The groups mentioned in the title are certain matrix groups of infinite size over a finite field $\mathbb F_q$. They are built from finite classical groups and at the same time they are similar to reductive $p$-adic Lie groups. In the present paper, we initiate the study of invariant measures for the coadjoint action of these infinite-dimensional groups.
We examine first the group $\mathbb{GLB}$, a topological completion of the inductive limit group $\varinjlim GL(n, \mathbb F_q)$. As was shown by Gorin, Kerov, and Vershik [arXiv:1209.4945], the traceable factor representations of $\mathbb{GLB}$ admit a complete classification, achieved in terms of harmonic functions on the Young graph $\mathbb Y$.
We show that there exists a parallel theory for ergodic coadjoint-invariant measures, which is linked with a deformed version of harmonic functions on $\mathbb Y$. Here the deformation means that the edges of $\mathbb Y$ are endowed with certain formal multiplicities coming from the simplest version of Pieri rule (multiplication by the first power sum $p_1$) for the Hall-Littlewood (HL) symmetric functions with parameter $t:=q^{-1}$.
This fact serves as a prelude to our main results, which concern topological completions of two inductive limit groups built from finite unitary groups. We show that in this case, coadjoint-invariant measures are linked to some new branching graphs. The latter are still related to the HL functions, but the novelty is that now the formal edge multiplicities come from the multiplication by $p_2$ (not $p_1$) and the HL parameter $t$ turns out to be negative (as in Ennola's duality).

Erdős and Pósa proved in 1965 that there is a duality between the maximum size of a packing of cycles and the minimum size of a vertex set hitting all cycles. Such a duality does not hold if we restrict to odd cycles. However, in 1999, Reed proved an analogue for odd cycles by relaxing packing to half-integral packing. We prove a far-reaching generalisation of the theorem of Reed; if the edges of a graph are labelled by finitely many abelian groups, then there is a duality between the maximum size of a half-integral packing of cycles whose values avoid a fixed finite set for each abelian group and the minimum size of a vertex set hitting all such cycles.
A multitude of natural properties of cycles can be encoded in this setting, for example cycles of length at least $\ell$, cycles of length $p$ modulo $q$, cycles intersecting a prescribed set of vertices at least $t$ times, and cycles contained in given $\mathbb{Z}_2$-homology classes in a graph embedded on a fixed surface. Our main result allows us to prove a duality theorem for cycles satisfying a fixed set of finitely many such properties.

The following combinatorial conjecture arises naturally from recent ergodic-theoretic work of Ackelsberg, Bergelson, and Best. Let $M_1$, $M_2$ be $k\times k$ integer matrices, $G$ be a finite abelian group of order $N$, and $A\subseteq G^k$ with $|A|\geαN^k$. If $M_1$, $M_2$, $M_1-M_2$, and $M_1+M_2$ are automorphisms of $G^k$, is it true that there exists a popular difference $d \in G^k\setminus\{0\}$ such that \[\#\{x \in G^k: x, x+M_1d, x+M_2d, x+(M_1+M_2)d \in A\} \ge (α^4-o(1))N^k.\] We show that this conjecture is false in general, but holds for $G = \mathbb{F}_p^n$ with $p$ an odd prime given the additional spectral condition that no pair of eigenvalues of $M_1M_2^{-1}$ (over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p$) are negatives of each other. In particular, the "rotated squares" pattern does not satisfy this eigenvalue condition, and we give a construction of a set of positive density in $(\mathbb{F}_5^n)^2$ for which that pattern has no nonzero popular difference. This is in surprising contrast to three-point patterns, which we handle over all compact abelian groups and which do not require an additional spectral condition.

We study security functions which can serve to establish semantic security for the two central problems of information-theoretic security: the wiretap channel, and privacy amplification for secret key generation. The security functions are functional forms of mosaics of combinatorial designs, more precisely, of group divisible designs and balanced incomplete block designs. Every member of a mosaic is associated with a unique color, and each color corresponds to a unique message or key value. Every block index of the mosaic corresponds to a public seed shared between the two trusted communicating parties. The seed set should be as small as possible. We give explicit examples which have an optimal or nearly optimal trade-off of seed length versus color (i.e., message or key) rate. We also derive bounds for the security performance of security functions given by functional forms of mosaics of designs.

We provide a variety of cases in which two factorizations have Hurwitz orbits of the same size. We begin with prototypical results about factorizations of length two, and show that cycling elements or flipping and inverting elements in any factorization preserves Hurwitz orbit size. We prove that "double reverse" factorizations in groups with special presentations have Hurwitz orbits of equal size, and end with applications to complex reflection groups.

The simplicial rook graph ${\rm \mathcal{SR}}(m,n)$ is the graph whose vertices are vectors in $ \mathbb{N}^m$ such that for each vector the summation of its coordinates is $n$ and two vertices are adjacent if their corresponding vectors differ in exactly two coordinates. Martin and Wagner (Graphs Combin. (2015) 31:1589--1611) asked about the independence number of ${\rm \mathcal{SR}}(m,n)$ that is the maximum number of non attacking rooks which can be placed on a $(m-1)$-dimensional simplicial chessboard of side length $n+1$. In this work, we solve this problem and show that $α({\rm \mathcal{SR}}(m,n))=\big(1-o(1)\big)\frac{\binom{n+m-1}{n}}{m}$. We also prove that for the domination number of rook graphs we have $γ({\rm \mathcal{SR}}(m, n))= Θ(n^{m-2})$. Moreover we show that these graphs are Hamiltonian.
The cyclic simplicial rook graph ${\rm \mathcal{CSR}}(m,n)$ is the graph whose vertices are vectors in $\mathbb{Z}^{m}_{n}$ such that for each vector the summation of its coordinates modulo $n$ is $0$ and two vertices are adjacent if their corresponding vectors differ in exactly two coordinates. In this work we determine several properties of these graphs such as independence number, chromatic number and automorphism group. Among other results, we also prove that computing the distance between two vertices of a given ${\rm \mathcal{CSR}}(m,n)$ is $ \mathbf{NP}$-hard in terms of $n$ and $m$.

A Schreier decoration is a combinatorial coding of an action of the free group $F_d$ on the vertex set of a $2d$-regular graph. We investigate whether a Schreier decoration exists on various countably infinite transitive graphs as a factor of iid.
We show that $\mathbb{Z}^d,d\geq3$, the square lattice and also the three other Archimedean lattices of even degree have finitary-factor-of-iid Schreier decorations, and exhibit examples of transitive graphs of arbitrary even degree in which obtaining such a decoration as a factor of iid is impossible.
We also prove that symmetrical planar lattices with all degrees even have a factor of iid balanced orientation, meaning the indegree of every vertex is equal to its outdegree, and demonstrate that the property of having a factor-of-iid balanced orientation is not invariant under quasi-isometry.

For a subset $A$ of $\{1,2,\ldots,N\}^2$ of size $αN^2$ we show existence of $(m,n)\neq(0,0)$ such that the set $A$ contains at least $(α^3 - o(1))N^2$ triples of points of the form $(a,b)$, $(a+m,b+n)$, $(a-n,b+m)$. This answers a question by Ackelsberg, Bergelson, and Best from arXiv:2101.02811. The same approach also establishes the corresponding result for compact abelian groups. Furthermore, for a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ we comment on exponential smallness of subsets of $(\mathbb{F}_q^n)^2$ that avoid the aforementioned configuration. The proofs are minor modifications of the existing proofs regarding three-term arithmetic progressions.
Zero sum sets in abelian groups
The distribution of cardinalities of zero-sum sets in abelian groups is completely determined. A complex summation involving the Möbius function is given for the general abelian group, while in many special cases, including the case of elementary abelian groups, solved earlier by Li and Wan, it has a compact form. The proof involves two different Möbius transforms, on positive integers and on set partitions.
The local weak limit of $k$-dimensional hypertrees

Let $\mathcal{C}(n,k)$ be the set of $k$-dimensional simplicial complexes $C$ over a fixed set of $n$ vertices such that:
(1) $C$ has a complete $k-1$-skeleton;
(2) $C$ has precisely ${{n-1}\choose {k}}$ $k$-faces;
(3) the homology group $H_{k-1}(C)$ is finite.
Consider the probability measure on $\mathcal{C}(n,k)$ where the probability of a simplicial complex $C$ is proportional to $|H_{k-1}(C)|^2$. For any fixed $k$, we determine the local weak limit of these random simplicial complexes as $n$ tends to infinity.
This local weak limit turns out to be the same as the local weak limit of the $1$-out $k$-complexes investigated by Linial and Peled.

The signed permutation modules are a simultaneous generalization of the ordinary permutation modules and the twisted permutation modules of the symmetric group. In a recent paper Dave Benson and Peter Symonds defined a new invariant $γ_G(M)$ for a finite dimensional module $M$ of a finite group $G$ which attempts to quantify how close a module is to being projective. In this paper, we determine this invariant for all the signed permutation modules of the symmetric group using tools from representation theory and combinatorics.

We determine the exact value of the optimal symmetric rate point $(r, r)$ in the Dueck zero-error capacity region of the binary adder channel with complete feedback. We proved that the average zero-error capacity $r = h(1/2-δ) \approx 0.78974$, where $h(\cdot)$ is the binary entropy function and $δ= 1/(2\log_2(2+\sqrt3))$. Our motivation is a problem in quantitative group testing. Given a set of $n$ elements two of which are defective, the quantitative group testing problem asks for the identification of these two defectives through a series of tests. Each test gives the number of defectives contained in the tested subset, and the outcomes of previous tests are assumed known at the time of designing the current test. We establish that the minimum number of tests is asymptotic to $(\log_2 n) / r$ as $n \to \infty$.

Let $Γ$ be a finite graph and let $A(Γ)$ be the corresponding right-angled Artin group. We characterize the Hamiltonicity of $Γ$ via the structure of the cohomology algebra of $A(Γ)$. In doing so, we define and develop a new canonical graph associated to a matrix, which as a consequence provides a novel perspective on the matrix determinant.
Minimal elements for the limit weak order on affine Weyl groups

The limit weak order on an affine Weyl group was introduced by Lam and Pylyavskyy in their study of total positivity for loop groups. They showed that in the case of the affine symmetric group the minimal elements of this poset coincide with the infinite fully commutative reduced words and with infinite powers of Coxeter elements. We answer several open problems raised there by classifying minimal elements in all affine types and relating these elements to the classes of fully commutative and Coxeter elements. Interestingly, the infinite fully commutative elements correspond to the minuscule and cominuscule nodes of the Dynkin diagram, while the infinite Coxeter elements correspond to a single node, which we call the heavy node, in all affine types other than type $A$.

We describe a new class of maximal cliques, with a vector space structure, of Cayley graphs defined on the additive group of a field. In particular, we show that in the cubic Paley graph with order $q^3$, the subfield with $q$ elements forms a maximal clique. Similar statements also hold for quadruple Paley graphs and Peisert graphs with quartic order.

Algebraic properties of configuration sets for groups
Let $G$ be any group and $k\geq 1$ be an integer number. The ordered configuration set of $k$ points in $G$ is given by the subset $F(G,k)=\{(g_1,\ldots,g_k)\in G\times \cdots\times G: g_i\neq g_j \text{ for } i\neq j\}\subset G^k$. In this work, we will study the configuration set $F(G,k)$ in algebraic terms as a subset of the product $G^k=G\times \cdots\times G$. As we will see, we develop practical tools for dealing with the configuration set of $k$ points in $G$, which, to our knowledge, can not be found in literature.
Automorphism Groups and Isometries for Cyclic Orbit Codes

We study orbit codes in the field extension ${\mathbb F}_{q^n}$. First we show that the automorphism group of a cyclic orbit code is contained in the normalizer of the Singer subgroup if the orbit is generated by a subspace that is not contained in a proper subfield of ${\mathbb F}_{q^n}$. We then generalize to orbits under the normalizer of the Singer subgroup. In that situation some exceptional cases arise and some open cases remain. Finally we characterize linear isometries between such codes.
Quasi-solvable lattice models for $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$ and $\mathrm{SO}_{2n+1}$ Demazure atoms and characters

We construct colored lattice models whose partition functions represent symplectic and odd orthogonal Demazure characters and atoms. We show that our lattice models are not solvable, but we are able to show the existence of sufficiently many solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation that allows us to compute functional equations for the corresponding partition functions. From these functional equations, we determine that the partition function of our models are the Demazure atoms and characters for the symplectic and odd orthogonal Lie groups. We coin our lattice models as quasi-solvable. We use the natural bijection of admissible states in our models with Proctor patterns to give a right key algorithm for reverse King tableaux and Sundaram tableaux.
