The weighted hook length formula III: Shifted tableaux
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, a simple proof of the hook length formula was given via the branching rule. In this paper, we extend the results to shifted tableaux. We give a bijective proof of the branching rule for the hook lengths for shifted tableaux; present variants of this rule, including weighted versions; and make the first tentative steps toward a bijective proof of the hook length formula for d-complete posets.

The weighted hook-length formula II: Complementary formulas
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, a new weighted generalization of the branching rule for the hook lengths, equivalent to the hook formula, was proved. In this paper, we generalize the complementary branching rule, which can be used to prove Burnside's formula. We present three different proofs: bijective, via weighted hook walks, and via the ordinary weighted branching rule.
The weighted hook length formula
Published • View PublicationBIB
Based on the ideas in [CKP], we introduce the weighted analogue of the branching rule for the classical hook length formula, and give two proofs of this result. The first proof is completely bijective, and in a special case gives a new short combinatorial proof of the hook length formula. Our second proof is probabilistic, generalizing the (usual) hook walk proof of Green-Nijenhuis-Wilf, as well as the q-walk of Kerov. Further applications are also presented.

A note on hook length formulas for trees
In this short note we discuss recent results on hook length formulas of trees unifying some earlier results, and explain hook length formulas naturally associated to families of increasingly labelled trees.

Symmetric and Antisymmetric Vector-valued Jack Polynomials
Published in Sem. Lothar. Combin. B64a (2010), 31 pp • Search Publication
Polynomials with values in an irreducible module of the symmetric group can be given the structure of a module for the rational Cherednik algebra, called a standard module. This algebra has one free parameter and is generated by differential-difference ("Dunkl") operators, multiplication by coordinate functions and the group algebra. By specializing Griffeth's (arXiv:0707.0251) results for the G(r,p,n) setting, one obtains norm formulae for symmetric and antisymmetric polynomials in the standard module. Such polynomials of minimum degree have norms which involve hook-lengths and generalize the norm of the alternating polynomial.

An involution for symmetry of hook length and part length of partitions
Published in Discrete Mathematics, 310(10-11), 1633-1639, 2010 • View PublicationBIB
A {\em pointed partition} of $n$ is a pair $(λ, v)$ where $λ\vdash n$ and $v$ is a cell in its Ferrers diagram. We construct an involution on pointed partitions of $n$ exchanging "hook length" and "part length". This gives a bijective proof of a recent result of Bessenrodt and Han.
Hook Length Formulas for Trees by Han's Expansion
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently Han obtained a general formula for the weight function corresponding to the expansion of a generating function in terms of hook lengths of binary trees. In this paper, we present formulas for k-ary trees, plane trees, plane forests, labeled trees and forests. We also find appropriate generating functions which lead to unifications of the hook length formulas due to Du and Liu, Han, Gessel and Seo, and Postnikov.

On the diagonal hooks of a symmetric partition
Using only a symmetric p-core partition and p-quotient, we give an explicit formula for the set of diagonal hook lengths of the associated symmetric partition.

Polynomiality of some hook-length statistics
Published • View PublicationBIB
We prove a conjecture of Okada giving an exact formula for a certain statistic for hook-lengths of partitions: \frac{1}{n!} \sum_{λ\vdash n} f_λ^2 \sum_{u \in λ} \prod_{i=1}^{r}(h_u^2 - i^2) = \frac{1}{2(r+1)^2} \binom{2r}{r}\binom{2r+2}{r+1} \prod_{j=0}^{r} (n-j), where $f_λ$ is the number of standard Young tableaux of shape $λ$ and $h_u$ is the hook length of the square $u$ of the Young diagram of $λ$. We also obtain other similar formulas.

We discuss Sekiguchi-type differential operators, their eigenvalues, and a generalization of Andrews-Goulden-Jackson formula. These will be applied to extract explicit formulae involving shifted partitions and hook lengths.

Hook lengths and shifted parts of partitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
Some conjectures on partition hook lengths, recently stated by the author, have been proved and generalized by Stanley, who also needed a formula by Andrews, Goulden and Jackson on symmetric functions to complete his derivation. Another identity on symmetric functions can be used instead. The purpose of this note is to prove it.

Some Combinatorial Properties of Hook Lengths, Contents, and Parts of Partitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
This paper proves a generalization of a conjecture of Guoniu Han, inspired originally by an identity of Nekrasov and Okounkov. The main result states that certain sums over partitions p of n, involving symmetric functions of the squares of the hook lengths of p, are polynomial functions of n. A similar result is obtained for symmetric functions of the contents and shifted parts of n.

Hook lengths and 3-cores
Published • View PublicationBIB
Recently, the first author generalized a formula of Nekrasov and Okounkov which gives a combinatorial formula, in terms of hook lengths of partitions, for the coefficients of certain power series. In the course of this investigation, he conjectured that $A000731(n)=0$ if and only if $A033687(n)=0$. The numbers $A000731(n)$ are given in terms of hook lengths of partitions, while $A033687(n)$ equals the number of 3-core partitions of $n$. Here we prove this conjecture.

Discovering hook length formulas by expansion technique
Published • View PublicationBIB
We introduce the hook length expansion technique and explain how to discover old and new hook length formulas for partitions and plane trees. The new hook length formulas for trees obtained by our method can be proved rather easily, whereas those for partitions are much more difficult and some of them still remain open conjectures. We also develop a Maple package HookExp for computing the hook length expansion. The paper can be seen as a collection of hook length formulas for partitons and plane trees. All examples are illustrated by HookExp and, for many easy cases, expained by well-known combinatorial arguments.

In this paper, we define two kinds of hook length for internal vertices of complete $m$-ary trees, and deduce their corresponding hook length formulas, which generalize the main results obtained by Du and Liu.

The Nekrasov-Okounkov hook length formula: refinement, elementary proof, extension and applications
Published • View PublicationBIB
The paper is devoted to the derivation of the expansion formula for the powers of the Euler Product in terms of partition hook lengths, discovered by Nekrasov and Okounkov in their study of the Seiberg-Witten Theory. We provide a refinement based on a new property of t-cores, and give an elementary proof by using the Macdonald identities. We also obtain an extension by adding two more parameters, which appears to be a discrete interpolation between the Macdonald identities and the generating function for t-cores. Several applications are derived, including the "marked hook formula".

Probabilistic proofs of hook length formulas involving trees
Recently, Han discovered two formulas involving binary trees which have the interestig property that hooklengths appear as exponents. The purpose of this note is to give a probabilistic proof of one of Han's formulas. Yang has generalized Han's results to ordered trees. We show how the probabilistic approach can also be used in Yang's setting, as well as for a generalization of Han's formula in terms of certain infinite trees.

Generalizations of Han's Hook Length Identities
Han recently discovered new hook length identities for binary trees. In this paper, we extend Han's identities to binomial families of trees. Moreover, we present a bijective proof of one of the identities for the family of ordered trees.

Yet another generalization of Postnikov's hook length formula for binary trees
Published • View PublicationBIB
We discover another one-parameter generalization of Postnikov's hook length formula for binary trees. The particularity of our formula is that the hook length $h_v$ appears as an exponent. As an application, we derive another simple hook length formula for binary trees when the underlying parameter takes the value 1/2.
