Trees with extremal Laplacian eigenvalue multiplicity
Let $T$ be a tree. Suppose $λ$ is an eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix of $T$ with multiplicity $m_{T}(λ)$. It is known that $m_{T}(λ) \leq p(T)-1$, where $p(T)$ is the number of pendant vertices of $T$. In this paper, we characterize all trees $T$ for which there exists an eigenvalue $λ$ such that $m_{T}(λ)=p(T)-1$. We show that such trees are precisely either paths, or there exists an integer $q$ such that if $α$ and $β$ are two distinct pendant vertices, then the distance $d(α,β)$ satisfies $d(α, β) \equiv 2q ~{\rm{mod}}~(2q+1)$. As a consequence, we show that $1$ is an eigenvalue of $L_T$ with multiplicity $p(T)-1$ if and only if $d(α,β) \equiv 2\,\mbox{mod}\, 3$ for all distinct pendant vertices $α$ and $β$ of $T$.

On Ward Numbers and Increasing Schröder Trees
The Ward numbers $W(n,k)$ combinatorially enumerate set partitions with block sizes $\geq 2$ and phylogenetic trees (total partition trees). We prove that $W(n,k)$ also counts \emph{increasing Schröder trees} by verifying they satisfy Ward's recurrence. We construct a direct type-preserving bijection between total partition trees and increasing Schröder trees, complementing known type-preserving bijections to set partitions (including Chen's decomposition for increasing Schröder trees). Weighted generalizations extend these bijections to enriched increasing Schröder trees trees and Schröder trees trees, yielding new links to labeled rooted trees. Finally, we deduce a functional equation for weighted increasing Schröder trees, whose solution using Chen's decomposition leads to a combinatorial interpretation of a Lagrange inversion variant.

Distribution of the roots of Eulerian polynomials
We give a new proof that the empirical measures of the roots of Eulerian polynomials converge to a certain log-Cauchy distribution. To do so, we show that each moment of the roots of a related family of polynomials not only converge, but in fact become ultimately constant. These asymptotic moments are expressed in terms of Cauchy numbers of the second kind.

Domino tilings, nonintersecting lattice paths and subclasses of Koutschan-Krattenthaler-Schlosser determinants
Koutschan, Krattenthaler and Schlosser recently considered a family of binomial determinants. In this work, we give combinatorial interpretations of two subclasses of these determinants in terms of domino tilings and nonintersecting lattice paths, thereby partially answering a question of theirs. Furthermore, the determinant evaluations established by Koutschan, Krattenthaler and Schlosser produce many product formulas for our weighted enumerations of domino tilings and nonintersecting lattice paths. However, there are still two enumerations left corresponding to conjectural formulas made by the three. We hereby prove the two conjectures using the principle of holonomic Ansatz plus the approach of modular reduction for creative telescoping, and hence fill the gap.

The Complexity of Color-constrained Paths in Semicomplete Multipartite Digraphs
Every semicomplete multipartite digraph contains a quasi-Hamiltonian path, but the problem of finding a quasi-Hamiltonian path with prescribed start and end vertex is NP-complete even when restricted to semicomplete multipartite digraphs with independence number exactly 3. Bang-Jensen, Wang and Yeo (arXiv 2024) showed that deciding the presence of a quasi-Hamiltonian cycle which does not contain at least one vertex from each color class is NP-complete. Similarly, deciding the presence of a quasi-Hamiltonian cycle which intersects every part exactly once is also NP-complete as shown in the same work. In this paper, we continue the study of paths with constraints on the number of covered vertices from each color class. We consider the problem of finding a path with prescribed start and end vertex that contains at least $a$ and at most $b$ vertices from each color class where all color classes have size exactly $α$. This unifies the Hamiltonian path problem, the quasi-Hamiltonian path problem and the path-version of the cycle problems mentioned above, among other problems. Using Schaefer's dichotomy theorem, we classify the complexity of almost all problems in our framework. Notable open problems are the Hamiltonian path problem on semicomplete multipartite digraphs as well as the quasi-Hamiltonian path problem restricted to semicomplete multipartite digraphs with independence number 2. We then investigate the quasi-Hamiltonian path problem restricted to semicomplete multipartite digraphs with independence number 2. We generalize sufficient criteria for Hamiltonian $(s,t)$-paths in semicomplete digraphs to sufficient criteria for quasi-Hamiltonian $(s,t)$-paths in this class. Although this does not settle the problem, the initial results suggest that this special case may be solvable in polynomial time.

Erdős's unit distance problem and rigidity
According to a classical result of Spencer, Szemerédi, and Trotter (1984), the maximum number of times the unit distance can occur among $n$ points in the plane is $O(n^{4/3})$. This is far from Erdős's lower bound, $n^{1+O(1/\log\log n)}$, which is conjectured to be optimal. We prove a structural result for point sets with nearly $n^{4/3}$ unit distances and use it to reduce the problem to a conjecture on rigid frameworks. This conjecture, if true, would yield the first improvement on the bound of Spencer et al. A weaker version of this conjecture has been established by the last two authors.
Matroids and the integral Hodge conjecture for abelian varieties
We prove that the cohomology class of any curve on a very general principally polarized abelian variety of dimension at least 4 is an even multiple of the minimal class. The same holds for the intermediate Jacobian of a very general cubic threefold. This disproves the integral Hodge conjecture for abelian varieties and shows that very general cubic threefolds are not stably rational. Our proof is motivated by tropical geometry; it relies on multivariable Mumford constructions, monodromy considerations, and the combinatorial theory of matroids.

Sidorenko-Type Inequalities for Even Subdivisions over Finite Abelian Groups
Sidorenko's conjecture asserts that every bipartite graph $H$ has the property that, for any host graph $G$, the homomorphism density from $H$ to $G$ is asymptotically at least as large as in a quasirandom graph with the same edge density as $G$. While the conjecture remains still very open, Szegedy showed that it suffices to verify the inequality when the host graph is a Cayley graph over a finite group. In this paper, we prove that Sidorenko's conjecture holds for all even subdivisions of arbitrary graphs when the host graph is a Cayley graph over an abelian group. That is, if each edge of a graph is replaced by a path of even length (allowing different lengths for different edges), then the resulting graph satisfies the Sidorenko's inequality in any abelian Cayley host graph. Our approach reduces the homomorphism count to the evaluation of certain averages over solution sets of linear systems over finite abelian groups, and proceeds using Fourier-analytic techniques.
Asymptotic normality of embedding distributions of some families of graphs
Computing the embedding distribution of a given graph is a fundamental question in topological graph theory. In this article, we extend our viewpoint to a sequence of graphs and consider their asymptotic embedding distributions, which are often the normal distribution. We establish the asymptotic normality of several families of graphs by developing adapted tools and frameworks. We expect that these tools and frameworks can be used on other families of graphs to establish the asymptotic normality of their embedding distributions. Several open questions and conjectures are also raised in our investigation.

Pairs of intertwined integer sequences
In previous work we computed the number $C_n(q)$ of ideals of codimension $n$ of the algebra ${\mathbb{F}}_q[x,y,x^{-1}, y^{-1}]$ of two-variable Laurent polynomials over a finite field: it turned out that $C_n(q)$ is a palindromic polynomial of degree $2n$ in $q$, divisible by $(q-1)^2$. The quotient $P_n(q) = C_n(q)/(q-1)^2$ is a palindromic polynomial of degree $2n-2$. For each $n\geq 1$ let ${\overline{P}}_n(X) \in {\mathbb{Z}}[X]$ be the degree $n-1$ polynomial such that ${\overline{P}}_n(q+q^{-1}) = P_n(q)/q^{n-1}$. In this note we show that for any integer $N$ the integer value ${\overline{P}}_n(N)$ is close to the value at $N$ of the degree $n-1$ polynomial $F_{n-1}(X) = 1 + \sum_{k=1}^{n-1} \, {\overline{T}}_k(X)$, which is a sum of monic versions ${\overline{T}}_k(X)$ of Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. We give a precise formula for ${\overline{P}}_n(X)$ as a linear combination of $F_k(X)$'s, each appearance of the latter being parametrized by an odd divisor of $n$. As a consequence, ${\overline{P}}_n(X) = F_{n-1}(X)$ if and only if $n$ is a power of $2$. We exhibit similar formulas for $C_n(q)$.

Some Lagrangian quiver Grassmannians for the equioriented cycle
The goal of this paper is to better understand a family of linear degenerations of the classical Lagrangian Grassmannians $Λ(2n)$. It is the special case for $k=n$ of the varieties $X(k,2n)^{sp}$, introduced in previous joint work with Evgeny Feigin, Martina Lanini and Alexander Pütz. These varieties are obtained as isotropic subvarieties of a family of quiver Grassmannians $X(n,2n)$, and are acted on by a linear degeneration of the algebraic group $Sp_{2n}$. We prove a conjecture proposed in the paper above for this particular case, which states that the ordering on the set of orbits in $X(n,2n)^{sp}$ given by closure-inclusion coincides with a combinatorially defined order on what are called symplectic $(n,2n)$-juggling patterns, much in the same way that the $Sp_{2n}$ orbits in $Λ(2n)$ are parametrized by a type C Weyl group with the Bruhat order. The dimension of such orbits is computed via the combinatorics of bounded affine permutations, and it coincides with the length of some permutation in a Coxeter group of affine type C. Furthermore, the varieties $X(n,2n)$ are GKM, that is, they have trivial cohomology in odd degree and are equipped with the action of an algebraic torus with finitely many fixed points and 1-dimensional orbits. In this paper it is proven that $X(n,2n)^{sp}$ is also GKM, with respect to the action of a subtorus of the above torus.

On the reconstruction of trees from their chromatic symmetric functions
We study Stanley's chromatic symmetric function (CSF) for trees when expressed in the star basis. We use the deletion-near-contraction (DNC) algorithm to compute coefficients that occur in the CSF in the star basis. In particular, one of our main results determines the smallest partition in lexicographic order that occurs as an indexing partition in the CSF, and we also give a formula for its coefficient. In addition to describing properties of trees encoded in the coefficients of the star basis, we give an algorithm for reconstructing trees of diameter less than six.

New Steiner systems $S(2,6,v)$ with block length 6
In this paper various Steiner systems $S(2,k,v)$ for $k = 6$ are collected and enumerated for specific constructions. In particular, two earlier unknown types of $1$-rotational designs are found for the groups $SL(2,5)$ and $((\mathbb Z_3 \times \mathbb Z_3) \rtimes \mathbb Z_3) \times \mathbb Z_5$. Also new Steiner systems $S(2,6,96), S(2,6,106), S(2,6,111)$ are listed.

A Best Possible General Form of the Master Theorem for Divide-and-Conquer Recurrences
We give here a general, best-possible, and smoothly-derived form of the Master Theorem for divide-and-conquer recurrences.
Monotone Circuit Complexity of Matching
We show that the perfect matching function on $n$-vertex graphs requires monotone circuits of size $\smash{2^{n^{Ω(1)}}}$. This improves on the $n^{Ω(\log n)}$ lower bound of Razborov (1985). Our proof uses the standard approximation method together with a new sunflower lemma for matchings.

A note on $χ$-unbounded classes of geometric graphs
We show that there exist infinitely many classes of intersection graphs of geometric objects that are not $χ$-bounded -- namely, $d$-CBU graphs for $d\geq 3$ -- and each is incomparable with the class of Burling graphs. This answers a folklore open problem on whether Burling graphs are the sole source of unbounded chromatic number among geometric intersection classes.

Morse matchings and Khovanov homology of 4-strand torus links
Given a link or a tangle diagram, we define algorithmic Morse theoretic simplifications on their Khovanov homology. In contrast to Bar-Natan's scanning algorithm, the cancellations are postponed until the end and performed in one go. Although our novel approach is computationally inferior to Bar-Natan's algorithm, it side-steps the need for a large amount of iterations, making it more fitting for theoretical analysis. Our main application is towards integral Khovanov homology of 4-strand torus links, for which we compute non-trivial Khovanov homology groups in all homological degrees and find an abundance of $4$-torsion. At the limit $T(4,\infty)$, our computations agree with a conjecture of Gorsky, Oblomkov and Rasmussen. For finite $n$, we use the $λ$-invariant of Lewark, Marino and Zibrowius to derive lower bounds on proper rational Gordian distances from $T(4,n)$.
Local (Outer) Multiset Dimensions of Graphs
Let $G$ be a finite, connected, undirected, and simple graph and $W$ be a set of vertices in $G$. A representation multiset of a vertex $u$ in $V(G)$ with respect to $W$ is defined as the multiset of distances between $u$ and the vertices in $W$. If every two adjacent vertices in $V(G)$ have a distinct multiset representation, the set $W$ is called a local multiset resolving set of $G$. If $G$ has a local multiset resolving set, then this set with the smallest cardinality is called the local multiset basis, and its cardinality is the local multiset dimension of $G$. Otherwise, $G$ is said to have an infinite local multiset dimension. On the other hand, if every two adjacent vertices in $V(G) \backslash W$ have a distinct representation multiset, the set $W$ is called a local outer multiset resolving set of $G$. Such a set with the smallest cardinality is called the local outer multiset basis, and its cardinality is the local outer multiset dimension of $G$. Unlike the local multiset dimension, every graph has a finite local outer multiset dimension. This paper presents some basic properties of local (outer) multiset dimensions, including lower bounds for the dimensions and a necessary condition for a finite local multiset dimension. We also determine local (outer) multiset dimensions for some graphs of small diameter.

Fair coalition in graphs
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a simple graph. A dominating set of $G$ is a subset $D\subseteq V$ such that every vertex not in $D$ is adjacent to at least one vertex in $D$. The cardinality of a smallest dominating set of $G$, denoted by $γ(G)$, is the domination number of $G$. For $k \geq 1$, a $k$-fair dominating set ($kFD$-set) in $G$, is a dominating set $S$ such that $|N(v) \cap D|=k$ for every vertex $ v \in V\setminus D$. A fair dominating set in $G$ is a $kFD$-set for some integer $k\geq 1$. We consider $1FD$-sets and define a fair coalition in a graph $G$ as a pair of disjoint subsets $A_1, A_2 \subseteq A$ that satisfy the following conditions: (a) neither $A_1$ nor $A_2$ constitutes a $1$-fair dominating set of $G$, and (b) $A_1\cup A_2$ constitutes a $1$-fair dominating set of $G$. A fair coalition partition of a graph $G$ is a partition $Υ= \{A_1,A_2,\ldots,A_k\}$ of its vertex set such that every set $A_i$ of $Υ$ is either a singleton $1$-fair dominating set of $G$, or is not a $1$-fair dominating set of $G$ but forms a fair coalition with another non-$1$-fair dominating set $A_j\in Υ$. We define the fair coalition number of $G$ as the maximum cardinality of a fair coalition partition of $G$, and we denote it by $\mathcal{C}_f(G)$. We initiate the study of the fair coalition in graphs and obtain $\mathcal{C}_f(G)$ for some specific graphs.
On rainbow caterpillars in elementary $p$-groups
Given a finite Abelian group $(A,+)$, consider a tree $T$ with $|A|$ vertices. The labeling $f \colon V (T) \rightarrow A$ of the vertices of some graph $G$ induces an edge labeling in $G$, thus the edge $uv$ receives the label $f (u) + f (v)$. The tree $T$ is $A$-rainbow colored if $f$ is a bijection and edges have different colors. In this paper, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for a caterpillar with three spine vertices to be $A$-rainbow, when $A$ is an elementary $p$-group.
