Enumeration of graphs with given weighted number of connected components
We give a generating function for the number of graphs with given numerical properties and prescribed weighted number of connected components. As an application, we give a generating function for the number of bipartite graphs of given order, size and number of connected components.

The maximum matching width is a width-parameter that is defined on a branch-decomposition over the vertex set of a graph. The size of a maximum matching in the bipartite graph is used as a cut-function. In this paper, we characterize the graphs of maximum matching width at most 2 using the minor obstruction set. Also, we compute the exact value of the maximum matching width of a grid.
Distance proper connection of graphs
Let $G$ be an edge-colored connected graph. A path $P$ in $G$ is called a distance $\ell$-proper path if no two edges of the same color appear with fewer than $\ell$ edges in between on $P$. The graph $G$ is called $(k,\ell)$-proper connected if every pair of distinct vertices of $G$ are connected by $k$ pairwise internally vertex-disjoint distance $\ell$-proper paths in $G$. For a $k$-connected graph $G$, the minimum number of colors needed to make $G$ $(k,\ell)$-proper connected is called the $(k,\ell)$-proper connection number of $G$ and denoted by $pc_{k,\ell}(G)$. In this paper, we prove that $pc_{1,2}(G)\leq 5$ for any $2$-connected graph $G$. Considering graph operations, we find that $3$ is a sharp upper bound for the $(1,2)$-proper connection number of the join and the Cartesian product of almost all graphs. In addition, we find some basic properties of the $(k,\ell)$-proper connection number and determine the values of $pc_{1,\ell}(G)$ where $G$ is a traceable graph, a tree, a complete bipartite graph, a complete multipartite graph, a wheel, a cube or a permutation graph of a nontrivial traceable graph.

Let $γ(G)$ and $i(G)$ be the domination number and the independent domination number of $G$, respectively. Rad and Volkmann posted a conjecture that $i(G)/ γ(G) \leq Δ(G)/2$ for any graph $G$, where $Δ(G)$ is its maximum degree (See \cite{5}: N.J. Rad, L. Volkmann, A note on the independent domination number in graphs. Discrete Appl. Math. 161(2013) 3087--3089). In this work, we verify the conjecture for bipartite graphs. Several graph classes attaining the extremal bound and graphs containing odd cycles with the ratio larger than $Δ(G)/2$ are provided as well.
Strengthening topological colorful results for graphs

Various results ensure the existence of large complete bipartite graphs in properly colored graphs when some condition related to a topological lower bound on the chromatic number is satisfied. We generalize three theorems of this kind, respectively due to Simonyi and Tardos (Combinatorica, 2006), Simonyi, Tardif, and Zsbán (The Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2013), and Chen (Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 2011). As a consequence of the generalization of Chen's theorem, we get new families of graphs whose chromatic number equals their circular chromatic number and that satisfy Hedetniemi's conjecture for the circular chromatic number.

We study the Bakry-Émery curvature function $\mathcal{K}_{G,x}:(0,\infty]\to \mathbb{R}$ of a vertex $x$ in a locally finite graph $G$ systematically. Here $\mathcal{K}_{G,x}(\mathcal{N})$ is defined as the optimal curvature lower bound $\mathcal{K}$ in the Bakry-Émery curvature-dimension inequality $CD(\mathcal{K},\mathcal{N})$ that $x$ satisfies. We prove the curvature functions of the Cartesian product of two graphs $G_1,G_2$ equal an abstract product of curvature functions of $G_1,G_2$. We relate the curvature functions of $G$ with various spectral properties of (weighted) graphs constructed from local structures of $G$. We explore the curvature functions of Cayley graphs, strongly regular graphs, and many particular (families of) examples including Johnson graphs and complete bipartite graphs. We construct an infinite family of $6$-regular graphs which satisfy $CD(0,\infty)$ but are not Cayley graphs.
On edges not in monochromatic copies of a fixed bipartite graph

Let $H$ be a fixed graph. Denote $f(n,H)$ to be the maximum number of edges not contained in any monochromatic copy of $H$ in a 2-edge-coloring of the complete graph $K_n$, and $ex(n,H)$ to be the {\it Turán number} of $H$. An easy lower bound shows $f(n,H)\ge ex(n,H)$ for any $H$ and $n$. In \cite{KS2}, Keevash and Sudakov proved that if $H$ is an edge-color-critical graph or $C_4$, then $f(n,H)= ex(n,H)$ holds for large $n$, and they asked if this equality holds for any graph $H$ when $n$ is sufficiently large. In this paper, we provide an affirmative answer to this problem for an abundant infinite family of bipartite graphs $H$, including all even cycles and complete bipartite graphs $K_{s,t}$ for $t>s^2-3s+3$ or $(s,t)\in\{(3,3),(4,7)\}$. In addition, our proof shows that for all such $H$, the 2-edge-coloring $c$ of $K_n$ achieves the maximum number $f(n,H)$ if and only if one of the color classes in $c$ induces an extremal graph for $ex(n,H)$. We also obtain a multi-coloring generalization for bipartite graphs. Some related problems are discussed in the final section.

Let $G$ be a finite simple graph. We give a lower bound for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the toric ideal $I_G$ associated to $G$ in terms of the sizes and number of induced complete bipartite graphs in $G$. When $G$ is a chordal bipartite graph, we find an upper bound for the regularity of $I_G$ in terms of the size of the bipartition of $G$. We also give a new proof for the graded Betti numbers of the toric ideal associated to the complete bipartite graph $K_{2,n}$.

In this note we study inhomogeneous random bipartite graphs in random environment. These graphs can be thought of as an extension of the classical Erdös-Rényi random graphs in a random environment. We show that the expected number of perfect matchings obeys a precise quenched asymptotic and that it can be approximated using an iterative process that converges exponentially fast.
Packing graphs of bounded codegree

Two graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$ on $n$ vertices are said to pack if there exist injective mappings of their vertex sets into $[n]$ such that the images of their edge sets are disjoint. A longstanding conjecture due to Bollobás and Eldridge and, independently, Catlin, asserts that, if $(Δ_1(G)+1) (Δ_2(G)+1) \le n+1$, then $G_1$ and $G_2$ pack. We consider the validity of this assertion under the additional assumption that $G_1$ or $G_2$ has bounded codegree. In particular, we prove for all $t \ge 2$ that, if $G_1$ contains no copy of the complete bipartite graph $K_{2,t}$ and $Δ_1 > 17 t \cdot Δ_2$, then $(Δ_1(G)+1) (Δ_2(G)+1) \le n+1$ implies that $G_1$ and $G_2$ pack. We also provide a mild improvement if moreover $G_2$ contains no copy of the complete tripartite graph $K_{1,1,s}$, $s\ge 1$.
Degree conditions for matchability in $3$-partite hypergraphs

We study conjectures relating degree conditions in $3$-partite hypergraphs to the matching number of the hypergraph, and use topological methods to prove special cases. In particular, we prove a strong version of a theorem of Drisko \cite{drisko} (as generalized by the first two authors \cite{ab}), that every family of $2n-1$ matchings of size $n$ in a bipartite graph has a partial rainbow matching of size $n$. We show that milder restrictions on the sizes of the matchings suffice. Another result that is strengthened is a theorem of Cameron and Wanless \cite{CamWan}, that every Latin square has a diagonal (permutation submatrix) in which no symbol appears more than twice. We show that the same is true under the weaker condition that the square is row-Latin.
On Avoider-Enforcer games

In the Avoider-Enforcer game on the complete graph $K_n$, the players (Avoider and Enforcer) each take an edge in turn. Given a graph property $\mathcal{P}$, Enforcer wins the game if Avoider's graph has the property $\mathcal{P}$. An important parameter is $τ_E({\cal P})$, the smallest integer $t$ such that Enforcer can win the game against any opponent in $t$ rounds.
In this paper, let $\mathcal{F}$ be an arbitrary family of graphs and $\mathcal{P}$ be the property that a member of $\mathcal{F}$ is a subgraph or is an induced subgraph. We determine the asymptotic value of $τ_E(\mathcal{P})$ when $\mathcal{F}$ contains no bipartite graph and establish that $τ_E(\mathcal{P})=o(n^2)$ if $\mathcal{F}$ contains a bipartite graph.
The proof uses the game of JumbleG and the Szemerédi Regularity Lemma.
Edit distance and its computation

In this paper, we provide a method for determining the asymptotic value of the maximum edit distance from a given hereditary property. This method permits the edit distance to be computed without using Szemerédi's Regularity Lemma directly. Using this new method, we are able to compute the edit distance from hereditary properties for which it was previously unknown. For some graphs $H$, the edit distance from ${\rm Forb}(H)$ is computed, where ${\rm forb}(H)$ is the class of graphs which contain no induced copy of graph $H$.
Those graphs for which we determine the edit distance asymptotically are $H=K_a+E_b$, an $a$-clique with $b$ isolated vertices, and $H=K_{3,3}$, a complete bipartite graph. We also provide a graph, the first such construction, for which the edit distance cannot be determined just by considering partitions of the vertex set into cliques and cocliques.
In the process, we develop weighted generalizations of Turán's theorem, which may be of independent interest.

In this paper we provide a short new proof for the integrality of Rothblum's linear description of the convex hull of incidence vectors of stable matchings in bipartite graphs. In the spirit of iterative rounding proofs, the key feature of our proof is to show that extreme points of the formulation must have a 0, 1-component.
$(δ, χ_{_{\sf FF}})$-bounded families of graphs
For any graph $G$, the First-Fit (or Grundy) chromatic number of $G$, denoted by $χ_{_{\sf FF}}(G)$, is defined as the maximum number of colors used by the First-Fit (greedy) coloring of the vertices of $G$. We call a family $\mathcal{F}$ of graphs $(δ, χ_{_{\sf FF}})$-bounded if there exists a function $f(x)$ with $f(x)\rightarrow \infty$ as $x\rightarrow \infty$ such that for any graph $G$ from the family one has $χ_{_{\sf FF}}(G)\geq f(δ(G))$, where $δ(G)$ is the minimum degree of $G$. We first give some results concerning $(δ, χ_{_{\sf FF}})$-bounded families and obtain a few such families. Then we prove that for any positive integer $\ell$, $Forb(K_{\ell,\ell})$ is $(δ, χ_{_{\sf FF}})$-bounded, where $K_{\ell,\ell}$ is complete bipartite graph. We conjecture that if $G$ is any $C_4$-free graph then $χ_{_{\sf FF}}(G)\geq δ(G)+1$. We prove the validity of this conjecture for chordal graphs, complement of bipartite graphs and graphs with low minimum degree.
On main eigenvalues of certain graphs

An eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of a graph is said to be \emph{main} if the all-1 vector is not orthogonal to the associated eigenspace. In this work, we approach the main eigenvalues of some graphs. The graphs with exactly two main eigenvalues are considered and a relation between those main eigenvalues is presented. The particular case of harmonic graphs is analyzed and they are characterized in terms of their main eigenvalues without any restriction on its combinatorial structure. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for a graph $G$ to have $-1-λ_{\min}$ as an eigenvalue of its complement, where $λ_{\min}$ denotes the least eigenvalue of $G$. Also, we prove that among connected bipartite graphs, $K_{r,r}$ is the unique graph for which the index of the complement is equal to $-1-λ_{\min}$. Finally, we characterize all paths and all double stars (trees with diameter three) for which the smallest eigenvalue is non-main. Main eigenvalues of paths and double stars are identified.
Projective dimension of (hyper)graphs and the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of bipartite graphs
We prove that the projective dimension of any (hyper)graph can be bounded from above by the (Castelnuovo-Mumford) regularity of its Levi graph (or incidence bipartite graph). This in particular brings the use of regularity's upper bounds on the calculation of projective dimension of (hyper)graphs. When G is just a (simple) graph, we prove that there exists an induced subgraph H of G such that prod-dim(G)=reg(S(H)), where S(H) is the subdivision graph of H. Moreover, we show that known upper bounds on prod-dim(G) involving domination parameters are in fact upper bounds to reg(S(G)).
Families of $2$-weights of some particular graphs
Let ${\cal G}=(G,w) $ be a positive-weighted graph, that is a graph $G$ endowed with a function $w$ from the edge set of $G$ to the set of positive real numbers; for any distinct vertices $i,j $, we define $D_{i,j}({\cal G})$ to be the weight of the path in $G$ joining $i$ and $j$ with minimum weight. In this paper we fix a particular class of graphs and we give a criterion to establish whether, given a family of positive real numbers $\{D_I\}_{I \in { \{1,...., n\} \choose 2}}$, there exists a positive-weighted graph ${\cal G} =(G,w) $ in the class we have fixed, with vertex set equal to $\{1,....,n\}$ and such that $D_I ({\cal G}) =D_I$ for any $I \in { \{1,...., n\} \choose 2}$. In particular, the classes of graphs we consider are the following: snakes, caterpillars, polygons, bipartite graphs, complete graphs, planar graphs.

Akiyama and Watanabe conjectured that every simple planar bipartite graph on $n$ vertices contains an induced forest on at least $5n/8$ vertices. We apply the discharging method to show that every simple bipartite planar graph on $n$ vertices contains an induced forest on at least $\lceil (4n+3)/7 \rceil$ vertices.
Complex martingales and asymptotic enumeration

Many enumeration problems in combinatorics, including such fundamental questions as the number of regular graphs, can be expressed as high-dimensional complex integrals. Motivated by the need for a systematic study of the asymptotic behaviour of such integrals, we establish explicit bounds on the exponentials of complex martingales. Those bounds applied to the case of truncated normal distributions are precise enough to include and extend many enumerative results of Barvinok, Canfield, Gao, Greenhill, Hartigan, Isaev, McKay, Wang, Wormald, and others. Our method applies to sums as well as integrals.
As a first illustration of the power of our theory, we considerably strengthen existing results on the relationship between random graphs or bipartite graphs with specified degrees and the so-called $β$-model of random graphs with independent edges, which is equivalent to the Rasch model in the bipartite case.
