A Fixed-Point Worpitzky Identity and a Positive Binomial Transform for Type $B$ Involutions
Let $\mathcal I_n^B$ be the involutions of the hyperoctahedral group $\mathfrak B_n$, and let $\des^B$ denote the descent number with respect to the natural Coxeter order. We derive the fixed-point-refined Worpitzky identity \[ \sum_{n\ge0}\frac{\mathcal F_n(p,t)\,z^n}{(1-t)^{n+1}} =\sum_{m\ge0} \frac{(1+pz)^m\,t^m}{(1-pz)^{m+1}(1-z^2)^{m(m+1)}}, \quad \mathcal F_n(p,t)=\sum_{π\in\mathcal I_n^B}p^{\fixB(π)}t^{\des^B(π)}. \] Extracting the stratum with $j$ two-cycles and $f$ fixed positions yields a one-parameter deformation of the fixed-point-free Worpitzky series of Wan, Gao, Li and Yang. After the change of variables $x=t/(1+t)^2$, this deformation becomes a positive binomial transform. More precisely, if \[ P_j(x)=\sum_sD_{2j,s}x^s \] is the fixed-point-free $γ$-polynomial, then the transform coefficients $A_{j,r}(x)$ are determined by \[ \sum_{r\ge0}A_{j,r}(x)W^r =\sum_{s=0}^{j}D_{2j,s}x^s (1+4xW)^{2j-2s}(1+2W+4xW^2)^s, \] and the $γ$-polynomial of the $(j,f)$-stratum is \[ Φ_{j,f}(x)=\sum_{r=0}^{f}\binom fr A_{j,r}(x). \] This manifestly positive transform is the main structural result of the paper. As consequences, every fixed cycle-type stratum is $γ$-positive and $\mathcal F_n(p,t)$ is coefficientwise $γ$-positive in the fixed-point variable $p$. The cases $f=0$ and $p=1$ recover, respectively, the fixed-point-free theorem of Wan--Gao--Li--Yang and the all-involution theorem of Cao--Liu. We also give explicit formulas for the first binomial layers and for the strata with one and two two-cycles.

Rota used the functional L to recover old properties and obtain some new formulas for the Bell numbers. Tanny used Rota's functional L and the celebrated Worpitzky identity to obtain some expression for the ordered Bell numbers, which can be seen as an evident to the fact that the ordered Bell numbers are gamma-positive. In this paper, we extend some of Rota's and Tanny's results to the framework of the set partitions of Coxeter type B.

Many combinatorial and other number triangles are solutions of recurrences of the Graham-Knuth-Patashnik (GKP) type. Such triangles and their defining recurrences are investigated analytically. They are acted on by a transformation group generated by two involutions: a left-right reflection and an upper binomial transformation, acting row-wise. The group also acts on the bivariate exponential generating function (EGF) of the triangle. By the method of characteristics, the EGF of any GKP triangle has an implicit representation in terms of the Gauss hypergeometric function. There are several parametric cases when this EGF can be obtained in closed form. One is when the triangle elements are the generalized Stirling numbers of Hsu and Shiue. Another is when they are generalized Eulerian numbers of a newly defined kind. These numbers are related to the Hsu-Shiue ones by an upper binomial transformation, and can be viewed as coefficients of connection between polynomial bases, in a manner that generalizes the classical Worpitzky identity. Many identities involving these generalized Eulerian numbers and related generalized Narayana numbers are derived, including closed-form evaluations in combinatorially significant cases.
The Worpitzky identity for the groups of signed and even-signed permutations

The well-known Worpitzky identity provides a connection between two bases of $\mathbb{Q}[x]$: The standard basis $(x+1)^n$ and the binomial basis ${{x+n-i} \choose {n}}$, where the Eulerian numbers for the Coxeter group of type $A$ (the symmetric group) serve as the entries of the transformation matrix. Brenti has generalized this identity to the Coxeter groups of types $B$ and $D$ (signed and even-signed permutations groups, respectively) using generating function techniques.
Motivated by Foata-Schützenberger and Rawlings' proof for the Worpitzky identity in the symmetric group, we provide combinatorial proofs of this identity and for their $q-$analogues in the Coxeter groups of types $B$ and $D$.
Colored Multipermutations and a Combinatorial Generalization of Worpitzky's Identity
Worpitzky's identity expresses $n^p$ in terms of the Eulerian numbers and binomial coefficients: $$n^p = \sum_{i=0}^{p-1} \genfrac<>{0pt}{}{p}{i} \binom{n+i}{p}.$$
Pita-Ruiz recently defined numbers $A_{a,b,r}(p,i)$ implicitly to satisfy a generalized Worpitzky identity $$\binom{an+b}{r}^p = \sum_{i=0}^{rp} A_{a,b,r}(p,i) \binom{n+rp-i}{rp},$$ and asked whether there is a combinatorial interpretation of the numbers $A_{a,b,r}(p,i)$.
We provide such a combinatorial interpretation by defining a notion of descents in colored multipermutations, and then proving that $A_{a,b,r}(p,i)$ is equal to the number of colored multipermutations of $\{1^r, 2^r, \ldots, p^r\}$ with $a$ colors and $i$ weak descents. We use this to give combinatorial proofs of several identities involving $A_{a,b,r}(p,i)$, including the aforementioned generalized Worpitzky identity.
Combinatorics and Representation Theory for Generalized Permutohedra I: Simplicial Plates
In this paper, we announce results from our thesis, which studies for the first time the categorification of the theory of generalized permutohedra. The vector spaces in the categorification are tightly constrained by certain continuity relations which appeared in physics in the mid 20th century. We describe here the action of the symmetric group on the vector spaces in this categorification. Generalized permutohedra are replaced by vector spaces of characteristic functions of polyhedral cones about faces of permutohedra, called plates, due to A. Ocneanu. The symmetric group acts on plates by coordinate permutation.
In combinatorics, the Eulerian numbers count the number of permutations with a given number of ascent and descents. The classical Worpitzky identity expands a power $r^p$ as a sum of Eulerian numbers, with binomial coefficients. In our thesis, for the main result we generalize the classical Worpitzky identity to an isomorphism of symmetric group modules, corresponding geometrically to the tiling of a scaled simplex by unit hypersimplices. In the categorification, the volume of a hypersimplex is replaced by the complex-linear dimension of a vector space associated to it. The main technical aspect of the proof of the character formula for the simplex involves a partition of unity of a commutative algebra of translations on a discrete torus, and a certain modular Diophantine equation.
