelliptic curves (up to translation) on a polarized Abelian surfaces using the crepant resolution conjecture and the Yau-Zaslow formula. We present a formula to compute these in terms of MacMahon's generalized sum-of-divisors functions, and prove that they are quasi-modular forms.
Nonrepetitive Colourings of Planar Graphs with $O(\log n)$ Colours

A vertex colouring of a graph is \emph{nonrepetitive} if there is no path for which the first half of the path is assigned the same sequence of colours as the second half. The \emph{nonrepetitive chromatic number} of a graph $G$ is the minimum integer $k$ such that $G$ has a nonrepetitive $k$-colouring. Whether planar graphs have bounded nonrepetitive chromatic number is one of the most important open problems in the field. Despite this, the best known upper bound is $O(\sqrt{n})$ for $n$-vertex planar graphs. We prove a $O(\log n)$ upper bound.

We construct a special type of antichain (i. e., a family of subsets of a set, such that no subset is contained in another) using group-theoretical considerations, and obtain an upper bound on the cardinality of such an antichain. We apply the result to bound the number of strong counterpoint dichotomies up to affine isomorphisms.

For a real number $t$, let $r_\ell(t)$ be the total weight of all $t$-large Schröder paths of length $\ell$, and $s_\ell(t)$ be the total weight of all $t$-small Schröder paths of length $\ell$. For constants $α, β$, in this article we derive recurrence formulae for the determinats of the Hankel matrices $\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αr_{i+j-2}(t) +βr_{i+j-1}(t))$,
$\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αr_{i+j-1}(t) +βr_{i+j}(t))$,
$\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αs_{i+j-2}(t) +βs_{i+j-1}(t))$, and $\det_{1\le i,j\le n} (αs_{i+j-1}(t) +βs_{i+j}(t))$ combinatorially via suitable lattice path models.
Hard squares on cylinders revisited
We consider the independence complexes of square grids with cylindrical boundary conditions. When one of the dimensions is small we use simple reductions induced by edge removals to show explicit natural homotopy equivalences between those spaces. In the second part we expand the results of Jonsson, who calculated the Euler characteristic of cylinders with odd circumference. We describe a series of results for cylinders of even circumference. Finally we define a completely independent combinatorial model (necklaces) which calculates the generating functions of the Euler characteristic of cylindrical grids. We conjecture that this model has some particularly simple structure.

A k-composition of n is a sequence of length k of positive integers summing up to n. In this paper, we investigate the number of k-compositions of n satisfying two natural coprimality conditions. Namely, we first give an exact asymptotic formula for the number of k-compositions having the first summand coprime to the others. Then, we estimate the number of k-compositions whose summands are all pairwise coprime.
Restricted non-separable planar maps and some pattern avoiding permutations

Tutte founded the theory of enumeration of planar maps in a series of papers in the 1960s. Rooted non-separable planar maps are in bijection with West-2-stack-sortable permutations, beta(1,0)-trees introduced by Cori, Jacquard and Schaeffer in 1997, as well as a family of permutations defined by the avoidance of two four letter patterns. In this paper we give upper and lower bounds on the number of multiple-edge-free rooted non-separable planar maps. We also use the bijection between rooted non-separable planar maps and a certain class of permutations, found by Claesson, Kitaev and Steingrimsson in 2009, to show that the number of 2-faces (excluding the root-face) in a map equals the number of occurrences of a certain mesh pattern in the permutations. We further show that this number is also the number of nodes in the corresponding beta(1,0)-tree that are single children with maximum label. Finally, we give asymptotics for some of our enumerative results.
