Tropical Jacobians in R2

By tropical Abel-Jacobi theorem, the Jacobian of a tropical curve is isomorphic to the Picard group. A tropical curve in $\mathbb{R}^2$ corresponds to an immersion from a tropical curve to $\mathbb{R}^2$. In this paper, we show that any principal divisor on a tropical curve is the restriction of a principal divisor on the ambient plane $\mathbb{R}^2$.
Bailey Type Transforms and Applications
The aim of this paper is to establish new series transforms of Bailey type and to show that these Bailey type transforms work as efficiently as the classical one and give not only new $q$-hypergeometric identities, converting double or triple series into a very-well-poised $_{10}Φ_9$ or $_{12}Φ_{11}$ series but can also be utilized to derive new double and triple series Rogers-Ramanujan type identities and corresponding infinite families of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities.

Let S be a polynomial ring and R=S/I where I is a graded ideal of S. The Multiplicity Conjecture of Herzog, Huneke, and Srinivasan which was recently proved using the Boij-Soederberg theory states that the multiplicity of R is bounded above by a function of the maximal shifts in the minimal graded free resolution of R over S as well as bounded below by a function of the minimal shifts if R is Cohen-Macaulay. In this paper we study the related problem to show that the total Betti-numbers of R are also bounded above by a function of the shifts in the minimal graded free resolution of R as well as bounded below by another function of the shifts if R is Cohen-Macaulay. We also discuss the cases when these bounds are sharp.
Quantum Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes

In this paper, a construction of a pair of "regular" quasi-cyclic LDPC codes as ingredient codes for a quantum error-correcting code is proposed. That is, we find quantum regular LDPC codes with various weight distributions. Furthermore our proposed codes have lots of variations for length, code rate. These codes are obtained by a descrete mathematical characterization for model matrices of quasi-cyclic LDPC codes.
Our proposed codes achieve a bounded distance decoding (BDD) bound, or known as VG bound, and achieve a lower bound of the code length.

Discrete excursions

It is well-known that the length generating function E(t) of Dyck paths (excursions with steps +1 and -1) satisfies 1-E+t^2E^2=0. The generating function E^(k)(t) of Dyck paths of height at most k is E^(k)=F_k/F_{k+1}, where the F_k are polynomials in t given by F_0=F_1=1 and F_{k+1}= F_k-t^2F_{k-1}. This means that the generating function of these polynomials is \sum_{k\ge 0} F_k z^k= 1/(1-z+t^2z^2). We note that the denominator of this fraction is the minimal polynomial of the algebraic series E(t). This pattern persists for walks with more general steps. For any finite set of steps S, the generating function E^(k)(t) of excursions (generalized Dyck paths) taking their steps in S and of height at most k is the ratio F_k/F_{k+1} of two polynomials. These polynomials satisfy a linear recurrence relation with coefficients in Q[t]. Their (rational) generating function can be written \sum_{k\ge 0} F_k z^k= N(t,z)/D(t,z). The excursion generating function E(t) is algebraic and satisfies D(t,E(t))=0 (while N(t,E(t))\not = 0). If max S=a and min S=b, the polynomials D(t,z) and N(t,z) can be taken to be respectively of degree d_{a,b}=binomial(a+b,a) and d_{a,b}-a-b in z. These degrees are in general optimal: for instance, when S={a,-b} with a and b coprime, D(t,z) is irreducible, and is thus the minimal polynomial of the excursion generating function E(t). The proofs of these results involve a slightly unusual mixture of combinatorial and algebraic tools, among which the kernel method (which solves certain functional equations), symmetric functions, and a pinch of Galois theory.
Circular colorings, orientations, and weighted digraphs
In this we consider weighted symmetric digraph. Our result generalizes the work of Zhu (J.Comb.Theory, Ser.B, 86 (2002) 109-113) concerning the (k,d)-coloring of a graph, and thus is also a generalization of a corresponding result of Tuza
(J.Comb.Theory, Ser.B, 55 (1992) 236-243). Our result also strengthens a result of Goddyn, Tarsi and Zhang (J.Graph Theory 28 (1998) 155-161) concerning the relation between orientation and the
(k,d)-coloring of a graph.
On non-projective block components of Lefschetz characters for sporadic geometries

This work examines the possible projectivity of 2-modular block parts of non-projective Lefschetz characters over 2-local geometries of several sporadic groups. Previously known results on $M_{12}$, $J_2$, and $HS$ are mentioned for completeness. The main new results are on the sporadic groups $Suz$, $Co_3$, $Ru$, $O'N$, and $He$. For each group, the Lefschetz character is calculated, and the 2-modular blocks are examined for projectivity. In each case it is confirmed that a non-principal block contains a non-projective summand. The case of $O'N$ is additionally found to have a non-projective summand in its principal block part.

In 1942 I. J. Schoenberg proved that a function is positive definite in the unit sphere if and only if this function is a positive linear combination of the Gegenbauer polynomials. In this paper we extend Schoenberg's theorem for multivariate Gegenbauer polynomials. This extension derives new positive semidefinite constraints for the distance distribution which can be applied for spherical codes.

We introduce a statistic $\pmaj$ on partitions of $[n]=\{1,2,..., n\}$, and show that it is equidistributed with the number of 2-crossings over partitions of $[n]$ with given sets of minimal block elements and maximal block elements. This generalizes the classical result of equidistribution for the permutation statistics inversion number and major index.

We prove an upper bound for characters of the symmetric groups. Namely, we show that there exists a constant a>0 with a property that for every Young diagram λwith n boxes, r(λ) rows and c(λ) columns |Tr ρ^λ(π) / Tr ρ^λ(e)| < [a max(r(λ)/n, c(λ)/n,|π|/n) ]^{|π|}, where |π| is the minimal number of factors needed to write π\in S_n as a product of transpositions. We also give uniform estimates for the error term in the Vershik-Kerov's and Biane's character formulas and give a new formula for free cumulants of the transition measure.
On the Bilateral Series $_2ψ_2$
We obtain a formula which reduces the evaluation of a $_2ψ_2$ series to two $_2φ_1$ series. In some sense, this identity may be considered as a companion of Slater's formulas. We also find that a two-term ${}_2ψ_2$ summation formula due to Slater can be derived from a unilateral summation formula of Andrews by bilateral extension and parameter augmentation.
A note on log-convexity of q-Catalan numbers

The q-Catalan numbers studied by Carlitz and Riordan are polynomials in q with nonnegative coefficients. They evaluate, at q=1, to the Catalan numbers: 1, 1, 2, 5, 14,..., a log-convex sequence. We use a combinatorial interpretation of these polynomials to prove a q-log-convexity result. The sequence of q-Catalan numbers is not q-log-convex in the narrow sense used by other authors, so our work suggests a more flexible definition of q-log convex be adopted.
A Unified Elementary Approach to the Dyson, Morris, Aomoto, and Forrester Constant Term Identities

We introduce an elementary method to give unified proofs of the Dyson, Morris, and Aomoto identities for constant terms of Laurent polynomials. These identities can be expressed as equalities of polynomials and thus can be proved by verifying them for sufficiently many values, usually at negative integers where they vanish. Our method also proves some special cases of the Forrester conjecture.

Let A be a finite set of integers. For a polynomial f(x_1,...,x_n) with integer coefficients, let f(A) = {f(a_1,...,a_n) : a_1,...,a_n \in A}. In this paper it is proved that for every pair of normalized binary linear forms f(x,y)=u_1x+v_1y and g(x,y)=u_2x+v_2y with integral coefficients, there exist arbitrarily large finite sets of integers A and B such that |f(A)| > |g(A)| and |f(B)| < |g(B)|.

Three dimensional pseudomanifolds on eight vertices

A normal pseudomanifold is a pseudomanifold in which the links of simplices are also pseudomanifolds. So, a normal 2-pseudomanifold triangulates a connected closed 2-manifold. But, normal $d$-pseudomanifolds form a broader class than triangulations of connected closed $d$-manifolds for $d \geq 3$. Here, we classify all the 8-vertex neighbourly normal 3-pseudomanifolds. This gives a classification of all the 8-vertex normal 3-pseudomanifolds. There are 73 such 3-pseudomanifolds, 38 of which triangulate the 3-sphere and other 35 are not combinatorial 3-manifolds. These 35 triangulate six distinct topological spaces. As a preliminary result, we show that any 8-vertex 3-pseudomanifold is equivalent by proper bistellar moves to an 8-vertex neighbourly 3-pseudomanifold. This result is the best possible since there exists a 9-vertex non-neighbourly 3-pseudomanifold ($B^3_9$ in Example 7 below) which does not allow any proper bistellar moves.
Old and new examples of k-nets in P^2
In this paper, we present a number of examples of k-nets, which are special configurations of lines and points in the projective plane. Such a configuration can be regarded as the union of k completely reducible elements of a pencil of complex plane curves; equivalently it can be regarded as a set of k polygons in the complex projective plane that satisfy a condition of mutual perspectivity and nondegenerate intersection. For each example, we describe its construction, combinatorial properties, and parameter space. Most of the examples are historical, although perhaps not very well-known; our only essentially new example is a 3-net of pentagons which does not realize a group. The existence of this example settles a question posed by S. Yuzvinsky.

An adjacent vertex distinguishing edge-coloring or an \avd-coloring of a simple graph $G$ is a proper edge-coloring of $G$ such that no pair of adjacent vertices meets the same set of colors. We prove that every graph with maximum degree $Δ$ and with no isolated edges has an \avd-coloring with at most $Δ+300$ colors, provided that $Δ>10^{20}$.
