For two elements $v$ and $w$ of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ with $v\leq w$ in Bruhat order, the Bruhat interval polytope $Q_{v,w}$ is the convex hull of the points $(z(1),\ldots,z(n))\in \mathbb{R}^n$ with $v\leq z\leq w$. It is known that the Bruhat interval polytope $Q_{v,w}$ is the moment map image of the Richardson variety $X^{v^{-1}}_{w^{-1}}$. We say that $Q_{v,w}$ is \emph{toric} if the corresponding Richardson variety $X_{w^{-1}}^{v^{-1}}$ is a toric variety. We show that when $Q_{v,w}$ is toric, its combinatorial type is determined by the poset structure of the Bruhat interval $[v,w]$ while this is not true unless $Q_{v,w}$ is toric. We are concerned with the problem of when $Q_{v,w}$ is (combinatorially equivalent to) a cube because $Q_{v,w}$ is a cube if and only if $X_{w^{-1}}^{v^{-1}}$ is a smooth toric variety. We show that a Bruhat interval polytope $Q_{v,w}$ is a cube if and only if $Q_{v,w}$ is toric and the Bruhat interval $[v,w]$ is a Boolean algebra. We also give several sufficient conditions on $v$ and $w$ for $Q_{v,w}$ to be a cube.
Weak generalized lifting property, Bruhat intervals and Coxeter matroids
We provide a weaker version of the generalized lifting property which holds in complete generality for all finite Coxeter groups, and we use it to show that every parabolic Bruhat interval of a finite Coxeter group is a Coxeter matroid. We also describe some combinatorial properties of the associated polytopes.
Cohomology of moduli spaces of Del Pezzo surfaces
We compute the rational Betti cohomology groups of the coarse moduli spaces of geometrically marked Del Pezzo surfaces of degree three and four as representations of the Weyl groups of the corresponding root systems. The proof uses a blend of methods from point counting over finite fields and techniques from arrangement complements.

Flag-transitive block designs with prime replication number and almost simple groups
In this article, we study $2$-designs with prime replication number admitting a flag-transitive automorphism group. The automorphism groups of these designs are point-primitive of almost simple or affine type. We determine $2$-designs with prime replication number admitting an almost simple automorphism group.
Transpositional sequences and multigraphs
When ${\bf t} := \langle t_1,t_2,\ldots,t_k\rangle$ is a sequence of transpositions on the finite set $n:=\{0,1,\ldots,n-1\}$, then $\bigcirc{\bf t}:= t_1\circ t_2\circ\cdots\circ t_k$ denotes the compositional product of the sequence. Our paper treats the set ${\rm Prod}({\bf t})$ of all $\bigcirc{\bf s}$, where ${\bf s}$ is a sequence obtained by rearranging the terms of ${\bf t}$. The paper characterizes the set of all transpositional sequences ${\bf t}$ for which ${\rm Prod}({\bf t})$ is the subset of a single congugacy class in the symmetric group ${\rm Sym}(n)$; we call such ${\bf t}$ {\it conjugacy invariant}. At the opposite extreme, the paper studies conditions under which ${\bf t}$ is {\it permutationally complete}, which is to say, those ${\bf t}$ for which either ${\rm Prod}({\bf t}) = {\rm Alt}(n)$ or ${\rm Prod}({\bf t}) = {\rm Sym}(n)\setminus{\rm Alt}(n)$.
About a counterexample on contractible transformations of graphs
In [A. V. Ivashchenko, Contractible transformations do not change the homology groups of graphs, Discrete Mathematics 126 (1) (1994) p 159,170], Ivashchenko started with the study of contractible graphs, he began with this because they have application to molecular spaces. But in a second paper [A. V. Ivashchenko, Some properties of contractible transformations on graphs, Discrete Mathematics 133 (1) (1994) p 139,145], he made several mistakes. We show in this paper that the results in that second paper are false or the proofs are wrong.
Equivariant K-theory classes of matrix orbit closures
The group $G = GL_r(k) \times (k^\times)^n$ acts on $\mathbf{A}^{r \times n}$, the space of $r$-by-$n$ matrices: $GL_r(k)$ acts by row operations and $(k^\times)^n$ scales columns. A matrix orbit closure is the Zariski closure of a point orbit for this action. We prove that the class of such an orbit closure in $G$ equivariant $K$-theory of $\mathbf{A}^{r \times n}$ is determined by the matroid of a generic point. We present two formulas for this class. The key to the proof is to show that matrix orbit closures have rational singularities.
Partial associativity and rough approximate groups
Suppose that a binary operation $\circ$ on a finite set $X$ is injective in each variable separately and also associative. It is easy to prove that $(X,\circ)$ must be a group. In this paper we examine what happens if one knows only that a positive proportion of the triples $(x,y,z)\in X^3$ satisfy the equation $x\circ(y\circ z)=(x\circ y)\circ z$. Other results in additive combinatorics would lead one to expect that there must be an underlying "group-like" structure that is responsible for the large number of associative triples. We prove that this is indeed the case: there must be a proportional-sized subset of the multiplication table that approximately agrees with part of the multiplication table of a metric group. We also present an example that suggests that our result cannot be strengthened to yield a dense subset that agrees with part of the multiplication table of a group.
The Hopf Monoid of Orbit Polytopes

Many families of combinatorial objects have a Hopf monoid structure. Aguiar and Ardila introduced the Hopf monoid of generalized permutahedra and showed that it contains various other notable combinatorial families as Hopf submonoids, including graphs, posets, and matroids. We introduce the Hopf monoid of orbit polytopes, which is generated by the generalized permutahedra that are invariant under the action of the symmetric group. We show that modulo normal equivalence, these polytopes are in bijection with integer compositions. We interpret the Hopf structure through this lens, and we show that applying the first Fock functor to this Hopf monoid gives a Hopf algebra of compositions. We describe the character group of the Hopf monoid of orbit polytopes in terms of noncommutative symmetric functions, and we give a combinatorial interpretation of the basic character and its polynomial invariant.
Sequences in Dihedral Groups with Distinct Partial Products
Given a subset $S$ of the non-identity elements of the dihedral group of order $2m$, is it possible to order the elements of $S$ so that the partial products are distinct? This is equivalent to the sequenceability of the group when $|S| = 2m-1$ and so it is known that the answer is yes in this case if and only if $m>4$. We show that the answer is yes when $|S| \leq 9$ and $m$ is an odd prime other than 3, when $|S| = 2m-2$ and $m$ is even or prime, and when $|S| = 2m-2$ for many instances of the problem when $m$ is odd and composite. We also consider the problem in the more general setting of arbitrary non-abelian groups and discuss connections between this work and the concept of strong sequenceability.

Given a $k$-vertex graph $H$ and an integer $n$, what are the $n$-vertex graphs with the maximum number of induced copies of $H$? This question is closely related to the inducibility problem introduced by Pippenger and Golumbic in 1975, which asks for the maximum possible fraction of $k$-vertex subsets of an $n$-vertex graph that induce a copy of $H$. Huang, Lee and the first author proved that for a random $k$-vertex graph $H$, almost surely the $n$-vertex graphs maximizing the number of induced copies of $H$ are the balanced iterated blow-ups of $H$. In this paper, we consider the case where the graph $H$ is obtained by deleting a small number of vertices from a random Cayley graph $\widetilde{H}$ of an abelian group. We prove that in this case, almost surely all $n$-vertex graphs maximizing the number of induced copies of $H$ are balanced iterated blow-ups of $\widetilde{H}$.
The number of fuzzy subgroups of a finite abelian group of order $p^{n}q^{m}$
The purpose of this paper is to determine the number of fuzzy subgroups of a finite abelian group of order $p^{n}q^{m}$. As an application of our main result, explicit formulas for the number of fuzzy subgroups of $\mathbb{Z}_{p}^{n}\times\mathbb{Z}_{q}^{m}$ and $\mathbb{Z}_{p^{n}}\times\mathbb{Z}_{q}^{m}$ are given.
On bipartite distance-regular Cayley graphs with diameter $3$
In this paper, we show that every bipartite distance-regular Cayley graph with diameter $3$ can be constructed on the semidirect product of a group and $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$, except possibly for one case.

For a fixed integer $k$, we consider the set of noncrossing partitions, where both the block sizes and the difference between adjacent elements in a block is $1\bmod k$. We show that these $k$-indivisible noncrossing partitions can be recovered in the setting of subgroups of the symmetric group generated by $(k+1)$-cycles, and that the poset of $k$-indivisible noncrossing partitions under refinement order has many beautiful enumerative and structural properties. We encounter $k$-parking functions and some special Cambrian lattices on the way, and show that a special class of lattice paths constitutes a nonnesting analogue.
Riesz bases of exponentials and multi-tiling in finite abelian groups
Motivated by the open problem of exhibiting a subset of Euclidean space which has no exponential Riesz basis, we focus on exponential Riesz bases in finite abelian groups. We point out that that every subset of a finite abelian group has such a basis, removing interest in the existence question in this context. We then define tightness quantities for subsets to measure the conditioning of Riesz bases; for normalized tightness quantities, a value of one corresponds to an orthogonal basis, and a value of infinity corresponds to nonexistence of a basis. As an application, we obtain new weak evidence in favor of the open problem by giving a sequence of subsets of finite abelian groups whose tightness quantities go to infinity in the limit. We also prove that the Cartesian product of a set with a finite abelian group has the same tightness quantities as the original set. Lastly, under an additional hypothesis, explicit bounds are given for tightness quantities in terms of a subset's lowest multi-tiling level by a subgroup and its geometric configuration. This establishes a quantitative link between discrete geometry and harmonic analysis in this setting.

We investigate groups whose Cayley graphs have poor\-ly connected subgraphs. We prove that a finitely generated group has bounded separation in the sense of Benjamini--Schramm--Timár if and only if it is virtually free. We then prove a gap theorem for connectivity of finitely presented groups, and prove that there is no comparable theorem for all finitely generated groups. Finally, we formulate a connectivity version of the conjecture that every group of type $F$ with no Baumslag-Solitar subgroup is hyperbolic, and prove it for groups with at most quadratic Dehn function.
Coarse geometry of the fire retaining property and group splittings
Given a non-decreasing function $f \colon \mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}$ we define a single player game on (infinite) connected graphs that we call fire retaining. If a graph $G$ admits a winning strategy for any initial configuration (initial fire) then we say that $G$ has the $f$-retaining property; in this case if $f$ is a polynomial of degree $d$, we say that $G$ has the polynomial retaining property of degree $d$.
We prove that having the polynomial retaining property of degree $d$ is a quasi-isometry invariant in the class of uniformly locally finite connected graphs. Henceforth, the retaining property defines a quasi-isometric invariant of finitely generated groups. We prove that if a finitely generated group $G$ splits over a quasi-isometrically embedded subgroup of polynomial growth of degree $d$, then $G$ has polynomial retaining property of degree $d-1$. Some connections to other work on quasi-isometry invariants of finitely generated groups are discussed and some questions are raised.

We consider the involutions known as "toggles," which have been used to give simplified proofs of the fundamental properties of the promotion and evacuation maps. We transfer these involutions so that they generate a group $\mathscr P_n$ that acts on the set $S_n$ of permutations of $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. After characterizing its orbits in terms of permutation skeletons, we apply the action in order to understand West's stack-sorting map. We obtain a very simple proof of a result that clarifies and extensively generalizes a theorem of Bouvel and Guibert and also generalizes a theorem of Bousquet-Mélou. We also settle a conjecture of Bouvel and Guibert. We prove a result related to the recently-introduced notion of postorder Wilf equivalence. Finally, we investigate an interesting connection among the action of $\mathscr P_n$ on $S_n$, the group structure of $S_n$, and the stack-sorting map.
