Let $D$ be a strongly connected balanced bipartite directed graph of order $2a\geq 10$ other than a directed cycle. Let $x,y$ be distinct vertices in $D$. $\{x,y\}$ dominates a vertex $z$ if $x\rightarrow z$ and $y\rightarrow z$; in this case, we call the pair $\{x,y\}$ dominating. In this paper we prove:
If $ max\{d(x), d(y)\}\geq 2a-2$ for every dominating pair of vertices $\{x,y\}$, then $D$ contains cycles of all lengths $2,4, \ldots , 2a-2$ or $D$ is isomorphic to a certain digraph of order ten which we specify.

We prove that certain classes of metrically homogeneous graphs omitting triangles of odd short perimeter as well as triangles of long perimeter have the extension property for partial automorphisms and we describe their Ramsey expansions.
Triangle-free graphs of tree-width t are ceil((t + 3)/2)-colorable
We prove that every triangle-free graph of tree-width t has chromatic number at most ceil((t + 3)/2), and demonstrate that this bound is tight. The argument also establishes a connection between coloring graphs of tree-width t and on-line coloring of graphs of path-width t.

The forgotten topological index or F-index of a graph is defined as the sum of cubes of the degree of all the vertices of the graph. In this paper we study the F-index of four operations related to the lexicographic product on graphs which were introduced by Sarala et al. [D. Sarala, H. Deng, S.K. Ayyaswamya and S. Balachandrana, The Zagreb indices of graphs based on four new operations related to the lexicographic product, \textit{Applied Mathematics and Computation}, 309 (2017) 156--169.].
Classical properties of algebras using a new graph association
We study the relation between algebraic structures and Graph Theory. We have defined five different weighted digraphs associated to a finite dimensional algebra over a field in order to tackle important properties of the associated algebras, mainly the nilpotency and solvability in the case of Leibniz algebras.

Let $G$ be a simple strongly connected weighted directed graph. Let $\mathcal{G}$ denote the spanning tree graph of $G$. That is, the vertices of $\mathcal{G}$ consist of the directed rooted spanning trees on $G$, and the edges of $\mathcal{G}$ consist of pairs of trees $(t_i, t_j)$ such that $t_j$ can be obtained from $t_i$ by adding the edge from the root of $t_i$ to the root of $t_j$ and deleting the outgoing edge from the root of $t_j$. A formula for the ratio of the sum of the weights of the directed rooted spanning trees on $\mathcal{G}$ to the sum of the weights of the directed rooted spanning trees on $G$ was recently given by Biane and Chapuy. We provide an alternative proof of this formula, which is both simple and combinatorial. The proof involves working with the stochastic zeta function of an irreducible Markov chain. By generalizing the stochastic zeta function we also recover the general result of Biane and Chapuy which gives a formula for the determinant of the Schrödinger matrix on $\mathcal{G}$ corresponding to a given Schrödinger matrix on $G$, in terms of the minors of the latter matrix.

We present here random distributions on $(D+1)$-edge-colored, bipartite graphs with a fixed number of vertices $2p$. These graphs are dual to $D$-dimensional orientable colored complexes. We investigate the behavior of quantities related to those random graphs, such as their number of connected components or the number of vertices of their dual complexes, as $p \to \infty$. The techniques involved in the study of these quantities also yield a Central Limit Theorem for the genus of a uniform map of order $p$, as $p \to \infty$.

We prove that every triangle-free planar graph of order $n$ and size $m$ has an induced linear forest with at least $\frac{9n - 2m}{11}$ vertices, and thus at least $\frac{5n + 8}{11}$ vertices. Furthermore, we show that there are triangle-free planar graphs on $n$ vertices whose largest induced linear forest has order $\lceil \frac{n}{2} \rceil + 1$.

We introduce two monads on the category of graphs and prove that their Eilenberg-Moore categories are isomorphic to the category of perfect matchings and the category of partial Steiner triple systems, respectively. As a simple application of these results, we describe the product in the categories of perfect matchings and partial Steiner triple systems.
Splines over integer quotient rings
Given a graph with edges labeled by elements in $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$, a generalized spline is a labeling of each vertex by an integer $\mod m$ such that the labels of adjacent vertices agree modulo the label associated to the edge connecting them. These generalize the classical splines that arise in analysis as well as in a construction of equivariant cohomology often referred to as GKM-theory. We give an algorithm to produce minimum generating sets for the $\mathbb{Z}$-module of splines on connected graphs over $\mathbb{Z}/m \mathbb{Z}$. As an application, we give a quick heuristic to determine the minimum number of generators of the module of splines over $\mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$. We also completely determine the ring of splines over $\mathbb{Z}/p^k\mathbb{Z}$ by providing explicit multiplication tables with respect to the elements of our minimum generating set. Our final result extends some of these results to splines over $\mathbb{Z}$.

In this paper we study irreducible representations and symbolic Rees algebras of monomial ideals. Then we examine edge ideals associated to vertex-weighted oriented graphs. These are digraphs having no oriented cycles of length two with weights on the vertices. For a monomial ideal with no embedded primes we classify the normality of its symbolic Rees algebra in terms of its primary components. If the primary components of a monomial ideal are normal, we present a simple procedure to compute its symbolic Rees algebra using Hilbert bases, and give necessary and sufficient conditions for the equality between its ordinary and symbolic powers. We give an effective characterization of the Cohen--Macaulay vertex-weighted oriented forests. For edge ideals of transitive weighted oriented graphs we show that Alexander duality holds. It is shown that edge ideals of weighted acyclic tournaments are Cohen--Macaulay and satisfy Alexander duality

In the paper [I. Gutman, N. Trinajstić, Chem. Phys. Lett. 17 (1972), 535], it was shown that total $π$-electron energy ($E$) of a molecule $M$ depends on the quantity $\sum_{v\in V(G)}d_{v}^{2}$ (nowadays known as the "first Zagreb index"), where $G$ is the graph corresponding to $M$, $V(G)$ is the vertex set of $G$ and $d_{v}$ is degree of the vertex $v$. In the same paper, the graph invariant $\sum_{v\in V(G)}d_{v}τ_{v}$ (where $τ_{v}$ is the connection number of $v$, that is the number of vertices at distance 2 from $v$) was also proved to influence $E$, but this invariant was never restudied explicitly. We call it "modified first Zagreb connection index" and denote it by $ZC_{1}^{*}$. In this paper, we characterize the extremal elements with respect to the graph invariant $ZC_{1}^{*}$ among the collection of all $n$-vertex chemical trees.
On a Dehn-Sommerville functional for simplicial complexes
Assume G is a finite abstract simplicial complex with f-vector (v0,v1, ...), and generating function f(x) = sum(k=1 v(k-1) x^k = v0 x + v1 x^2+ v2 x^3 + ..., the Euler characteristic of G can be written as chi(G)=f(0)-f(-1). We study here the functional f1'(0)-f1'(-1), where f1' is the derivative of the generating function f1 of G1. The Barycentric refinement G1 of G is the Whitney complex of the finite simple graph for which the faces of G are the vertices and where two faces are connected if one is a subset of the other. Let L is the connection Laplacian of G, which is L=1+A, where A is the adjacency matrix of the connection graph G', which has the same vertex set than G1 but where two faces are connected they intersect. We have f1'(0)=tr(L) and for the Green function g L^(-1) also f1'(-1)=tr(g) so that eta1(G) = f1'(0)-f1'(-1) is equal to eta(G)=tr(L-L^(-1). The established formula tr(g)=f1'(-1) for the generating function of G1 complements the determinant expression det(L)=det(g)=zeta(-1) for the Bowen-Lanford zeta function zeta(z)=1/det(1-z A) of the connection graph G' of G. We also establish a Gauss-Bonnet formula eta1(G) = sum(x in V(G1) chi(S(x)), where S(x) is the unit sphere of x the graph generated by all vertices in G1 directly connected to x. Finally, we point out that the functional eta0(G) = sum(x in V(G) chi(S(x)) on graphs takes arbitrary small and arbitrary large values on every homotopy type of graphs.
Vertex transitive graphs $G$ with $χ_D(G) > χ(G)$ and small automorphism group

For a graph $G$ and a positive integer $k$, a vertex labelling $f:V(G)\to\{1,2\ldots,k\}$ is said to be $k$-distinguishing if no non-trivial automorphism of $G$ preserves the sets $f^{-1}(i)$ for each $i\in\{1,\ldots,k\}$. The distinguishing chromatic number of a graph $G$, denoted $χ_D(G)$, is defined as the minimum $k$ such that there is a $k$-distinguishing labelling of $V(G)$ which is also a proper coloring of the vertices of $G$. In this paper, we prove the following theorem: Given $k\in\mathbb{N}$, there exists an infinite sequence of vertex-transitive graphs $G_{i}=(V_i,E_i)$ such that $χ_D(G_i)>χ(G_i)>k$ and $|\mathrm{Aut}(G_i)|=O_k(|V_i|)$, where $\mathrm{Aut}(G_i)$ denotes the full automorphism group of $G_i$. In particular, this answers a problem raised in the paper $χ_D(G)$, $|\mathrm{Aut}(G)|$ and a variant of the Motion lemma.
Secret sharing on large girth graphs

We investigate graph based secret sharing schemes and its information ratio, also called complexity, measuring the maximal amount of information the vertices has to store. It was conjectured that in large girth graphs, where the interaction between far away nodes is restricted to a single path, this ratio is bounded. This conjecture was supported by several result, most notably by a result of Csirmaz and Ligeti saying that the complexity of graphs with girth at least six and no neighboring high degree vertices is strictly below 2. In this paper we refute the above conjecture. First, a family of $d$-regular graphs is defined iteratively such that the complexity of these graphs is the largest possible $(d+1)/2$ allowed by Stinson's bound. This part extends earlier results of van Dijk and Blundo et al, and uses the so-called entropy method. Second, using combinatorial arguments, we show that this family contains graphs with arbitrary large girth. In particular, we obtain the following purely combinatorial result, which might be interesting on its own: there are $d$-regular graphs with arbitrary large girth such that any fractional edge-cover by stars (or by complete multipartite graphs) must cover some vertex $(d+1)/2$ times.
The complexity of recognizing minimally tough graphs

A graph is called $t$-tough if the removal of any vertex set $S$ that disconnects the graph leaves at most $|S|/t$ components. The toughness of a graph is the largest $t$ for which the graph is $t$-tough. A graph is minimally $t$-tough if the toughness of the graph is $t$ and the deletion of any edge from the graph decreases the toughness. The complexity class DP is the set of all languages that can be expressed as the intersection of a language in NP and a language in coNP. In this paper, we prove that recognizing minimally $t$-tough graphs is DP-complete for any positive rational number $t$. We introduce a new notion called weighted toughness, which has a key role in our proof.
Tutte Polynomials of Symmetric Hyperplane Arrangements
Originally in 1954 the Tutte polynomial was a bivariate polynomial associated to a graph in order to enumerate the colorings of this graph and of its dual graph at the same time. However the Tutte polynomial reveals more of the internal structure of a graph, and contains even other specializations from other sciences like the Jones polynomial in Knot theory, the partition function of the Pott model in statistical physics, and the reliability polynomial in network theory. In this article, we study the Tutte polynomial associated to more general objects which are the arrangements of hyperplanes. Indeed determining the Tutte polynomial of a graph is equivalent to determining the Tutte polynomial of a special hyperplane arrangement called graphic arrangement. In 2007 Ardila computed the Tutte polynomials of the hyperplane arrangements associated to the classical Weyl groups, and the characteristic polynomials of the Catalan arrangements. The charateristic polynomial is also a specialization of the Tutte polynomial. In 2012 Seo computed the characteristic polynomials of the Shi threshold arrangements, and in 2017 Song computed the characteristic polynomials of the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements in the plane and in the space. We aim to bring a more general result by introducing a wider class of hyperplane arrangements which is the set of symmetric hyperplane arrangements. We compute the Tutte polynomial of a symmetric hyperplane arrangement, and, as examples of application, we deduce the Tutte polynomials of the Catalan, the Shi threshold, and the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements.

A group of mobile agents is given a task to explore an edge-weighted graph $G$, i.e., every vertex of $G$ has to be visited by at least one agent. There is no centralized unit to coordinate their actions, but they can freely communicate with each other. The goal is to construct a deterministic strategy which allows agents to complete their task optimally. In this paper we are interested in a cost-optimal strategy, where the cost is understood as the total distance traversed by agents coupled with the cost of invoking them. Two graph classes are analyzed, rings and trees, in the off-line and on-line setting, i.e., when a structure of a graph is known and not known to agents in advance. We present algorithms that compute the optimal solutions for a given ring and tree of order $n$, in $O(n)$ time units. For rings in the on-line setting, we give the $2$-competitive algorithm and prove the lower bound of $3/2$ for the competitive ratio for any on-line strategy. For every strategy for trees in the on-line setting, we prove the competitive ratio to be no less than $2$, which can be achieved by the $DFS$ algorithm.
Asymptotics of the spectral radius for directed Chung-Lu random graphs with community structure
The spectral radius of the adjacency matrix can impact both algorithmic efficiency as well as the stability of solutions to an underlying dynamical process. Although much research has considered the distribution of the spectral radius for undirected random graph models, as symmetric adjacency matrices are amenable to spectral analysis, very little work has focused on directed graphs. Consequently, we provide novel concentration results for the spectral radius of the directed Chung-Lu random graph model. We emphasize that our concentration results are applicable both asymptotically and to networks of finite size. Subsequently, we extend our concentration results to a generalization of the directed Chung-Lu model that allows for community structure.

Let $t_{i,j}$ be the coefficient of $x^iy^j$ in the Tutte polynomial $T(G;x,y)$ of a connected bridgeless and loopless graph $G$ with order $n$ and size $m$. It is trivial that $t_{0,m-n+1}=1$ and $t_{n-1,0}=1$. In this paper, we obtain expressions of another eight extreme coefficients $t_{i,j}$'s with $(i,j)=(0,m-n)$,$(0,m-n-1)$,$(n-2,0)$,$(n-3,0)$,$(1,m-n)$,$(1,m-n-1)$,$(n-2,1)$ and $(n-3,1)$ in terms of small substructures of $G$. Among them, the former four can be obtained by using coefficients of the highest, second highest and third highest terms of chromatic or flow polynomials, and vice versa. We also discuss their duality property and their specializations to extreme coefficients of the Jones polynomial.
