On the signless Laplacian spectral radius of $C_{4}$-free $k$-cyclic graphs
A $k$-cyclic graph is a connected graph of order $n$ and size $n+k-1$. In this paper, we determine the maximal signless Laplacian spectral radius and the corresponding extremal graph among all $C_{4}$-free $k$-cyclic graphs of order $n$. Furthermore, we determine the first three unicyclic, and bicyclic, $C_{4}$-free graphs whose spectral radius of the signless Laplacian is maximal. Similar results are obtained for the (combinatorial) Laplacian.
Linear Residuals and Gallai-Simplicial Complexes
In this paper, we give a new algebraic criterion for the {\em shellability} of (non-pure) simplicial complex $Δ$ over $[n]$, shellable in the sense of Björner and Wachs \cite{BW}. We show that the spanning simplicial complex of doubly uni-cyclic graph is non-pure shellable. Moreover, we introduce the concept of Gallai-simplicial complex $Δ_Γ(G)$ of a finite simple graph $G$. We applied the obtained criterion to discuss the shellability of Gallai simplicial complexes associated to various classes of graphs..

Enumerating Cayley (di-)graphs on dihedral groups
Published • View Publication • BIB
Let $p$ be an odd prime, and $D_{2p}=\langle τ,σ\mid τ^p=σ^2=e,στσ=τ^{-1}\rangle$ the dihedral group of order $2p$. In this paper, we provide the number of (connected) Cayley (di-)graphs on $D_{2p}$ up to isomorphism by using the Pólya enumeration theorem. In the process, we also enumerate (connected) Cayley digraphs on $D_{2p}$ of out-degree $k$ up to isomorphism for each $k$.

Hamiltonian cycles for the square of the augmentation graphs and Gray codes for restricted permutations and ascent sequences
In this paper, we construct a listing for the vertices of the augmentation graph of given size, and as a consequence, we obtain a Hamiltonian cycle for the square of the augmentation graph of given size. As applications, we have a Gray code for the $132$-$312$ avoiding permutations of given length such that two successive permutations differ by at most $2$ adjacent transpositions. Also we obtain Gray codes of strong distance $2$ for the $001$ avoiding ascent sequences and the $010$ avoiding ascent sequences of given length.
Intersection Graphs of Rays and Grounded Segments
Published • View Publication • BIB
We consider several classes of intersection graphs of line segments in the plane and prove new equality and separation results between those classes. In particular, we show that: (1) intersection graphs of grounded segments and intersection graphs of downward rays form the same graph class, (2) not every intersection graph of rays is an intersection graph of downward rays, and (3) not every intersection graph of rays is an outer segment graph. The first result answers an open problem posed by Cabello and Jejčič. The third result confirms a conjecture by Cabello. We thereby completely elucidate the remaining open questions on the containment relations between these classes of segment graphs. We further characterize the complexity of the recognition problems for the classes of outer segment, grounded segment, and ray intersection graphs. We prove that these recognition problems are complete for the existential theory of the reals. This holds even if a 1-string realization is given as additional input.

Equiangular line systems and switching classes containing regular graphs
Published in Linear Algebra Appl. 536 (2018), pp. 31-51 • View Publication • BIB
We develop the theory of equiangular lines in Euclidean spaces. Our focus is on the question of when a Seidel matrix having precisely three distinct eigenvalues has a regular graph in its switching class. We make some progress towards an answer to this question by finding some necessary conditions and some sufficient conditions. Furthermore, we show that the cardinality of an equiangular line system in $18$ dimensional Euclidean space is at most $60$.

The Roller-Coaster Conjecture Revisited
Published • View Publication • BIB
A graph is well-covered if all its maximal independent sets are of the same cardinality (Plummer, 1970). If G is a well-covered graph, has at least two vertices, and G-v is well-covered for every vertex v, then G is a 1-well-covered graph (Staples, 1975). We call G a λ-quasi-regularizable graph if λ |S| =< |N(S)| for every independent set S of G. The independence polynomial I(G;x) is the generating function of independent sets in a graph G (Gutman & Harary, 1983). The Roller-Coaster Conjecture (Michael & Travis, 2003), saying that for every permutation σ of the set {(α/2),...,α} there exists a well-covered graph G with independence number α such that the coefficients (s_{k}) of I(G;x) are chosen in accordance with σ, has been validated in (Cutler & Pebody, 2017). In this paper, we show that independence polynomials of λ-quasi-regularizable graphs are partially unimodal. More precisely, the coefficients of an upper part of I(G;x) are in non-increasing order. Based on this finding, we prove that the domain of the Roller- Coaster Conjecture can be shortened for well-covered graphs and 1-well-covered graphs.
Toric degenerations of Gr(2,n) and Gr(3,6) via plabic graphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
We establish an explicit bijection between the toric degenerations of the Grassmannian $\textrm{Gr}(2,n)$ arising from maximal cones in tropical Grassmannians and the ones coming from plabic graphs corresponding to $\textrm{Gr}(2,n)$. We show that a similar statement does not hold for $\textrm{Gr}(3,6)$.

Random Kneser graphs and hypergraphs
Published • View Publication • BIB
The Kneser graph $KG_{n,k}$ is the graph whose vertices are the $k$-element subsets of $[n],$ with two vertices adjacent if and only if the corresponding sets are disjoint. A famous result due to Lovász states that the chromatic number of $KG_{n,k}$ is equal to $n-2k+2$. In this paper we discuss the chromatic number of random Kneser graphs and hypergraphs. It was studied in two recent papers, one due to Kupavskii, who proposed the problem and studied the graph case, and the more recent one due to Alishahi and Hajiabolhassan. The authors of the latter paper had extended the result of Kupavskii to the case of general Kneser hypergraphs. Moreover, they have improved the bounds of Kupavskii in the graph case for many values of parameters. In the present paper we present a purely combinatorial approach to the problem based on blow-ups of graphs, which gives much better bounds on the chromatic number of random Kneser and Schrijver graphs and Kneser hypergraphs. This allows us to improve all known results on the topic. The most interesting improvements are obtained in the case of $r$-uniform Kneser hypergraphs with $r\ge 3$, where we managed to replace certain polynomial dependencies of the parameters by the logarithmic ones.

Abstract matrix-tree theorem
The classical matrix-tree theorem discovered by G.Kirchhoff in 1847 relates the principal minor of the nxn Laplace matrix to a particular sum of monomials of matrix elements indexed by directed trees with n vertices and a single sink. In this paper we consider a generalization of this statement: for any k \ge n we define a degree k polynomial det_{n,k} of matrix elements and prove that this polynomial applied to the Laplace matrix gives a sum of monomials indexed by acyclic graphs with n vertices and k edges.

In the present paper we find a simple algorithm for counting Jacobian group of the generalized Petersen graph GP(n,k). Also, we obtain a closed formula for the number of spanning trees of this graph in terms of Chebyshev polynomials.

Coloring problem of signed interval graphs
The chromatic number of signed graphs is defined recently. The coloring and clique problem of interval graphs has been studied and polynomial time algorithms are established. Here we consider these problems for signed interval graphs and prove that the coloring problem of signed interval graphs is NP-complete whereas their ordinary clique problem is in P. We also study the complexity of further related problems.
The isoperimetric number of the incidence graph of PG(n,q)
Published in Electronic Journal of Combinatorics 25.3 (2018), 3-20 • View Publication • BIB
Let $Γ_{n,q}$ be the point-hyperplane incidence graph of the projective space $\operatorname{PG}(n,q)$, where $n \ge 2$ is an integer and $q$ a prime power. We determine the order of magnitude of $1-i_V(Γ_{n,q})$, where $i_V(Γ_{n,q})$ is the vertex-isoperimetric number of $Γ_{n,q}$. We also obtain the exact values of $i_V(Γ_{2,q})$ and the related incidence-free number of $Γ_{2,q}$ for $q \le 16$.
Polychromatic colorings of complete graphs with respect to 1-,2-factors and Hamiltonian cycles
Published • View Publication • BIB
If G is a graph and H is a set of subgraphs of G, then an edge-coloring of G is called H-polychromatic if every graph from H gets all colors present in G on its edges. The H-polychromatic number of G, denoted poly_H(G), is the largest number of colors in an H-polychromatic coloring. In this paper, poly_H(G) is determined exactly when G is a complete graph and H is the family of all 1-factors. In addition poly_H(G) is found up to an additive constant term when G is a complete graph and H is the family of all 2-factors, or the family of all Hamiltonian cycles.

Equivalence of the Generalized Zhang-Zhang Polynomial and the Generalized Cube Polynomial
In this paper we study the resonance graphs of benzenoid systems, tubulenes, and fullerenes. The resonance graph reflects the interactions between the Kekul e structures of a molecule. The equivalence of the Zhang-Zhang polynomial (which counts Clar covers) of the molecular graph and the cube polynomial (which counts hypercubes) of its resonance graph is known for all three families of molecular graphs. Instead of considering only interactions between 6-cycles (Clar covers), we also consider 10-cycles, which contribute to the resonance energy of a molecule as well. Therefore, we generalize the concepts of the Zhang-Zhang polynomial and the cube polynomial and prove the equality of these two polynomials.

Classification of 2-extendable bipartite and cubic non-bipartite vertex-transitive graphs
In \cite{Chan95}, the authors classified the 2-extendable abelian Cayley graphs and posed the problem of characterizing all 2-extendable Cayley graphs. We first show that a connected bipartite Cayley (vertex-transitive) graph is 2-extendable if and only if it is not a cycle. It is known that a non-bipartite Cayley (vertex-transitive) graph is 2-extendable when it is of minimum degree at least five \cite{sun}. We next classify all 2-extendable cubic non-bipartite Cayley graphs and obtain that: a cubic non-bipartite Cayley graph with girth $g$ is 2-extendable if and only if $g\geq 4$ and it doesn't isomorphic to $Z_{4n}(1,4n-1,2n)$ or $Z_{4n+2}(2,4n,2n+1)$ with $n\geq 2$. Indeed, we prove a more stronger result that a cubic non-bipartite vertex-transitive graph with girth $g$ is 2-extendable if and only if $g\geq 4$ and it doesn't isomorphic to $Z_{4n}(1,4n-1,2n)$ or $Z_{4n+2}(2,4n,2n+1)$ with $n\geq 2$ or the Petersen graph.

Limits of random tree-like discrete structures
Published • View Publication • BIB
We study a model of random $\mathcal{R}$-enriched trees that is based on weights on the $\mathcal{R}$-structures and allows for a unified treatment of a large family of random discrete structures. We establish distributional limits describing local convergence around fixed and random points in this general context, limit theorems for component sizes when $\mathcal{R}$ is a composite class, and a Gromov--Hausdorff scaling limit of random metric spaces patched together from independently drawn metrics on the $\mathcal{R}$-structures. Our main applications treat a selection of examples encompassed by this model. We consider random outerplanar maps sampled according to arbitrary weights assigned to their inner faces, and classify in complete generality distributional limits for both the asymptotic local behaviour near the root-edge and near a uniformly at random drawn vertex. We consider random connected graphs drawn according to weights assigned to their blocks and establish a Benjamini--Schramm limit. We also apply our framework to recover in a probabilistic way a central limit theorem for the size of the largest $2$-connected component in random graphs from planar-like classes. We prove Benjamini--Schramm convergence of random $k$-dimensional trees and establish both scaling limits and local weak limits for random planar maps drawn according to Boltzmann-weights assigned to their $2$-connected components.
The $p$-spectral radius of the Laplacian
Published • View Publication • BIB
The $p$-spectral radius of a graph $G=(V,E)$ with adjacency matrix $A$ is defined as $λ^{(p)}(G)=\max \{x^TAx : \|x\|_p=1 \}$. This parameter shows remarkable connections with graph invariants, and has been used to generalize some extremal problems. In this work, we extend this approach to the Laplacian matrix $L$, and define the $p$-spectral radius of the Laplacian as $μ^{(p)}(G)=\max \{x^TLx : \|x\|_p=1 \}$. We show that $μ^{(p)}(G)$ relates to invariants such as maximum degree and size of a maximum cut. We also show properties of $μ^{(p)}(G)$ as a function of $p$, and a upper bound on $\max_{G \colon |V(G)|=n} μ^{(p)}(G)$ in terms of $n=|V|$ for $p\ge 2$, which is attained if $n$ is even.

Neighborhood reconstruction and cancellation of graphs
Published in Electron. J. Combin. 24 (2017), no. 2, Paper 2.8, 11 pp • View Publication • BIB
We connect two seemingly unrelated problems in graph theory. Any graph $G$ has an associated neighborhood multiset $\mathscr{N}(G)= \{N(x) \mid x\in V(G)\}$ whose elements are precisely the open vertex-neighborhoods of $G$. In general there exist non-isomorphic graphs $G$ and $H$ for which $\mathscr{N}(G)=\mathscr{N}(H)$. The neighborhood reconstruction problem asks the conditions under which $G$ is uniquely reconstructible from its neighborhood multiset, that is, the conditions under which $\mathscr{N}(G)=\mathscr{N}(H)$ implies $G\cong H$. Such a graph is said to be neighborhood-reconstructible. The cancellation problem for the direct product of graphs seeks the conditions under which $G\times K\cong H\times K$ implies $G\cong H$. Lovasz proved that this is indeed the case if $K$ is not bipartite. A second instance of the cancellation problem asks for conditions on $G$ that assure $G\times K\cong H\times K$ implies $G\cong H$ for any bipartite graph $K$ with $E(K)\neq \emptyset$. A graph $G$ for which this is true is called a cancellation graph. We prove that the neighborhood-reconstructible graphs are precisely the cancellation graphs. We also present some new results on cancellation graphs, which have corresponding implications for neighborhood reconstruction.
Strong resolving graphs: the realization and the characterization problems
Published • View Publication • BIB
The strong resolving graph $G_{SR}$ of a connected graph $G$ was introduced in [Discrete Applied Mathematics 155 (1) (2007) 356--364] as a tool to study the strong metric dimension of $G$. Basically, it was shown that the problem of finding the strong metric dimension of $G$ can be transformed to the problem of finding the vertex cover number of $G_{SR}$. Since then, several articles dealing with this subject have been published. In this paper, we survey the state of knowledge on the strong resolving graph and also derive some new results.
