Horofunctions of infinite Sierpinski polygon graphs
Generalizing works of D'Angeli and Donno, we describe, starting from an infinite sequence over $r$ letters with $r \neq 4i$ and $i \in \mathbb{N}$, a sequence of pointed finite graphs. We study the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff limit graphs giving a description of isomorphim classes in terms of dihedral groups and providing insights on the horofunction boundaries in terms of Busemann and non-Busemann points.

Partitioning set $[n] = \{1, \dots, n\}$ into subsets of size at most $m$ such that all sums are powers of $m$
Given integer $n > 0$ and $m > 1$, we call a partition of set $[n] = \{1, \dots, n\}$ {\em $m$-good} if each of the partitioning sets is of size at most $m$ and the sum of numbers in it is a power of $m$, that is, $m^t$ for some $t \geq 0$. It is easily seen that a unique 2-good partition exists for each $n$ and, in contrast, for each fixed $m>3$, for infinitely many $n$, no $m$-good partition exists. Case $m=3$ is more difficult. We conjecture that 3-good partitions exist for each $n$ and prove that a minimal counter-example, if any, is at least 101 and must belong to the set {\centering $N_o = \{n \equiv 2 \pmod 3\} \cap \{3^t+1 < n < (3^{t+1}+1)/2 \mid t \geq 4\}.$ } For this case we provide some partial results. We also show that a 3-good partition is unique if $n \in N_u = \{1, 2, 3, 4, 3^t-4, 3^t-2, 3^t-1, 3^t, 3^t+1, 3^t+2, 3^t+3 \mid t > 1\}$ and conjecture that the inverse holds too.

On simultaneous $(s, s+t, s+2t, \dots)$-core partitions
We consider simultaneous $(s,s+t,s+2t,\dots,s+pt)$-core partitions in the large-$p$ limit, or (when $s<t$), partitions in which no hook may be of length $s \pmod{t}$. We study generating functions, containment properties, and congruences when $s$ is not coprime to $t$. As a boundary case of the general study made by Cho, Huh and Sohn, we provide enumerations when $s$ is coprime to $t$, and answer positively a conjecture of Fayers on the polynomial behavior of the size of the set of simultaneous $(s,s+t,s+2t,\dots,s+pt)$-core partitions when $p$ grows arbitrarily large. Of particular interest throughout is the comparison to the behavior of simultaneous $(s,t)$-cores.

A Supergeometric Faà di Bruno Formula
We extend the multivariate Faà di Bruno formula to the super case, where anticommuting odd coordinates are considered. The formula takes the same form as the classical case but contains some nontrivial signs, which essentially measure the failure to order the odd factors and derivatives optimally. As a quick application, we obtain an explicit combinatorial formula for the generalized super Bell polynomials, defined by Fan and Hon.
A logical implication between two conjectures on matrix permanents
Published in Linear Algebra and its Applications, Volume 725, 15 November 2025, Pages 309-318 • View PublicationBIB
We prove a logical implication between two old conjectures stated by Bapat and Sunder about the permanent of positive semidefinite matrices. Although Drury has recently disproved both conjectures, this logical implication yields a non-trivial link between two seemingly unrelated conditions that a positive semidefinite matrix may fulfill. As a corollary, the classes of matrices that are known to obey the first conjecture are then immediately proven to obey the second one. Conversely, we uncover new counterexamples to the first conjecture by exhibiting a previously unknown type of counterexamples to the second conjecture.

The symmetric strong circuit elimination property
If $C_1$ and $C_2$ are circuits in a matroid $M$ with $e_1$ in $C_1-C_2$ and $e$ in $C_1\cap C_2$, then $M$ has a circuit $C_3$ such that $e\in C_3\subseteq (C_1\cup C_2)-e$. This strong circuit elimination axiom is inherently asymmetric. A matroid $M$ has the symmetric strong circuit elimination property (SSCE) if, when the above conditions hold and $e_2\in C_2-C_1$, there is a circuit $C_3'$ with $\{e_1,e_2\}\subseteq C_3'\subseteq (C_1\cup C_2)-e$. We prove that a connected matroid has this property if and only if it has no two skew circuits. We also characterize such matroids in terms of forbidden series minors, and we give a new matroid axiom system that is built around a modification of SSCE.

Algebraic connectivity in normed spaces
The algebraic connectivity of a graph $G$ in a finite dimensional real normed linear space $X$ is a geometric counterpart to the Fiedler number of the graph and can be regarded as a measure of the rigidity of the graph in $X$. We analyse the behaviour of the algebraic connectivity of $G$ in $X$ with respect to graph decomposition, vertex deletion and isometric isomorphism, and provide a general bound expressed in terms of the geometry of $X$ and the Fiedler number of the graph. Particular focus is given to the space $\ell_\infty^d$ where we present explicit formulae and calculations as well as upper and lower bounds. As a key tool, we show that the monochrome subgraphs of a complete framework in $\ell_\infty^d$ are odd-hole-free. Connections to redundant rigidity are also presented.

Chromatic MacMahon symmetric functions of graphs
A MacMahon symmetric function is an invariant of the diagonal action of the symmetric group on power series in multiple alphabets of variables. We introduce an analogue of the chromatic symmetric function for vertex-weighted graphs, taking values in the MacMahon symmetric functions on two sets of variables, recording information about both cardinalities and weights of vertex sets. We prove that the chromatic symmetric MacMahon function of a tree determines the generating function for its vertex subsets by cardinality, weight, and the numbers of internal and external edges. This result generalizes the one for the unweighted case, first conjectured by Crew and proved independently by Aliste-Prieto--Martin--Wagner--Zamora and Liu--Tang.

On the Undecidability of Tiling the $3$-dimensional Space with a Set of $3$ Polycubes
Translational tiling problems are among the most fundamental and representative undecidable problems in all fields of mathematics. Greenfeld and Tao obtained two remarkable results on the undecidability of translational tiling in recent years. One is the existence of an aperiodic monotile in a space of sufficiently large dimension. The other is the undecidability of translational tiling of periodic subsets of space with a single tile, provided that the dimension of the space is part of the input. These two results support the following conjecture: there is a fixed dimension $n$ such that translational tiling with a single tile is undecidable. One strategy towards solving this conjecture is to prove the undecidability of translational tiling of a fixed dimension space with a set of $k$ tiles, for a positive integer $k$ as small as possible. In this paper, it is shown that translational tiling the $3$-dimensional space with a set of $3$ polycubes is undecidable.
On the geometry of stack-sorting simplices
We show that all stack-sorting polytopes are simplices. Furthermore, we show that the stack-sorting polytopes generated from $Ln1$ permutations have relative volume 1. We establish an upper bound for the number of lattice points in a stack-sorting polytope. In particular, stack-sorting polytopes generated from $2Ln1$ permutations have no interior points.

An explicit power series result for the two type ASEP
Research in combinatorics has often focused on the ASEP (asymmetric simple exclusion process). The ASEP is inspired by processes in statistical mechanics, and involves particles of various species moving around a lattice. The particles do not change species. In the present paper, based on earlier results of Mortimer and Prellberg and others, we obtain a new power series results for the two type ASEP.

How to Expand a Self-orthogonal Code
In this paper, we show how to expand Euclidean/Hermitian self-orthogonal code preserving their orthogonal property. Our results show that every $k$-dimension Hermitian self-orthogonal code is contained in a $(k+1)$-dimensional Hermitian self-orthogonal code. Also, for $k< n/2-1$, every $[n,k]$ Euclidean self-orthogonal code is contained in an $[n,k+1]$ Euclidean self-orthogonal code. Moreover, for $k=n/2-1$ and $p=2$, we can also fulfill the expanding process. But for $k=n/2-1$ and $p$ odd prime, the expanding process can be fulfilled if and only if an extra condition must be satisfied. We also propose two feasible algorithms on these expanding procedures.

Rook sums in the symmetric group algebra
Let $\mathcal{A}$ be the group algebra $\mathbf{k}[S_n]$ of the $n$-th symmetric group $S_n$ over a commutative ring $\mathbf{k}$. For any two subsets $A$ and $B$ of $[n]$, we define the elements \[ \nabla_{B,A}:=\sum_{\substack{w\in S_n;\\w\left( A\right) =B}} w \qquad \text{and} \qquad \widetilde{\nabla}_{B,A}:=\sum_{\substack{w\in S_n;\\w\left( A\right) \subseteq B}}w \] of $\mathcal{A}$. We study these elements, showing in particular that their minimal polynomials factor into linear factors (with integer coefficients). We express the product $\nabla_{D,C}\nabla_{B,A}$ as a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear combination of $\nabla_{U,V}$'s. More generally, for any two set compositions (i.e., ordered set partitions) $\mathbf{A}$ and $\mathbf{B}$ of $\left\{ 1,2,\ldots,n\right\} $, we define $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}\in\mathcal{A}$ to be the sum of all permutations $w\in S_n$ that send each block of $\mathbf{A}$ to the corresponding block of $\mathbf{B}$. This generalizes $\nabla_{B,A}$. The factorization property of minimal polynomials does not extend to the $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}$, but we describe the ideal spanned by the $\nabla_{\mathbf{B},\mathbf{A}}$ and a further ideal complementary to it. These two ideals have a "mutually annihilative" relationship, are free as $\mathbf{k}$-modules, and appear as annihilators of tensor product $S_n$-representations; they are also closely related to Murphy's cellular bases, Specht modules, pattern-avoiding permutations and even some algebras appearing in quantum information theory.

An equality for balanced digraphs
Consider a directed multigraph $D$ that is balanced (i.e., at each vertex, the indegree equals the outdegree). Let $A$ be its set of arcs. Fix an integer $k$. Let $s$ be a vertex of $D$. We show that the number of $k$-element subsets $B$ of $A$ that contain no cycles but contain a path from each vertex to $s$ (we call them "$s$-convergences") is independent on $s$. This generalizes known facts about spanning arborescences, acyclic orientations and maximal acyclic subdigraphs (or, equivalently, minimum feedback arc sets). Moreover, this result can be generalized even further, replacing "contain no cycles" with "have a given set of cycles".

Structure of $k$-Matching-Planar Graphs
For $k \geqslant 0$, we define a simple topological graph $G$ (that is, a graph drawn in the plane such that every pair of edges intersect at most once, including endpoints) to be $k$-matching-planar if for every edge $e \in E(G)$, every matching amongst the edges of $G$ that cross $e$ has size at most $k$. The class of $k$-matching-planar graphs is a significant generalisation of many other existing beyond planar graph classes, including $k$-planar graphs. We prove that every simple topological $k$-matching-planar graph is isomorphic to a subgraph of the strong product of a graph with bounded treewidth and a path. This result qualitatively extends the planar graph product structure theorem of Dujmović, Joret, Micek, Morin, Ueckerdt, and Wood [J. ACM 2020] and recent product structure theorems for other beyond planar graph classes. Using this result, we deduce that the class of simple topological $k$-matching-planar graphs has several attractive properties, making it the broadest class of simple beyond planar graphs in the literature that has these properties. All of our results about simple topological $k$-matching-planar graphs generalise to the non-simple setting, where the maximum number of pairwise crossing edges incident to a common vertex becomes relevant. The paper introduces several tools and results of independent interest. We show that every simple topological $k$-matching-planar graph admits an edge-colouring with $\mathcal{O}(k^{3}\log k)$ colours such that monochromatic edges do not cross. As a key ingredient of the proof of our main product structure theorem, we introduce the concept of weak shallow minors, which subsume and generalise shallow minors, a key concept in graph sparsity theory. We also establish upper bounds on the treewidth of graphs with well-behaved circular drawings that qualitatively generalise several existing results.

Is the space of reachable particle configurations dense?
Let $p_0,\ldots,p_n$ be a finite sequence of points in an Euclidean space $\R^d$. Suppose that there is a (pointlike) particle sitting at each point $p_i$. In a ``legal'' move, any one of them can jump over another, landing on the other side, at exactly the same distance. Under what circumstances can we guarantee that for any $\varepsilon>0$ and any other sequence of points $q_0,\ldots, q_n\in\R^d$, there is a finite sequence of legal moves that takes the particle at $p_i$ to the $\varepsilon$-neighborhood of $q_i$, simultaneously for every $i$? We prove that this is possible if and only if the additive group generated by the vectors $p_1-p_0,\ldots,p_n-p_0$ is dense in $\R^d$.
A quasi-optimal upper bound for induced paths in sparse graphs
In 2012, Nešetřil and Ossona de Mendez proved that graphs of bounded degeneracy that have a path of order $n$ also have an induced path of order $Ω(\log \log n)$. In this paper we give an almost matching upper bound by describing, for arbitrarily large values of $n$, 2-degenerate graphs that have a path of order $n$ and where the longest induced paths have order $O((\log \log n)^{1+o(1)})$.

Spectral radius of simplicial complexes without holes
The Turán problem for hypergraphs and its spectral version is a central and challenging topic in extremal combinatorics. In this paper, we view hypergraphs from the perspective of simplicial complexes, and investigate the spectral version of Turán problem for simplicial complexes. We characterize the simplicial complex that maximizes the signless Laplacian spectral radius among all hole-free simplicial complexes, and establish an upper bound on the spectral radius for simplicial complexes with a prescribed Betti number. As an application, we derive bounds on Turán numbers for both hypergraphs and simplicial complexes via the connection between the spectral radius and the face numbers.
Maker playing against an invisible Breaker
We initiate the study of the phantom version of Maker-Breaker positional games. In a phantom game, the moves of one of the players are hidden from the other player, who still has the complete information. We look at the biased $(a:b)$ Maker-PhantomBreaker games where the board is the edge set of the complete graph on $n$ vertices, $K_n$, and Maker has no information about PhantomBreaker's choices of edges. We give randomized strategies for both players in four classical games: connectivity game, perfect matching game, mindegree-$k$ game and Hamiltonicity game. In particular, we focus on characterizing all biases $(a:b)$ for which Maker wins asymptotically almost surely.

Supersymmetric Schur polynomials have saturated Newton polytopes
We prove that every supersymmetric Schur polynomial has a saturated Newton polytope (SNP). Our approach begins with a tableau-theoretic description of the support, which we encode as a polyhedron with a totally unimodular constraint matrix. The integrality of this polyhedron follows from the Hoffman-Kruskal criterion, thereby establishing the SNP property.
