Percolation through Isoperimetry
We provide a sufficient condition on the isoperimetric properties of a regular graph $G$ of growing degree $d$, under which the random subgraph $G_p$ typically undergoes a phase transition around $p=\frac{1}{d}$ which resembles the emergence of a giant component in the binomial random graph model $G(n,p)$. We further show that this condition is tight. More precisely, let $d=ω(1)$, let $ε>0$ be a small enough constant, and let $p \cdot d=1+ε$. We show that if $C$ is sufficiently large and $G$ is a $d$-regular $n$-vertex graph where every subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ of order at most $\frac{n}{2}$ has edge-boundary of size at least $C|S|$, then $G_p$ typically has a unique linear sized component, whose order is asymptotically $y(ε)n$, where $y(ε)$ is the survival probability of a Galton-Watson tree with offspring distribution Po$(1+ε)$. We further give examples to show that this result is tight both in terms of its dependence on $C$, and with respect to the order of the second-largest component. We also consider a more general setting, where we only control the expansion of sets up to size $k$. In this case, we show that if $G$ is such that every subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ of order at most $k$ has edge-boundary of size at least $d|S|$ and $p$ is such that $p\cdot d \geq 1 + ε$, then $G_p$ typically contains a component of order $Ω(k)$.

Proper Minor-Closed Classes of Graphs have Assouad-Nagata Dimension 2
Asymptotic dimension and Assouad-Nagata dimension are measures of the large-scale shape of a class of graphs. Bonamy, Bousquet, Esperet, Groenland, Liu, Pirot, and Scott [J. Eur. Math. Society] showed that any proper minor-closed class has asymptotic dimension 2, dropping to 1 only if the treewidth is bounded. We improve this result by showing it also holds for the stricter Assouad-Nagata dimension. We also characterise when subdivision-closed classes of graphs have bounded Assouad-Nagata dimension.

Multicolor Ramsey numbers on stars versus pat
For given simple graphs $H_1,H_2,\dots,H_c$, the multicolor Ramsey number $R(H_1,H_2,\dots,H_c)$ is defined as the smallest positive integer $n$ such that for an arbitrary edge-decomposition $\{G_i\}^c_{i=1}$ of the complete graph $K_n$, at least one $G_i$ has a subgraph isomorphic to $H_i$. Let $m,n_1,n_2,\dots,n_c$ be positive integers and $Σ=\sum_{i=1}^{c}(n_i-1)$. Some bounds and exact values of $R(K_{1,n_1},\dots,K_{1,n_c},P_m)$ have been obtained in literature. Wang (Graphs Combin., 2020) conjectured that if $Σ\not\equiv 0\pmod{m-1}$ and $Σ+1\ge (m-3)^2$, then $R(K_{1,n_1},\ldots, K_{1,n_c}, P_m)=Σ+m-1.$ In this note, we give a new lower bound and some exact values of $R(K_{1,n_1},\dots,K_{1,n_c},P_m)$ when $m\leqΣ$, $Σ\equiv k\pmod{m-1}$, and $2\leq k \leq m-2$. These results partially confirm Wang's conjecture.

Super approximation for $\text{SL}_2\times \text{SL}_2$ and $\text{ASL}_2$
Let $S\subset \text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\times \text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)$ or $\text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\ltimes \mathbb Z^2$ be finite symmetric and assume $S$ generates a group $G$ which is a Zariski-dense subgroup $\text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\times \text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)$ or $\text{SL}_2(\mathbb Z)\ltimes \mathbb Z^2$. We prove that the Cayley graphs $$\{\mathcal Cay(G(\text{mod } q), S (\text{mod } q))\}_{q\in \mathbb Z}$$ form a family of expanders.

Parity conditions for one-way rail networks
We present parity conditions under which a toy rail network is one-way, i.e., whether a direction can be assigned across the network so that all train journeys are completely consistent with it or completely consistent with its opposite. We show that this problem is equivalent to determining the balance of a signed graph obtained from the network, whose edges are assigned positive or negative signs. Using signed-graph theory, we derive two equivalent parity conditions for one-wayness: (i) every cycle must contain an even number of edges that join the same sides of switches, and (ii) every cycle must contain an even number of angles at switches. Signed-graph theory also offers an analytical criterion: A connected network is one-way if and only if the smallest eigenvalue of its signed Laplacian matrix is zero, suggesting a computational tool for evaluating one-wayness.

The degree threshold for covering with all the connected $3$-graphs with $3$ edges
Given two $r$-uniform hypergraphs $F$ and $H$, we say that $H$ has an $F$-covering if every vertex in $H$ is contained in a copy of $F$. Let $c_{i}(n,F)$ be the least integer such that every $n$-vertex $r$-graph $H$ with $δ_{i}(H)>c_i(n,F)$ has an $F$-covering. Falgas-Ravry, Markstöm and Zhao (Combin. Probab. Comput., 2021) asymptotically determined $c_1(n,K_{4}^{(3)-})$, where $K_{4}^{(3)-}$ is obtained by deleting an edge from the complete $3$-graph on $4$ vertices. Later, Tang, Ma and Hou (arXiv, 2022) asymptotically determined $c_1(n,C_{6}^{(3)})$, where $C_{6}^{(3)}$ is the linear triangle, i.e. $C_{6}^{(3)}=([6],\{123,345,561\})$. In this paper, we determine $c_1(n,F_5)$ asymptotically, where $F_5$ is the generalized triangle, i.e. $F_5=([5],\{123,124,345\})$. We also determine the exact values of $c_1(n,F)$, where $F$ is any connected $3$-graphs with $3$ edges and $F\notin\{K_4^{(3)-}, C_{6}^{(3)}, F_5\}$.
Improved bounds for embedding certain configurations in subsets of vector spaces over finite fields
The fourth listed author and Hans Parshall (\cite{IosevichParshall}) proved that if $E \subset {\mathbb F}_q^d$, $d \ge 2$, and $G$ is a connected graph on $k+1$ vertices such that the largest degree of any vertex is $m$, then if $|E| \ge C q^{m+\frac{d-1}{2}}$, for any $t>0$, there exist $k+1$ points $x^1, \dots, x^{k+1}$ in $E$ such that $||x^i-x^j||=t$ if the $i$'th vertex is connected to the $j$'th vertex by an edge in $G$. In this paper, we give several indications that the maximum degree is not always the right notion of complexity and prove several concrete results to obtain better exponents than the Iosevich-Parshall result affords. This can be viewed as a step towards understanding the right notion of complexity for graph embeddings in subsets of vector spaces over finite fields.

Hypergraphs with irrational Turán density and many extremal configurations
Unlike graphs, determining Turán densities of hypergraphs is known to be notoriously hard in general. The essential reason is that for many classical families of $r$-uniform hypergraphs $\mathcal{F}$, there are perhaps many near-extremal $\mathcal{M}_t$-free configurations with very different structure. Such a phenomenon is called not stable, and Liu and Mubayi gave a first not stable example. Another perhaps reason is that little is known about the set consisting of all possible Turán densities which has cardinality of the continuum. Let $t\ge 2$ be an integer. In this paper, we construct a finite family $\mathcal{M}_t$ of 3-uniform hypergraphs such that the Turán density of $\mathcal{M}_t$ is irrational, and there are $t$ near-extremal $\mathcal{M}_t$-free configurations that are far from each other in edit-distance. This is the first not stable example that has an irrational Turán density. It also provides a new phenomenon about feasible region functions.

More on the $2$-restricted optimal pebbling number
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph. A function $f:V\rightarrow \mathbb{N}\cup \{0\}$ is called a configuration of pebbles on the vertices of $G$ and the weight of $f$ is $w(f)=\sum_{u\in V}f(u)$ which is just the total number of pebbles assigned to vertices. A pebbling step from a vertex $u$ to one of its neighbors $v$ reduces $f(u)$ by two and increases $f(v)$ by one. A pebbling configuration $f$ is said to be solvable if for every vertex $ v $, there exists a sequence (possibly empty) of pebbling moves that results in a pebble on $v$. A pebbling configuration $f$ is a $t$-restricted pebbling configuration (abbreviated $t$RPC) if $f(v)\leq t$ for all $v\in V$. The $t$-restricted optimal pebbling number $π_t^*(G)$ is the minimum weight of a solvable $t$RPC on $G$. Chellali et.al. [Discrete Appl. Math. 221 (2017) 46-53] characterized connected graphs $G$ having small $2$-restricted optimal pebbling numbers and characterization of graphs $G$ with $π_2^*(G)=5$ stated as an open problem. In this paper, we solve this problem. We improve the upper bound of the $2$-restricted optimal pebbling number of trees of order $n$. Also, we study $2$-restricted optimal pebbling number of some grid graphs, corona and neighborhood corona of two specific graphs.

A note on removable edges in near-bricks
Published in Discrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, vol. 26:2, Graph Theory (June 19, 2024) dmtcs:11747 • View PublicationBIB
An edge $e$ of a matching covered graph $G$ is removable if $G-e$ is also matching covered. Carvalho, Lucchesi, and Murty showed that every brick $G$ different from $K_4$ and $\overline{C_6}$ has at least $Δ-2$ removable edges, where $Δ$ is the maximum degree of $G$. In this paper, we generalize the result to irreducible near-bricks, where a graph is irreducible if it contains no single ear of length three or more.

Bounding Clique Size in Squares of Planar Graphs
Published in European Journal of Combinatorics. Vol. 120. August 2024. Article 103960 • Search Publication
Wegner conjectured that if $G$ is a planar graph with maximum degree $Δ\ge 8$, then $χ(G^2)\le \left\lfloor \frac32Δ\right\rfloor +1$. This problem has received much attention, but remains open for all $Δ\ge 8$. Here we prove an analogous bound on $ω(G^2)$: If $G$ is a plane graph with $Δ(G)\ge 36$, then $ω(G^2)\le \lfloor\frac32Δ(G)\rfloor+1$. In fact, this is a corollary of the following lemma, which is our main result. If $G$ is a plane graph with $Δ(G)\ge 19$ and $S$ is a maximal clique in $G^2$ with $|S|\ge Δ(G)+20$, then there exist $x,y,z\in V(G)$ such that $S=\{w:|N[w]\cap\{x,y,z\}|\ge 2\}$.
The damage number of the Cartesian product of graphs
We consider a variation of Cops and Robber, introduced in [D. Cox and A. Sanaei, The damage number of a graph, [Aust. J. of Comb. 75(1) (2019) 1-16] where vertices visited by a robber are considered damaged and a single cop aims to minimize the number of distinct vertices damaged by a robber. Motivated by the interesting relationships that often emerge between input graphs and their Cartesian product, we study the damage number of the Cartesian product of graphs. We provide a general upper bound and consider the damage number of the product of two trees or cycles. We also consider graphs with small damage number.

Exploring Metric and Strong Metric Dimensions in Inclusion Ideal Graphs of Commutative Rings
The inclusion ideal graph of a commutative unitary ring $R$ is the (undirected) graph $In(R)$ whose vertices all non-trivial ideals of $R$ and two distinct vertices are adjacent if and only if one of them is a proper subset of the other one. In this paper, the metric dimension of $In(R)$ is discussed. Moreover, the structure of the resolving graph of $In(R)$ is characterized and as an application, we compute the strong metric dimension of $In(R)$.

On diversifying stable assignments
We consider the stable assignment problem on a graph with nonnegative real capacities on the edges and quotas on the vertices, in which the preferences of agents are given via diversifying choice functions. We prove that for any input of the problem, there exists exactly one stable assignment, and propose a polynomial time algorithm to find it.

A tight linear chromatic bound for ($P_3\cup P_2, W_4$)-free graphs
For two vertex disjoint graphs $H$ and $F$, we use $H\cup F$ to denote the graph with vertex set $V(H)\cup V(F)$ and edge set $E(H)\cup E(F)$, and use $H+F$ to denote the graph with vertex set $V(H)\cup V(F)$ and edge set $E(H)\cup E(F)\cup\{xy\;|\; x\in V(H), y\in V(F)$$\}$. A $W_4$ is the graph $K_1+C_4$. In this paper, we prove that $χ(G)\le 2ω(G)$ if $G$ is a ($P_3\cup P_2, W_4$)-free graph. This bound is tight when $ω=2$ and $3$, and improves the main result of Wang and Zhang. Also, this bound partially generalizes some results of Prashant {\em et al.}.

Slitherlink Signatures
Let $G$ be a planar graph and let $C$ be a cycle in $G$. Inside of each finite face of $G$, we write down the number of edges of that face which belong to $C$. This is the signature of $C$ in $G$. The notion of a signature arises naturally in the context of Slitherlink puzzles. The signature of a cycle does not always determine it uniquely. We focus on the ambiguity of signatures in the case when $G$ is a rectangular grid of unit square cells. We describe all grids which admit an ambiguous signature. For each such grid, we then determine the greatest possible difference between two cycles with the same signature on it. We also study the possible values of the total number of cycles which fit a given signature. We discuss various related questions as well.

Weakly and Strongly Fan-Planar Graphs
We study two notions of fan-planarity introduced by (Cheong et al., GD22), called weak and strong fan-planarity, which separate two non-equivalent definitions of fan-planarity in the literature. We prove that not every weakly fan-planar graph is strongly fan-planar, while the upper bound on the edge density is the same for both families.

Geodetic Graphs: Experiments and New Constructions
In 1962 Ore initiated the study of geodetic graphs. A graph is called geodetic if the shortest path between every pair of vertices is unique. In the subsequent years a wide range of papers appeared investigating their peculiar properties. Yet, a complete classification of geodetic graphs is out of reach. In this work we present a program enumerating all geodetic graphs of a given size. Using our program, we succeed to find all geodetic graphs with up to 25 vertices and all regular geodetic graphs with up to 32 vertices. This leads to the discovery of two new infinite families of geodetic graphs.
Characterizing bipartite distance-regularized graphs with vertices of eccentricity 4
The characterization of bipartite distance-regularized graphs, where some vertices have eccentricity less than four, in terms of the incidence structures of which they are incidence graphs, is known. In this paper we prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the incidence graphs of quasi-symmetric SPBIBDs with parameters $(v,b,r,k, λ_1,0)$ of type $(k-1,t)$ with intersection numbers $x=0$ and $y>0$, where $0< y\leq t<k$ , and bipartite distance-regularized graphs with $D=D'=4$.
