Box polynomials and the excedance matrix
We consider properties of the box polynomials, a one variable polynomial defined over all integer partitions $λ$ whose Young diagrams fit in an $m$ by $n$ box. We show that these polynomials can be expressed by the finite difference operator applied to the power $x^{m+n}$. Evaluating box polynomials yields a variety of identities involving set partition enumeration. We extend the latter identities using restricted growth words and a new operator called the fast Fourier operator, and consider connections between set partition enumeration and the chromatic polynomial on graphs. We also give connections between the box polynomials and the excedance matrix, which encodes combinatorial data from a noncommutative quotient algebra motivated by the recurrence for the excedance set statistic on permutations.
Noncommutative Catalan numbers

The goal of this paper is to introduce and study noncommutative Catalan numbers $C_n$ which belong to the free Laurent polynomial algebra in $n$ generators. Our noncommutative numbers admit interesting (commutative and noncommutative) specializations, one of them related to Garsia-Haiman $(q,t)$-versions, another -- to solving noncommutative quadratic equations. We also establish total positivity of the corresponding (noncommutative) Hankel matrices $H_m$ and introduce accompanying noncommutative binomial coefficients.

Since the early work of Richard Stanley, it has been observed that several permutation statistics have a remarkable property with respect to shuffles of permutations. We formalize this notion of a shuffle-compatible permutation statistic and introduce the shuffle algebra of a shuffle-compatible permutation statistic, which encodes the distribution of the statistic over shuffles of permutations. This paper develops a theory of shuffle-compatibility for descent statistics (statistics that depend only on the descent set and length) which has close connections to the theory of $P$-partitions, quasisymmetric functions, and noncommutative symmetric functions. We use our framework to prove that many descent statistics are shuffle-compatible and to give explicit descriptions of their shuffle algebras, thus unifying past results of Stanley, Gessel, Stembridge, Aguiar-Bergeron-Nyman, and Petersen.

We axiomatize and study the matrices of type $H\in M_N(A)$, having unitary entries, $H_{ij}\in U(A)$, and whose rows and columns are subject to orthogonality type conditions. Here $A$ can be any $C^*$-algebra, for instance $A=\mathbb C$, where we obtain the usual complex Hadamard matrices, or $A=C(X)$, where we obtain the continuous families of complex Hadamard matrices. Our formalism allows the construction of a quantum permutation group $G\subset S_N^+$, whose structure and computation is discussed here.

We define a new family of noncommutative Bell polynomials in the algebra of free quasi-symmetric functions and relate it to the dual immaculate basis of quasi-symmetric functions. We obtain noncommutative versions of Grinberg's results [Canad. J. Math. 69 (2017), 21--53], and interpret them in terms of the tridendriform structure of WQSym. We then present a variant of Rey's self-dual Hopf algebra of set partitions [FPSAC'07, Tianjin] adapted to our noncommutative Bell polynomials and give a complete description of the Bell equivalence classes as linear extensions of explicit posets.
On Drinfel'd associators
In 1986, in order to study the linear representations of the braid group $B\_n$coming from the monodromy of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov differential equations,Drinfel'd introduced a class of formal power series $Φ$on noncommutative variables. These formal series can be considered as a class of associators. We here give an interpretation of them as well as some new tools over Noncommutative Evolution Equations. Asymptotic phenomena are also discussed.

A new class of positive definite functions related to colour-length function on arbitrary Coxeter group is introduced. Extensions of positive definite functions, called the Riesz-Coxeter product, from the Riesz product on the Rademacher (Abelian Coxeter) group to arbitrary Coxeter group is obtained. Applications to harmonic analysis, operator spaces and noncommutative probability is presented. Characterization of radial and colour-radial functions on dihedral groups and infinite permutation group are shown.
Reversible DNA codes over F_{16}+uF_{16}+vF_{16}+uvF_{16}
In this paper we study the structure of specific linear codes called DNA codes. The first attempts on studying such codes have been proposed over four element rings which are naturally matched with DNA four letters. Later, double (pair) DNA strings or in general $k$-DNA strings called $k$-mers have been matched with some special rings and codes over such rings with specific properties are studied. However, these matchings in general are not straightforward and because of the fact that the reverse of the codewords ($k$-mers) need to exist in the code, the matching problem is difficult and it is referred to as the reversibility problem. Here, 8-mers (DNA 8-bases) are matched with the ring elements of $R_{16}=F_{16}+uF_{16}+vF_{16}+uvF_{16}.$ Furthermore, cyclic codes over the ring $R_{16}$ where the multiplication is taken to be noncommutative with respect to the automorphism $θ$ are studied. The preference on the skewness is shown to be very useful and practical especially since this serves as a direct solution to the reversibility problem.
Renormalization: a quasi-shuffle approach

In recent years, the usual BPHZ algorithm for renormalization in perturbative quantum field theory has been interpreted, after dimensional regularization, as a Birkhoff decomposition of characters on the Hopf algebra of Feynman graphs, with values in a Rota-Baxter algebra of amplitudes. We associate in this paper to any such algebra a universal semi-group (different in nature from the Connes-Marcolli "cosmical Galois group"). Its action on the physical amplitudes associated to Feynman graphs produces the expected operations: Bogoliubov's preparation map, extraction of divergences, renormalization. In this process a key role is played by commutative and noncommutative quasi-shuffle bialgebras whose universal properties are instrumental in encoding the renormalization process.
Unitarizability of weight modules over noncommutative Kleinian fiber products
For any $(m,n)$-periodic higher spin six-vertex configuration $\mathscr{L}$, we construct a one-parameter family $Δ_ξ$ of pseudo-unitarizable representations of the corresponding noncommutative fiber product $\mathcal{A}(\mathscr{L})$ by difference operators acting on the space of sections of a complex line bundle $L_ξ$ over the face lattice $F$. The indefinite inner product is given explicitly in terms of a combinatorial sign function defined on $F$. We prove that each simple integral weight $\mathcal{A}(\mathscr{L})$-module (previously classified by the author, see arXiv:1612.08125) occurs as a submodule in one of these representation spaces. Lastly we give a combinatorial description of the signature of the unique (up to nonzero real multiples) indefinite inner product on any simple integral weight module, in terms of certain eight-vertex configurations canonically attached to $\mathscr{L}$. In particular we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for such a module to be unitarizable.

The Kontsevich deformation quantization combines Poisson dynamics, noncommutative geometry, number theory, and calculus of oriented graphs. To manage the algebra and differential calculus of series of weighted graphs, we present software modules: these allow generating the Kontsevich graphs, expanding the noncommutative $\star$-product by using a priori undetermined coefficients, and deriving linear relations between the weights of graphs. Throughout this text we illustrate the assembly of the Kontsevich $\star$-product up to order 4 in the deformation parameter $\hbar$. Already at this stage, the $\star$-product involves hundreds of graphs; expressing all their coefficients via 149 weights of basic graphs (of which 67 weights are now known exactly), we express the remaining 82 weights in terms of only 10 parameters (more specifically, in terms of only 6 parameters modulo gauge-equivalence). Finally, we outline a scheme for computer-assisted proof of the associativity, modulo $\bar{o}(\hbar^4)$, for the newly built $\star$-product expansion.
A combinatorial divisibility question from noncommutative algebra
We present a general conjecture on the divisibility of a certain expression in terms of Kostka numbers and their close variants. This conjecture is closely related to a variant of the period-index problem of noncommutative algebra, with partial implications in both directions. We present a description of the connection between these two problems via Schubert calculus as motivation and evidence for the conjecture before turning to a proof of the conjecture in a family of cases.

Drinfeld orbifold algebras are a type of deformation of skew group algebras generalizing graded Hecke algebras of interest in representation theory, algebraic combinatorics, and noncommutative geometry. In this article, we classify all Drinfeld orbifold algebras for symmetric groups acting by the natural permutation representation. This provides, for nonabelian groups, infinite families of examples of Drinfeld orbifold algebras that are not graded Hecke algebras. We include explicit descriptions of the maps recording commutator relations and show there is a one-parameter family of such maps supported only on the identity and a three-parameter family of maps supported only on 3-cycles and 5-cycles. Each commutator map must satisfy properties arising from a Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt condition on the algebra, and our analysis of the properties illustrates reduction techniques using orbits of group element factorizations and intersections of fixed point spaces.

We prove several identities expressing polynomials counting permutations by various descent statistics in terms of Eulerian polynomials, extending results of Stembridge, Petersen, and Brändén. Additionally, we find $q$-exponential generating functions for $q$-analogues of these descent statistic polynomials that also keep track of the inversion number or inverse major index. We also present identities relating several of these descent statistic polynomials to refinements of type B Eulerian polynomials and flag descent polynomials by the number of negative letters of a signed permutation. Our methods include permutation enumeration techniques involving noncommutative symmetric functions, Brändén's modified Foata-Strehl action, and a group action of Petersen on signed permutations. Notably, the modified Foata-Strehl action yields an analogous relation between Narayana polynomials and the joint distribution of the peak number and descent number over 231-avoiding permutations, which we also interpret in terms of binary trees and Dyck paths.

We establish an isomorphism between the center of the Heisenberg category defined by Khovanov and the algebra $Λ^*$ of shifted symmetric functions defined by Okounkov-Olshanski. We give a graphical description of the shifted power and Schur bases of $Λ^*$ as elements of the center, and describe the curl generators of the center in the language of shifted symmetric functions. This latter description makes use of the transition and co-transition measures of Kerov and the noncommutative probability spaces of Biane.

The number of alternating runs is a natural permutation statistic. We show it can be used to define some commutative subalgebras of the symmetric group algebra, and more precisely of the descent algebra. The Eulerian peak algebras naturally appear as subalgebras of our run algebras. We also calculate the orthogonal idempotents for run algebras in terms of noncommutative symmetric functions.

For any coloured operad R, we prove a Faà di Bruno formula for the `connected Green function' in the incidence bialgebra of R. This generalises on one hand the classical Faà di Bruno formula (dual to composition of power series), corresponding to the case where R is the terminal reduced operad, and on the other hand the Faa di Bruno formula for P-trees of Gálvez--Kock--Tonks (P a finitary polynomial endofunctor), which corresponds to the case where R is the free operad on P. Following Gálvez--Kock--Tonks, we work at the objective level of groupoid slices, hence all proofs are `bijective': the formula is established as the homotopy cardinality of an explicit equivalence of groupoids. In fact we establish the formula more generally in a relative situation, for algebras for one polynomial monad internal to another. This covers in particular nonsymmetric operads (for which the terminal reduced case yields the noncommutative Faà di Bruno formula of Brouder--Frabetti--Krattenthaler).

We describe a combinatorial formula for the coefficients when the dual immaculate quasisymmetric functions are decomposed into Young quasisymmetric Schur functions. We prove this using an analogue of Schensted insertion. Using this result, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a dual immaculate quasisymmetric function to be symmetric. Moreover, we show that the product of a Schur function and a dual immaculate quasisymmetric function expands positively in the Young quasisymmetric Schur basis. We also discuss the decomposition of the Young noncommutative Schur functions into the immaculate functions. Finally, we provide a Remmel-Whitney-style rule to generate the coefficients of the decomposition of the dual immaculates into the Young quasisymmetric Schurs algorithmically and an analogous rule for the decomposition of the dual bases.

The functional equation defining the free cumulants in free probability is lifted successively to the noncommutative Faà di Bruno algebra, and then to the group of a free operad over Schröder trees. This leads to new combinatorial expressions, which remain valid for operator-valued free probability. Specializations of these expressions give back Speicher's formula in terms of noncrossing partitions, and its interpretation in terms of characters due to Ebrahimi-Fard and Patras.
