Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for Grothendieck polynomials from integrability

We study the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients of double Grothendieck polynomials indexed by Grassmannian permutations. Geometrically, these are the structure constants of the equivariant $K$-theory ring of Grassmannians. Representing the double Grothendieck polynomials as partition functions of an integrable vertex model, we use its Yang-Baxter equation to derive a series of product rules for the former polynomials and their duals. The Littlewood-Richardson coefficients that arise can all be expressed in terms of puzzles without gashes, which generalize previous puzzles obtained by Knutson-Tao and Vakil.

We prove that the normalisation of the stationary state of the multi-species asymmetric simple exclusion process (mASEP) is a specialisation of a Koornwinder polynomial. As a corollary we obtain that the normalisation of mASEP factorises as a product over multiple copies of the two-species ASEP.

We introduce a new family of symmetric multivariate polynomials, whose coefficients are meromorphic functions of two parameters $(q,t)$ and polynomial in a further two parameters $(u,v)$. We evaluate these polynomials explicitly as a matrix product. At $u=v=0$ they reduce to Macdonald polynomials, while at $q=0$, $u=v=s$ they recover a family of inhomogeneous symmetric functions originally introduced by Borodin.

We study two different one-parameter generalizations of Littlewood--Richardson coefficients, namely Hall polynomials and generalized inverse Kostka polynomials, and derive new combinatorial formulae for them. Our combinatorial expressions are closely related to puzzles, originally introduced by Knutson and Tao in their work on the equivariant cohomology of the Grassmannian.

We present a new, explicit sum formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials $P_λ$ and show that they can be written as a trace over a product of (infinite dimensional) matrices. These matrices satisfy the Zamolodchikov--Faddeev (ZF) algebra. We construct solutions of the ZF algebra from a rank-reduced version of the Yang--Baxter algebra. As a corollary, we find that the normalization of the stationary measure of the multi-species asymmetric exclusion process is a Macdonald polynomial with all variables set equal to one.

We study Hall-Littlewood polynomials using an integrable lattice model of $t$-deformed bosons. Working with row-to-row transfer matrices, we review the construction of Hall-Littlewood polynomials (of the $A_n$ root system) within the framework of this model. Introducing appropriate double-row transfer matrices, we extend this formalism to Hall-Littlewood polynomials based on the $BC_n$ root system, and obtain a new combinatorial formula for them. We then apply our methods to prove a series of refined Cauchy and Littlewood identities involving Hall-Littlewood polynomials. The last two of these identities are new, and relate infinite sums over hyperoctahedrally symmetric Hall-Littlewood polynomials with partition functions of the six-vertex model on finite domains.

We derive an explicit sum formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our expression contains multiple sums over the symmetric group and uses the action of Hecke generators on the ring of polynomials. In the special cases $t=1$ and $q=0$, we recover known expressions for the monomial symmetric and Hall-Littlewood polynomials, respectively. Other specializations of our formula give new expressions for the Jack and $q$-Whittaker polynomials.

We derive a matrix product formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our results are obtained by constructing polynomial solutions of deformed Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equations, which arise by considering representations of the Zamolodchikov--Faddeev and Yang--Baxter algebras in terms of $t$-deformed bosonic operators. These solutions form a basis of the ring of polynomials in $n$ variables, whose elements are indexed by compositions. For weakly increasing compositions (anti-dominant weights), these basis elements coincide with non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our formulas imply a natural combinatorial interpretation in terms of solvable lattice models. They also imply that normalisations of stationary states of multi-species exclusion processes are obtained as Macdonald polynomials at $q=1$.

We prove and conjecture some new symmetric function identities, which equate the generating series of 1. Plane partitions, subject to certain restrictions and weightings, and 2. Alternating sign matrices, subject to certain symmetry properties. The left hand side of each of our identities is a simple refinement of a relevant Cauchy or Littlewood identity, allowing them to be interpreted as generating series for plane partitions. The right hand side of each identity is a partition function of the six-vertex model, on a relevant domain. These can be interpreted as generating series for alternating sign matrices, using the well known bijection with six-vertex model configurations.
