Multiple Clausen values and deformed Apéry-like series
With generalized central binomial coefficients $ \binom{2x}{x}:=\frac{Γ(2x+1)}{[Γ(x+1)]^2}$ defined through Euler's gamma function, we represent deformed Apéry-like series \[ \mathscr A_{s,n}:=\sum_{k=1}^\infty\left.\!\frac{\partial^n}{\partial x^n}\frac{1}{x^s\binom{2x}{x}}\right|_{x=k} \] by multiple Clausen values (MCVs), which belong to a special class of cyclotomic multiple zeta values (CMZVs) at level $3$. For example, exploiting provable algebraic relations among MCVs, we show that \[\mathscr A_{1,5}=-\frac{9[495L(χ_{-3},6)-30π^{2}L(χ_{-3},4)-2π^{4}L(χ_{-3},2)]}{4}\]and\[\mathscr A_{4,4}=\frac{352ζ_{5,3}}{15}+\frac{752537π^{8}}{10206000},\]where $ L(χ_{-3},s):=\sum_{n=0}^\infty\left[(3n+1)^{-s}-(3n+2)^{-s}\right]$ and $ ζ_{5,3}:=\sum_{m=1}^\infty\sum_{n=1}^{m-1}m^{-5}n^{-3}$.
Repeated principal indefinite summation
Under suitable asymptotic and convexity conditions on a function $g\colon\mathbb{R}_+\to\mathbb{R}$, the solution to $Δf=g$, where $Δ$ is the forward difference operator, is unique up to an additive constant and is called the principal indefinite sum of $g$, generalizing the additive form of Bohr-Mollerup's theorem. We consider the map $Σ$, which assigns to each admissible function $g$ its principal indefinite sum that vanishes at $1$, and we naturally explore its iterates, which produce repeated principal indefinite sums, in analogy with the concept of repeated indefinite integrals. Explicit formulas and convergence results are established, highlighting connections with classical combinatorial and special functions, including the multiple gamma functions, for which we also provide integral representations.
On the properties of alternating invariant functions
Functions satisfying the functional equation \begin{align*} \sum_{r=0}^{n-1} (-1)^r f(x+ry, ny) = f(x,y), \quad \text{for any positive odd integer $n$}, \end{align*} are named the alternating invariant functions. Examples of such functions include Euler polynomials, alternating Hurwitz zeta functions and their associated Gamma functions. In this paper, we systematically investigate the fundamental properties of alternating invariant functions. We prove that the set of such functions is closed under translation, reflection, and differentiation. In addition, we define a convolution operation on alternating invariant functions and derive explicit convolution formulas for Euler polynomials and alternating Hurwitz zeta functions, respectively. Furthermore, using distributional relations, we construct new examples of alternating invariant functions, including suitable combinations of trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions, among others.
An integral representation of Catalan numbers using the Féaux formula
We present an integral expression of the Catalan numbers, based on Féaux' integral representation of $\log\left[Γ(x)\right]$, $Γ$ being the usual Gamma function. The obtained formula may be the starting point of the derivation of new relations involving central binomial coefficients or Catalan numbers.
An integral representation of Catalan numbers using Malmstén's formula
In this article, we propose an integral expression of the Catalan numbers, based on Malmstén's definite-integral representation of $\ln\left[Γ(x)\right]$, $Γ$ being the usual Gamma function. The obtained expression is likely to yield new summations involving Catalan numbers or central binomial coefficients.
On an upper bound for central binomial coefficients and Catalan numbers
Recently, Agievich proposed an interesting upper bound on binomial coefficients in the de Moivre-Laplace form. In this article, we show that the latter bound, in the specific case of a central binomial coefficient, is larger than the one proposed by Sasvari and obtained using the Binet formula for the Gamma function. In addition, we provide the expression of the next-order bound and apply it to Catalan numbers $C_n$. The bounds are very close to the exact value, the difference decreasing with $n$ and with the order of the upper bound.
A note on a generalized double series
By employing contour integration the derivation of a generalized double finite series involving the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function is used to derive closed form formulae in terms of special functions. We use this procedure to find special cases of the summation and product formulae in terms of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function, trigonometric functions and the gamma function.

The quantum walk is a quantum counterpart of the classical random walk. On the other hand, the absolute zeta function can be considered as a zeta function over F_1. This paper presents a connection between the quantum walk and the absolute zeta function. First we deal with a zeta function determined by a time evolution matrix of the Grover walk on a graph. The Grover walk is a typical model of the quantum walk. Then we prove that the zeta function given by the quantum walk is an absolute automorphic form of weight depending on the number of edges of the graph. Furthermore we consider an absolute zeta function for the zeta function based on a quantum walk. As an example, we compute an absolute zeta function for the cycle graph and show that it is expressed as the multiple gamma function of order 2.
On a problem of Mező and its generalizations to three classes of rational zeta series
We evaluate in closed form three special classes of alternating zeta series with one and two additional parameters. Two classes are expressed as linear combinations of polylogarithms while for the third class we prove an expression involving the incomplete gamma function and the exponential integral. We also present some related series that can be deduced from the main results as well as some series with Fibonacci and Lucas numbers as coefficients. Particular cases of the series presented here will be rediscoveries of identities established by Zhang and Williams, Choi and Srivastava, and Orr, among others. We will also rediscover a series identity published by Mező in 2015 as a problem proposal in the American Mathematical Monthly.
$q$-Rational and $q$-Real Binomial Coefficients
We consider $q$-binomial coefficients built from the $q$-rational and $q$-real numbers defined by Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko in terms of continued fractions. We establish versions of both the $q$-Pascal identity and the $q$-binomial theorem in this setting. These results are then used to find more identities satisfied by the $q$-analogues of Morier-Genoud and Ovsienko, including a Chu--Vandermonde identity and $q$-Gamma function identities.
Special Function Representation Of Dickson Polynomials
Generating functions and functional equations of Dickson polynomials of the first and second kind are derived and continued analytically. These formulae are expressed in terms of the incomplete gamma function over complex variables of the parameters involved. Special cases are evaluated in terms of composite incomplete gamma functions and mathematical constants.
Stirling's approximation and a hidden link between two of Ramanujan's approximations
A conjectured relation between Ramanujan's asymptotic approximations to the exponential function and the exponential integral is established. The proof involves Stirling numbers, second-order Eulerian numbers, modifications of both of these, and Stirling's approximation to the gamma function. Our work provides new information about the coefficients in Stirling's approximation and their connection to Ramanujan's approximation coefficients. A more analytic second proof of the main result is also included in an appendix.

In its additive version, Bohr-Mollerup's remarkable theorem states that the unique (up to an additive constant) convex solution $f(x)$ to the equation $Δf(x)=\ln x$ on the open half-line $(0,\infty)$ is the log-gamma function $f(x)=\lnΓ(x)$, where $Δ$ denotes the classical difference operator and $Γ(x)$ denotes the Euler gamma function. In a recently published open access book, the authors provided and illustrated a far-reaching generalization of Bohr-Mollerup's theorem by considering the functional equation $Δf(x)=g(x)$, where $g$ can be chosen from a wide and rich class of functions that have convexity or concavity properties of any order. They also showed that the solutions $f(x)$ arising from this generalization satisfy counterparts of many properties of the log-gamma function (or equivalently, the gamma function), including analogues of Bohr-Mollerup's theorem itself, Burnside's formula, Euler's infinite product, Euler's reflection formula, Gauss' limit, Gauss' multiplication formula, Gautschi's inequality, Legendre's duplication formula, Raabe's formula, Stirling's formula, Wallis's product formula, Weierstrass' infinite product, and Wendel's inequality for the gamma function. In this paper, we review the main results of this new and intriguing theory and provide an illustrative application.
On Binomial coefficients of real arguments
As is well-known, a generalization of the classical concept of the factorial $n!$ for a real number $x\in {\mathbb R}$ is the value of Euler's gamma function $Γ(1+x)$. In this connection, the notion of a binomial coefficient naturally arose for admissible values of the real arguments.
By elementary means, it is proved a number of properties of binomial coefficients $\binom{r}α$ of real arguments $r,\,α\in {\mathbb R}$ such as analogs of unimodality, symmetry, Pascal's triangle, etc. for classical binomial coefficients. The asymptotic behavior of such generalized binomial coefficients of a special form is established.

A combinatorial proof of the Gaussian product inequality (GPI) is given under the assumption that each component of a centered Gaussian random vector $\boldsymbol{X} = (X_1, \ldots, X_d)$ of arbitrary length can be written as a linear combination, with coefficients of identical sign, of the components of a standard Gaussian random vector. This condition on $\boldsymbol{X}$ is shown to be strictly weaker than the assumption that the density of the random vector $(|X_1|, \ldots, |X_d|)$ is multivariate totally positive of order $2$, abbreviated MTP${}_2$, for which the GPI is already known to hold. Under this condition, the paper highlights a new link between the GPI and the monotonicity of a certain ratio of gamma functions.

For a word $π$ and integer $i$, we define $L^i(π)$ to be the length of the longest subsequence of the form $i(i+1)\cdots j$, and we let $L(π):=\max_i L^i(π)$. In this paper we estimate the expected values of $L^1(π)$ and $L(π)$ when $π$ is chosen uniformly at random from all words which use each of the first $n$ integers exactly $m$ times. We show that $\mathbb{E}[L^1(π)]\sim m$ if $n$ is sufficiently larger in terms of $m$ as $m$ tends towards infinity, confirming a conjecture of Diaconis, Graham, He, and Spiro. We also show that $\mathbb{E}[L(π)]$ is asymptotic to the inverse gamma function $Γ^{-1}(n)$ if $n$ is sufficiently large in terms of $m$ as $m$ tends towards infinity.

In the paper, the authors establish Maclaurin's series expansions and series identities for positive integer powers of the inverse sine function, for positive integer powers of the inverse hyperbolic sine function, for the composite of incomplete gamma functions with the inverse hyperbolic sine function, for positive integer powers of the inverse tangent function, and for positive integer powers of the inverse hyperbolic tangent function, in terms of the first kind Stirling numbers and binomial coefficients, apply the newly established Maclaurin's series expansion for positive integer powers of the inverse sine function to derive a closed-form formula for specific values of partial Bell polynomials and to derive a series representation of the generalized logsine function, and deduce several combinatorial identities involving the first kind Stirling numbers. Some of these results simplify and unify some known ones. All of these newly established Maclaurin's series expansions of positive integer powers of the inverse (hyperbolic) sine and tangent functions can be used to derive infinite series representations of the circular constant Pi and of positive integer powers of Pi.
Derangements and the $p$-adic incomplete gamma function
We introduce a $p$-adic analogue of the incomplete gamma function. We also introduce quantities ($m$-values) associated to a function on natural numbers and prove a new characterization of $p$-adic continuity for functions with $p$-integral $m$-values. Combinatorial interpretations for the integral values of the incomplete gamma function and functions with $m$-values zero or one are obtained, which show that these functions count derangements in generalized symmetric groups and permutations with restricted cycle lengths.

In 1922, Harald Bohr and Johannes Mollerup established a remarkable characterization of the Euler gamma function using its log-convexity property. A decade later, Emil Artin investigated this result and used it to derive the basic properties of the gamma function using elementary methods of the calculus. Bohr-Mollerup's theorem was then adopted by Nicolas Bourbaki as the starting point for his exposition of the gamma function.
This open access book develops a far-reaching generalization of Bohr-Mollerup's theorem to higher order convex functions, along lines initiated by Wolfgang Krull, Roger Webster, and some others but going considerably further than past work. In particular, this generalization shows using elementary techniques that a very rich spectrum of functions satisfy analogues of several classical properties of the gamma function, including Bohr-Mollerup's theorem itself, Euler's reflection formula, Gauss' multiplication theorem, Stirling's formula, and Weierstrass' canonical factorization.
The scope of the theory developed in this work is illustrated through various examples, ranging from the gamma function itself and its variants and generalizations (q-gamma, polygamma, multiple gamma functions) to important special functions such as the Hurwitz zeta function and the generalized Stieltjes constants.
This volume is also an opportunity to honor the 100th anniversary of Bohr-Mollerup's theorem and to spark the interest of a large number of researchers in this beautiful theory.

Recently the first author proved a congruence proposed in 2006 by Adamchuk: $\sum_{k=1}^{\lfloor\frac{2p}{3}\rfloor}\binom{2k}{k}\equiv 0\pmod{p^2}$ for any prime $p=1 \pmod{3}$. In this paper, we provide more examples (with proofs) of congruences of the same kind $$\sum_{k=1}^{\lfloor\frac{ap}{r}\rfloor}\binom{2k}{k}x^k \pmod{p^2}$$ where $p$ is a prime such that $p\equiv 1 \pmod{r}$, $a/r$ is a fraction in $(1/2,1)$ and $x$ is a $p$-adic integer. The key ingredients are the $p$-adic Gamma functions $Γ_p$ and a special class of computer-discovered hypergeometric identities.
