Minimal excludant integer and bilateral truncated Jacobi triple product identity
In 2012, Andrews and Merca proved a truncated theorem on Euler's pentagonal number theorem. Since then, a number of results on truncated theta series have been proved, including truncated Jacobi triple product identity. In this paper, we provide partition-theoretic interpretations for the bilateral truncated Jacobi triple product identity in terms of the minimal excludant integer.

On Partition Classes Arising from Parity, Differences, and Repeated Smallest Parts
In this paper, we study various classes of partition functions such as those related to the parity of the number of parts, to differences of partition numbers, and to partitions with a repeated smallest part. We establish identities connecting these various classes of partitions. Moreover, our identities help us to extend the Euler's partition theorem. An analogue of Legendre's theorem of the partition-theoretic interpretation of Euler's pentagonal number theorem is also derived. Both combinatorial and $q$-series proofs are given for our results.

A Dirichlet Generating Function for the Coefficients of Euler's Pentagonal Number Theorem
We establish an integral representation for the Dirichlet generating function of the coefficients of Euler's pentagonal number theorem. The Bromwich-type integral enables analytic continuation to the entire complex plane, filling a gap in the literature and providing a new framework for studying the sequence's analytic structure. Furthermore, we derive the asymptotic behavior as the variable tends to negative infinity, and give integral representations for the Euler function $φ(q)$ and the Dedekind eta function $η(τ)$. Moreover, we obtain an explicit formula for the Dirichlet generating function at each positive integer, expressed as a finite sum.

Euler-type Recurrence Relation for Arbitrary Arithmetical Function

An interplay between the Lambert series and Euler's Pentagonal Number Theorem gives an Euler-type recurrence relation for any given arithmetical function. As consequences of this, we present Euler-type recurrence relations for some well-known arithmetic functions. Furthermore, we derive Euler-type recurrence relations for certain partition functions and sum-of-divisors functions using infinite product identities of Jacobi and Gauss.

Combinatorial interpretation of a truncated identity of Gauss
In 2012, Andrews and Merca proved a truncated theorem on Euler's pentagonal number theorem, which opened up a new study on truncated theta series. In particular, some truncated versions of a identity of Gauss have been proved. In this article, we provide new combinatorial interpretations of the truncated versions of the identity of Gauss in terms of the minimal excludant non-overlined part of an overpartition.

Reciprocals of false theta functions

We investigate reciprocals of false theta functions, producing results such as congruences, simple asymptotic bounds, and combinatorial identities. Of particular interest is a connection between $1/Ψ(-q^2,q)$ and the truncated pentagonal number theorem of Andrews and Merca. We record a useful dissection identity analogous to the known theta function dissection.

Pentagonal number recurrence relations for $p(n)$
We revisit Euler's partition function recurrence, which asserts, for integers $n\geq 1,$ that $$ p(n)=p(n-1)+p(n-2)-p(n-5)-p(n-7)+\dots = \sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}\setminus \{0\}} (-1)^{k+1} p(n-ω(k)), $$ where $ω(m):=(3m^2+m)/2$ is the $m$th pentagonal number. We prove that this classical result is the $ν=0$ case of an infinite family of ``pentagonal number'' recurrences. For each $ν\geq 0,$ we prove for positive $n$ that $$ p(n)=\frac{1}{g_ν(n,0)}\left(α_ν\cdot σ_{2ν-1}(n)+ \mathrm{Tr}_{2ν}(n) +\sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}\setminus \{0\}} (-1)^{k+1} g_ν(n,k)\cdot p(n-ω(k))\right), $$ where $σ_{2ν-1}(n)$ is a divisor function, $\mathrm{Tr}_{2ν}(n)$ is the $n$th weight $2ν$ Hecke trace of values of special twisted quadratic Dirichlet series, and each $g_ν(n,k)$ is a polynomial in $n$ and $k.$ The $ν=6$ case can be viewed as a partition theoretic formula for Ramanujan's tau-function, as we have $$ \mathrm{Tr}_{12}(n)=-\frac{33108590592}{691}\cdot τ(n). $$

A general positivity result on coefficients of certain $q$-series
Based on a classical result on partitions of an integer into a finite set of positive integers, we establish a general positivity result on coefficients of certain $q$-series which uniformly refines the positivity of truncated pentagonal number series, truncated Gauss' identities and some special cases of truncated Jacobi triple product identity. As an application, we prove two positivity conjectures due to Merca.

Two new Bailey pairs and their $q$-identities of Rogers-Ramanujan type modulo 15, 24, and 30
In this paper, we first establish two new Bailey pairs via finding two generalizations of Euler's pentagonal number theorem. Next, we specificize the Bailey lemmas with these two Bailey pairs. As applications, we finally establish some $q$-series transformations and $q$-identities of Rogers-Ramanujan type modulo 15, 24, and 30.

Even and odd compositions with restricted parts
A result of Legendre asserts that the difference between the numbers of (length) even and odd partitions of $n$ into distinct parts is $0$, $1$, or $-1$; this also follows from Euler's pentagonal number theorem. We establish an analogous result for compositions and obtain some generalizations that are related to various entries in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences.

Truncated theta series from the Bailey lattice
In 2012, Andrews and Merca obtained a truncated version of Euler's pentagonal number theorem and showed the nonnegativity related to partition functions. Meanwhile, Andrews-Merca and Guo-Zeng independently conjectured that the truncated Jacobi triple product series has nonnegative coefficients, which has been confirmed analytically and also combinatorially. In 2022, Merca proposed a stronger version for this conjecture. In this paper, by applying Agarwal, Andrews and Bressoud's Bailey lattice, we derive a truncated version for the Jacobi triple product series with odd basis which reduces to the Andrews-Gordon identity as a special instance. As consequences, we obtain new truncated forms for Euler's pentagonal number theorem, Gauss'theta series on triangular numbers and square numbers, which lead to inequalities for certain partition functions. Moreover, by considering a truncated theta series involving $\ell$-regular partitions, we confirm a conjecture proposed by Ballantine and Merca about 6-regular partitions and show that Merca's stronger conjecture on truncated Jacobi triple product series holds when $R = 3S$ for $S \geq 1.$

Positivity and tails of pentagonal number series
In this paper, we refine a result of Andrews and Merca on truncated pentagonal number series. Subsequently, we establish some positivity results involving Andrews--Gordon--Bressoud identities and $d$-regular partitions. In particular, we prove several conjectures of Merca and Krattenthaler--Merca--Radu on truncated pentagonal number series.
Partitions with fixed points in the sequence of first-column hook lengths

Recently, Blecher and Knopfmacher applied the notion of fixed points to integer partitions. This has already been generalized and refined in various ways such as $h$-fixed points for an integer parameter $h$ by Hopkins and Sellers. Here, we consider the sequence of first column hook lengths in the Young diagram of a partition and corresponding fixed hooks. We enumerate these, using both generating function and combinatorial proofs, and find that they match occurrences of part sizes equal to their multiplicity. We establish connections to work of Andrews and Merca on truncations of the pentagonal number theorem and classes of partitions partially characterized by certain minimal excluded parts (mex).

Truncated Theta Series Related to the Jacobi Triple Product Identity
The work of Andrews and Merca on the truncated Euler's pentagonal number theorem led to a resurgence in research on truncated theta series identities. In particular, Yee proved a truncated version of the Jacobi Triple Product (JTP) identity. Recently, Merca conjectured a stronger form of the truncated JTP identity. In this article we prove the first three cases of the conjecture and several related truncated identities. We prove combinatorially an identity related to the JTP identity which in particular cases reduces to identities conjectured by Merca and proved analytically by Krattenthaler, Merca and Radu. Moreover, we introduce a new combinatorial interpretation for the number of distinct 5-regular partitions of n.

On variations of Yama Nim and Triangular Nim
Yama Nim is a two heaps Nim game introduced in the second author's Master Thesis, where the player takes more than $2$ tokens from one heap, and return $1$ token to the other heap. Triangular Nim is a generalization, where the player takes several tokens from one heap, and return some tokens (at least one token) to the other heap, so that the total number of the tokens in the heaps decrease strictly. In this paper, we investigate their winning strategies, Grundy numbers, and their variations and generalizations. Particularly interesting is the Wythoff variations, where in addition to the Yama/Triangular Nim moves, the player is allowed to take tokens from both heaps, say $i$ tokens from the first heap and $j$ tokens from the other, under some restrictions for $i$ and $j$. For example when we force $i=j>0$ for the Triangular Nim, then the pair of non-negative integers $(x, y)$ with $x$ less than or equal to $y$ is in the $P$-position if and only if $(x, y) is in {(0, 0), (0, 1), (1, 3), (3, 6), (6, 10), (10, 15), ...}$, namely the winning strategy is described by triangular numbers. In other rulesets, we also found examples where the square numbers, pentagonal numbers, geometric progressions, and so on.

PED and POD partitions: combinatorial proofs of recurrence relations
PED partitions are partitions with even parts distinct while odd parts are unrestricted. Similarly, POD partitions have distinct odd parts while even parts are unrestricted. Merca proved several recurrence relations analytically for the number of PED partitions of $n$. They are similar to the recurrence relation for the number of partitions of $n$ given by Euler's pentagonal number theorem. We provide combinatorial proofs for all of these theorems and also for the pentagonal number theorem for PED partitions proved analytically by Fink, Guy, and Krusemeyer. Moreover, we prove combinatorially a recurrence for POD partitions given by Ballantine and Merca, Beck-type identities involving PED and POD partitions, and several other results about PED and POD partitions.

Expansions of averaged truncations of basic hypergeometric series
Motivated by recent work of George Andrews and Mircea Merca on the expansion of the quotient of the truncation of Euler's pentagonal number series by the complete series, we provide similar expansion results for averages involving truncations of selected, more general, basic hypergeometric series. In particular, our expansions include new results for averaged truncations of the series appearing in the Jacobi triple product identity, the $q$-Gauß summation, and the very-well-poised ${}_5φ_5$ summation. We show how special cases of our expansions can be used to recover various existing results. In addition, we establish new inequalities, such as one for a refinement of the number of partitions into three different colors.

Partition-theoretic interpretation for certain truncated series
In this article, we provide partition-theoretic interpretations for some new truncated pentagonal number theorem and identities of Gauss. Also, we deduce few inequalities for some partition functions.

A pentagonal number theorem for tribone tilings

Conway and Lagarias showed that certain roughly triangular regions in the hexagonal grid cannot be tiled by shapes Thurston later dubbed tribones. Here we study a two-parameter family of roughly hexagonal regions in the hexagonal grid and show that a tiling by tribones exists if and only if the two parameters associated with the region are the paired pentagonal numbers $k(3k \pm 1)/2$.
