Regular Bipartite Graphs And Their Properties
We introduce a new notation for representing labeled regular bipartite graphs of arbitrary degree. Several enumeration problems for labeled and unlabeled regular bipartite graphs have been introduced. A general algorithm for enumerating all non-isomorphic 2-regular bipartite graphs for a specified number of vertices has been described and a mathematical proof has been provided for its completeness. An abstraction of m Symmetric Permutation Tree in order to visualize a labeled r-Regular Bipartite Graph with 2m vertices and enumerate its automorphism group has been introduced. An algorithm to generate the partition associated with two compatible permutations has been introduced. The relationship between Automorphism Group and permutation enumeration problem has been used to derive formulae for the number of compatible permutations corresponding to a specified partition.

In this paper, we give a decomposition of triply rooted trees into three doubly rooted trees. This leads to a combinatorial interpretation of an identity conjectured by Lacasse in the study of the PAC-Bayesian machine learning theory, and proved by Younsi by using the Hurwitz identity on multivariate Abel polynomials. We also give a bijection between the set of functions from $[n+1]$ to $[n]$ and the set of triply rooted trees on $[n]$, which leads to the refined enumeration of functions from $[n+1]$ to $[n]$ with respect to the number of elements in the orbit of $n+1$ and the number of periodic points.

A poset is (3+1)-free if it does not contain the disjoint union of chains of length 3 and 1 as an induced subposet. These posets are the subject of the (3+1)-free conjecture of Stanley and Stembridge. Recently, Lewis and Zhang have enumerated \emph{graded} (3+1)-free posets, but until now the general enumeration problem has remained open. We enumerate all (3+1)-free posets by giving a decomposition into bipartite graphs, and obtain generating functions for (3+1)-free posets with labelled or unlabelled vertices.

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. Musson and vandenBergh classified primitive ideals for rings of torus invariant differential operators. This classification applies in particular to subquotients of localized extended Weyl algebras where it can be made explicit in terms of convex geometry. We recall these result and then turn to the corresponding primitive quotients and study their Goldie ranks. We prove that the primitive quotients fall into finitely many families whose Goldie ranks are given by a common quasi-polynomial and then realize these quasi-polynomials as Ehrhart quasi-polynomials arising from convex geometry.

A simple topological graph T = (V(T), E(T)) is a drawing of a graph in the plane where every two edges have at most one common point (an endpoint or a crossing) and no three edges pass through a single crossing. Topological graphs G and H are isomorphic if H can be obtained from G by a homeomorphism of the sphere, and weakly isomorphic if G and H have the same set of pairs of crossing edges. We generalize results of Pach and Toth and the author's previous results on counting different drawings of a graph under both notions of isomorphism. We prove that for every graph G with n vertices, m edges and no isolated vertices the number of weak isomorphism classes of simple topological graphs that realize G is at most 2^O(n^2 log(m/n)), and at most 2^O(mn^{1/2} log n) if m < n^{3/2}. As a consequence we obtain a new upper bound 2^O(n^{3/2} log n) on the number of intersection graphs of n pseudosegments. We improve the upper bound on the number of weak isomorphism classes of simple complete topological graphs with n vertices to 2^{n^2 alpha(n)^O(1)}, using an upper bound on the size of a set of permutations with bounded VC-dimension recently proved by Cibulka and the author. We show that the number of isomorphism classes of simple topological graphs that realize G is at most 2^{m^2+O(mn)} and at least 2^Omega(m^2) for graphs with m > (6+epsilon)n.

In this paper we consider the enumeration of ordered set partitions avoiding a permutation pattern of length 2 or 3. We provide an exact enumeration for avoiding the permutation 12. We also give exact enumeration for ordered partitions with 3 blocks and ordered partitions with n-1 blocks avoiding a permutation of length 3. We use enumeration schemes to recursively enumerate 123-avoiding ordered partitions with any block sizes. Finally, we give some asymptotic results for the growth rates of the number of ordered set partitions avoiding a single pattern; including a Stanley-Wilf type that exhibits existence of such growth rates.

We consider packings of congruent circles on a square flat torus, i.e., periodic (w.r.t. a square lattice) planar circle packings, with the maximal circle radius. This problem is interesting due to a practical reason - the problem of "super resolution of images." We have found optimal arrangements for N=6, 7 and 8 circles. Surprisingly, for the case N=7 there are three different optimal arrangements. Our proof is based on a computer enumeration of toroidal irreducible contact graphs.

This paper is dedicated to the factorizations of the symmetric group. Introducing a new bijection for partitioned 3-cacti, we derive an el- egant formula for the number of factorizations of a long cycle into a product of three permutations. As the most salient aspect, our construction provides the first purely combinatorial computation of this number.
The Encoding of Natural Numbers as Nested Parentheses Strings with Associated Probability Distributions
We provide an efficient encoding of the natural numbers {0,1,2,3,...} as strings of nested parentheses {(),(()),(()()),((())),...}, or considered inversely, an efficient enumeration of such strings. The technique is based on the recursive definition of the Catalan numbers. The probability distributions arising from this encoding are explored. Applications of this encoding to prefix-free data encoding and recursive function theory are briefly considered.
Some open problems on permutation patterns
This is a brief survey of some open problems on permutation patterns, with an emphasis on subjects not covered in the recent book by Kitaev, \emph{Patterns in Permutations and words}. I first survey recent developments on the enumeration and asymptotics of the pattern 1324, the last pattern of length 4 whose asymptotic growth is unknown, and related issues such as upper bounds for the number of avoiders of any pattern of length $k$ for any given $k$. Other subjects treated are the Möbius function, topological properties and other algebraic aspects of the poset of permutations, ordered by containment, and also the study of growth rates of permutation classes, which are containment closed subsets of this poset.
New Computational Upper Bounds for Ramsey Numbers R(3,k)

Using computational techniques we derive six new upper bounds on the classical two-color Ramsey numbers: R(3,10) <= 42, R(3,11) <= 50, R(3,13) <= 68, R(3,14) <= 77, R(3,15) <= 87, and R(3,16) <= 98. All of them are improvements by one over the previously best known bounds.
Let e(3,k,n) denote the minimum number of edges in any triangle-free graph on n vertices without independent sets of order k. The new upper bounds on R(3,k) are obtained by completing the computation of the exact values of e(3,k,n) for all n with k <= 9 and for all n <= 33 for k = 10, and by establishing new lower bounds on e(3,k,n) for most of the open cases for 10 <= k <= 15. The enumeration of all graphs witnessing the values of e(3,k,n) is completed for all cases with k <= 9. We prove that the known critical graph for R(3,9) on 35 vertices is unique up to isomorphism. For the case of R(3,10), first we establish that R(3,10) = 43 if and only if e(3,10,42) = 189, or equivalently, that if R(3,10) = 43 then every critical graph is regular of degree 9. Then, using computations, we disprove the existence of the latter, and thus show that R(3,10) <= 42.
Refined enumeration of permutations sorted with two stacks and a D_8-symmetry

We study permutations that are sorted by operators of the form $\mathbf{S} \circ α\circ \mathbf{S}$, where $\mathbf{S}$ is the usual stack sorting operator introduced by D. Knuth and $α$ is any $D_8$-symmetry obtained combining the classical reverse, complement and inverse operations. Such permutations can be characterized by excluded (generalized) patterns. Some conjectures about the enumeration of these permutations, refined with numerous classical statistics, have been proposed by A. Claesson, M. Dukes and E. Steingrímsson. We prove these conjectures, and enrich one of them with a few more statistics. The proofs mostly rely on generating trees techniques, and on a recent bijection of S. Giraudo between Baxter and twisted Baxter permutations.
Asymptotic enumeration of vertex-transitive graphs of fixed valency
Let $G$ be a group and let $S$ be an inverse-closed and identity-free generating set of $G$. The \emph{Cayley graph} $\Cay(G,S)$ has vertex-set $G$ and two vertices $u$ and $v$ are adjacent if and only if $uv^{-1}\in S$. Let $CAY_d(n)$ be the number of isomorphism classes of $d$-valent Cayley graphs of order at most $n$. We show that $\log(CAY_d(n))\inΘ(d(\log n)^2)$, as $n\to\infty$. We also obtain some stronger results in the case $d=3$.

Enumeration of fixed points of an involution on $β(1,0)$-trees

$β(1,0)$-trees provide a convenient description of rooted non-separable planar maps. The involution $h$ on $β(1,0)$-trees was introduced to prove a complicated equidistribution result on a class of pattern-avoiding permutations. In this paper, we describe and enumerate fixed points of the involution $h$. Intriguingly, the fixed points are equinumerous with the fixed points under taking the dual map on rooted non-separable planar maps, even though the fixed points do not go to each other under the know (natural) bijection between the trees and the maps.

Regular polygonal complexes in euclidean 3-space are discrete polyhedra-like structures with finite or infinite polygons as faces and with finite graphs as vertex-figures, such that their symmetry groups are transitive on the flags. The present paper and its predecessor describe a complete classification of regular polygonal complexes in 3-space. In Part I we established basic structural results for the symmetry groups, discussed operations on their generators, characterized the complexes with face mirrors as the 2-skeletons of the regular 4-apeirotopes in 3-space, and fully enumerated the simply flag-transitive complexes with mirror vector (1,2). In this paper, we complete the enumeration of all regular polygonal complexes and in particular describe the simply flag-transitive complexes for the remaining mirror vectors. It is found that, up to similarity, there are precisely 25 regular polygonal complexes which are not regular polyhedra, namely 21 simply flag-transitive complexes and 4 complexes which are 2-skeletons of regular 4-apeirotopes.

This paper proves explicit formulas for the number of dissections of a convex regular polygon modulo the action of the cyclic and dihedral groups. The formulas are obtained by making use of the Cauchy-Frobenius Lemma as well as bijections between rotationally symmetric dissections and simpler classes of dissections. A number of special cases of these formulas are studied. Consequently, some known enumerations are recovered and several new ones are provided.

Cut ideals, introduced by Sturmfels and Sullivant, are used in phylogenetics and algebraic statistics. We study the minimal free resolutions of cut ideals of tree graphs. By employing basic methods from topological combinatorics, we obtain upper bounds for the Betti numbers of this type of ideals. These take the form of simple formulas on the number of vertices, which arise from the enumeration of induced subgraphs of certain incomparability graphs associated to the edge sets of trees.
On the sum of the Voronoi polytope of a lattice with a zonotope
A parallelotope $P$ is a polytope that admits a facet-to-facet tiling of space by translation copies of $P$ along a lattice. The Voronoi cell $P_V(L)$ of a lattice $L$ is an example of a parallelotope. A parallelotope can be uniquely decomposed as the Minkowski sum of a zone closed parallelotope $P$ and a zonotope $Z(U)$, where $U$ is the set of vectors used to generate the zonotope. In this paper we consider the related question: When is the Minkowski sum of a general parallelotope and a zonotope $P+Z(U)$ a parallelotope? We give two necessary conditions and show that the vectors $U$ have to be free. Given a set $U$ of free vectors, we give several methods for checking if $P + Z(U)$ is a parallelotope. Using this we classify such zonotopes for some highly symmetric lattices.
In the case of the root lattice $\mathsf{E}_6$, it is possible to give a more geometric description of the admissible sets of vectors $U$. We found that the set of admissible vectors, called free vectors, is described by the well-known configuration of $27$ lines in a cubic. Based on a detailed study of the geometry of $P_V(\mathsf{e}_6)$, we give a simple characterization of the configurations of vectors $U$ such that $P_V(\mathsf{E}_6) + Z(U)$ is a parallelotope. The enumeration yields $10$ maximal families of vectors, which are presented by their description as regular matroids.
