Explicit Betti Numbers for Skeletons of Chordal Clique Complexes and Their Alexander Duals
We study the homological properties of $Δ_{\mathbf{r}}(n_1, \dots, n_e)$, a simplicial complex formed by sequentially gluing complete graphs along $(r_i-1)$-simplices. This construction generates precisely the chordal clique complexes, whose Stanley-Reisner ideals admit 2-linear resolutions. By computing the $f$-vector and evaluating the Hilbert series, we establish explicit graded Betti numbers for all $k$-skeletons. We show that the regularity of these skeletons is $k+1$ and the projective dimension stabilizes at $N_{\mathbf{r}} - r_{\min} - 1$ for $k \ge r_{\min}$, providing a complete classification of when the complex is Cohen-Macaulay, sequentially Cohen-Macaulay, or initially Cohen-Macaulay. We also obtain explicit formulas for the ring multiplicity and reduced Euler characteristic. Applying Alexander duality, we derive the $f$-vector, rational $h$-polynomial, and exact graded Betti numbers of the dual and its skeletons. Furthermore, analyzing these dual skeletons yields a family of complexes that resolve recent open bounds on regularity. Finally, equating the topological and rational evaluations of the Hilbert series produces a new family of combinatorial binomial identities.
An effective Mayer-Vietoris Theorem for discrete Morse homology
The Mayer-Vietoris theorem is known for its wide applications, especially in determining homology. In fact, this theorem provides us with a long exact sequence, where the underlying homology groups fit in. However, this theorem does not provide an explicit way to compute homology. In this paper we prove an ``effective" version of the Mayer-Vietoris theorem using discrete Morse theory. Suppose, we have a Mayer-Vietoris type setup, i.e., let $X$ be a simplicial complex and $A$ and $B$ be two subcomplexes of $X$, such that $A \cup B=X$. Moreover, let $\mathcal{W}_A$, $\mathcal{W}_{B}$ and $\mathcal{W}_{A \cap B}$ be gradient vector fields on $A$, $B$ and $A \cap B$ respectively (which need not be ``coherent", i.e., they do not need to coincide on their intersection). Then, the main theorem of our paper provides an explicit way to compute the homology groups of $X$, using the combinatorial information regarding the trajectories of the aforementioned gradient vector fields, we do not even need to know the individual homology groups $H_{*}(A)$, $H_{*}(B)$ and $H_{*}(A \cap B)$. In principle, the homology of $X$ can always be computed explicitly using our theorem irrespective of the choice of the gradient vector fields. Further, if we choose the subcomplexes $A$ and $B$ wisely so that each of $A$, $B$ and $A \cap B$ admits an efficient gradient vector field, then the computation of the homology groups is considerably reduced.

Vertex Dismissibility and Scalability of Simplicial Complexes
We introduce vertex dismissible and scalable simplicial complexes, generalizing the classical notions of vertex decomposability and shellability. We prove that a complex satisfies these properties if and only if its initial dimension skeleton is vertex decomposable or shellable, respectively. Algebraically, we define vertex divisible ideals and ideals with degree quotients, proving they are the exact Alexander duals of these complexes. This establishes a corresponding topological and homological hierarchy that interpolates between classical structural properties and the initially Cohen-Macaulay condition. Furthermore, we demonstrate that for complexes of initial dimension one and the independence complexes of co-chordal and cycle graphs, vertex dismissibility, scalability, and initial Cohen-Macaulayness are equivalent to weak connectedness. Finally, we provide a complete skeletal characterization of these properties, a generalized perspective that recovers numerous classical theorems as immediate consequences.

The five-sequence of adjoints for combinatorial simplicial complexes
For a set $A$ let ${\mathbf {SC}_A}$ be the poset of simplicial complexes whose vertices are in $A$. For a function $f : A \rightarrow B$ there are functors $ f^{! !}, f^{**}, f^{ii}: {\mathbf {SC}_A} \rightarrow {\mathbf {SC}_B}, \quad f^{!*}, f^{i*} : {\mathbf {SC}_B} \rightarrow {\mathbf {SC}_A}, $ forming a five sequence of adjoints $f^{ !!} \dashv f^{* !} \dashv f^{* *} \dashv f^{*i} \dashv f^{ii}$. We investigate in detail these functors, and use this to give three categorical structures on simplicial complexes on finite sets such that the Stanley-Reisner correspondence to commutative monomial rings gives dualities.
Linear codes arising from geometrical operation
We construct linear codes over the finite field Fq from arbitrary simplicial complexes, establishing a connection between topological properties and fundamental coding parameters. First, we study the behaviour of the weights of codewords from a geometric point of view, interpreting them in terms of the combinatorial structure of the associated simplicial complex. This approach allows us to describe the minimum distance of the codes in terms of certain geometric features of the complex. Subsequently, we analyse how various topological operations on simplicial complexes affect the classical parameters of the codes. This study leads to the formulation of geometric criteria that make it possible to explicitly control and manipulate these parameters. Finally, as an application of the obtained results, we construct several families of optimal linear codes over F2 using these geometric methods. Thanks to the previously established geometric properties, we can precisely determine the parameters of these families.
The maximum diameter of $d$-dimensional simplicial complexes
For every fixed dimension $d$ and sufficiently large $n$, we determine the maximum possible diameter of a strongly connected $d$-dimensional simplicial complex on $n$ vertices. This improves on a sequence of previous results and settles a problem of Santos from 2013. On the way, as a special case, we also characterise the existence of an extra-tight Euler tour in the complete $d$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices.

Intrinsic linking of a simplicial $n$-complex embedded in $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$
We demonstrate the existence of minimal simplicial $n$-complexes which inevitably contain a nonsplittable two-component link formed by an $(n-1)$-sphere and an $n$-sphere in any embedding into $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$. This provides a higher-dimensional generalization of graphs that are not non-separating planar.

Neural codes via homological invariants of polarized neural ideals
For a neural code $\mathcal{C}\subseteq\mathbb{F}_2^n$, polarizing the canonical form generators of the neural ideal $J_{\mathcal{C}}$ yields a squarefree monomial ideal $\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}})\subset k[x_1,\dots,x_n,y_1,\dots,y_n]$, the polarized neural ideal, and an associated simplicial complex $Δ_{\mathcal{C}}$, the polar complex. We study the graded invariants $\operatorname{pd}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))$ and $\operatorname{reg}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))$ via the topology of $Δ_{\mathcal{C}}$, showing that simple geometric features of the Hamming cube $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ (with Hamming distance) organize their extremal behavior. We prove $\operatorname{reg}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))\le 2n-1$, with equality precisely when $\mathcal{C}$ is obtained from $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ by deleting an antipodal pair. Using connectedness properties of induced subcomplexes of $Δ_{\mathcal{C}}$, we obtain $\operatorname{pd}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))\le 2n-3$, and we give an explicit family of codes attaining equality, each consisting of antipodal pairs. At the opposite end, we identify the cube geometry behind the smallest values: $\operatorname{reg}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))=1$ forces $\mathcal{C}$ to be a coordinate subcube of $\mathbb{F}_2^n$, while $\operatorname{pd}(\mathcal{P}(J_{\mathcal{C}}))=0$ forces $\mathcal{C}$ to be the complement of one. Finally, we construct families realizing large regions of the $(\operatorname{pd},\operatorname{reg})$-plot for fixed $n$.
Symmetric (co)homology polytopes
Symmetric edge polytopes are a recent and well-studied family of centrally symmetric polytopes arising from graphs. In this paper, we introduce a generalization of this family to arbitrary simplicial complexes. We show how topological properties of a simplicial complex can be translated into geometric properties of such polytopes, and vice versa. We study the integer decomposition property, facets and reflexivity of these polytopes. Using Gröbner basis techniques, we obtain a (not necessarily unimodular) triangulation of these polytopes. Due to the tools we use, most of our results hold in the more general setting of arbitrary centrally symmetric polytopes.

Vertex decomposable complexes of directed forests, conflict graphs and chordality
Let $D$ be a multidigraph. We study the simplicial complex $\mathrm{Dlf}(D)$, whose vertices are the directed edges of $D$ and whose faces correspond to directed linear forests, that is, vertex-disjoint unions of directed paths. We also consider the related directed tree complex $\mathrm{DT}(D)$. Our main approach is to associate with $D$ a simple graph encoding the local incompatibilities among the edges of $D$. Under mild acyclicity assumptions, we show that $\mathrm{Dlf}(D)$ and $\mathrm{DT}(D)$ can be realized as the independence complexes of respective graphs. This correspondence allows us to apply structural results from the theory of independence complexes to obtain graph-theoretic criteria guaranteeing vertex decomposability, shellability, and sequential Cohen-Macaulayness of these complexes. In particular, we describe explicit forbidden induced directed subgraphs that obstruct vertex decomposability, and we identify classes of multidigraphs-including certain acyclic multidigraphs and multidigraphs whose underlying graphs are forests or cycles-for which $\mathrm{Dlf}(D)$ and $\mathrm{DT}(D)$ are vertex decomposable. We also provide examples showing that these properties do not hold in general.

Bases of Permutation Groups and Boolean Representable Simplicial Complexes
A base of a permutation group (X,G) is a subset B of X such that its pointwise stabilizer is the trivial group. A list (x1,x2, ... ,xk) of elements of X is irredundant if each element is not in the pointwise stabilizer of its predecessors. We define a Boolean representable simplicial complex B(X,G) such that a subset Y of X is independent if and only if some enumeration of its elements is irredundant. In addition Y is a base if and only if its closure is X. We give a number of examples and close with a conjecture whose solution leads to a new proof of the Feit-Thompson Theorem.

The Topology of $k$-Robust Clique Complexes in Grid-like Graphs
We introduce $k$-robust clique complexes, a family of simplicial complexes that generalizes the traditional clique complex. Here, a subset of vertices forms a simplex provided it does not contain an independent set of size $k$. We investigate these complexes for square sequence graphs, a class of bipartite graphs introduced here that are constructed by iteratively attaching $C_4$ cycles. This class includes rectangular grid graphs $G_{m,n}$. We show that for $k=2$ and $k=3$, the homotopy type is a wedge sum of $(2k-3)$-dimensional spheres, a result we extend to arbitrary $k$ under specific structural constraints on the attachment sequence. Our approach utilizes König's theorem to decompose the complex into manageable components, whose homotopy types are easy to understand. This then enables an inductive proof based on the decomposition and standard tools of algebraic topology. Finally, we utilize Alexander duality to connect our results to the study of total-$k$-cut complexes, generalizing recent results concerning the homotopy types of total-$k$-cut complexes for grid graphs.

Shellability in Clique-Free Complexes of Graphs
We study combinatorial and algebraic properties of $t$-clique-free complexes, a family of simplicial complexes associated with finite simple graphs that generalize the classical independence complex. For a graph $G$ and an integer $t \ge 2$, the $t$-clique-free complex $\mathsf{CF}_t(G)$ is the simplicial complex on the vertex set of $G$ whose faces are the subsets inducing no cliques of size $t$. Our main results provide sufficient conditions for shellability and related decomposability properties of $t$-clique-free complexes. In particular, we show that if $G$ is a $t$-diamond-free chordal graph (in particular, a block graph), then $\mathsf{CF}_t(G)$ is $(t-2)$-decomposable and hence shellable. We also investigate how graph modifications via clique attachments influence shellability. Generalizing earlier constructions involving whiskers and clique extensions, we introduce the following operation: given a graph $H$, a subset $S \subseteq V(H)$, and an integer $t \ge 2$, we form a graph $\operatorname{Cl}(H,S,t)$ by attaching to each vertex in $S$ a clique of size at least $t$. We prove that $\mathsf{CF}_t(H\setminus S)$ is shellable if and only if $\mathsf{CF}_t(\operatorname{Cl}(H,S,t))$ is shellable. This yields a flexible method for constructing shellable complexes, particularly when $S$ is a cycle cover. In addition, we extend the notion of clique whiskering and show that for any graph admitting a clique vertex-partition, the resulting $t$-clique whiskering produces a pure and shellable, and hence Cohen-Macaulay, $t$-clique-free complex. Finally, we establish a Fröberg-type result linking chordality and linear resolutions. We show that for any chordal graph $G$, the edge ideal of the complement $t$-clique clutter $\overline{\mathcal{CH}_t(G)}$ admits a $t$-linear resolution over any field.

Homotopy types of finite étale spaces and generalized inflations
Inflation of a simplicial complex $K$ is a construction well known in combinatorial topology. It replaces each vertex $i$ of $K$ with a finite number $n_i$ of its copies, and each simplex $\{i_0,\ldots,i_k\}$ with $n_{i_0}n_{i_1}\cdots n_{i_k}$ many copies so that the collection of vertex-copies is spanned by a simplex in the inflation if and only if their originals were spanned by a simplex in the original complex. The celebrated poset fiber theorem of Björner, Wachs, and Welker describes the homotopy type of such inflation in terms of homotopy types of $K$ and its links. In the current paper, we introduce more general inflations over simplicial posets: we replace each simplex with an arbitrary finite set of copies. The way how these sets patch together is specified by a commutative diagram, or, equivalently, a sheaf on the corresponding finite topology. The generalized inflation can be understood as étale space of such sheaf. We prove that, whenever this inflation sheaf is flabby, the poset fiber theorem still applies. We prove all results similar to those known for vertex inflations. We also cover the previous result of the first author about homotopy types of clique complexes of multigraphs.

Graphs defined on algebras
There has been a great deal of attention recently to graphs whose vertex set is a group, defined using the group structure. (The commuting graph, where two elements are joined if they commute, is the oldest and most famous example.) The purpose of this paper is to investigate extending the definitions of such graphs to general algebras (in the sense of universal algebra). It seems unlikely that such a definition can be made for the commuting graph, or for various others such as the nilpotency and Engel graphs. However, for graphs whose definition depends on the notion of subgroup or subalgebra generated by a subset, the existing definitions work without change. These graphs include several well-studied examples: the power graph, enhanced power graph, generating graph, independence graph, and rank graph. In these cases, some results about groups extend to arbitrary algebras unchanged, but others require specific properties of groups, and pose a challenge to researchers. In the next two sections, I will describe some extensions to directed graphs (the directed power graph and the endomorphism digraph) and to simplicial complexes (the independence and strong independence complexes). The final section gives explicit descriptions of all of these objects for independence algebras.

Zeros of Random Sections on Line Bundles
Sections of line bundles on 2 dimensional surfaces in 3 dimensional space can have many distinct shapes. For practical purposes we prefer smooth sections that are visibly easy to follow. This is why smoothing operators have been developed on discrete surfaces as in the inspirational paper "Globally Optimal Direction Fields" [Knoeppel et al. 2013] that can be applied to any section to return another smoother section. We are interested to make predictions on one aspect of the resulting smoothed section's structure, namely position of its signed zeros. The zeros are the most noticeable feature of a section where the section values circles around a specific point. The purpose of this thesis is to predict the distribution of the smoothed section's signed zeros with multiplicity that are given by applying the smoothing operator to randomly generated sections of hermitian line bundles on closed simplicial complexes. This will be done in a discrete setting consequently meaning that we will compute the expected sum of indices on each face. Why and how we do this is this thesis' purpose to explain.

Remarks about Connection and Dirac matrices
The connection Laplacian L and the Dirac matrix D are both n x n matrices defined from a given finite simplicial complex G with n sets. In both cases, there is interlacing of the eigenvalues for subcomplexes. This gives general upper bounds of the eigenvalues both for L and D in terms of inclusion or intersection degrees. We conjecture that L always dominates both D and the inverse of L in a weak Loewner sense. In a second part we look at dynamical systems (G,T), where T is a simplicial map on G. Both L and D generalize to dynamical versions of L and D. The modified L is still unimodular with an explicit Green function inverse and modified Dirac part still comes from an exterior derivative d. We also review the Lefschetz fixed point theorem for a simplicial map T on a simplicial complex G which implies the Brouwer fixed point theorem: any simplicial map on a contractible finite abstract simplicial complex G has a fixed simplex.

Subdividing simplicial virtual resolutions with homology
While sporadic examples of virtual resolutions with homology have been constructed, their occurrence is not well understood or controlled. Our results build a new set of tools for studying virtual resolutions of monomial ideals as arising from simplicial complexes, including characterizing them by the acyclicity of certain induced subcomplexes. Using this characterization, we give a description of minimal simplicial complexes supporting virtual resolutions as well as a technique for removing homology from simplicial virtual resolutions.

Spectral radius of $2$-dimensional simplicial complexes with given Betti number
In this paper we establish an asymptotic formula for the signless Laplacian spectral radius of a $2$-dimensional simplicial complex with given $2$-th Betti number. Furthermore, we characterize the $2$-dimensional simplicial complex that achieves the maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius among all-dimensional simplicial complex with the $2$-th Betti number equal to $1$ or $2$.

A generalization of $q$-deformation of graphic arrangements to simplicial complexes
The purpose of this thesis is to introduce two new kinds of hyperplane arrangements, inspired by the graphic arrangements and $q$-deformations of graphic arrangements. In this thesis, the author extends the definition of $q$-deformation to simplicial complexes, with the conjecture by Nian, Tsujie, Uchiumi and Yoshinaga. The author also investigates a special case called graphic monomial arrangement, including the characteristic polynomials and freeness with a further extension to fields with primitive roots.
