Edge-transitive core-free Nest graphs
A finite simple graph $Γ$ is called a Nest graph if it is regular of valency $6$ and admits an automorphism $ρ$ with two orbits of the same length such that at least one of the subgraphs induced by these orbits is a cycle. We say that $Γ$ is core-free if no non-trivial subgroup of the group generated by $ρ$ is normal in $\mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$. In this paper, we show that, if $Γ$ is edge-transitive and core-free, then it is isomorphic to one of the following graphs: the complement of the Petersen graph, the Hamming graph $H(2,4)$, the Shrikhande graph and a certain normal $2$-cover of $K_{3,3}$ by $\mathbb{Z}_2^4$.

Let $V$ be a finite dimensional vector space equipped with a non-degenerate Hermitian form over a field $\mathbb{K}$. Let $\mathcal{G}(V)$ be the graph with vertex set the $1$-dimensional non-degenerate subspaces of $V$ and adjacency relation given by orthogonality. We give a complete description of when $\mathcal{G}(V)$ is connected in terms of the dimension of $V$ and the size of the ground field $\mathbb{K}$. Furthermore, we prove that if $\dim(V) > 4$ then the clique complex $\mathcal{F}(V)$ of $\mathcal{G}(V)$ is simply connected. For finite fields $\mathbb{K}$, we also compute the eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix of $\mathcal{G}(V)$. Then by Garland's method, we conclude that $\tilde{H}_m(\mathcal{F}(V);\mathbb{k}) = 0$ for all $0\leq m\leq \dim(V)-3$, where $\mathbb{k}$ is a field of characteristic $0$, provided that $\dim(V)^2 \leq |\mathbb{K}|$. Under these assumptions, we deduce that the barycentric subdivision of $\mathcal{F}(V)$ deformation retracts to the order complex of the certain rank selection of $\mathcal{F}(V)$ which is Cohen-Macaulay over $\mathbb{k}$.
Finally, we apply our results to the Quillen poset of elementary abelian $p$-subgroups of a finite group and to the study of geometric properties of the poset of non-degenerate subspaces of $V$ and the poset of orthogonal decompositions of $V$.
A Generalization of the Chevalley-Warning and Ax-Katz Theorems with a View Towards Combinatorial Number Theory

We begin by explaining how arguments used by R. Wilson to give an elementary proof of the $\mathbb F_p$ case for the Ax-Katz Theorem can also be used to prove the following generalization of the Chevalley-Warning and Ax-Katz Theorems for $\mathbb F_p$, where we allow varying prime power moduli. Given any box $\mathcal B=\mathcal I_1\times\ldots\times\mathcal I_n$, with each $\mathcal I_j\subseteq\mathbb Z$ a complete system of residues modulo $p$, and a collection of nonzero polynomials $f_1,\ldots,f_s\in \mathbb Z[X_1,\ldots,X_n]$, then the set of common zeros inside the box, $$V=\{\mathbf a\in \mathcal B:\; f_1(\textbf a)\equiv 0\mod p^{m_1},\ldots,f_s(\textbf a)\equiv 0\mod p^{m_s}\},$$ satisfies $|V|\equiv 0\mod p^m$, provided $n>(m-1)\max_{i\in [1,s]}\Big\{p^{m_i-1}\mathsf{deg} f_i\Big\}+ \sum_{i=1}^{s}\frac{p^{m_i}-1}{p-1}\mathsf{deg} f_i.$ The introduction of the box $\mathcal B$ adds a degree of flexibility, in comparison to prior work of Zhi-Wei Sun. Indeed, incorporating the ideas of Sun, a weighted version of the above result is given. We continue by explaining how the added flexibility, combined with an appropriate use of Hensel's Lemma to choose the complete system of residues $\mathcal I_j$, effectively allows many combinatorial applications of the Chevalley-Warning and Ax-Katz Theorems, previously only valid for $\mathbb F_p^n$, to extend with bare minimal modification to validity for an arbitrary finite abelian $p$-group $G$. We illustrate this be giving several examples, including a new proof of the exact value of the Davenport Constant $\mathsf D(G)$ for finite abelian $p$-groups, a streamlined proof of the Kemnitz Conjecture, and the resolution of a problem of Xiaoyu He regarding zero-sums of length $k\exp(G)$ related to a conjecture of Kubertin.

We introduce generalized Hessenberg varieties and establish basic facts. We show that the Tymoczko action of the symmetric group $S_n$ on the cohomology of Hessenberg varieties extends to generalized Hessenberg varieties and that natural morphisms among them preserve the action. By analyzing natural morphisms and birational maps among generalized Hessenberg varieties, we give an elementary proof of the Shareshian-Wachs conjecture. Moreover we present a natural generalization of the Shareshian-Wachs conjecture that involves generalized Hessenberg varieties and provide an elementary proof. As a byproduct, we propose a generalized Stanley-Stembridge conjecture for weighted graphs. Our investigation into the birational geometry of generalized Hessenberg varieties enables us to modify them into much simpler varieties like projective spaces or permutohedral varieties by explicit sequences of blowups or projective bundle maps. Using this, we provide two algorithms to compute the $S_n$-representations on the cohomology of generalized Hessenberg varieties. As an application, we compute representations on the low degree cohomology of some Hessenberg varieties.

Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ be a finite field of order $q$ and $E$ be a set in $\mathbb{F}_q^d$. The distance set of $E$ is defined by $Δ(E):=\{\lVert x-y \rVert :x,y\in E\}$, where $\lVert α\rVert=α_1^2+\dots+α_d^2$. Iosevich, Koh and Parshall (2018) proved that if $d\geq 2$ is even and $|E|\geq 9q^{d/2}$, then $$\mathbb{F}_q= \frac{Δ(E)}{Δ(E)}=\left\{\frac{a}{b}: a\in Δ(E),\ b\in Δ(E)\setminus\{0\} \right\}.$$ In other words, for each $r\in \mathbb{F}_q^*$ there exist $(x,y)\in E^2$ and $(x',y')\in E^2$ such that $\lVert x-y\rVert\neq0$ and $\lVert x'-y' \rVert=r\lVert x-y\rVert$.
Geometrically, this means that if the size of $E$ is large, then for any given $r \in \mathbb{F}_q^*$ we can find a pair of edges in the complete graph $K_{|E|}$ with vertex set $E$ such that one of them is dilated by $r\in \mathbb{F}_q^*$ with respect to the other. A natural question arises whether it is possible to generalize this result to arbitrary subgraphs of $K_{|E|}$ with vertex set $E$ and this is the goal of this paper.
In this paper, we solve this problem for $k$-paths $(k\geq 2)$, simplexes and 4-cycles. We are using a mix of tools from different areas such as enumerative combinatorics, group actions and Turán type theorems.

A maniplex of rank $n$ is a combinatorial object that generalises the notion of a rank $n$ abstract polytope. A maniplex with the highest possible degree of symmetry is called reflexible. In this paper we prove that there is a rank $4$ reflexible maniplex with automorphism group $\textrm{PSL}_2(q)$ for infinitely many prime powers $q$, and that no reflexible maniplex of rank $n > 4$ exists that has $\textrm{PSL}_2(q)$ as its full automorphism group.
On the binary linear constant weight codes and their autormorphism groups
We give a characterization for the binary linear constant weight codes by using the symmetric difference of the supports of the codewords. This characterization gives a correspondence between the set of binary linear constant weight codes and the set of partitions for the union of supports of the codewords. By using this correspondence, we present a formula for the order of the automorphism group of a binary linear constant weight code in terms of its parameters. This formula is a key step to determine more algebraic structures on constant weight codes with given parameters. Bonisoli [Bonisoli, A.: Every equidistant linear code is a sequence of dual Hamming codes. Ars Combinatoria 18, 181--186 (1984)] proves that the $q$-ary linear constant weight codes with the same parameters are equivalent (for the binary case permutation equivalent). We also give an alternative proof for Bonisoli's theorem by presenting an explicit permutation on symmetric difference of the supports of the codewords which gives the permutation equivalence between the binary linear constant weight codes.

Cluster integrable systems are a broad class of integrable systems modelled on bipartite dimer models on the torus. Many discrete integrable dynamics arise by applying sequences of local transformations, which form the cluster modular group of the cluster integrable system. This cluster modular group was recently characterized by the first author and Inchiostro. There exist some discrete integrable dynamics that make use of non-local transformations associated with geometric $R$-matrices. In this article we characterize the generalized cluster modular group -- which includes both local and non-local transformations -- in terms of extended affine symmetric groups. We also describe the action of the generalized cluster modular group on the spectral data associated with cluster integrable systems.

Thomas and Williams conjectured that rowmotion acting on the rational $(a,b)$-Tamari lattice has order $a+b-1$. We construct an equivariant bijection that proves this conjecture when $b\equiv 1\pmod a$; in fact, we determine the entire orbit structure of rowmotion in this case, showing that it exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon. We additionally show that the down-degree statistic is homomesic for this action. In a different vein, we consider the action of rowmotion on Barnard and Reading's biCambrian lattices. Settling a different conjecture of Thomas and Williams, we prove that if $c$ is a bipartite Coxeter element of a coincidental-type Coxeter group $W$, then the orbit structure of rowmotion on the $c$-biCambrian lattice is the same as the orbit structure of rowmotion on the lattice of order ideals of the doubled root poset of type $W$.

Symmetric strongly shifted ideals are a class of monomial ideals which come equipped with an action of the symmetric group and are analogous to the well-studied class of strongly stable monomial ideals. In this paper we focus on algebraic and combinatorial properties of symmetric strongly shifted ideals. On the algebraic side, we elucidate properties that pertain to behavior under ideal operations, primary decomposition, and the structure of their Rees algebra. On the combinatorial side, we develop a notion of partition Borel generators which leads to connections to discrete polymatroids, convex polytopes, and permutohedral toric varieties.
Product-free sets in approximate subgroups of distal groups

Recall that a subset $X$ of a group $G$ is 'product-free' if $X^2\cap X=\varnothing$, ie if $xy\notin X$ for all $x,y\in X$. Let $G$ be a group definable in a distal structure. We prove there are constants $c>0$ and $δ\in(0,1)$ such that every finite subset $X\subseteq G$ distinct from $\{1\}$ contains a product-free subset of size at least $δ|X|^{c+1}/|X^2|^c$. In particular, every finite $k$-approximate subgroup of $G$ distinct from $\{1\}$ contains a product-free subset of density at least $δ/k^c$. The proof is short, and follows quickly from Ruzsa calculus and an iterated application of Chernikov and Starchenko's distal regularity lemma.

We prove that a group $Γ$ admits a discrete topological (equivalently, smooth) action on some simply-connected 3-manifold if and only if $Γ$ has a Cayley complex embeddable -- with certain natural restrictions -- in one of the following four 3-manifolds: (i) $\mathbb{S}^3$, (ii) $\mathbb{R}^3$, (iii) $\mathbb{S}^2 \times \mathbb{R}$, (iv) the complement of a tame Cantor set in $\mathbb{S}^3$.

Normal $2$-coverings of the finite simple groups and their generalizations
Given a finite group $G$, we say that $G$ has weak normal covering number $γ_w(G)$ if $γ_w(G)$ is the smallest integer with $G$ admitting proper subgroups $H_1,\ldots,H_{γ_w(G)}$ such that each element of $G$ has a conjugate in $H_i$, for some $i\in \{1,\ldots,γ_w(G)\}$, via an element in the automorphism group of $G$.
We prove that the weak normal covering number of every non-abelian simple group is at least $2$ and we classify the non-abelian simple groups attaining $2$. As an application, we classify the non-abelian simple groups having normal covering number $2$. We also show that the weak normal covering number of an almost simple group is at least two up to one exception.
We determine the weak normal covering number and the normal covering number of the almost simple groups having socle a sporadic simple group. Using similar methods we find the clique number of the invariably generating graph of the almost simple groups having socle a sporadic simple group.
Asymmetric colouring of locally compact permutation groups

Let $G \leq \mathrm{Sym} (X)$ for a countable set $X$. Call a colouring of $X$ asymmetric, if the identity is the only element of $G$ which preserves all colours. The motion (also called minimal degree) of $G$ is the minimal number of elements moved by an element $g \in G \setminus\{\mathrm{id}\}$. We show that every locally compact, closed permutation group with infinite motion admits an asymmetric $2$-colouring. This generalises a recent result by Babai and confirms a conjecture by Imrich, Smith, Tucker, and Watkins from 2015.
Incidence geometries with trialities coming from maps with Wilson trialities

Triality is a classical notion in geometry that arose in the context of the Lie groups of type $D_4$. Another notion of triality, Wilson triality, appears in the context of reflexible maps. We build a bridge between these two notions, showing how to construct an incidence geometry with a triality from a map that admits a Wilson triality. We also extend a result by Jones and Poulton, showing that for every prime power $q$, the group ${\rm L}_2(q^3)$ has maps that admit Wilson trialities but no dualities.
Simplex links in determinantal hypertrees

We deduce a structurally inductive description of the determinantal probability measure associated with Kalai's celebrated enumeration result for higher--dimensional spanning trees of the $n-1$--simplex. As a consequence, we derive the marginal distributions of the simplex links in such random trees. Along the way, we also characterize the higher--dimensional spanning trees of every other simplicial cone in terms of the higher--dimensional rooted forests of the underlying simplicial complex. We also apply these new results to random topology, the spectral analysis of random graphs, and the theory of high dimensional expanders. One particularly interesting corollary of these results is that the fundamental group of a union of $o(\log n)$ determinantal 2--trees has Kazhdan's property (T) with high probability.
Methods of free probability
This is a joint introduction to classical and free probability, which are twin sisters. We first review the foundations of classical probability, notably with the main limiting theorems (CLT, CCLT, PLT, CPLT), and with a look into examples coming from Lie groups and random matrices. Then we present the foundations and main results of free probability, notably with free limiting theorems, and with a look into examples coming from quantum groups and random matrices. We discuss then a number of more advanced aspects, in relation with free geometry and with subfactor theory.
A Quiver Analogue of Higman's Conjecture
An unresolved conjecture by Graham Higman states that for all $n\geq 1$ the number of conjugacy classes of the group of $n \times n$ unitriangular matrices with entries in the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ is a polynomial in $q$. In this paper we introduce a new quiver generalization of the conjecture. Motivated by this generalization, we prove that certain operations on quivers leave the relevant counts unchanged. Based on these invariance properties, we solve the introduced conjecture for quivers containing no path of length exceeding two, providing explicit formulas.
The mystery of plethysm coefficients

Composing two representations of the general linear groups gives rise to Littlewood's (outer) plethysm. On the level of characters, this poses the question of finding the Schur expansion of the plethysm of two Schur functions. A combinatorial interpretation for the Schur expansion coefficients of the plethysm of two Schur functions is, in general, still an open problem. We identify a proof technique of combinatorial representation theory, which we call the "$s$-perp trick", and point out several examples in the literature where this idea is used. We use the $s$-perp trick to give algorithms for computing monomial and Schur expansions of symmetric functions. In several special cases, these algorithms are more efficient than those currently implemented in {\sc SageMath}.
