We report about the results of the application of modern computer algebra tools for construction of directed strongly regular graphs. The suggested techniques are based on the investigation of non-commutative association schemes and Cayley graphs over non-Abelian groups. We demonstrate examples of directed strongly regular graphs for 28 different parameter sets, for which the existence of a corresponding digraph has not been known before.
Kőnig's Line Coloring and Vizing's Theorems for Graphings
The classical theorem of Vizing states that every graph of maximum degree $d$ admits an edge-coloring with at most $d+1$ colors. Furthermore, as it was earlier shown by Kőnig, $d$ colors suffice if the graph is bipartite.
We investigate the existence of measurable edge-colorings for graphings. A graphing is an analytic generalization of a bounded-degree graph that appears in various areas, such as sparse graph limits, orbit equivalence theory and measurable group theory. We show that every graphing of maximum degree $d$ admits a measurable edge-coloring with $d + O(\sqrt{d})$ colors; furthermore, if the graphing has no odd cycles, then $d+1$ colors suffice. In fact, if a certain conjecture about finite graphs that strengthens Vizing's theorem is true, then our method will show that $d+1$ colors are always enough.
Nowhere-zero flows on signed eulerian graphs
This paper is devoted to a detailed study of nowhere-zero flows on signed eulerian graphs. We generalise the well-known fact about the existence of nowhere-zero $2$-flows in eulerian graphs by proving that every signed eulerian graph that admits an integer nowhere-zero flow has a nowhere-zero $4$-flow. We also characterise signed eulerian graphs with flow number $2$, $3$, and $4$, as well as those that do not have an integer nowhere-zero flow. Finally, we discuss the existence of nowhere-zero $A$-flows on signed eulerian graphs for an arbitrary abelian group~$A$.
Enumeration of monochromatic three term arithmetic progressions in two-colorings of cyclic groups
One of the toughest problems in Ramsey theory is to determine the existence of monochromatic arithmetic progressions in groups whose elements have been colored. We study the harder problem to not only determine the existence of monochromatic arithmetic progressions, but to also count them. We reformulate the enumeration in real algebraic geometry and then use state of the art computational methods in semidefinite programming and representation theory to derive sharp, or an explicit constant from sharp, lower bounds for the cyclic group of any order.
Enumeration of monochromatic three term arithmetic progressions in two-colorings of any finite group
There are many extremely challenging problems about existence of monochromatic arithmetic progressions in colorings of groups. Many theorems hold only for abelian groups as results on non-abelian groups are often much more difficult to obtain. In this research project we do not only determine existence, but study the more general problem of counting them. We formulate the enumeration problem as a problem in real algebraic geometry and then use state of the art computational methods in semidefinite programming and representation theory to derive lower bounds for the number of monochromatic arithmetic progressions in any finite group.

A $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard code of length $α+2β=2^t$ is a binary Hadamard code which is the Gray map image of a $Z_2Z_4$-additive code with $α$ binary coordinates and $β$ quaternary coordinates. It is known that there are exactly $[(t-1)/2]$ and $[t/2]$ nonequivalent $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard codes of length $2^t$, with $α=0$ and $α\not=0$, respectively, for all $t\geq 3$. In this paper, it is shown that each $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard code with $α=0$ is equivalent to a $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard code with $α\not=0$; so there are only $[t/2]$ nonequivalent $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard codes of length $2^t$. Moreover, the order of the monomial automorphism group for the $Z_2Z_4$-additive Hadamard codes and the permutation automorphism group of the corresponding $Z_2Z_4$-linear Hadamard codes are given.

The action of a Coxeter group $W$ on the set of left cosets of a standard parabolic subgroup deforms to define a module $\mathcal{M}^J$ of the group's Iwahori-Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}$ with a particularly simple form. Rains and Vazirani have introduced the notion of a quasiparabolic set to characterize $W$-sets for which analogous deformations exist; a motivating example is the conjugacy class of fixed point free involutions in the symmetric group. Deodhar has shown that the module $\mathcal{M}^J$ possesses a certain antilinear involution, called the bar operator, and a certain basis invariant under this involution, which generalizes the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of $\mathcal{H}$. The well-known significance of this basis in representation theory makes it natural to seek to extend Deodhar's results to the quasiparabolic setting. In general, the obstruction to finding such an extension is the existence of an appropriate quasiparabolic analogue of the "bar operator." In this paper, we consider the most natural definition of a quasiparabolic bar operator, and develop a theory of "quasiparabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig bases" under the hypothesis that such a bar operator exists. Giving content to this theory, we prove that a bar operator in the desired sense does exist for quasiparabolic $W$-sets given by twisted conjugacy classes of twisted involutions. Finally, we prove several results classifying the quasiparabolic conjugacy classes in a Coxeter group.

Chapuy and Stump have given a nice generating series for the number of factorisations of a Coxeter element as a product of reflections. Their method is to evaluate case by case a character-theoretic expression. The goal of this note is to give a uniform evaluation of their character-theoretic expression in the case of Weyl groups, by using combinatorial properties of Deligne-Lusztig representations.

A theorem of Ryan and Wolper states that a type A Schubert variety is smooth if and only if it is an iterated fibre bundle of Grassmannians. We extend this theorem to arbitrary finite type, showing that a Schubert variety in a generalized flag variety is rationally smooth if and only if it is an iterated fibre bundle of rationally smooth Grassmannian Schubert varieties. The proof depends on deep combinatorial results of Billey-Postnikov on Weyl groups. We determine all smooth and rationally smooth Grassmannian Schubert varieties, and give a new proof of Peterson's theorem that all simply-laced rationally smooth Schubert varieties are smooth. Taken together, our results give a fairly complete geometric description of smooth and rationally smooth Schubert varieties using primarily combinatorial methods.

We apply crystal theory to affine Schubert calculus, Gromov-Witten invariants for the complete flag manifold, and the positroid stratification of the positive Grassmannian. We introduce operators on decompositions of elements in the type-$A$ affine Weyl group and produce a crystal reflecting the internal structure of the generalized Young modules whose Frobenius image is represented by stable Schubert polynomials. We apply the crystal framework to products of a Schur function with a $k$-Schur function, consequently proving that a subclass of 3-point Gromov-Witten invariants of complete flag varieties for $\mathbb C^n$ enumerate the highest weight elements under these operators. Included in this class are the Schubert structure constants in the (quantum) product of a Schubert polynomial with a Schur function $s_λ$ for all $|λ^\vee|< n$. Another by-product gives a highest weight formulation for various fusion coefficients of the Verlinde algebra and for the Schubert decomposition of certain positroid classes.

Locally triangular graphs are known to be halved graphs of bipartite rectagraphs, which are connected triangle-free graphs in which every $2$-arc lies in a unique quadrangle. A graph $Γ$ is locally rank 3 if there exists $G\leq \mathrm{Aut}(Γ)$ such that for each vertex $u$, the permutation group induced by the vertex stabiliser $G_u$ on the neighbourhood $Γ(u)$ is transitive of rank 3. One natural place to seek locally rank 3 graphs is among the locally triangular graphs, where every induced neighbourhood graph is isomorphic to a triangular graph $T_n$. This is because the graph $T_n$, which has vertex set the $2$-subsets of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$ and edge set the pairs of $2$-subsets intersecting at one point, admits a rank 3 group of automorphisms. In this paper, we classify the locally $4$-homogeneous rectagraphs under some additional structural assumptions. We then use this result to classify the connected locally triangular graphs that are also locally rank 3.

An irreducible character $χ$ of an association scheme is called nonlinear if the multiplicity of $χ$ is greater than $1$. The main result of this paper gives a characterization of commutative association schemes with at most two nonlinear irreducible characters. This yields a characterization of finite groups with at most two nonlinear irreducible characters. A class of noncommutative association schemes with at most two nonlinear irreducible character is also given.

Let $G$ be a complex semisimple simply connected linear algebraic group. Let $λ$ be a dominant weight for $G$ and $\mathcal{I} = (i_1, i_2, \ldots, i_n)$ a word decomposition for an element $w = s_{i_1} s_{i_2} \cdots s_{i_n}$ of the Weyl group of $G$, where the $s_i$ are the simple reflections. In the 1990s, Grossberg and Karshon introduced a virtual lattice polytope associated to $λ$ and $\mathcal{I}$, which they called a twisted cube, whose lattice points encode (counted with sign according to a density function) characters of representations of $G$. In recent work, the first author and Jihyeon Yang prove that the Grossberg-Karshon twisted cube is untwisted (so the support of the density function is a closed convex polytope) precisely when a certain torus-invariant divisor on a toric variety, constructed from the data of $λ$ and $\mathcal{I}$, is basepoint-free. This corresponds to the situation in which the Grossberg-Karshon character formula is a true combinatorial formula in the sense that there are no terms appearing with a minus sign. In this note, we translate this toric-geometric condition to the combinatorics of $\mathcal{I}$ and $λ$. More precisely, we introduce the notion of hesitant $λ$-walks and then prove that the associated Grossberg-Karshon twisted cube is untwisted precisely when $\mathcal{I}$ is hesitant-$λ$-walk-avoiding.

Let $G$ be a finite group, let $π(G)$ be the set of prime divisors of $|G|$ and let $Γ(G)$ be the prime graph of $G$. This graph has vertex set $π(G)$, and two vertices $r$ and $s$ are adjacent if and only if $G$ contains an element of order $rs$. Many properties of these graphs have been studied in recent years, with a particular focus on the prime graphs of finite simple groups. In this note, we determine the pairs $(G,H)$, where $G$ is simple and $H$ is a proper subgroup of $G$ such that $Γ(G) = Γ(H)$.

Ramanujan complexes are high dimensional simplical complexes generalizing Ramanujan graphs. A result of Oh on quantitative property (T) for Lie groups over local fields is used to deduce a Mixing Lemma for such complexes. As an application we prove that non-partite Ramanujan complexes have 'high girth' and high chromatic number, generalizing a well known result about Ramanujan graphs.

A multiparametric family of 2D Toda $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type is shown to provide generating functions for composite, signed Hurwitz numbers that enumerate certain classes of branched coverings of the Riemann sphere and paths in the Cayley graph of $S_n$. The coefficients $F^{c_1, ..., c_l}_{d_1, ..., d_m}(μ, ν)$ in their series expansion over products $P_μP'_ν$ of power sum symmetric functions in the two sets of Toda flow parameters and powers of the $l+m$ auxiliary parameters are shown to enumerate $|μ|=|ν|=n$ fold branched covers of the Riemann sphere with specified ramification profiles $ μ$ and $ν$ at a pair of points, and two sets of additional branch paints, satisfying certain additional conditions on their ramification profile lengths. The first group consists of $l$ branch points, with ramification profile lengths fixed to be the numbers $(n-c_1, ..., n- c_l)$; the second consists of $m$ further groups of "coloured" branch points, of variable number, for which the sums of the complements of the ramification profile lengths within the groups are fixed to equal the numbers $(d_1, ..., d_m)$. The latter are counted with sign determined by the parity of the total number of such branch points. The coefficients $F^{c_1, ..., c_l}_{d_1, ..., d_m}(μ, ν)$ are also shown to enumerate paths in the Cayley graph of the symmetric group $S_n$ generated by transpositions, starting, as in the usual double Hurwitz case, at an element in the conjugacy class of cycle type $μ$ and ending in the class of type $ν$, but with the first $l$ consecutive subsequences of $(c_1, ..., c_l)$ transpositions strictly monotonically increasing, and the subsequent subsequences of $(d_1, ..., d_m)$ transpositions weakly increasing.
New Descriptions of Demazure Tableaux and Right Keys, with Applications to Convexity
The right key of a semistandard Young tableau is a tool used to find Demazure characters for $sl_n(\mathbb{C})$. This thesis gives methods to obtain the right and left keys by inspection of the semistandard Young tableau. Given a partition $λ$ and a Weyl group element $w$, there is a semistandard Young tableau $Y_λ(w)$ of shape $λ$ that corresponds to $w$. The Demazure character for $λ$ and $w$ is known to be the sum of the weights of all tableaux whose right key is dominated by $Y_λ(w)$. The set of all such tableaux is denoted $\mathcal{D}_λ(w)$. Exploiting the method mentioned above for obtaining right keys, this thesis describes the entry at each location in any $T \in \mathcal{D}_λ(w)$. Lastly, we will consider $\mathcal{D}_λ(w)$ as an integral subset of Euclidean space. The final results present a condition that is both necessary and sufficient for this subset to be convex.
SB-Labelings, Distributivity, and Bruhat Order on Sortable Elements

In this article, we investigate the set of $γ$-sortable elements, associated with a Coxeter group $W$ and a Coxeter element $γ\in W$, under Bruhat order, and we denote this poset by $\mathcal{B}_γ$. We show that this poset belongs to the class of SB-lattices recently introduced by Hersh and Mészáros, by proving a more general statement, namely that all join-distributive lattices are SB-lattices. The observation that $\mathcal{B}_γ$ is join-distributive is due to Armstrong. Subsequently, we investigate for which finite Coxeter groups $W$ and which Coxeter elements $γ\in W$ the lattice $\mathcal{B}_γ$ is in fact distributive. It turns out that this is the case for the "coincidental" Coxeter groups, namely the groups $A_{n},B_{n},H_{3}$ and $I_{2}(k)$. We conclude this article with a conjectural characteriziation of the Coxeter elements $γ$ of said groups for which $\mathcal{B}_γ$ is distributive in terms of forbidden orientations of the Coxeter diagram.

Spaces of Hermitian operators with simple spectra and their finite-order cohomology
The topology of spaces of Hermitian operators in $C^n$ with non-simple spectra was studied by V.Arnold in a relation with the theory of adiabatic connections and the quantum Hall effect. The natural filtration of these spaces by the sets of operators with fixed numbers of eigenvalues defines the spectral sequence, providing interesting combinatorial and homological information on this stratification.
We construct a different spectral sequence, also counting the homology groups of these spaces and based on the universal techniques of {\em topological order complexes} and resolutions of algebraic varieties, generalizing the combinatorial inclusion-exclusion formula and similar to the construction of finite degree knot invariants.
This spectral sequence degenerates at the term $E_1$, is (conjecturally) multiplicative, and as $n$ grows then it converges to a stable spectral sequence counting the cohomology of the space of infinite Hermitian operators without multiple eigenvalues, all whose terms $E^{p,q}_r$ are finitely generated. It allows us to define the finite degree cohomology classes of this space, and to apply the well-known facts and methods of the topological theory of flag manifolds to the problems of geometrical combinatorics, especially concerning the continuous partially ordered sets of subspaces and flags.
