The rank of edge connection matrices and the dimension of algebras of invariant tensors
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics, 33, 1167-1173, 2012 • View Publication • BIB
We characterize the rank of edge connection matrices of partition functions of real vertex models, as the dimension of the homogeneous components of the algebra of $G$-invariant tensors. Here $G$ is the sub- group of the real orthogonal group that stabilizes the vertex model. This answers a question of Balázs Szegedy from 2007.

Splittings of independence complexes and the powers of cycles
Published • View Publication • BIB
We use two cofibre sequences to identify some combinatorial situations when the independence complex of a graph splits into a wedge sum of smaller independence complexes. Our main application is to give a recursive relation for the homotopy types of the independence complexes of powers of cycles, which answers an open question of D. Kozlov.

The maximum number of faces of the Minkowski sum of two convex polytopes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We derive tight expressions for the maximum number of $k$-faces, $0\le{}k\le{}d-1$, of the Minkowski sum, $P_1\oplus{}P_2$, of two $d$-dimensional convex polytopes $P_1$ and $P_2$, as a function of the number of vertices of the polytopes. For even dimensions $d\ge{}2$, the maximum values are attained when $P_1$ and $P_2$ are cyclic $d$-polytopes with disjoint vertex sets. For odd dimensions $d\ge{}3$, the maximum values are attained when $P_1$ and $P_2$ are $\lfloor\frac{d}{2}\rfloor$-neighborly $d$-polytopes, whose vertex sets are chosen appropriately from two distinct $d$-dimensional moment-like curves.

On the degree-chromatic polynomial of a tree
Published in DMTCS Proceedings. AR , 2012, pags 69 72 • View Publication • BIB
The degree chromatic polynomial $Pm(G,k)$ of a graph $G$ counts the number of $k$-colorings in which no vertex has $m$ adjacent vertices of its same color. We prove Humpert and Martin's conjecture on the leading terms of the degree chromatic polynomial of a tree.
Vertex-disjoint directed and undirected cycles in general digraphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
The dicycle transversal number t(D) of a digraph D is the minimum size of a dicycle transversal of D, i. e. a set T of vertices of D such that D-T is acyclic. We study the following problem: Given a digraph D, decide if there is a dicycle B in D and a cycle C in the underlying undirected graph of D such such that B,C are disjoint. It is known that there is a polynomial time algorithm for this problem when restricted to strongly connected graphs, which actually finds B,C if they exist. We generalize this to any class of digraphs D with either t(D) not equal to 1 or t(D)=1 and a bounded number of dicycle transversals, and show that the problem is NP-complete for a special class of digraphs D with t(D)=1 and, hence, in general.

Published • View Publication • BIB
In this paper, we prove Conjecture 4.8 of "Cluster algebras IV" by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky, stating that the mutation classes of rectangular matrices associated with cluster algebras of finite type are precisely those classes which are finite.

Turàn numbers of Multiple Paths and Equibipartite Trees
Published in Combinatorics, Probability and Computing 20 (2011), 837 - 853 • View Publication • BIB
The Turán number of a graph H, ex(n;H), is the maximum number of edges in any graph on n vertices which does not contain H as a subgraph. Let P_l denote a path on l vertices, and kP_l denote k vertex-disjoint copies of P_l. We determine ex(n, kP_3) for n appropriately large, answering in the positive a conjecture of Gorgol. Further, we determine ex (n, kP_l) for arbitrary l, and n appropriately large relative to k and l. We provide some background on the famous Erdős-Sós conjecture, and conditional on its truth we determine ex(n;H) when H is an equibipartite forest, for appropriately large n.

Singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow
Published in IEEE Transactions. Inform. Theory, vol. 58, pp. 3856--3860, 2012 • View Publication • BIB
In this note we investigate extremal singly-even self-dual codes with minimal shadow. For particular parameters we prove non-existence of such codes. By a result of Rains \cite{Rains-asymptotic}, the length of extremal singly-even self-dual codes is bounded. We give explicit bounds in case the shadow is minimal.
On the extremal energy of integral weighted trees
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let ${\mathcal T}(n,m)$ and ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$ denote the classes of weighted trees and forests, respectively, of order $n$ with the positive integral weights and the fixed total weight sum $m$, respectively. In this paper, we determine the minimum energies for both the classes ${\mathcal T}(n,m)$ and ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$. We also determine the maximum energy for the class ${\mathcal F}(n,m)$. In all cases, we characterize the weighted graphs whose energies reach these extremal values. We also solve the similar maximum energy and minimum energy problems for the classes of (0,1) weighted trees and forests.

All binary self-dual [44,22,8] codes with an automorphism of order 3 or 7 are classified. In this way we complete the classification of extremal self-dual codes of length 44 having an automorphism of odd prime order.

We show that there is no 1-ended, planar, hyperbolic graph such that the stabilizer of one of its hyperbolic boundary points acts transitively on the vertices of the graph. This gives a partial answer to a question by Kaimanovich and Woess.

Multi-fold sums from a set with few products
In this paper we show that for any $k\geq2$, there exist two universal constants $C_k,D_k>0$, such that for any finite subset $A$ of positive real numbers with $|AA|\leq M|A|$, $|kA|\geq \frac{C_k}{M^{D_k}}\cdot|A|^{\log_42k}.$

Splitting of operations, Manin products and Rota-Baxter operators
Published in Int. Math. Res. Not. IMTN (2012) • View Publication • BIB
This paper provides a general operadic definition for the notion of splitting the operations of algebraic structures. This construction is proved to be equivalent to some Manin products of operads and it is shown to be closely related to Rota-Baxter operators. Hence, it gives a new effective way to compute Manin black products. The present construction is shown to have symmetry properties. Finally, this allows us to describe the algebraic structure of square matrices with coefficients in algebras of certain types. Many examples illustrate this text, including the case of Jordan algebras.

Multi-parameter projection theorems with applications to sums-products and finite point configurations in the Euclidean setting
In this paper we study multi-parameter projection theorems for fractal sets. With the help of these estimates, we recover results about the size of $A \cdot A+...+A \cdot A$, where $A$ is a subset of the real line of a given Hausdorff dimension, $A+A=\{a+a': a,a' \in A \}$ and $A \cdot A=\{a \cdot a': a,a' \in A\}$. We also use projection results and inductive arguments to show that if a Hausdorff dimension of a subset of ${\Bbb R}^d$ is sufficiently large, then the ${k+1 \choose 2}$-dimensional Lebesgue measure of the set of $k$-simplexes determined by this set is positive. The sharpness of these results and connection with number theoretic estimates is also discussed.

The k-Tuple Domatic Number of a Graph
Published in Caspian Journal of Mathematical Sciences, Volume 2, Issue 2 (2013) 105-112 • Search Publication
For every positive integer $k$, a set $S$ of vertices in a graph $G=(V,E)$ is a $k$-tuple dominating set of $G$ if every vertex of $V-S$ is adjacent to least $k$ vertices and every vertex of $S$ is adjacent to least $k-1$ vertices in $S$. The minimum cardinality of a $k$-tuple dominating set of $G$ is the $k$-tuple domination number of $G$. When $k=1$, a $k$-tuple domination number is the well-studied domination number. We define the $k$-tuple domatic number of $G$ as the largest number of sets in a partition of $V$ into $k$-tuple dominating sets. Recall that when $k=1$, a $k$-tuple domatic number is the well-studied domatic number. In this work, we derive basic properties and bounds for the $k$-tuple domatic number.

k-tuple total restrained domination and k-tuple total restrained domatic in graphs
Published in BUll. Iranian Math. Soc. Vol 40 (2014) No. 3 pp.751-763 • Search Publication
Let $G$ be a graph of order $n$ and size $m$ and let $k\geq 1$ be an integer. A $k$-tuple total dominating set in $G$ is called a $k$-tuple total restrained dominating set of $G$ if each vertex $x\in V(G)-S$ is adjacent to at least $k$ vertices of $V(G)-S$. The minimum number of vertices of a such sets in $G$ are the $k$-tuple total restrained domination number $γ_{\times k,t}^{r}(G)$ of $G$. The maximum number of classes of a partition of $V(G)$ such that its all classes are $k$-tuple total restrained dominating sets in $G$, is called the $k$-tuple total restrained domatic number of $G$. In this manuscript, we first find $γ_{\times k,t}^{r}(G)$, when $G$ is complete graph, cycle, bipartite graph and the complement of path or cycle. Also we will find bounds for this number when $G$ is a complete multipartite graph. Then we will know the structure of graphs $G$ which $γ_{\times k,t}^{r}(G)=m$, for some $m\geq k+1$ and give upper and lower bounds for $γ_{\times k,t}^{r}(G)$, when $G$ is an arbitrary graph. Next, we mainly present basic properties of the $k$-tuple total restrained domatic number of a graph and give bounds for it. Finally we give bounds for the $k$-tuple total restrained domination number of the complementary prism $G\bar{G}$ in terms on the similar number of $G$ and $\bar{G}$ when $G$ is a regular graph or an arbitrary graph. And then we calculate it when $G$ is cycle or path.

Kadets type theorems for partitions of a convex body
Published in Discrete and Computational Geometry 48:3 (2012), 766-776 • View Publication • BIB
For convex partitions of a convex body $B$ we prove that we can put a homothetic copy of $B$ into each set of the partition so that the sum of homothety coefficients is $\ge 1$. In the plane the partition may be arbitrary, while in higher dimensions we need certain restrictions on the partition.
