Strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the symplectic graph
We consider orbit partitions of groups of automorphisms for the symplectic graph and apply Godsil-McKay switching. As a result, we find four families of strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the symplectic graphs, including the one discovered by Abiad and Haemers. Also, we prove that switched graphs are non-isomorphic to each other by considering the number of common neighbors of three vertices.

We prove general sufficient and necessary conditions for the partition regularity of Diophantine equations, which extend the classic Rado's Theorem by covering large classes of nonlinear equations. Sufficient conditions are obtained by exploiting algebraic properties in the space of ultrafilters betaN, grounding on combinatorial properties of positive density sets and IP sets. Necessary conditions are proved by a new technique in nonstandard analysis, based on the use of the relation of u-equivalence for the hypernatural numbers *N.

In this paper we describe the thickened strips and the outside nested decompositions of any skew shape $λ/μ$. For any such decomposition $Φ=(Θ_1,Θ_2,\ldots,Θ_g)$ of the skew shape $λ/μ$ where $Θ_i$ is a thickened strip for every $i$, if $r$ is the number of boxes that are contained in any two distinct thickened strips of $Φ$, we establish a determinantal formula of the function $s_{λ/μ}(X)p_{1^r}(X)$ with the Schur functions of thickened strips as entries, where $s_{λ/μ}(X)$ is the Schur function of the skew shape $λ/μ$ and $p_{1^r}(X)$ is the power sum symmetric function index by the partition $(1^r)$. This generalizes Hamel and Goulden's theorem on the outside decompositions of the skew shape $λ/μ$. As an application of our theorem, we derive the number of $m$-strip tableaux which was first counted by Baryshnikov and Romik via extending the transfer operator approach due to Elkies.

Using the theory of PBW bases, one can realize the crystal $B(\infty)$ for any semisimple Lie algebra over $\mathbf{C}$ using Kostant partitions as the underlying set. In fact there are many such realizations, one for each reduced expression for the longest element of the Weyl group. There is an algorithm to calculate the actions of the crystal operators, but it can be quite complicated. Here we show that, for certain reduced expressions, the crystal operators can also be described by a much simpler bracketing rule. We give conditions describing these reduced expressions, and show that there is at least one example in every type except possibly $E_8$, $F_4$ and $G_2$. We then discuss some examples.
Filters in the partition lattice

Given a filter $Δ$ in the poset of compositions of $n$, we form the filter $Π^{*}_Δ$ in the partition lattice. We determine all the reduced homology groups of the order complex of $Π^{*}_Δ$ as ${\mathfrak S}_{n-1}$-modules in terms of the reduced homology groups of the simplicial complex $Δ$ and in terms of Specht modules of border shapes. We also obtain the homotopy type of this order complex. These results generalize work of Calderbank--Hanlon--Robinson and Wachs on the $d$-divisible partition lattice. Our main theorem applies to a plethora of examples, including filters associated to integer knapsack partitions and filters generated by all partitions having block sizes $a$ or~$b$. We also obtain the reduced homology groups of the filter generated by all partitions having block sizes belonging to the arithmetic progression $a, a + d, \ldots, a + (a-1) \cdot d$, extending work of Browdy.
A note on the tolerated Tverberg theorem
In this paper we give an asymptotically tight bound for the tolerated Tverberg Theorem when the dimension and the size of the partition are fixed. To achieve this we study certain partitions of order-type homogeneous sets and use a generalization of the Erdős-Szekeres theorem.
On Chari-Loktev bases for local Weyl modules in type $A$

This paper is a study of the bases introduced by Chari-Loktev for local Weyl modules of the current algebra associated to a special linear Lie algebra. Partition overlaid patterns, POPs for short---whose introduction is one of the aims of this paper---form convenient parametrizing sets of these bases. They play a role analogous to that played by (Gelfand-Tsetlin) patterns in the representation theory of the special linear Lie algebra.
The notion of a POP leads naturally to the notion of area of a pattern. We observe that there is a unique pattern of maximal area among all those with a given bounding sequence and given weight. We give a combinatorial proof of this and discuss its representation theoretic relevance.
We then state a conjecture about the "stability", i.e., compatibility in the long range, of Chari-Loktev bases with respect to inclusions of local Weyl modules. In order to state the conjecture, we establish a certain bijection between colored partitions and POPs, which may be of interest in itself.
Arrangements of ideal type
In 2006 Sommers and Tymoczko defined so called arrangements of ideal type A_I stemming from ideals I in the set of positive roots of a reduced root system. They showed in a case by case argument that A_I is free if the root system is of classical type or G_2 and conjectured that this is also the case for all types. This was established only recently in a uniform manner by Abe, Barakat, Cuntz, Hoge and Terao. The set of non-zero exponents of the free arrangement A_I is given by the dual of the height partition of the roots in the complement of I in the set of positive roots, generalizing the Shapiro-Steinberg-Kostant theorem.
Our first aim in this paper is to investigate a stronger freeness property of the A_I. We show that all A_I are inductively free, with the possible exception of some cases in type E_8.
In the same paper, Sommers and Tymoczko define a Poincaré polynomial I(t) associated with each ideal I which generalizes the Poincaré polynomial W(t) for the underlying Weyl group W. Solomon showed that W(t) satisfies a product decomposition depending on the exponents of W for any Coxeter group W. Sommers and Tymoczko showed in a case by case analysis in type A, B and C, and some small rank exceptional types that a similar factorization property holds for the Poincaré polynomials I(t) generalizing the formula of Solomon for W(t). They conjectured that their multiplicative formula for I(t) holds in all types. Here we show that this conjecture holds inductively in almost all instances.

We review product form blocking measures in the general framework of nearest neighbor asymmetric one dimensional misanthrope processes. This class includes exclusion, zero range, bricklayers, and many other models. We characterize the cases when such measures exist in infinite volume, and when finite boundaries need to be added. By looking at inter-particle distances, we extend the construction to some 0-1 valued particle systems e.g., q-ASEP and the Katz-Lebowitz-Spohn process, even outside the misanthrope class. Along the way we provide a full ergodic decomposition of the product blocking measure into components that are characterized by a non-trivial conserved quantity. Substituting in simple exclusion and zero range has an interesting consequence: a purely probabilistic proof of the Jacobi triple product, a famous identity that mostly occurs in number theory and the combinatorics of partitions. Surprisingly, here it follows very naturally from the exclusion - zero range correspondence.
The structure of the minimum size supertail of a subspace partition
Let $V=V(n,q)$ denote the vector space of dimension $n$ over the finite field with $q$ elements. A subspace partition ${\mathcal P}$ of $V$ is a collection of nontrivial subspaces of $V$ such that each nonzero vector of $V$ is in exactly one subspace of ${\mathcal P}$. For any integer $d$, the $d$-supertail of ${\mathcal P}$ is the set of subspaces in ${\mathcal P}$ of dimension less than $d$, and it is denoted by $ST$. Let $σ_q(n,t)$ denote the minimum number of subspaces in any subspace partition of $V$ in which the largest subspace has dimension $t$. It was shown by Heden et al. that $|ST|\geq σ_q(d,t)$, where $t$ is the largest dimension of a subspace in $ST$. In this paper, we show that if $|ST|=σ_q(d,t)$, then the union of all the subspaces in $ST$ constitutes a subspace under certain conditions.
On Hamiltonians for six-vertex models

In this paper, we explain a connection between a family of free-fermionic six-vertex models and a discrete time evolution operator on one-dimensional Fermionic Fock space. The family of ice models generalize those with domain wall boundary, and we focus on two sets of Boltzmann weights whose partition functions were previously shown to generalize a generating function identity of Tokuyama. We produce associated Hamiltonians that recover these Boltzmann weights, and furthermore calculate the partition functions using commutation relations and elementary combinatorics. We give an expression for these partition functions as determinants, akin to the Jacobi-Trudi identity for Schur polynomials.
Edge-colorings of graphs avoiding complete graphs with a prescribed coloring

Given a graph $F$ and an integer $r \ge 2$, a partition $\widehat{F}$ of the edge set of $F$ into at most $r$ classes, and a graph $G$, define $c_{r, \widehat{F}}(G)$ as the number of $r$-colorings of the edges of $G$ that do not contain a copy of $F$ such that the edge partition induced by the coloring is isomorphic to the one of $F$. We think of $\widehat{F}$ as the pattern of coloring that should be avoided. The main question is, for a large enough $n$, to find the (extremal) graph $G$ on $n$ vertices which maximizes $c_{r, \widehat{F}}(G)$. This problem generalizes a question of Erd{\H o}s and Rothschild, who originally asked about the number of colorings not containing a monochromatic clique (which is equivalent to the case where $F$ is a clique and the partition $\widehat{F}$ contains a single class). We use Hölder's Inequality together with Zykov's Symmetrization to prove that, for any $r \geq 2$, $k \geq 3$ and any pattern $\widehat{K_k}$ of the clique $K_k$, there exists a complete multipartite graph that is extremal. Furthermore, if the pattern $\widehat{K_k}$ has at least two classes, with the possible exception of two very small patterns (on three or four vertices), every extremal graph must be a complete multipartite graph. In the case that $r=3$ and $\widehat{F}$ is a rainbow triangle (that is, where $F=K_3$ and each part is a singleton), we show that an extremal graph must be an almost complete graph. Still for $r=3$, we extend a result about monochromatic patterns of Alon, Balogh, Keevash and Sudakov to some patterns that use two of the three colors, finding the exact extremal graph. For the later two results, we use the Regularity and Stability Method.
The square of the 9-hypercube is 14-colorable
The $n$-hypercube, denoted by $Q_n$, has a vertex for each bit string of length $n$ with two vertices adjacent whenever their Hamming distance is one. The minimum number of colors needed to color $Q_n$ such that no two vertices at a distance at most $k$ receive the same color is denoted by $χ_{\bar{k}}(n)$. Equivalently, $χ_{\bar{k}}(n)$ denotes the minimum number of binary codes with minimum distance at least $k+1$ required to partition the $n$-dimensional Hamming space. Using a computer search, we improve upon the known upper bound for $n=9$ by showing that $13 \leq χ_{\bar{2}}(9) \leq 14$.
On the strong chromatic number of graphs

The strong chromatic number, $χ_S(G)$, of an $n$-vertex graph $G$ is the smallest number $k$ such that after adding $k\lceil n/k\rceil-n$ isolated vertices to $G$ and considering {\bf any} partition of the vertices of the resulting graph into disjoint subsets $V_1, \ldots, V_{\lceil n/k\rceil}$ of size $k$ each, one can find a proper $k$-vertex-coloring of the graph such that each part $V_i$, $i=1, \ldots, \lceil n/k\rceil$, contains exactly one vertex of each color.
For any graph $G$ with maximum degree $Δ$, it is easy to see that $χ_S(G)\geqΔ+1$. Recently, Haxell proved that $χ_S(G) \leq 3Δ-1$. In this paper, we improve this bound for graphs with large maximum degree. We show that $χ_S(G)\leq 2Δ$ if $Δ\geq n/6$ and prove that this bound is sharp.

Let ${\cal A}=\{A_1,\ldots, A_r\}$ be a partition of a set $\{1,\ldots,m\}\times\{1,\ldots, n\}$ into $r$ nonempty subsets, and $A=(a_{ij})$ be an $m\times n$ matrix. We say that $A$ has a pattern ${\cal A}$ provided that $a_{ij}=a_{i'j'}$ if and only if $(i,j),(i',j')\in A_t$ for some $t\in\{1,\ldots,r\}$. In this note we study the following function $f$ defined on the set of all $m\times n$ matrices $M$ with $s$ distinct entries: $f(M; {\cal A})$ is the smallest number of positions where the entries of $M$ need to be changed such that the resulting matrix does not have any submatrix with pattern ${\cal A}$. We give an asymptotically tight value for $$ f(m,n; s, {\cal A}) = \max\{f(M; {\cal A}): M \mbox{ is an } m\times n\mbox{ matrix with at most } s \mbox{ distinct entries}\} . $$
Dimensions of irreducible modules for partition algebras and tensor power multiplicities for symmetric and alternating groups

The partition algebra $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$ and the symmetric group $\mathsf{S}_n$ are in Schur-Weyl duality on the $k$-fold tensor power $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$ of the permutation module $\mathsf{M}_n$ of $\mathsf{S}_n$, so there is a surjection $\mathsf{P}_k(n) \to \mathsf{Z}_k(n) := \mathsf{End}_{\mathsf{S}_n}(\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}),$ which is an isomorphism when $n \ge 2k$. We prove a dimension formula for the irreducible modules of the centralizer algebra $\mathsf{Z}_k(n)$ in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind. Via Schur-Weyl duality, these dimensions equal the multiplicities of the irreducible $\mathsf{S}_n$-modules in $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$. Our dimension expressions hold for any $n \geq 1$ and $k\ge0$. Our methods are based on an analog of Frobenius reciprocity that we show holds for the centralizer algebras of arbitrary finite groups and their subgroups acting on a finite-dimensional module. This enables us to generalize the above result to various analogs of the partition algebra including the centralizer algebra for the alternating group acting on $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$ and the quasi-partition algebra corresponding to tensor powers of the reflection representation of $\mathsf{S}_n$.

Applying the quantum group method developed in [KP20], we construct solutions to the Benoit & Saint-Aubin partial differential equations with boundary conditions given by specific recursive asymptotics properties. Our results generalize solutions constructed in [KP16, PW19], known as the pure partition functions of multiple Schramm-Loewner evolutions. The generalization is reminiscent of fusion in conformal field theory, and our solutions can be thought of as partition functions of systems of random curves, where many curves may emerge from the same point.
Explorations in the theory of partition zeta functions

We introduce and survey results on two families of zeta functions connected to the multiplicative and additive theories of integer partitions. In the case of the multiplicative theory, we provide specialization formulas and results on the analytic continuations of these "partition zeta functions", find unusual formulas for the Riemann zeta function, prove identities for multiple zeta values, and see that some of the formulas allow for $p$-adic interpolation. The second family we study was anticipated by Manin and makes use of modular forms, functions which are intimately related to integer partitions by universal polynomial recurrence relations. We survey recent work on these zeta polynomials, including the proof of their Riemann Hypothesis.
Edit distance and its computation

In this paper, we provide a method for determining the asymptotic value of the maximum edit distance from a given hereditary property. This method permits the edit distance to be computed without using Szemerédi's Regularity Lemma directly. Using this new method, we are able to compute the edit distance from hereditary properties for which it was previously unknown. For some graphs $H$, the edit distance from ${\rm Forb}(H)$ is computed, where ${\rm forb}(H)$ is the class of graphs which contain no induced copy of graph $H$.
Those graphs for which we determine the edit distance asymptotically are $H=K_a+E_b$, an $a$-clique with $b$ isolated vertices, and $H=K_{3,3}$, a complete bipartite graph. We also provide a graph, the first such construction, for which the edit distance cannot be determined just by considering partitions of the vertex set into cliques and cocliques.
In the process, we develop weighted generalizations of Turán's theorem, which may be of independent interest.

A restricted growth function (RGF) of length n is a sequence w = w_1 w_2 ... w_n of positive integers such that w_1 = 1 and w_i is at most 1 + max{w_1,..., w_{i-1}} for i at least 2. RGFs are of interest because they are in natural bijection with set partitions of {1, 2, ..., n}. RGF w avoids RGF v if there is no subword of w which standardizes to v. We study the generating functions sum_{w in R_n(v)} q^{st(w)} where R_n(v) is the set of RGFs of length n which avoid v and st(w) is any of the four fundamental statistics on RGFs defined by Wachs and White. These generating functions exhibit interesting connections with integer partitions and two-colored Motzkin paths, as well as noncrossing and nonnesting set partitions.
