The functional equation defining the free cumulants in free probability is lifted successively to the noncommutative Faà di Bruno algebra, and then to the group of a free operad over Schröder trees. This leads to new combinatorial expressions, which remain valid for operator-valued free probability. Specializations of these expressions give back Speicher's formula in terms of noncrossing partitions, and its interpretation in terms of characters due to Ebrahimi-Fard and Patras.
Partitions with fixed largest hook length

Motivated by a recent paper of Straub, we study the distribution of integer partitions according to the length of their largest hook, instead of the usual statistic, namely the size of the partitions. We refine Straub's analogue of Euler's Odd-Distinct partition theorem, derive a generalization in the spirit of Alder's conjecture, as well as a curious analogue of the first Rogers-Ramanujan identity. Moreover, we obtain a partition theorem that is the counterpart of Euler's pentagonal number theory in this setting, and connect it with the Rogers-Fine identity. We concludes with some congruence properties.
On $(2k+1, 2k+3)$-core partitions with distinct parts
In this paper, we are mainly concerned with the enumeration of $(2k+1, 2k+3)$-core partitions with distinct parts. We derive the number and the largest size of such partitions, confirming two conjectures posed by Straub.
Top degree part in $b$-conjecture for unicellular bipartite maps

Goulden and Jackson (1996) introduced, using Jack symmetric functions, some multivariate generating series $ψ(x, y, z; 1, 1+β)$ with an additional parameter $β$ that may be interpreted as a continuous deformation of the rooted bipartite maps generating series. Indeed, it has the property that for $β\in \{0,1\}$, it specializes to the rooted, orientable (general, i.e. orientable or not, respectively) bipartite maps generating series. They made the following conjecture: coefficients of $ψ$ are polynomials in $β$ with positive integer coefficients that can be written as a multivariate generating series of rooted, general bipartite maps, where the exponent of $β$ is an integer-valued statistic that in some sense "measures the non-orientability" of the corresponding bipartite map.
We show that except for two special values of $β= 0,1$ for which the combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients of $ψ$ is known, there exists a third special value $β= -1$ for which the coefficients of $ψ$ indexed by two partitions $μ,ν$, and one partition with only one part are given by rooted, orientable bipartite maps with arbitrary face degrees and black/white vertex degrees given by $μ$/$ν$, respectively. We show that this evaluation corresponds, up to a sign, to a top-degree part of the coefficients of $ψ$. As a consequence, we introduce a collection of integer-valued statistics of maps $(η)$ such that the top-degree of the multivariate generating series of rooted bipartite maps with only one face (called unicellular) with respect to $η$ gives the top-degree of the appropriate coefficients of $ψ$. Finally, we show that the $b$-conjecture holds true for all rooted, unicellular bipartite maps of genus at most $2$.
A broad class of shellable lattices

We introduce a new class of lattices, the modernistic lattices, and their duals, the comodernistic lattices. We show that every modernistic or comodernistic lattice has shellable order complex. We go on to exhibit a large number of examples of (co)modernistic lattices. We show comodernism for two main families of lattices that were not previously known to be shellable: the order congruence lattices of finite posets, and a weighted generalization of the k-equal partition lattices.
We also exhibit many examples of (co)modernistic lattices that were already known to be shellable. To start with, the definition of modernistic is a common weakening of the definitions of semimodular and supersolvable. We thus obtain a unified proof that lattice in these classes are shellable.
Subgroup lattices of solvable groups form another family of comodernistic lattices that were already proved to be shellable. We show not only that subgroup lattices of solvable groups are comodernistic, but that solvability of a group is equivalent to the comodernistic property on its subgroup lattice. Indeed, the definition of comodernistic exactly requires on every interval a lattice-theoretic analogue of the composition series in a solvable group. Thus, the relation between comodernistic lattices and solvable groups resembles, in several respects, that between supersolvable lattices and supersolvable groups.

Given $k$ pairs of vertices $(s_i,t_i)\;(1\le i\le k)$ of a digraph $G$, how can we test whether there exist vertex-disjoint directed paths from $s_i$ to $t_i$ for $1\le i\le k$? This is NP-complete in general digraphs, even for $k = 2$, but in an earlier paper we proved that for all fixed $k$, there is a polynomial-time algorithm to solve the problem if $G$ is a tournament (or more generally, a semicomplete digraph). Here we prove that for all fixed $k$ there is a polynomial-time algorithm to solve the problem when $V(G)$ is partitioned into a bounded number of sets each inducing a semicomplete digraph (and we are given the partition).

In this paper, we study the asymptotic behavior of the first, second, and so on rows of stochastically decaying partitions. We establish that, with appropriate scaling in time and length, the sequence of rows converges to the Airy$_2$ line ensemble.
This result was first established, in a more general setting, by Borodin and Olshanski, who relied on the determinantal structure of the Poissonized correlation functions. Our argument is based on a different, combinatorial approach, developed by Okounkov. This approach may be useful in other problems in which no determinantal structure is available, and also highlights the similarity between random partitions and random matrices.
On regularity lemmas and their algorithmic applications

Szemerédi's regularity lemma and its variants are some of the most powerful tools in combinatorics. In this paper, we establish several results around the regularity lemma. First, we prove that whether or not we include the condition that the desired vertex partition in the regularity lemma is equitable has a minimal effect on the number of parts of the partition. Second, we use an algorithmic version of the (weak) Frieze--Kannan regularity lemma to give a substantially faster deterministic approximation algorithm for counting subgraphs in a graph. Previously, only an exponential dependence for the running time on the error parameter was known, and we improve it to a polynomial dependence. Third, we revisit the problem of finding an algorithmic regularity lemma, giving approximation algorithms for several co-NP-complete problems. We show how to use the weak Frieze--Kannan regularity lemma to approximate the regularity of a pair of vertex subsets. We also show how to quickly find, for each $ε'>ε$, an $ε'$-regular partition with $k$ parts if there exists an $ε$-regular partition with $k$ parts. Finally, we give a simple proof of the permutation regularity lemma which improves the tower-type bound on the number of parts in the previous proofs to a single exponential bound.

We present a study of three families of Kronecker coefficients, which we describe in terms of reduced Kronecker coefficients. This study is grounded on the generating function of the coefficients, proved by a bijection between two combinatorial objects. This study includes the connection between plane partitions and these three families of reduced Kronecker coefficients, providing us their combinatorial interpretation. As an application, we verify that the saturation hypothesis holds for our three families of reduced Kronecker coefficients. The study also includes other interpretation in terms of the quasipolynomials that govern these families. We specify the degree and the period of these quasipolynomials. Finally, the direct relation between Kronecker coefficients and reduced Kronecker coefficients allows us to give some observations about the rate of growth of the Kronecker coefficients associated to the reduced Kronecker coefficients of the study.
A lattice point counting generalisation of the Tutte polynomial

The Tutte polynomial for matroids is not directly applicable to polymatroids. For instance, deletion-contraction properties do not hold. We construct a polynomial for polymatroids which behaves similarly to the Tutte polynomial of a matroid, and in fact contains the same information as the Tutte polynomial when we restrict to matroids. This polynomial is constructed using lattice point counts in the Minkowski sum of the base polytope of a polymatroid and scaled copies of the standard simplex. We also show that, in the matroid case, our polynomial has coefficients of alternating sign, with a combinatorial interpretation closely tied to the Dawson partition.
A bijective proof of the Cauchy identity for Grothendieck polynomials
We consider pairs of a set-valued column-strict tableau and a reverse plane partition of the same shape. We introduce algortithms for them, which implies a bijective proof for the finite sum Cauchy identity for Grothendieck polynomials and dual Grothendieck polynomials.

Lusztig's theory of PBW bases gives a way to realize the infinity crystal for any simple complex Lie algebra where the underlying set consists of Kostant partitions. In fact, there are many different such realizations, one for each reduced expression for the longest element of the Weyl group. There is an algorithm to calculate the actions of the crystal operators, but it can be quite complicated. For ADE types, we give conditions on the reduced expression which ensure that the corresponding crystal operators are given by simple combinatorial bracketing rules. We then give at least one reduced expression satisfying our conditions in every type except $E_8$, and discuss the resulting combinatorics. Finally, we describe the relationship with more standard tableaux combinatorics in types A and D.

In this paper, for a graph G and a family of partitions P of vertex neighborhoods of G, we define the general corona G \circ P of G. Among several properties of this new operation, we focus on application general coronas to a new kind of characterization of trees with the domination subdivision number equal to 3.
On chromatic functors and stable partitions of graphs

The chromatic functor of a simple graph is a functorization of the chromatic polynomial. M. Yoshinaga showed in \cite{Yoshinaga2015} that two finite graphs have isomorphic chromatic functors if and only if they have the same chromatic polynomial. The key ingredient in the proof is the use of stable partitions of graphs. The latter is shown to be closely related to chromatic functors. In this note, we further investigate some interesting properties of chromatic functors associated to simple graphs using stable partitions. Our first result is the determination of the group of natural automorphisms of the chromatic functor, which is in general a larger group than the automorphism group of the graph. The second result is that the composition of the chromatic functor associated to a finite graph restricted to the category $\mathrm{FI}$ of finite sets and injections with the free functor into the category of complex vector spaces yields a consistent sequence of representations of symmetric groups which is representation stable in the sense of Church-Farb \cite{Church2013}.
Topology of unavoidable complexes
The partition number $π(K)$ of a simplicial complex $K\subset 2^{[m]}$ is the minimum integer $ν$ such that for each partition $A_1\uplus\ldots\uplus A_ν= [m]$ of $[m]$ at least one of the sets $A_i$ is in $K$. A complex $K$ is $r$-unavoidable if $π(K)\leq r$. We say that a complex $K$ is globally $r$-non-embeddable in $\mathbb{R}^d$ if for each continuous map $f: | K| \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^d$ there exist $r$ vertex disjoint faces $σ_1,\ldots, σ_r$ of $| K|$ such that $f(σ_1)\cap\ldots\cap f(σ_r)\neq\emptyset$. Motivated by the problems of Tverberg-Van Kampen-Flores type we prove several results (Theorems 3.6, 3.9, 4.6) which link together the combinatorics and topology of these two classes of complexes. One of our central observations (Theorem 4.6), summarizing and extending results of G. Schild, B. Grünbaum and many others, is that interesting examples of (globally) $r$-non-embeddable complexes can be found among the joins $K = K_1\ast\ldots\ast K_s$ of $r$-unavoidable complexes.
Representation stability for the cohomology of arrangements associated to root systems

From a root system, one may consider the arrangement of reflecting hyperplanes, as well as its toric and elliptic analogues. The corresponding Weyl group acts on the complement of the arrangement and hence on its cohomology. We consider a sequence of linear, toric, or elliptic arrangements which arise from a family of root systems of type A, B, C, or D, and we show that the rational cohomology stabilizes as a sequence of Weyl group representations. Our techniques combine a Leray spectral sequence argument similar to that of Church in the type A case along with FI$_W$-module theory which Wilson developed and used in the linear case. A key to the proof relies on a combinatorial description, using labelled partitions, of the poset of connected components of intersections of subvarieties in the arrangement.

The theory of q-analogs develops many combinatorial formulas for finite vector spaces over a finite field with q elements--all in analogy with formulas for finite sets (which are the special case of q=1). A direct-sum decomposition of a finite vector space is the vector space analogue of a set partition. This paper develops the formulas for the number of direct-sum decompositions that are the q-analogs of the formulas for: (1) the number of set partitions with a given number partition signature; (2) the number of set partitions of an n-element set with m blocks (the Stirling numbers of the second kind); and (3) for the total number of set partitions of an n-element set (the Bell numbers).

Berkovich-Uncu have recently proved a companion of the well-known Capparelli's identities as well as refinements of Savage-Sills' new little Göllnitz identities. Noticing the connection between their results and Boulet's earlier four-parameter partition generating functions, we discover a new class of partitions, called $k$-strict partitions, to generalize their results. By applying both horizontal and vertical dissections of Ferrers' diagrams with appropriate labellings, we provide a unified combinatorial treatment of their results and shed more lights on the intriguing conditions of their companion to Capparelli's identities.

We completely describe all Brill-Noether loci on metric graphs consisting of a chain of g cycles with arbitrary edge lengths, generalizing work of Cools, Draisma, Payne, and Robeva. The structure of these loci is determined by displacement tableaux on rectangular partitions, which we define. More generally, we fix a marked point on the rightmost cycle, and completely analyze the loci of divisor classes with specified ramification at the marked point, classifying them using displacement tableaux. Our results give a tropical proof of the generalized Brill-Noether theorem for general marked curves, and serve as a foundation for the analysis of general algebraic curves of fixed gonality.
The First Time KE is Broken up
A relevant collection is a collection, $F$, of sets, such that each set in $F$ has the same cardinality, $α(F)$. A Konig Egervary (KE) collection is a relevant collection $F$, that satisfies $|\bigcup F|+|\bigcap F|=2α(F)$. An hke (hereditary KE) collection is a relevant collection such that all of his non-empty subsets are KE collections. In \cite{jlm} and \cite{dam}, Jarden, Levit and Mandrescu presented results concerning graphs, that give the motivation for the study of hke collections. In \cite{hke}, Jarden characterize hke collections.
Let $Γ$ be a relevant collection such that $Γ-\{S\}$ is an hke collection, for every $S \in Γ$. We study the difference between $|\bigcap Γ_1-\bigcup Γ_2|$ and $|\bigcap Γ_2-\bigcup Γ_1|$, where $\{Γ_1,Γ_2\}$ is a partition of $Γ$. We get new characterizations for an hke collection and for a KE graph.
