Let $λ$ be a partition with no more than $n$ parts. Let $β$ be a weakly increasing $n$-tuple with entries from $\{ 1, ... , n \}$. The flagged Schur function in the variables $x_1, ... , x_n$ that is indexed by $λ$ and $β$ has been defined to be the sum of the content weight monomials for the semistandard Young tableaux of shape $λ$ whose values are row-wise bounded by the entries of $β$. Gessel and Viennot gave a determinant expression for the flagged Schur function indexed by $λ$ and $β$; this could be done since the pair $(λ, β)$ satisfied their "nonpermutable" condition for the sequence of terminals of an $n$-tuple of lattice paths that they used to model the tableaux. We generalize flagged Schur functions by dropping the requirement that $β$ be weakly increasing. Then for each $λ$ we give a condition on the entries of $β$ for the pair $(λ, β)$ to be nonpermutable that is both necessary and sufficient. When the parts of $λ$ are not distinct there will be multiple row bound $n$-tuples $β$ that will produce the same set of tableaux. We accordingly group the bounding $β$ into equivalence classes and identify the most efficient $β$ in each class for the determinant computation. We recently showed that many other sets of objects that are indexed by $n$ and $λ$ are enumerated by the number of these efficient $n$-tuples. We called these counts "parabolic Catalan numbers". It is noted that the $GL(n)$ Demazure characters (key polynomials) indexed by 312-avoiding permutations can also be expressed with these determinants.

In this paper, we prove determinant formulas for the $K$-theory classes of the structure sheaves of degeneracy loci classes associated to vexillary permutations in type $A$. As a consequence we obtain determinant formulas for Lascoux-Schützenberger's double Grothendieck polynomials associated to vexillary permutations. Furthermore, we generalize the determinant formula to algebraic cobordism.
The distinguishing number of groups based on the distinguishing number of subgroups

Let $Γ$ be a group acting on a set $X$. The distinguishing number for this action of $Γ$ on $X$, denoted by $D_Γ(X)$, is the smallest natural number $k$ such that the elements of $X$ can be labeled with $k$ labels so that any label-preserving element of $Γ$ fixes all $x \in X$. In particular, if the action is faithful, then the only element of $Γ$ preserving labels is the identity. In this paper, we obtain an upper bound on the distinguishing number of a set knowing the distinguishing number of a set under the action of a subgroup. By the concept of motion, we obtain an upper bound for the distinguishing number of a group. Motivated by a problem (Chan 2006), we characterize $D_{Γ,H}(X)$ which is the smallest number of labels admitting a labeling of $X$ such that the only elements of $Γ$ that induce label-preserving permutations lie in $H$. Finally, we state two algorithms for obtaining an upper and a lower bound for $D_{Γ, H}(X)$.

We introduce diagrams and essential sets for signed permutations, extending the analogous notions for ordinary permutations. In particular, we show that the essential set provides a minimal list of rank conditions defining the Schubert variety or degeneracy locus corresponding to a signed permutation. Our essential set is in bijection with the poset-theoretic version defined by Reiner, Woo, and Yong, and thus gives an explicit, diagrammatic method for computing the latter.
Stirling permutations, marked permutations and Stirling derangements
In this paper we introduce the definition of marked permutations. We first present a bijection between Stirling permutations and marked permutations. We then present an involution on Stirling derangements. Furthermore, we present a symmetric bivariate enumerative polynomials on $r$-colored marked permutations. Finally, we give an explanation of $r$-colored marked permutations by using the language of combinatorial objects.
Hamiltonian cycles for the square of the augmentation graphs and Gray codes for restricted permutations and ascent sequences
In this paper, we construct a listing for the vertices of the augmentation graph of given size, and as a consequence, we obtain a Hamiltonian cycle for the square of the augmentation graph of given size. As applications, we have a Gray code for the $132$-$312$ avoiding permutations of given length such that two successive permutations differ by at most $2$ adjacent transpositions. Also we obtain Gray codes of strong distance $2$ for the $001$ avoiding ascent sequences and the $010$ avoiding ascent sequences of given length.
The Roller-Coaster Conjecture Revisited

A graph is well-covered if all its maximal independent sets are of the same cardinality (Plummer, 1970). If G is a well-covered graph, has at least two vertices, and G-v is well-covered for every vertex v, then G is a 1-well-covered graph (Staples, 1975). We call G a λ-quasi-regularizable graph if λ |S| =< |N(S)| for every independent set S of G. The independence polynomial I(G;x) is the generating function of independent sets in a graph G (Gutman & Harary, 1983). The Roller-Coaster Conjecture (Michael & Travis, 2003), saying that for every permutation σ of the set {(α/2),...,α} there exists a well-covered graph G with independence number α such that the coefficients (s_{k}) of I(G;x) are chosen in accordance with σ, has been validated in (Cutler & Pebody, 2017). In this paper, we show that independence polynomials of λ-quasi-regularizable graphs are partially unimodal. More precisely, the coefficients of an upper part of I(G;x) are in non-increasing order. Based on this finding, we prove that the domain of the Roller- Coaster Conjecture can be shortened for well-covered graphs and 1-well-covered graphs.
Generating series of Periodic Parallelogram polyominoes
The aim of this work is the study of the class of periodic parallelogram polyominoes, and two of its variantes. These objets are related to 321-avoiding affine permutations. We first provide a bijection with the set of triangles under Dyck paths. We then prove the ultimate periodicity of the generating series of our objects, and introduced a notion of primitive polyominoes, which we enumerate. We conclude by an asymptotic analysis.
W-Operator and Differential Equation for 3-Hurwitz Number
We consider a new type of Hurwitz number, the number of ordered transitive factorizations of an arbitrary permutation into d-cycles. In this paper, we focus on the special case d = 3. The minimal number of transitive factorizations of any permutation into 3-cycles has been worked out by David, Goulden and Jackson. Also, such factorizations for transpositions, the case d = 2, have been considered by Crescimanno and Taylor. Goulden and Jackson have proved the differential equation for the generating series of simple Hurwitz numbers. Based on their results, we use W-operator to prove a differential equation for the generating function of the new type Hurwitz number.

We construct an intriguing bijection between $021$-avoiding inversion sequences and $(2413,4213)$-avoiding permutations, which proves a sextuple equidistribution involving double Eulerian statistics. Two interesting applications of this result are also presented. Moreover, this result inspires us to characterize all permutation classes that avoid two patterns of length $4$ whose descent polynomial equals that of separable permutations.
A constructive algorithm for the LLL on permutations

While there has been significant progress on algorithmic aspects of the Lovász Local Lemma (LLL) in recent years, a noteworthy exception is when the LLL is used in the context of random permutations. The breakthrough algorithm of Moser & Tardos only works in the setting of independent variables, and does not apply in this context. We resolve this by developing a randomized polynomial-time algorithm for such applications. A noteworthy application is for Latin transversals: the best-known general result here (Bissacot et al., improving on Erdős and Spencer), states that any $n \times n$ matrix in which each entry appears at most $(27/256)n$ times, has a Latin transversal. We present the first polynomial-time algorithm to construct such a transversal. We also develop RNC algorithms for Latin transversals, rainbow Hamiltonian cycles, strong chromatic number, and hypergraph packing.
In addition to efficiently finding a configuration which avoids bad-events, the algorithm of Moser & Tardos has many powerful extensions and properties. These include a well-characterized distribution on the output distribution, parallel algorithms, and a partial resampling variant. We show that our algorithm has nearly all of the same useful properties as the Moser-Tardos algorithm, and present a comparison of this aspect with recent works on the LLL in general probability spaces.

We prove that the pair of statistics (des, maj) on multiset permutations is equidistributed with the pair (stc, inv) on certain quotients of the symmetric group. We define the analogue of the statistic stc on multiset permutations, whose joint distribution with the inversions equals that of (des, maj). We extend the definition of the statistic stc to hyperoctahedral and even hyperoctahedral groups. Such functions, together with the Coxeter length, are equidistributed, respectively, with (ndes, nmaj) and (ddes, dmaj).

In this paper, we study five different types of rise statistics that can be associated with such permutations and find the generating functions for the distribution of such rise statistics.
Dyck Paths and Positroids from Unit Interval Orders

It is well known that the number of non-isomorphic unit interval orders on $[n]$ equals the $n$-th Catalan number. Using work of Skandera and Reed and work of Postnikov, we show that each unit interval order on $[n]$ naturally induces a rank $n$ positroid on $[2n]$. We call the positroids produced in this fashion unit interval positroids. We characterize the unit interval positroids by describing their associated decorated permutations, showing that each one must be a $2n$-cycle encoding a Dyck path of length $2n$. We also provide recipes to read the decorated permutation of a unit interval positroid $P$ from both the antiadjacency matrix and the interval representation of the unit interval order inducing $P$. Using our characterization of the decorated permutation, we describe the Le-diagrams corresponding to unit interval positroids. In addition, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for two Grassmann cells parameterized by unit interval positroids to be adjacent inside the Grassmann cell complex. Finally, we propose a potential approach to find the $f$-vector of a unit interval order.
Combinatorics and Representation Theory for Generalized Permutohedra I: Simplicial Plates
In this paper, we announce results from our thesis, which studies for the first time the categorification of the theory of generalized permutohedra. The vector spaces in the categorification are tightly constrained by certain continuity relations which appeared in physics in the mid 20th century. We describe here the action of the symmetric group on the vector spaces in this categorification. Generalized permutohedra are replaced by vector spaces of characteristic functions of polyhedral cones about faces of permutohedra, called plates, due to A. Ocneanu. The symmetric group acts on plates by coordinate permutation.
In combinatorics, the Eulerian numbers count the number of permutations with a given number of ascent and descents. The classical Worpitzky identity expands a power $r^p$ as a sum of Eulerian numbers, with binomial coefficients. In our thesis, for the main result we generalize the classical Worpitzky identity to an isomorphism of symmetric group modules, corresponding geometrically to the tiling of a scaled simplex by unit hypersimplices. In the categorification, the volume of a hypersimplex is replaced by the complex-linear dimension of a vector space associated to it. The main technical aspect of the proof of the character formula for the simplex involves a partition of unity of a commutative algebra of translations on a discrete torus, and a certain modular Diophantine equation.

Block decomposition of permutations and Schur-positivity

The block number of a permutation is the maximal number of components in its expression as a direct sum. We show that, for $321$-avoiding permutations, the set of left-to-right maxima has the same distribution when the block number is assumed to be $k$ as when the last descent of the inverse is assumed to be at position $n - k$. This result is analogous to the Foata-Schützenberger equi-distribution theorem, and implies that the quasi-symmetric generating function of descent set over $321$-avoiding permutations with a prescribed number of blocks is Schur-positive.
Carlitz Rank and Index of Permutation Polynomials
Carlitz rank and index are two important measures for the complexity of a permutation polynomial $f(x)$ over the finite field $\F_q$. In particular, for cryptographic applications we need both, a high Carlitz rank and a high index. In this article we study the relationship between Carlitz rank $Crk(f)$ and index $Ind(f)$. More precisely, if the permutation polynomial is neither close to a polynomial of the form $ax$ nor a rational function of the form $ax^{-1}$, then we show that $Crk(f)>q- \max\{3 Ind(f),(3q)^{1/2}\}$. Moreover we show that the permutation polynomial which represents the discrete logarithm guarantees both a large index and a large Carlitz rank.

We examine the conjugacy growth series of all wreath products of the finitary permutation groups $\text{Sym}(X)$ and $\text{Alt}(X)$ for an infinite set $X$. We determine their asymptotics, and we characterize the limiting behavior between the $\text{Alt}(X)$ and $\text{Sym}(X)$ wreath products. In particular, their ratios form a limit if and only if the dimension of the symmetric wreath product is twice the dimension of the alternating wreath product.
Flag Descents and Eulerian Polynomials for Wreath Product Quotients
We investigate the $α$-colored Eulerian polynomials and a notion of descents introduced in a recent paper of Hedmark and show that such polynomials can be computed as a polynomial encoding descents computed over a quotient of the wreath product $\mathbb{Z}_α\wr\mathfrak{S}_n$. Moreover, we consider the flag descent statistic computed over this same quotient and find that the flag Eulerian polynomial remains palindromic. We prove that the flag descent polynomial is palindromic over this same quotient by giving a combinatorial proof that the flag descent statistic is symmetrically distributed over the collection of colored permutations with fixed last color by way of a new combinatorial tool, the colored winding number of a colored permutation. We conclude with some conjectures, observations, and open questions.

This paper enumerates all juxtaposition classes of the form "Av($abc$) next to Av($xy$)", where $abc$ is a permutation of length three and $xy$ is a permutation of length two. We use Dyck paths decorated by sequences of points to represent elements from such a juxtaposition class. Context-free grammars are then used to enumerate these decorated Dyck paths.
