The comaximal graph of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra
In this paper, we introduce the comaximal graph $Γ(L)$ of a finite-dimensional Lie algebra $L$, whose vertices are the nontrivial proper Lie subalgebras of $L$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$, and two vertices $A$ and $B$ are adjacent if and only if $\langle A, B\rangle =L$. We establish general structural properties, including a characterization of isolated vertices via the Frattini subalgebra and a criterion for completeness in terms of $μ$-algebras. We classify $Γ(L)$ for all Lie algebras of dimension at most three over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, providing an explicit description in each case. The resulting graphs exhibit a rich range of behaviors, depending on the structure of the derived algebra and the action of $\operatorname{ad}x$. For $L\cong \mathfrak{sl}_2(\mathbb{F}_q)$, we determine several graph invariants, including the degree sequence, clique number, chromatic number, domination number, diameter, and radius, and show that $Γ(L)$ is connected and non-planar. The graph contains a large clique formed by the nonsplit semisimple lines together with the Borel subalgebras, while the nilpotent and split semisimple lines have a more restricted adjacency structure governed by their containment in Borel subalgebras.

On separability of Tatra association schemes
A Tatra association scheme is an association scheme arising from a symmetric bilinear form defined on the equivalence classes of nonzero $2$-dimensional vectors modulo some subgroup of the multiplicative group of a finite field. In the present paper, we prove that every such association scheme is $2$-separable, i.e. it is determined up to isomorphism by the tensor of its $2$-dimensional intersection numbers.
Spectrum of the Unit-Graph on $\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$
In this paper, we investigate the spectrum of the unit-graph of the ring of $3 \times 3$ matrices over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, which is equivalently the Cayley digraph $ \mathrm{Cay}\!\left((\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q),+), \mathrm{GL}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)\right)$. This unit-graph has a vertex set $\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$ with a directed edge from $A$ to $B$ whenever $B - A \in \mathrm{GL}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$. Then, two vertices are adjacent precisely when their difference is invertible. With relevant character theory, we consequently demonstrate that the adjacency spectrum of $ \mathrm{Cay}\!\left((\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q),+), \mathrm{GL}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)\right) $ consists of four distinct eigenvalues together with their multiplicities. Using the Spectral Gap Theorem for Cayley digraphs, we show that if two subsets of vertices in $\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$ are sufficiently large, then there are matrices in the two subsets whose difference lies in $\mathrm{GL}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$. In particular, any sufficiently large subset of $\mathrm{Mat}_3(\mathbb{F}_q)$ contains two distinct matrices whose difference has nonzero determinant. This spectral gap implies that large vertex sets cannot avoid each other and must be connected by at least one edge.

Classification of isomorphism classes of lattices from Construction A and B
In this paper, we completely classify the isomorphism classes of certain lattices $L_A(C)$ and $L_B(C)$ from a self-orthogonal code $C$ over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$, where $p$ is an odd prime. These lattices are obtained by \emph{Construction A} and \emph{B} for a code $C$ over $\mathbb{F}_p$ introduced by Lam and Shimakura, which arose from a study of orbifolds of lattice vertex operator algebras. For self-orthogonal codes $C$ and $D$ of the same length over $\mathbb{F}_p$, we show that $L_X(C) \cong L_X(C)$ as lattices if and only if $C \cong D$ as codes, where $X=A$ or $B$. This can be expected to be lattice analogues of classifications of the isomorphism classes of lattice vertex operator algebras and its orbifolds. To prove the result, we generalize the notion of a frame of a lattice and define some codes which are analogues of codes constructed from Kleinian codes studied by H{ö}hn.

A bibasic double sum extension of a $q$-binomial theorem arising out of subspace enumeration
We prove a conjecture that arose in the context of a subspace enumeration problem over finite fields. We prove, more generally, a bibasic, double-sum identity, which extends a $q$-analogue of the (terminating) binomial theorem.

An improved non-linear Roth-type theorem in finite fields
Let $F$ be a finite field of odd characteristic. We prove that any set $A\subset F$ with $|A|\geq C|F|^{5/6}$ contains a nontrivial quadratic progression $(x, x+y, x+y^2), y\neq 0.$ For prime fields, this improves the previous best-known exponent of $7/8$, due to Kavrut and Wu. Unlike some of the previous papers, which rely on Katz's deep multivariate exponential-sum estimates, our argument uses only one-variable Weil-type estimates. We also construct, over certain non-prime finite fields, progression-free sets of size $c|F|^{2/3}$. A key idea in the proof was suggested to the author by ChatGPT 5.5.
Irreducible Ferrers diagrams in the Etzion-Silberstein conjecture
The Etzion-Silberstein conjecture asserts that, for any finite field $\mathbb F$, Ferrers diagram $\mathcal D$, and integer $d$, there exists a linear matrix code supported on $\mathcal D$ with minimum rank distance $d$ that attains a natural upper bound on its dimension. Codes achieving this bound are called maximum Ferrers diagram (MFD) codes. While the conjecture has been established for several classes of diagrams (including rectangular, monotone, and MDS-constructible cases), it remains open in general. In this paper, we study the reducibility of Ferrers diagrams. For a fixed distance $d$, a diagram $\mathcal D$ is said to reduce to $\mathcal D'$ if an MFD code for $(\mathcal D,d)$ can be obtained from one for $(\mathcal D',d)$ via shortening or inclusion. Diagrams that are not reducible are called irreducible. We show that the conjecture holds for all diagrams if and only if it holds for irreducible ones, thereby reducing the problem to this fundamental class. Our main result provides a complete characterization of irreducible diagrams: for each $d$, they correspond exactly to the integer points of a polytope $\mathfrak{P}_d \subset \mathbb{R}^{2d-3}$. We prove that these polytopes are integral, enabling the use of Ehrhart-theoretic tools to study their structure. Finally, we formulate a new conjecture on puncturing and inclusion of maximum rank distance codes, and show that it arises as a special case of the Etzion-Silberstein conjecture.

Subgroups of Finite Fields As Cap Sets
We show the subgroup of 20 nonzero fourth powers in the finite field of order 81 is a cap set. Similarly, the subgroup of 9 nonzero seventh powers in the field of order 64 is a cap set. These are the cases related to the card games of SET and EvenQuads, and both are known to be maximal cap sets. A corollary is that the cosets of these subgroups form a partition by maximal caps of the multiplicative groups of their respective fields. We identify certain multiplicative subgroups of fields of orders 243 and 729 as cap sets, and show in general that the subgroup of $(2^n-1)$-th powers is a cap set in the field of order $2^{2n}$.
Orbits and incidence matrices for points, planes and lines regarding the twisted cubic in PG(3,q), q = 2, 3, 4
In the three-dimensional projective space PG(3,q) over the finite field F_q with q elements, we consider the normal rational curve known as a twisted cubic and the projectivity group G_q that fixes it. For q = 2, 3, 4, we solve the open problems of classifying the orbits of points, planes, and lines under G_q and of determining the corresponding incidence matrices between points, planes, and lines partitioned into these orbits.

Explicit Rank Extractors and Subspace Designs via Function Fields, with Applications to Strong Blocking Sets
We give new explicit constructions of several fundamental objects in linear-algebraic pseudorandomness and combinatorics, including lossless rank extractors, weak subspace designs, and strong $s$-blocking sets over finite fields. Our focus is on the small-field regime, where the field size depends only on a secondary parameter (such as the rank or codimension) and is independent of the ambient dimension. This regime is central to several applications, yet remains poorly understood from the perspective of explicit constructions. In this setting, we obtain the first explicit constructions of lossless rank extractors and weak subspace designs for $r\ll k$, where $r$ denotes the rank (or codimension), over finite fields $\mathbb{F}_q$ with $q \ge \mathrm{poly}(r)$ and $q$ non-prime, with near-optimal parameters. For other finite fields, including prime fields and small fields, we obtain weaker but still improved bounds. As a consequence, we construct explicit strong $s$-blocking sets in $\mathrm{PG}(k-1,q)$ of size $O(s(k-s)q^s)$ for all sufficiently large non-prime fields $q \ge \mathrm{poly}(s)$, matching the best known non-explicit bounds up to constant factors. This significantly improves the previous best bound $2^{O(s^2 \log s)} q^s k$ of Bishnoi and Tomon (Combinatorica, 2026), which requires $q \ge 2^{Ω(s)}$. Our approach is primarily algebraic, combining techniques from function fields and polynomial identity testing. In addition, we develop a complementary Fourier-analytic framework based on $\varepsilon$-biased sets, which yields improved explicit constructions of strong $s$-blocking sets over small fields.

The nature of the spectrum of generalized Paley graphs and weak Waring numbers over finite fields
We consider the family of generalized Paley graphs (GP-graphs for short) $Γ(k,q) = Cay(\mathbb{F}_q, (\mathbb{F}_q^*)^k)$, with $q=p^m$ and $p$ prime. We characterize all GP-graphs having real spectrum; namely, $Spec(Γ(k,q)) \subset \mathbb{R}$ if and only if $Γ(k,q)$ is undirected. We then study conditions for integrality in the spectrum and give a general method to produce integral GP-graphs through cyclotomic polynomials. Using this, we construct several infinite families of integral GP-graphs. Next, we focus on directed GP-graphs (GP-digraphs). We show that GP-digraphs always have three or more eigenvalues, and then we prove that there is only one kind of GP-digraphs having three different eigenvalues: the oriented Paley graphs $\vec{\mathcal{P}}_q$ or disjoint unions of copies of them, $\vec{\mathcal{P}}_q \cup \cdots \cup \vec{\mathcal{P}}_q$. Then, we show that generically the GP-digraphs have period 1 (equivalently index of imprimitivity 1) except for $Γ(q-1,q)$ with $q$ odd, which is the disjoint union of oriented $p$-cycles, having period $p$. Finally, as an application, we study weak Waring numbers over finite fields through GP-graphs. In particular, we reduce the computation of the weak Waring numbers over finite fields to the computation of classic Waring numbers over finite fields, a result previously obtained by Cochrane and Cipra in 2012 by other means.

On the Furstenberg-Katznelson constant for the IP Szemeredi theorem over finite fields
Bergelson et al. observed that Furstenberg's proof of Szemeredi's theorem provides a positive lower bound on the density of arithmetic progressions in sets of positive density in the integers. Namely, for every $δ\in(0,1]$ and every $k\in \mathbb{N}$, there exists a positive constant $c=c(k,δ)>0$ such that $$\{n\in \mathbb{N} : d(E\cap (E-n)\cap\dots\cap (E-(k-1)n))>c(k,δ)\} \neq \emptyset$$ whenever $d(E)\ge δ$. Similarly, Furstenberg and Katznelson proved the IP Szemeredi theorem, establishing in particular the existence of a constant $c_{\mathrm{IP}}=c_{\mathrm{IP}}(k,δ)>0$ such that $$\{n\in \mathbb{N} : d(E\cap (E-n)\cap\dots\cap (E-(k-1)n))>c_{\mathrm{IP}}(k,δ)\}$$ is $\mathrm{IP}^*$ whenever $d(E)\ge δ$. In this paper, we study analogues of $c$ and $c_{\mathrm{IP}}$ and their ergodic-theoretic counterparts, $c^{\mathrm{rec}}$ and $c_{\mathrm{IP}}^{\mathrm{rec}}$, for vector spaces over finite fields. We provide a qualitative result and in special cases such as Roth's theorem and the IP-Roth theorem, we also provide strong quantitative bounds for these constants. Our tools are primarily ergodic theoretic; we study the characteristic factors and limit of multiple ergodic averages along $\mathrm{IP}$s in vector spaces over finite fields.

Hall-Littlewood-positive harmonic functionals on the algebra of symmetric functions
We study the problem of describing the set of real functionals on the quotient $\textrm{Sym}/(p_2-1)$ of the ring of symmetric functions that are nonnegative on the images of certain modified Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions. This question is equivalent to the problem, posed in [Adv Math 395, p.108087 (2022)], of describing the set of coadjoint-invariant measures for unitary groups over a finite field in the infinite-dimensional setting. Our main results constitute partial progress towards this problem. Firstly, we show that the desired set of functionals is very large, in the sense that it contains explicit families of examples depending on infinitely many parameters. Secondly, we provide an analogue of Kerov's mixing construction that produces new sought after functionals from known old ones. This construction depends on an explicit "$p_2$-twisted action" of $\textrm{Sym}$ on itself and the resulting dual map that makes $\textrm{Sym}$ into a comodule. Finally, our third main result explains the relation between the $p_2$-twisted comultiplication and the usual comultiplication on $\textrm{Sym}$.

Extensions of the Carlitz-McConnel and Blokhuis-Sziklai theorems for unions of cyclotomic classes
Let $p$ be a prime, let $q=p^n$, and let $D\subseteq \mathbb{F}_q^\ast$. A celebrated result of Carlitz and McConnel states that if $D$ is a proper subgroup of $\mathbb{F}_q^\ast$, and $f:\mathbb{F}_q\to\mathbb{F}_q$ is a function such that $(f(x)-f(y))/(x-y)\in D$ for all $x\neq y$, then $f$ must be of the form $f(x)=ax^{p^j}+b$. In this paper, we extend their result to the setting where $D$ is a union of cosets of a fixed subgroup of $\mathbb{F}_q^\ast$, under a mild assumption. In a similar spirit, we also investigate maximum cliques in related Cayley graphs over finite fields, strengthening several results of Blokhuis, Sziklai, and Asgarli and Yip.

Extremal graph theory and point configurations in Ahlfors-David regular sets
We study the problem of embedding bipartite graphs in Ahlfors-David regular sets of large dimension using results from extremal graph theory. Our main theorem states that any graph satisfying a power-improving bound on the extremal number can be found in the distance graph of a sufficiently high-dimensional AD-regular set. In particular, we show that AD-regular sets of dimension greater than $\frac{d+1}{2}$ must contain even cycles of all lengths if $d\geq 3$, and must contain even cycles of length at least 6 if $d=2$. This improves the best known threshold for the problem in $d\geq 4$, and yields entirely new results in $d=2,3$, under the extra assumption of AD-regularity. We also prove analogous results for large subsets of vector spaces over finite fields, which improve the best known exponent for even cycles in all dimensions.
On Generalizations of Maiorana-McFarland and $\mathcal{PS}_{ap}$ Functions
We study generalizations of two classical primary constructions of Boolean bent functions, namely the Maiorana-McFarland ($MM$) class and the (Desarguesian) partial spread ($\mathcal{PS}_{ap}$) class. The construction of bent functions lying outside the completed $MM$ class has attracted considerable attention in recent years. In this direction, we construct families of generalized Maiorana--McFarland bent functions that are not equivalent to any function in the classical $MM$ or $\mathcal{PS}_{ap}$ classes, and hence lie outside their completed classes. As a second contribution, we investigate the decomposition of generalized $\mathcal{PS}_{ap}$ functions. We prove that when the degree is sufficiently small relative to the size of the underlying finite field, such functions do not, in general, admit a decomposition into bent or semibent functions. Consequently, they cannot be obtained from known secondary constructions based on concatenation. Finally, we present a secondary construction of Boolean bent functions arising from the concatenation of components of vectorial generalized $\mathcal{PS}_{ap}$ functions. Our constructions and proofs rely on classical results concerning second-order derivatives of bent functions and their duals. In addition, we employ methods from the theory of algebraic curves and their function fields.
Resonances on geometrically finite graphs
In analogy with the spectral theory of geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds, we initiate the study of resonances on geometrically finite (q+1)-regular graphs of groups. We prove the meromorphic continuation of the resolvent of the adjacency operator on such spaces and give a geometric characterization of the resonant states. In contrast to the hyperbolic surfaces setting, geometrically finite graphs have only finitely many resonances and may be computed explicitly, yet exhibit many of the same qualitative phenomena as in the hyperbolic manifolds setting. Particularly interesting examples arise from algebraic curves over finite fields.

On $U$-unitary Cayley graphs over finite rings
Graphs defined over a finite ring are well-studied in the literature. Due to their nature, these types of graphs connect several branches of mathematics, including algebra, number theory, matrix theory, and representation theory. In recent work, we studied $U$-unitary Cayley graphs over a finite commutative ring, which unifies several constructions of graphs with arithmetic origins. Among various structural graph-theoretic results on these graphs--such as their connectedness, primeness, and bipartiteness--we show that their spectra can be described via a certain supercharacter theory. Utilizing this spectral description, we are able to find some classes of gcd-graphs that possess perfect state transfer. In this article, we generalize this study to finite non-commutative rings, with a special focus on the case of the matrix rings with coefficients in a finite field. We show, in particular, that gcd-graphs over these matrix rings have no perfect state transfer.
Parabolic distance in $\mathbb F_q^2$: a sharp exponent and new results
We study the parabolic variant of the Erd\H os--Falconer distance problem in finite fields. That is, if $q$ is odd, we seek size thresholds beyond which any subset $E\subset \mathbb F_q^2$ will determine many distinct parabolic distances. This problem has a rich history because the parabolic distance functional shares many properties with the standard distance functional, but exhibits many distinct behaviors. Here we begin with rather standard Fourier analytic arguments, but diverge into additive combinatorics to handle the central obstructions. We provide a suite of positive results and corresponding sharpness examples.
Structural Redundancy in Subspace Network Coding via Atomic Decompositions
Random linear network coding (RLNC) provides a powerful framework for non-coherent communication, where reliable transmission requires correcting errors and erasures induced by network mixing and motivates the use of subspace codes. In this work, we introduce an atomic perspective on subspace coding by formalizing the notion of minimal atomic decompositions in the lattice L(V ) of subspaces of a finite-dimensional vector space over a finite field. We study the function N that assigns to each subspace the number of its minimal atomic decompositions and establish its key structural properties. Leveraging N, we define a new distance metric on L(V ) that refines classical subspace comparisons by capturing atomic-level overlap. We then introduce the Atomic Operator Channel, a transmission model for RLNC in which codewords are conveyed through atomic decompositions and corruption is modeled via atomic insertions and erasures. Within this framework, we prove a minimum-distance decoding guarantee for the induced metric. In the constant-dimension setting, we show that the classical unique-decodability condition under the subspace distance remains sufficient for unique decoding under the atomic metric.
