Lee metrics on groups
In this work we consider interval metrics on groups; that is, integral invariant metrics whose associated weight functions do not have gaps. We give conditions for a group to have and to have not interval metrics. Then we study Lee metrics on general groups, that is interval metrics having the finest unitary symmetric associated partition. These metrics generalize the classic Lee metric on cyclic groups. In the case that $G$ is a torsion-free group or a finite group of odd order, we prove that $G$ has a Lee metric if and only if $G$ is cyclic. Also, if $G$ is a group admitting Lee metrics then $G \times \mathbb{Z}_2^k$ always have Lee metrics for every $k \in \mathbb{N}$. Then, we show that some families of metacyclic groups, such as cyclic, dihedral, and dicyclic groups, always have Lee metrics. Finally, we give conditions for non-cyclic groups such that they do not have Lee metrics. We end with tables of all groups of order $\le 31$ indicating which of them have (or have not) Lee metrics and why (not).

On integral mixed Cayley graphs over non-abelian finite groups admitting an abelian subgroup of index 2
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, several works by a number of authors have provided characterizations of integral undirected Cayley graphs over generalized dihedral groups and generalized dicyclic groups. We generalize and unify these results in two different ways. Firstly, we work over arbitrary non-abelian finite groups admitting an abelian subgroup of index 2. Secondly, our main result actually characterizes integral mixed Cayley graphs over such finite groups, in the spirit of a very recent result of Kadyan--Bhattarcharjya in the abelian case.

On Cayley graphs over generalized dicyclic groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, several works by a number of authors have studied integrality, distance integrality, and distance powers of Cayley graphs over some finite groups, such as dicyclic groups and (generalized) dihedral groups. Our aim is to generalize and/or to give analogues of these results for generalized dicyclic groups. For example, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a Cayley graph over a generalized dicyclic group to be integral (i.e., all eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix are in $\mathbb{Z}$). We also obtain sufficient conditions for the integrality of all distance powers of a Cayley graph over a given generalized dicyclic group. These results extend works on dicyclic groups by Cheng--Feng--Huang and Cheng--Feng--Liu--Lu--Stevanovic, respectively.

Distance-regular Cayley graphs over dicyclic groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
The characterization of distance-regular Cayley graphs originated from the problem of identifying strongly regular Cayley graphs, or equivalently, regular partial difference sets. In this paper, a classification of distance-regular Cayley graphs on dicyclic groups is obtained. More specifically, it is shown that every distance-regular Cayley graph on a dicyclic group is a complete graph, a complete multipartite graph, or a non-antipodal bipartite distance-regular graph with diameter $3$ satisfying some additional conditions.

Perfect state transfer on semi-Cayley graphs over abelian groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we consider the problem on the existence of perfect state transfer(PST for short) on semi-Cayley graphs over abelian groups (which are not necessarily regular), i.e on the graphs having semiregular and abelian subgroups of automorphisms with two orbits of equal size. We stablish a characterization of semi-Cayley graphs over abelian groups having PST. As a result, we give a characterization of Cayley graphs over groups with an abelian subgroup of index 2 having PST, which improves the earlier results on Cayley graphs over abelian groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic group and determines Cayley graphs over generalized dihedral groups and generalized dicyclic groups having PST.

Let $G$ be a generalized dicyclic group with identity $1$. An inverse closed subset $S$ of $G\setminus\{1\}$ is called minimal if $\langle S\rangle=G$ and there exists some $s\in S$ such that $\langle S\setminus\{s,s^{-1}\} \rangle\neq G$. In this paper, we characterize distance-regular Cayley graphs $\mathrm{Cay}(G,S)$ of $G$ under the condition that $S$ is minimal.

Invariant metrics on finite groups
We study invariant and bi-invariant metrics on groups focusing on finite groups $G$. We show that non-equivalent (bi) invariant metrics on $G$ are in 1-1 correspondence with unitary symmetric (conjugate) partitions on $G$. To every metric group $(G,d)$ we associate to it the symmetry group and the weighted graph of distances. Using these objects we can classify all equivalence classes of invariant and bi-invariant metrics for small groups. We then study the number of non-equivalent invariant and bi-invariant metrics on $G$. We give an expression for the number of such metrics in terms of Bell numbers, with closed expressions for certain groups such as abelian, dihedral, quasidihedral and dicyclic groups. We then characterize all the groups (finite or not) in which every invariant metric is also bi-invariant. We give the number of non-equivalent invariant and bi-invariant metrics for all the groups of order up to 32.

On an inverse problem of Erd\H os, Kleitman, and Lemke
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $(G, 1_G)$ be a finite group and let $S=g_1\bdot \ldots\bdot g_{\ell}$ be a nonempty sequence over $G$. We say $S$ is a tiny product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals $1_G$ and $\sum_{i=1}^{\ell}\frac{1}{\ord(g_i)}\le 1$. Let $\mathsf {ti}(G)$ be the smallest integer $t$ such that every sequence $S$ over $G$ with $|S|\ge t$ has a tiny product-one subsequence. The direct problem is to obtain the exact value of $\mathsf {ti}(G)$, while the inverse problem is to characterize the structure of long sequences over $G$ which have no tiny product-one subsequences. In this paper, we consider the inverse problem for cyclic groups and we also study both direct and inverse problems for dihedral groups and dicyclic groups.

On Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv inverse theorems for Dihedral and Dicyclic groups
Let $G$ be a finite group and exp$(G)$ = lcm$\{$ord$(g)$$\mid$$g \in G \}$. A finite unordered sequence of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, is a product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals the identity element of $G$. We denote by $\mathsf s (G)$ (or $\mathsf E (G)$ respectively) the smallest integer $\ell$ such that every sequence of length at least $\ell$ has a product-one subsequence of length $\exp (G)$ (or $|G|$ respectively). In this paper, we provide the exact values of $\mathsf s (G)$ and $\mathsf E (G)$ for Dihedral and Dicyclic groups and we provide explicit characterizations of all sequences of length $\mathsf s (G) - 1$ (or $\mathsf E (G) - 1$ respectively) having no product-one subsequence of length $\exp (G)$ (or $|G|$ respectively).

On minimal product-one sequences of maximal length over Dihedral and Dicyclic groups
Published in Commun. Korean Math. Soc. (2019) • Search Publication
Let $G$ be a finite group. By a sequence over $G$, we mean a finite unordered sequence of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, and we say that it is a product-one sequence if its terms can be ordered such that their product equals the identity element of $G$. The large Davenport constant $\mathsf D (G)$ is the maximal length of a minimal product-one sequence, that is, a product-one sequence which cannot be factored into two non-trivial product-one subsequences. We provide explicit characterizations of all minimal product-one sequences of length $\mathsf D (G)$ over Dihedral and Dicyclic groups. Based on these characterizations we study the unions of sets of lengths of the monoid of product-one sequences over these groups.

Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv theorem and Noether number for $C_m\ltimes_{\varphi} C_{mn}$

Let $G$ be a multiplicative finite group and $S=a_1\cdot\ldots\cdot a_k$ a sequence over $G$. We call $S$ a product-one sequence if $1=\prod_{i=1}^ka_{τ(i)}$ holds for some permutation $τ$ of $\{1,\ldots,k\}$. The small Davenport constant $\mathsf d(G)$ is the maximal length of a product-one free sequence over $G$. For a subset $L\subset \mathbb N$, let $\mathsf s_L(G)$ denote the smallest $l\in\mathbb N_0\cup\{\infty\}$ such that every sequence $S$ over $G$ of length $|S|\ge l$ has a product-one subsequence $T$ of length $|T|\in L$. Denote $\mathsf e(G)=\max\{\text{ord}(g): g\in G\}$. Some classical product-one (zero-sum) invariants including $\mathsf D(G):=\mathsf s_{\mathbb N}(G)$ (when $G$ is abelian), $\mathsf E(G):=\mathsf s_{\{|G|\}}(G)$, $\mathsf s(G):=\mathsf s_{\{\mathsf e(G)\}}(G)$, $η(G):=\mathsf s_{[1,\mathsf e(G)]}(G)$ and $\mathsf s_{d\mathbb N}(G)$ ($d\in\mathbb N$) have received a lot of studies. The Noether number $β(G)$ which is closely related to zero-sum theory is defined to be the maximal degree bound for the generators of the algebra of polynomial invariants. Let $G\cong C_m\ltimes_{\varphi} C_{mn}$, in this paper, we prove that $$\mathsf E(G)=\mathsf d(G)+|G|=m^2n+m+mn-2$$ and $β(G)=\mathsf d(G)+1=m+mn-1$. We also prove that $\mathsf s_{mn\mathbb N}(G)=m+2mn-2$ and provide the upper bounds of $η(G)$, $\mathsf s(G)$. Moreover, if $G$ is a non-cyclic nilpotent group and $p$ is the smallest prime divisor of $|G|$, we prove that $β(G)\le \frac{|G|}{p}+p-1$ except if $p=2$ and $G$ is a dicyclic group, in which case $β(G)=\frac{1}{2}|G|+2$.

Laplacian spectra of power graphs of certain finite groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this article, various aspects of Laplacian spectra of power graphs of finite cyclic, dicyclic and finite $p$-groups are studied. Algebraic connectivity of power graphs of the above groups are considered and determined completely for that of finite $p$-groups. Further, the multiplicity of Laplacian spectral radius of power graphs of the above groups are studied and determined completely for that of dicyclic and finite $p$-groups. The equality of the vertex connectivity and the algebraic connectivity is characterized for power graphs of all of the above groups. Orders of dicyclic groups, for which their power graphs are Laplacian integral, are determined. Moreover, it is proved that the notion of equality of the vertex connectivity and the algebraic connectivity and the notion of Laplacian integral are equivalent for power graphs of dicyclic groups. All possible values of Laplacian eigenvalues are obtained for power graphs of finite $p$-groups. This shows that power graphs of finite $p$-groups are Laplacian integral.

On the minimum degree, edge-connectivity and connectivity of power graphs of finite groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
The power graph of a group $G$ is the graph whose vertex set is $G$ and two distinct vertices are adjacent if one is a power of the other. In this paper, the minimum degree of power graphs of certain classes of cyclic groups, abelian $p$-groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic groups are obtained. It is ascertained that the edge-connectivity and minimum degree of power graphs are equal, and consequently the minimum disconnecting sets of power graphs of the aforementioned groups are determined. Then the equality of connectivity and minimum degree of power graphs of finite groups is investigated and in this connection, certain necessary conditions are produced. A necessary and sufficient condition for the equality of connectivity and minimum degree of power graphs of finite cyclic groups is obtained. Moreover, the equality is examined for the power graphs of abelian $p$-groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic groups.

On groups all of whose undirected Cayley graphs of bounded valency are integral
A finite group $G$ is called Cayley integral if all undirected Cayley graphs over $G$ are integral, i.e., all eigenvalues of the graphs are integers. The Cayley integral groups have been determined by Kloster and Sander in the abelian case, and by Abdollahi and Jazaeri, and independently by Ahmady, Bell and Mohar in the non-abelian case. In this paper we generalize this class of groups by introducing the class $\mathcal{G}_k$ of finite groups $G$ for which all graphs $\mathrm{Cay}(G,S)$ are integral if $|S| \le k$. It will be proved that $\mathcal{G}_k$ consists of the Cayley integral groups if $k \ge 6;$ and the classes $\mathcal{G}_4$ and $\mathcal{G}_5$ are equal, and consist of:\ (1) the Cayley integral groups, (2) the generalized dicyclic groups $\mathrm{Dic}(E_{3^n} \times \mathbb{Z}_6),$ where $n \ge 1$.

Automorphisms of Cayley graphs on generalised dicyclic groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
A graph is called a GRR if its automorphism group acts regularly on its vertex-set. Such a graph is necessarily a Cayley graph. Godsil has shown that there are only two infinite families of finite groups that do not admit GRRs : abelian groups and generalised dicyclic groups. Indeed, any Cayley graph on such a group admits specific additional graph automorphisms that depend only on the group. Recently, Dobson and the last two authors showed that almost all Cayley graphs on abelian groups admit no automorphisms other than these obvious necessary ones. In this paper, we prove the analogous result for Cayley graphs on the remaining family of exceptional groups: generalised dicyclic groups.

A classification of prime-valent regular Cayley maps on some groups
Published in Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 47 (2010) 17-27 • View PublicationBIB
A Cayley map is a 2-cell embedding of a Cayley graph into an orientable surface with the same local orientation induced by a cyclic permutation of generators at each vertex. In this paper, we provide classifications of prime-valent regular Cayley maps on abelian groups, dihedral groups and dicyclic groups. Consequently, we show that all prime-valent regular Cayley maps on dihedral groups are balanced and all prime-valent regular Cayley maps on abelian groups are either balanced or anti-balanced. Furthermore, we prove that there is no prime-valent regular Cayley map on any dicyclic group.
