We give some illustrative applications of our recent result on decompositions of labelled complexes, including some new results on decompositions of hypergraphs with coloured or directed edges. For example, we give fairly general conditions for decomposing an edge-coloured graph into rainbow triangles, and for decomposing an r-digraph into tight q-cycles.

We revisit the problem of counting the number of copies of a fixed graph in a random graph or multigraph, for various models of random (multi)graphs. For our proofs we introduce the notion of \emph{patchworks} to describe the possible overlappings of copies of subgraphs. Furthermore, the proofs are based on analytic combinatorics to carry out asymptotic computations. The flexibility of our approach allows us to tackle a wide range of problems. We obtain the asymptotic number and the limiting distribution of the number of subgraphs which are isomorphic to a graph from a given set of graphs. The results apply to multigraphs as well as to (multi)graphs with degree constraints. One application is to scale-free multigraphs, where the degree distribution follows a power law, for which we show how to obtain the asymptotic number of copies of a given subgraph and give as an illustration the expected number of small cycles.
Riordan Pseudo-Involutions, Continued Fractions and Somos $4$ Sequences
We define a three parameter family of Bell pseudo-involutions in the Riordan group. The defining sequences have generating functions that are expressible as continued fractions. We indicate that the Hankel transforms of the defining sequences, and of the $A$ sequences of the corresponding Riordan arrays, can be associated with Somos $4$ sequence. We give examples where these sequences can be associated with elliptic curves, and we exhibit instances where elliptic curves can give rise to associated Riordan pseudo-involutions. In the case of a particular one parameter family of elliptic curves, we show how we can associate to each such curve a unique Bell pseudo-involution.

A graph is k-total colourable if there is an assignment of k different colours to the vertices and edges of the graph such that no two adjacent nor incident elements receive the same colour. The total chromatic number of some direct product graphs are determined. In particular, a sufficient condition is given for direct products of bipartite graphs to have total chromatic number equal to its maximum degree plus one. Partial results towards the total chromatic number of the direct product of complete graphs are also established.
Maximum Wiener Indices of Unicyclic Graphs of Given Matching Number
In this article, we determine the maximum Wiener indices of unicyclic graphs with given number of vertices and matching number. We also characterize the extremal graphs. This solves an open problem of Du and Zhou.

Let $S_{1}(m, d, k)$ be the $k$-uniform supertree obtained from a loose path $P:v_{1}, e_{1}, v_{2}, \ldots,v_{d}, e_{d}, v_{d+1}$ with length $d$ by attaching $m-d$ edges at vertex $v_{\lfloor\frac{d}{2}\rfloor+1}.$ Let $\mathbb{S}(m,d,k)$ be the set of $k$-uniform supertrees with $m$ edges and diameter $d$ and $q(G)$ be the signless Laplacian spectral radius of a $k$-uniform hypergraph $G$. In this paper, we mainly determine $S_{1}(m,d,k)$ with the largest signless Laplacian spectral radius among all supertrees in $\mathbb{S}(m,d,k)$ for $3\leq d\leq m-1$. Furthermore, we determine the unique uniform supertree with the maximum signless Laplacian spectral radius among all the uniform supertrees with $n$ vertices and pendent edges (vertices).

Lattice polytopes which possess the integer decomposition property (IDP for short) turn up in many fields of mathematics. It is known that if the Cayley sum of lattice polytopes possesses IDP, then so does their Minkowski sum. In this paper, the Cayley sum of the order polytope of a finite poset and the stable set polytope of a finite simple graph is studied. We show that the Cayley sum of an order polytope and the stable set polytope of a perfect graph possesses a regular unimodular triangulation and IDP, and hence so does their Minkowski sum. Moreover, it turns out that, for an order polytope and the stable set polytope of a graph, the following conditions are equivalent: (i) the Cayley sum is Gorenstein; (ii) the Minkowski sum is Gorenstein; (iii) the graph is perfect.

In this paper we consider the relation between the spectrum and the number of short cycles in large graphs. Suppose $G_1, G_2, G_3, \ldots$ is a sequence of finite and connected graphs that share a common universal cover $T$ and such that the proportion of eigenvalues of $G_n$ that lie within the support of the spectrum of $T$ tends to 1 in the large $n$ limit. This is a weak notion of being Ramanujan. We prove such a sequence of graphs is asymptotically locally tree-like. This is deduced by way of an analogous theorem proved for certain infinite sofic graphs and unimodular networks, which extends results for regular graphs and certain infinite Cayley graphs.
Avoiding long Berge cycles II, exact bounds for all $n$
Let $EG_r(n,k)$ denote the maximum number of edges in an $n$-vertex $r$-uniform hypergraph with no Berge cycles of length $k$ or longer. In the first part of this work, we have found exact values of $EG_r(n,k)$ and described the structure of extremal hypergraphs for the case when $k-2$ divides $n-1$ and $k\geq r+3$. In this paper we determine $EG_r(n,k)$ and describe the extremal hypergraphs for all $n$ when $k\geq r+4$.
Idempotent means on free binary systems do not exist
Free binary systems are shown to not admit idempotent means. This refutes a conjecture of the author. It is also shown that the extension of Hindman's theorem to nonassociative binary systems formulated and conjectured by the author is false.

In this paper, we show that every $(2P_2,K_4)$-free graph is 4-colorable. The bound is attained by the five-wheel and the complement of the seven-cycle. This answers an open question by Wagon \cite{Wa80} in the 1980s. Our result can also be viewed as a result in the study of the Vizing bound for graph classes. A major open problem in the study of computational complexity of graph coloring is whether coloring can be solved in polynomial time for $(4P_1,C_4)$-free graphs. Lozin and Malyshev \cite{LM17} conjecture that the answer is yes. As an application of our main result, we provide the first positive evidence to the conjecture by giving a 2-approximation algorithm for coloring $(4P_1,C_4)$-free graphs.

We improve the lower bound on the asymptotic competitive ratio of any online algorithm for bin packing to above 1.54278. We demonstrate for the first time the advantage of branching and the applicability of full adaptivity in the design of lower bounds for the classic online bin packing problem. We apply a new method for weight based analysis, which is usually applied only in proofs of upper bounds. The values of previous lower bounds were approximately 1.5401 and 1.5403.

We introduce patterns on a triangular grid generated by paperfolding operations. We show that in case these patterns are defined using a periodic sequence of foldings, they can also be generated using substitution rules and compute eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the corresponding matrices. We also prove that densities of all basic triangles are equal in these patterns.
A central limit theorem for star-generators of $S_{\infty}$, which relates to the law of a GUE matrix

It is well-known that, on a purely algebraic level, a simplified algebraic version of the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) can be proved in the framework of a noncommutative probability space, under the hypotheses that the sequence of non-commutative random variables we consider is exchangeable and obeys a certain vanishing condition of some of its joint moments. In this approach (which covers versions for both the classical CLT and the CLT of free probability), the determination of the resulting limit law has to be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
In this paper we discuss an instance of the above theorem which takes place in the framework of the group algebra of the infinite symmetric group $S_{\infty}$: the exchangeable sequence that is considered consists of the star-generators of $S_{\infty}$, and the expectation functional used on the group algebra of $S_{\infty}$ depends in a natural way on a parameter $d$, which is a positive integer. We identify precisely the limit distribution $μ_d$ for this special instance of exchangeable CLT, via a connection that $μ_d$ turns out to have with the average empirical eigenvalue distribution of a random GUE matrix of size $d \times d$. Moreover, we put into evidence a multi-variate version of this result which follows from the observation that, on the level of calculations with pair-partitions, the (non-centred) star-generators are related to a (centred) exchangeable sequence of GUE matrices with independent entries
Counting Integral Points in Polytopes via Numerical Analysis of Contour Integration

In this paper, we address the problem of counting integer points in a rational polytope described by $P(y) = \{ x \in \mathbb{R}^m \colon Ax = y, x \geq 0\}$, where $A$ is an $n \times m$ integer matrix and $y$ is an $n$-dimensional integer vector. We study the Z-transformation approach initiated by Brion-Vergne, Beck, and Lasserre-Zeron from the numerical analysis point of view, and obtain a new algorithm on this problem: If $A$ is nonnegative, then the number of integer points in $P(y)$ can be computed in $O(\mathrm{poly} (n,m, \|y\|_\infty) (\|y\|_\infty + 1)^n)$ time and $O(\mathrm{poly} (n,m, \|y\|_\infty))$ space. This improves, in terms of space complexity, a naive DP algorithm with $O((\|y\|_\infty + 1)^n)$-size DP table. Our result is based on the standard error analysis to the numerical contour integration for the inverse Z-transform, and establish a new type of an inclusion-exclusion formula for integer points in $P(y)$. We apply our result to hypergraph $b$-matching, and obtain a $O(\mathrm{poly}( n,m,\|b\|_\infty) (\|b\|_\infty +1)^{(1-1/k)n})$ time algorithm for counting $b$-matchings in a $k$-partite hypergraph with $n$ vertices and $m$ hyperedges. This result is viewed as a $b$-matching generalization of the classical result by Ryser for $k=2$ and its multipartite extension by Bj{ö}rklund-Husfeldt.

We develop a rigidity theory for bar-joint frameworks in Euclidean $d$-space in which specified classes of edges are allowed to change length in a coordinated fashion that requires differences of lengths to be preserved within each class. Rigidity for these coordinated frameworks is a generic property, and we characterize the rigid graphs in terms of redundant rigidity in the standard $d$-dimensional rigidity matroid. We also interpret our main results in terms of matroid unions.
The Schröder case of the generalized Delta conjecture

We prove the Schröder case, i.e. the case $\langle \cdot,e_{n-d}h_d \rangle$, of the conjecture of Haglund, Remmel and Wilson (Haglund et al. 2018) for $Δ_{h_m}Δ_{e_{n-k-1}}'e_n$ in terms of decorated partially labelled Dyck paths, which we call \emph{generalized Delta conjecture}. This result extends the Schröder case of the Delta conjecture proved in (D'Adderio, Vanden Wyngaerd 2017), which in turn generalized the $q,t$-Schröder of Haglund (Haglund 2004). The proof gives a recursion for these polynomials that extends the ones known for the aforementioned special cases. Also, we give another combinatorial interpretation of the same polynomial in terms of a new bounce statistic. Moreover, we give two more interpretations of the same polynomial in terms of doubly decorated parallelogram polyominoes, extending some of the results in (D'Adderio, Iraci 2017), which in turn extended results in (Aval et al. 2014). Also, we provide combinatorial bijections explaining some of the equivalences among these interpretations.
Stochastic Stability in Schelling's Segregation Model with Markovian Asynchronous Update

We investigate the dependence of steady-state properties of Schelling's segregation model on the agents' activation order. Our basic formalism is the Pollicott-Weiss version of Schelling's segregation model. Our main result modifies this baseline scenario by incorporating contagion in the decision to move: (pairs of) agents are connected by a second, agent influence network. Pair activation is specified by a random walk on this network.
The considered schedulers choose the next pair nonadaptively. We can complement this result by an example of adaptive scheduler (even one that is quite fair) that is able to preclude maximal segregation. Thus scheduler nonadaptiveness seems to be required for the validity of the original result under arbitrary asynchronous scheduling. The analysis (and our result) are part of an adversarial scheduling approach we are advocating to evolutionary games and social simulations.
An improved dimensional threshold for the angle problem
The Falconer distinct distance problem asks for a compact set $E\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ how large its Hausdorff dimension needs to be to ensure that the Lebesgue measure of its distance set is positive. In this paper we consider the analogous question for the set of angles. We show that if the Hausdorff dimension of $E$ is strictly bigger than $\frac{d}{2}$ then the Lebesgue measure of the angles set is positive. In the plane this result was previously established by Harangi et al. In higher dimensions, our exponent improves the $\frac{d+1}{2}$ threshold previously obtain by the authors of this paper and Mihalis Mourgoglou. We do not know what the right dimensional threshold should be in higher dimensions.
