The projective coinvariant algebra, Young invariants and bigraded coordinate rings of Segre embeddings
This paper studies a flat degeneration P_n of the classical coinvariant algebra R_n, a bigraded Artinian Gorenstein algebra that arises from the coordinate ring of the Segre embedding of the n-fold self-product of the projective line. The Frobenius character of P_n is computed by a natural bigraded refinement of the classical Lusztig--Stanley formula for the character of the coinvariant algebra. Young invariants in P_n get related to coordinate rings of general Segre embeddings of products of projective spaces; their bigraded Hilbert polynomials get expressed in terms of major-descent generating functions of words in multisets. Relations to the diagonal coinvariant algebra, cohomological interpretations including quantum cohomology, and Garsia-Stanton-style bases are also explored.
The Grothendieck Group of the Variety of Spanning Line Configurations
We study the Grothendieck group of the variety $X_{n,k}$ of spanning line configurations introduced by Pawlowski--Rhoades [arXiv:1711.08301] as a geometric model for the generalized coinvariant algebra $R_{n,k}$. Our first result is a localization statement in $K$-theory for the complements of cell closures in smooth cellular varieties. Combining with the Fulton--Lascoux degeneracy loci formula, we prove that $K_0(X_{n,k})$ is canonically isomorphic to $R_{n,k}$, extending classical isomorphisms for the flag variety. We next identify the classes of the Pawlowski--Rhoades varieties with Grothendieck polynomials associated to words $w \in [k]^n$. Motivated by this identification, we develop models of classical and bumpless pipe dreams for words. We show that Schubert and Grothendieck polynomials of words are monomial-weight generating functions for these pipe dreams, extending the classical story from permutations to words and ordered set partitions.
Representation Theoretic Bases for the $Δ$-Springer Module
We give a descent monomial basis of $Δ$-Springer modules $R_{n,λ,s}$, first defined by Griffin. Our construction simultaneously generalizes the descent basis for the Garsia-Procesi module $R_λ$ studied by Carlsson-Chou and Hanada, as well as the descent basis for the generalized coinvariant algebras $R_{n,k}$ studied by Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono. This basis is deeply connected with a combinatorial object called battery-powered tableaux, introduced by Gillespie-Griffin. We highlight the representation theoretic properties of this monomial basis by using it to give a direct combinatorial proof of the graded Frobenius character of $R_{n,λ,s}$ in terms of battery-powered tableaux, a fact which has only the geometric proof of Gillespie-Griffin.
We also conjecture a higher Specht basis of $R_{n,λ,s}$, generalizing the higher Specht basis of the coinvariant ring defined in Ariki-Terasoma-Yamada. This construction coincides with the Gillespie-Rhoades higher Specht basis for $R_{n,k}$. We give a proof for when $λ= (λ_1,λ_2)$ is a partition of two rows.
Ordered set partition posets
The lattice of partitions of a set and its d-divisible generalization have been much studied for their combinatorial, topological, and representation-theoretic properties. An ordered set partition is a set partition where the subsets are listed in a specific order. Ordered set partitions appear in combinatorics, number theory, permutation polytopes, and the study of coinvariant algebras. The ordered set partitions of {1,\ldots,n} can be partially ordered by refinement and then a unique minimal element attached, resulting in a lattice Omega_n. This lattice has appeared while studying other combinatorial objects, but not as the central focus. The purpose of this paper is to provide the first comprehensive look at Omega_n. In particular, we show that it admits a recursive atom ordering, and study the action of the symmetric group S_n on associated homology groups, looking in particular at the multiplicity of the trivial representation. We also consider the related posets where every block has size either divisible by some fixed d at least 2 or congruent to 1 modulo d. Open problems and avenues for future research are scattered throughout.
Monomial stability of Frobenius images
We study representation stability in the sense of Church, Ellenberg, and Farb \cite{FI-module} through the lens of symmetric function theory and the different symmetric function bases. We show that a sequence, $(F_n)_n$, where $F_n$ is a homogeneous symmetric function of degree $n$, has stabilizing Schur coefficients if and only if it has stabilizing monomial coefficients. More generally, we develop a framework for checking when stabilizing coefficients transfer from one symmetric function basis to another. We also see how one may compute representation stable ranges from the monomial expansions of the $F_n$.\parspace
As applications, we reprove and refine the representation stability of diagonal coinvariant algebras, $DR_n$. We also observe new representation stability phenomena of the Garsia-Haiman modules. This establishes certain stability properties of the modified Macdonald polynomials, $\tilde{H}_{μ^{(n)}}[X;q,t]$ and the modified $q,t$-Kostka numbers, $\tilde{K}_{μ^{(n)},ν[n]}(q,t)$, for arbitrary sequences of partitions with $μ^{(n)}\vdash n$ and $μ^{(n)}\subseteq μ^{(n+1)}$.
The number of monotone trapezoids with prescribed bottom row
We establish an operator formula for the number of monotone trapezoids with prescribed bottom row, generalizing alternating sign matrices. The special case of the formula for monotone triangles previously provided an alternative proof for the enumeration of alternating sign matrices and led to several results on alternating sign triangles and alternating sign trapezoids. The generalization presented in this paper reveals an additional ``hidden operator'' that is annihilated in the special case of monotone triangles, whose discovery was a major challenge.
The enumeration formula is conceptually simple: it applies, in addition to the newly discovered hidden operator, an operator ensuring row strictness to the formula for the number of Gelfand--Tsetlin trapezoids. Notably, the top row of the monotone trapezoid is not prescribed. Thus, our result involves a free boundary, which is a novel situation in this area. We also uncover an unexpected relation to the coinvariant algebra and propose a conjecture on its generalization.
Revisiting Foulkes characters of wreath products
The article is concerned with the Foulkes characters of wreath products, which are block characters of wreath products, i.e., the positive-definite class functions depending only on the length of its elements. Inspired by the works of Gnedin--Gorin--Kerov and Miller, we introduce two specializations of the Schur--Weyl--Sergeev duality for wreath products and obtain two families of block characters, which provide a decomposition and an alternative construction of the Foulkes characters of wreath products. In particular, we give alternative proofs on some remarkable properties of the Foulkes characters. Along the way, we show that the Foulkes characters are the extreme rays of the cone of the block characters of wreath products and construct the representations with traces being the Foulkes characters via the coinvariant algebra of wreath products.
Hikita conjecture for classical Lie algebras
Let $G$ be $Sp_{2n}$, $SO_{2n}$ or $SO_{2n+1}$ and let $G^\vee$ be its Langlands dual group. Barbasch and Vogan based on earlier work of Lusztig and Spaltenstein, define a duality map $D$ that sends nilpotent orbits $\mathbb{O}_{e^\vee} \subset \mathfrak{g}^\vee$ to special nilpotent orbits $\mathbb{O}_e\subset \mathfrak{g}$. In a work by Losev, Mason-Brown and Matvieievskyi, an upgraded version $\tilde{D}$ of this duality is considered, called the refined BVLS duality. $\tilde{D}(\mathbb{O}_{e^\vee})$ is a $G$-equivariant cover $\tilde{\mathbb{O}}_e$ of $\mathbb{O}_e$. Let $S_{e^\vee}$ be the nilpotent Slodowy slice of the orbit $\mathbb{O}_{e^\vee}$. The two varieties $X^\vee= S_{e^\vee}$ and $X=$ Spec$(\mathbb{C}[\tilde{\mathbb{O}}_e])$ are expected to be symplectic dual to each other. In this context, a version of the Hikita conjecture predicts an isomorphism between the cohomology ring of the Springer fiber $\mathcal{B}_{e^\vee}$ and the ring of regular functions on the scheme-theoretic fixed point $X^T$ for some torus $T$. This paper verifies the isomorphism for certain pairs $e$ and $e^\vee$. These cases are expected to cover almost all instances in which the Hikita conjecture holds when $e^\vee$ regular in a Levi $\mathfrak{l}^\vee\subset \mathfrak{g}^\vee$. Our results in these cases follow from the relations of three different types of objects: generalized coinvariant algebras, equivariant cohomology rings, and functions on scheme-theoretic intersections. We also give evidence for the Hikita conjecture when $e^\vee$ is distinguished.
Stirling numbers for complex reflection groups
In an earlier paper, we defined and studied q-analogues of the Stirling numbers of both types for the Coxeter group of type B. In the present work, we show how this approach can be extended to all irreducible complex reflection groups G. The Stirling numbers of the first and second kind are defined via the Whitney numbers of the first and second kind, respectively, of the intersection lattice of G. For the groups G(m,p,n), these numbers and polynomials can be given combinatorial interpretations in terms of various statistics. The ordered version of ths q-Stirling numbers of the second kind also show up in conjectured Hilbert series for certain super coinvariant algebras.

We assign to each Young diagram $λ$ a subset $\mathcal{B}_{λ'}$ of the collection of Garsia-Stanton descent monomials, and prove that it determines a basis of the Garsia-Procesi module $R_λ$, whose graded character is the Hall-Littlewood polynomial $\tilde{H}_λ[X;t]$. This basis is a major index analogue of the basis $\mathcal{B}_λ\subset R_λ$ defined by certain recursions in due to Garsia and Procesi, in the same way that the descent basis is related to the Artin basis of the coinvariant algebra $R_n$, which in fact corresponds to the case when $λ=1^n$. By anti-symmetrizing a subset of this basis with respect to the corresponding Young subgroup under the Springer action, we obtain a basis in the parabolic case, as well as a corresponding formula for the expansion of $\tilde{H}_λ[X;t]$. Despite a similar appearance, it does not appear obvious how to connect these formulas appear to the specialization of the modified Macdonald formula of Haglund, Haiman and Loehr at $q=0$.

We initiate the study of the Macdonald intersection polynomials $\operatorname{I}_{μ^{(1)},\dots,μ^{(k)}}[X;q,t]$, which are indexed by $k$-tuples of partitions $μ^{(1)},\dots,μ^{(k)}$. These polynomials are conjectured to be equal to the bigraded Frobenius characteristic of the intersection of Garsia-Haiman modules, as proposed by the science fiction conjecture of Bergeron and Garsia. In this work, we establish the vanishing identity and the shape independence of the Macdonald intersection polynomials. Additionally, we unveil a remarkable connection between $\operatorname{I}_{μ^{(1)},\dots,μ^{(k)}}$ and the character $\nabla e_{k-1}$ of diagonal coinvariant algebra by employing the plethystic formula for the Macdonald polynomials of Garsia--Haiman--Tesler. Furthermore, we establish a connection between $\operatorname{I}_{μ^{(1)},\dots,μ^{(k)}}$ and the shuffle formula $D_{k-1}[X;q,t]$, utilizing novel combinatorial tools such as the column exchange rule, a new fermionic formula for the shuffle formula, and the lightning bolt formula for Macdonald intersection polynomials. Notably, our findings provide a new proof for the shuffle theorem.
q-Stirling numbers in type B
Stirling numbers, which count partitions of a set and permutations in the symmetric group, have found extensive application in combinatorics, geometry, and algebra. We study analogues and q-analogues of these numbers corresponding to the Coxeter group of type B. In particular, we show how they are related to complete homogeneous and elementary symmetric polynomials; demonstrate how they q-count signed partitions and permutations; compute their ordinary, exponential, and q-exponential generating functions; and prove various identities about them. Ordered analogues of the q-Stirling numbers of the second kind have recently appeared in conjectures of Zabrocki and of Swanson--Wallach concerning the Hilbert series of certain super coinvariant algebras. We provide conjectural bases for these algebras and show that they have the correct Hilbert series.

We give refined bounds for the regularity of FI-modules and the stable ranges of FI-modules for various forms of their stabilization studied in the representation stability literature. We show that our bounds are sharp in several cases. We apply these to get explicit stable ranges for diagonal coinvariant algebras, and improve those for ordered configuration spaces of manifolds and congruence subgroups of general linear groups.

Inspired by a series of conjectures related to higher coinvariant algebras, we present two families of relations involving harmonic differential forms of the symmetric group. Our relations, together with a novel bijection, are sufficient to give a filtration of the $1$-forms suggested by work of Haglund--Rhoades--Shimozono with composition factors given by Tanisaki quotients. These are "almost all" of the necessary relations in a certain asymptotic sense we make precise.
Harmonic differential forms for pseudo-reflection groups II. Bi-degree bounds

This paper studies three results that describe the structure of the super-coinvariant algebra of pseudo-reflection groups over a field of characteristic $0$. Our most general result determines the top component in total degree, which we prove for all Shephard--Todd groups $G(m, p, n)$ with $m \neq p$ or $m=1$. Our strongest result gives tight bi-degree bounds and is proven for all $G(m, 1, n)$, which includes the Weyl groups of types $A$ and $B$/$C$. For symmetric groups (i.e. type $A$), this provides new evidence for a recent conjecture of Zabrocki related to the Delta Conjecture of Haglund--Remmel--Wilson. Finally, we examine analogues of a classic theorem of Steinberg and the Operator Theorem of Haiman.
Our arguments build on the type-independent classification of semi-invariant harmonic differential forms carried out in the first part of this series. In this paper we use concrete constructions including Gröbner and Artin bases for the classical coinvariant algebras of the pseudo-reflection groups $G(m, p, n)$, which we describe in detail. We also prove that exterior differentiation is exact on the super-coinvariant algebra of a general pseudo-reflection group. Finally, we discuss related conjectures and enumerative consequences.
Packed Words and Quotient Rings

The coinvariant algebra is a quotient of the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ whose algebraic properties are governed by the combinatorics of permutations of length $n$. A word $w = w_1 \dots w_n$ over the positive integers is packed if whenever $i > 2$ appears as a letter of $w$, so does $i-1$. We introduce a quotient $S_n$ of $\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ which is governed by the combinatorics of packed words. We relate our quotient $S_n$ to the generalized coinvariant rings of Haglund, Rhoades, and Shimozono as well as the superspace coinvariant ring.

Let $k \leq n$ be nonnegative integers and let $λ$ be a partition of $k$. S. Griffin recently introduced a quotient $R_{n,λ}$ of the polynomial ring $\mathbb{Q}[x_1, \dots, x_n]$ in $n$ variables which simultaneously generalizes the Delta Conjecture coinvariant rings of Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono and the cohomology rings of Springer fibers studied by Tanisaki and Garsia-Procesi. We describe the space $V_{n,λ}$ of harmonics attached to $R_{n,λ}$ and produce a harmonic basis of $R_{n,λ}$ indexed by certain ordered set partitions $\mathcal{OP}_{n,λ}$. The combinatorics of this basis is governed by a new extension of the {\em Lehmer code} of a permutation to $\mathcal{OP}_{n, λ}$.

We introduce a family of ideals $I_{n,λ,s}$ in $\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\dots,x_n]$ for $λ$ a partition of $k\leq n$ and an integer $s \geq \ell(λ)$. This family contains both the Tanisaki ideals $I_λ$ and the ideals $I_{n,k}$ of Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono as special cases. We study the corresponding quotient rings $R_{n,λ,s}$ as symmetric group modules. When $n=k$ and $s$ is arbitrary, we recover the Garsia-Procesi modules, and when $λ=(1^k)$ and $s=k$, we recover the generalized coinvariant algebras of Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono. We give a monomial basis for $R_{n,λ,s}$, unifying the monomial bases studied by Garsia-Procesi and Haglund-Rhoades-Shimozono, and realize the $S_n$-module structure of $R_{n,λ,s}$ in terms of an action on $(n,λ,s)$-ordered set partitions. We also prove formulas for the Hilbert series and graded Frobenius characteristic of $R_{n,λ,s}$. We then connect our work with Eisenbud-Saltman rank varieties using results of Weyman. As an application of our work, we give a monomial basis, Hilbert series formula, and graded Frobenius characteristic formula for the coordinate ring of the scheme-theoretic intersection of a rank variety with diagonal matrices.
Harmonic differential forms for pseudo-reflection groups I. Semi-invariants

We give a type-independent construction of an explicit basis for the semi-invariant harmonic differential forms of an arbitrary pseudo-reflection group in characteristic zero. Our "top-down" approach uses the methods of Cartan's exterior calculus and is in some sense dual to related work of Solomon, Orlik--Solomon, and Shepler describing (semi-)invariant differential forms. We apply our results to a recent conjecture of Zabrocki which provides a representation theoretic-model for the Delta conjecture of Haglund--Remmel--Wilson in terms of a certain non-commutative coinvariant algebra for the symmetric group. In particular, we verify the alternating component of a specialization of Zabrocki's conjecture.
Asymptotic normality of the major index on standard tableaux
We consider the distribution of the major index on standard tableaux of arbitrary straight shape and certain skew shapes. We use cumulants to classify all possible limit laws for any sequence of such shapes in terms of a simple auxiliary statistic, aft, generalizing earlier results of Canfield--Janson--Zeilberger, Chen--Wang--Wang, and others. These results can be interpreted as giving a very precise description of the distribution of irreducible representations in different degrees of coinvariant algebras of certain complex reflection groups. We conclude with some conjectures concerning unimodality, log-concavity, and local limit theorems.
