Let $π$ be an irreducible cuspidal representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{kn}\left(\mathbb{F}_q\right)$. Assume that $π= π_θ$, corresponds to a regular character $θ$ of $\mathbb{F}_{q^{kn}}^{*}$. We consider the twisted Jacquet module of $π$ with respect to a non-degenerate character of the unipotent radical corresponding to the partition $(n^k)$ of $kn$. We show that, as a $\mathrm{GL}_{n}\left(\mathbb{F}_q\right)$-representation, this Jacquet module is isomorphic to $π_{θ\upharpoonright_{\mathbb{F}_n^*}} \otimes \mathrm{St}^{k-1}$, where $\mathrm{St}$ is the Steinberg representation of $\mathrm{GL}_{n}\left(\mathbb{F}_q\right)$. This generalizes a theorem of D. Prasad, who considered the case $k=2$. We prove and rely heavily on a formidable identity involving $q$-hypergeometric series and linear algebra.
The symmetric representation of lines in $\text{PG}(\mathbb{F}^3 \otimes \mathbb{F}^3)$
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a finite field, an algebraically closed field, or the field of real numbers. Consider the vector space $V=\mathbb{F}^3 \otimes \mathbb{F}^3$ of $3 \times 3$ matrices over $\mathbb{F}$, and let $G \leq \text{PGL}(V)$ be the setwise stabiliser of the corresponding Segre variety $S_{3,3}(\mathbb{F})$ in the projective space $\text{PG}(V)$. The $G$-orbits of lines in $\text{PG}(V)$ were determined by the first author and Sheekey as part of their classification of tensors in $\mathbb{F}^2 \otimes V$ in the article "Canonical forms of $2 \times 3 \times 3$ tensors over the real field, algebraically closed fields, and finite fields", Linear Algebra Appl. 476 (2015) 133-147. Here we consider the related problem of classifying those line orbits that may be represented by {\em symmetric} matrices, or equivalently, of classifying the line orbits in the $\mathbb{F}$-span of the Veronese variety $\mathcal{V}_3(\mathbb{F}) \subset S_{3,3}(\mathbb{F})$ under the natural action of $K=\text{PGL}(3,\mathbb{F})$. Interestingly, several of the $G$-orbits that have symmetric representatives split under the action of $K$, and in many cases this splitting depends on the characteristic of $\mathbb{F}$. The corresponding orbit sizes and stabiliser subgroups of $K$ are also determined in the case where $\mathbb{F}$ is a finite field, and connections are drawn with old work of Jordan, Dickson and Campbell on the classification of pencils of conics in $\text{PG}(2,\mathbb{F})$, or equivalently, of pairs of ternary quadratic forms over $\mathbb{F}$.
Mathematical aspect of the combinatorial game "Mahjong"
We illustrate how one can use basic combinatorial theory and computer programming technique (Python) to analyze the combinatorial game: Mahjong. The results confirm some folklore concerning the game, and expose some unexpected results. Related results and possible future research in connection to artificial intelligence are mentioned. Readers interested in the subject may further develop the techniques to deepen the study of the game, or study other combinatorial games.
Free arrangements with low exponents
In this article we show that any free hyperplane arrangement with exponents 1's and 2's is a supersolvable arrangement. We conjecture that any free arrangement with exponents 1's, 2's and exactly one 3, is also supersolvable, and we show this conjecture for hyperplane arrangements of ranks 4 and 5, and for inductively free arrangements of any rank.
The domination number and the least Q-eigenvalue II
Denote by $L_{g, l}$ the $lollipop$ $graph$ obtained by attaching a pendant path $\mathbb{P}=v_{g}v_{g+1}\cdots v_{g+l}$ ($l\geq 1$) to a cycle $\mathbb{C}=v_{1}v_{2}\cdots v_{g}v_{1}$ ($g\geq 3$). A $\mathcal {F}_{g, l}$-$graph$ of order $n\geq g+1$ is defined to be the graph obtained by attaching $n-g-l$ pendent vertices to some of the nonpendant vertices of $L_{g, l}$ in which each vertex other than $v_{g+l-1}$ is attached at most one pendant vertex. A $\mathcal {F}^{\circ}_{g, l}$-graph is a $\mathcal {F}_{g, l}$-$graph$ in which $v_{g}$ is attached with pendant vertex. Denote by $q_{min}$ the $least$ $Q$-$eigenvalue$ of a graph. In this paper, we proceed on considering the domination number, the least $Q$-eigenvalue of a graph as well as their relation. Further results obtained are as follows:
$\mathrm{(i)}$ some results about the changing of the domination number under the structural perturbation of a graph are represented;
$\mathrm{(ii)}$ among all nonbipartite unicyclic graphs of order $n$, with both domination number $γ$ and girth $g$ ($g\leq n-1$), the minimum $q_{min}$ attains at a $\mathcal {F}_{g, l}$-graph for some $l$;
$\mathrm{(iii)}$ among the nonbipartite graphs of order $n$ and with given domination number which contain a $\mathcal {F}^{\circ}_{g, l}$-graph as a subgraph, some lower bounds for $q_{min}$ are represented;
$\mathrm{(iv)}$ among the nonbipartite graphs of order $n$ and with given domination number $\frac{n}{2}$, $\frac{n-1}{2}$, the minimum $q_{min}$ is completely determined respectively;
$\mathrm{(v)}$ among the nonbipartite graphs of order $n\geq 4$, and with both domination number $\frac{n+1}{3}<γ\leq \frac{n}{2}$ and odd-girth (the length of the shortest odd cycle) at most $5$, the minimum $q_{min}$ is completely determined.

The edit distance function of a hereditary property $\mathscr{H}$ is the asymptotically largest edit distance between a graph of density $p\in[0,1]$ and $\mathscr{H}$. Denote by $P_n$ and $C_n$ the path graph of order $n$ and the cycle graph of order $n$, respectively. Let $C_{2n}^*$ be the cycle graph $C_{2n}$ with a diagonal, and $\widetilde{C_n}$ be the graph with vertex set $\{v_0, v_1, \ldots, v_{n-1}\}$ and $E(\widetilde{C_n})=E(C_n)\cup \{v_0v_2\}$. Marchant and Thomason determined the edit distance function of $C_6^{*}$. Peck studied the edit distance function of $C_n$, while Berikkyzy et al. studied the edit distance of powers of cycles. In this paper, by using the methods of Peck and Martin, we determine the edit distance function of $C_8^{*}$, $\widetilde{C_n}$ and $P_n$, respectively.

Equidistributions of MAJ and STAT over pattern avoiding permutations
Babson and Steingrímsson introduced generalized permutation patterns and showed that most of the Mahonian statistics in the literature can be expressed by the combination of generalized pattern functions. Particularly, they defined a new Mahonian statistic in terms of generalized pattern functions, which is denoted $stat$. Recently, Amini investigated the equidistributions of these Mahonian statistics over sets of pattern avoiding permutations. Moreover, he posed several conjectures. In this paper, we construct a bijection from $S_n(213)$ to $S_n(231)$, which maps the statistic $(maj,stat)$ to the statistic $(stat,maj)$. This allows us to give solutions to some of Amini's conjectures.

Packing Topological Minors Half-Integrally

The packing problem and the covering problem are two of the most general questions in graph theory. The Erdős-Pósa property characterizes the cases when the optimal solutions of these two problems are bounded by functions of each other. Robertson and Seymour proved that when packing and covering $H$-minors for any fixed graph $H$, the planarity of $H$ is equivalent to the Erdős-Pósa property. Thomas conjectured that the planarity is no longer required if the solution of the packing problem is allowed to be half-integral.
In this paper, we prove that this half-integral version of Erdős-Pósa property holds for packing and covering $H$-topological minors, for any fixed graph $H$, which easily implies Thomas' conjecture. In fact, we prove an even stronger statement in which those topological minors are rooted at any choice of prescribed subsets of vertices.
A number of results on $H$-topological minor free or $H$-minor free graphs have conclusions or requirements tied to properties of $H$. Classes of graphs that can half-integrally pack only a bounded number of $H$-topological minors or $H$-minors are more general topological minor-closed or minor-closed families whose minimal obstructions are more complicated than $H$. Our theorem provides a general machinery to extend those results to those more general classes of graphs without losing their tight connections to $H$.
An Algorithmic Proof of the Piff--Welsh Theorem on Transversal Matroid Representations
A fundamental theorem of matroid theory establishes that a transversal matroid is representable over fields of any characteristic. It was proved in 1970 by Piff and Welsh: their proof is elegant and concise and, moveover, constructive. However it is far from being algorithmic, in terms of suggesting a step-by-step procedure for deriving a collection of vectors over a given base field representing the transversal matroid induced by a given set system. In this note we recast Piff and Welsh's proof in algorithmic form.

Tutte's $3$-flow conjecture states that every $4$-edge-connected graph admits a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. In this paper, we characterize all graphs with independence number at most $4$ that admit a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. The characterization of $3$-flow verifies Tutte's $3$-flow conjecture for graphs with independence number at most $4$ and with order at least $21$. In addition, we prove that every odd-$5$-edge-connected graph with independence number at most $3$ admits a nowhere-zero $3$-flow. To obtain these results, we introduce a new reduction method to handle odd wheels.
On the Orbits of Crossed Cubes
An orbit of $G$ is a subset $S$ of $V(G)$ such that $φ(u)=v$ for any two vertices $u,v\in S$, where $φ$ is an isomorphism of $G$. The orbit number of a graph $G$, denoted by $\text{Orb}(G)$, is the number of orbits of $G$. In [A Note on Path Embedding in Crossed Cubes with Faulty Vertices, Information Processing Letters 121 (2017) pp. 34--38], Chen et al. conjectured that $\text{Orb}(\text{CQ}_n)=2^{\lceil\frac{n}{2}\rceil-2}$ for $n\geqslant 3$, where $\text{CQ}_n$ denotes an $n$-dimensional crossed cube. In this paper, we settle the conjecture.

We say that a finite set of red and blue points in the plane in general position can be $K_{1,3}$-covered if the set can be partitioned into subsets of size $4$, with $3$ points of one color and $1$ point of the other color, in such a way that, if at each subset the fourth point is connected by straight-line segments to the same-colored points, then the resulting set of all segments has no crossings. We consider the following problem: Given a set $R$ of $r$ red points and a set $B$ of $b$ blue points in the plane in general position, how many points of $R\cup B$ can be $K_{1,3}$-covered? and we prove the following results:
(1) If $r=3g+h$ and $b=3h+g$, for some non-negative integers $g$ and $h$, then there are point sets $R\cup B$, like $\{1,3\}$-equitable sets (i.e., $r=3b$ or $b=3r$) and linearly separable sets, that can be $K_{1,3}$-covered.
(2) If $r=3g+h$, $b=3h+g$ and the points in $R\cup B$ are in convex position, then at least $r+b-4$ points can be $K_{1,3}$-covered, and this bound is tight.
(3) There are arbitrarily large point sets $R\cup B$ in general position, with $r=b+1$, such that at most $r+b-5$ points can be $K_{1,3}$-covered.
(4) If $b\le r\le 3b$, then at least $\frac{8}{9}(r+b-8)$ points of $R\cup B$ can be $K_{1,3}$-covered. For $r>3b$, there are too many red points and at least $r-3b$ of them will remain uncovered in any $K_{1,3}$-covering.
Furthermore, in all the cases we provide efficient algorithms to compute the corresponding coverings.

We construct a new bijection between the set of $n\times k$ $0$-$1$ matrices with no three $1$'s forming a $Γ$ configuration and the set of $(n,k)$-Callan sequences, a simple structure counted by poly-Bernoulli numbers. We give two applications of this result: We derive the generating function of $Γ$-free matrices, and we give a new bijective proof for an elegant result of Aval et al. that states that the number of complete non-ambiguous forests with $n$ leaves is equal to the number of pairs of permutations of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ with no common rise.
On some three color Ramsey numbers for paths, cycles, stripes and stars

For given graphs $G_{1}, G_{2}, ... , G_{k}, k \geq 2$, the multicolor Ramsey number $R(G_{1}, G_{2}, ... , G_{k})$ is the smallest integer $n$ such that if we arbitrarily color the edges of the complete graph of order $n$ with $k$ colors, then it always contains a monochromatic copy of $G_{i}$ colored with $i$, for some $1 \leq i \leq k$. The bipartite Ramsey number $b(G_1, \cdots, G_k)$ is the least positive integer $b$ such that any coloring of the edges of $K_{b,b}$ with $k$ colors will result in a monochromatic copy of bipartite $G_i$ in the $i$-th color, for some $i$, $1 \le i \le k$.
There is very little known about $R(G_{1},\ldots, G_{k})$ even for very special graphs, there are a lot of open cases. In this paper, by using bipartite Ramsey numbers we obtain the exact values of some multicolor Ramsey numbers. We show that for sufficiently large $n_{0}$ and three following cases:
1. $n_{1}=2s$, $n_{2}=2m$ and $m-1<2s$,
2. $n_{1}=n_{2}=2s$,
3. $n_{1}=2s+1$, $n_{2}=2m$ and $s<m-1<2s+1$, we have
$$R(C_{n_0}, P_{n_{1}},P_{n_{2}}) = n_0 + \Big \lfloor \frac{n_1}{2} \Big \rfloor + \Big \lfloor \frac{n_2}{2} \Big \rfloor -2.$$
We prove that $R(P_n,kK_{2},kK_{2})=n+2k-2$ for large $n$. In addition, we prove that for even $k$, $R((k-1)K_{2},P_{k},P_{k})=3k-4$. For $s < m-1<2s+1$ and $t\geq m+s-1$, we obtain that $R(tK_{2},P_{2s+1},P_{2m})=s+m+2t-2$ where $P_{k}$ is a path on $k$ vertices and $tK_{2}$ is a matching of size $t$.
We also provide some new exact values or generalize known results for other multicolor Ramsey numbers of paths, cycles, stripes and stars versus other graphs.
